This restaurant was one of the highlights of my friend and I's trip to northern Michigan. We went on a Friday evening and in addition to the beautiful, fairy tale-esque patio, there was live music: a very friendly and charming mandolin and accordion duo. I felt like I was in Paris! Great selection of wines (including locals to the area) and farm-to-table style menu. My friend got the rack of lamb and I got the meatloaf, both delicious. My husband and I found ourselves wandering by the inviting patio and enquired about getting a table. While we obviously should have made a reservation on a busy Saturday night; the hostess was absolutely wonderful and told us to come back in an hour and she could make something happen. The staff was amazing; the food (I got the best scallops I've ever had) was all delicious. There was wonderful live music and they even brought my husband out a little bday pot de crème. To say this place was amazing start to finish is an understatement. Highly recommend for the ambiance, food and stellar customer service. We received lovely service from Debby, a very well curated wine selection with many very good by the glass suggestions. The food was good, well prepared and attractively served. There was nothing on the menu that was creative or special. The lake and steak (whitefish and sirloin) and elk were both satisfying, the product was good for both dishes, especially the beef. Both had very traditional preparations -- that is not a complaint, but if you are searching for interesting treatments you will want to look elsewhere. read more

Fabulous experience on the quaint backyard patio. Felt like we were in a French cafe with mandolin and accordion musicians playing softly. Food was outstanding as was the service and we truly enjoyed this relaxing dining experience. Reservations should be made ahead as this restaurant does not appear to overbook. We looked at the reviews for this quaint restaurant, most of the reviews were very good so we decided to try it for breakfast. It was a huge disappointment!! The eggs were barely warm, over cooked, the potatoes were so hard and dry and you could tell they were warmed up and not fresh, unable to eat them. No I would not recommend this place! read more

Had a delicious dinner with my wife and mother here on Monday. My wife had a Dover sole piccatta , my mother the Italian meatloaf and I had the scallops. All were superb. To begin we also had a fondue served with apples and bread. Incredible. From top to bottom, the best meal we've had in the TC/Sutton's Bay area. read more

This place was amazing on our trip last summer. We wanted to go again this year and saw their website says reservations only. I called multiple times on two different days (a Monday and Thursday) at the hours specified online, and no one ever answered the phone. I tried sending an email, too, but it bounced back saying "mailbox full." Too bad; we went somewhere else. read more

I seriously stay in Suttons Bay just so I can eat here every morning. My kids loved it too and now keep asking me when we're going to "Martha's house" lol Here's what I love 1. Bang me sandwich! How can this be so good from a non-Vietnamese place? 2. Turkey and apple sandwich! They have never gotten this wrong! 3. The mixed drinks! Bartenders are killing it back there! 4. The owner and staff who are so kind and patient with us even when we bring our toddlers or our dog Coco 5. You know how when you are in a vacation town you expect to eat pubgrub the entire time, and by the end of the trip you crave a good, fresh salad? Martha's is *not* one of those places. It is a gorgeous little restaurant and patio that serves fresh, delicious food. It is pricey, but worth every penny. I do recommend you call for a reservation. We arrived at 7:30 without one, and were able to be seated at 8:30. Our server was lovely and helped us find a red wine we all enjoyed. Having eaten at a Raclette restaurant in New York, I was excited to see a raclette appetizer. I was a little disappointed to see the plate--bread, cornichons, and grilled potatoes with a small cast iron square pan of melted cheese in the middle. It was tasty, but not what I had hoped. What was amazing was the chowder--it was light and delicious! We all enjoyed our entrees--filet was perfectly prepared, scallops were seared and delicious, and the salmon was cooked through. Sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes were phenomenal. Don't fill up on too much, however, because you must have dessert. The turtle sundae was exceptional: homemade ice cream, Carmel, and chocolate sauces; topped with cream and pecans. And the chocolate pots de creme is not to be missed for the chocolate lover. It is decadent and addictive. It was a lovely meal in the middle of our beach vacation. I am so glad we found it! read more

It has been about three years since we went to this restaurant and I was not at all sure what to expect after the pandemic. So many restaurants in this area have closed during the health crisis, but this one made it. And, its easy to see why. The food here is excellent! The menu is inspired and although it ranges between $$$ and $$$$, the value is there. Portions are generous. Rain was forecast and we were sitting on the patio, so we went early. Turns our there is a special offered often before a6pm. We got a helluva deal on an awesome whitefish three course dinner for just $25! We did a salad upgrade, but wow, what a deal The wine list is respectable and reasonable and the service is friendly, attentive and prompt. But: the Old Fashioned cocktail I had was amazing. Perhaps the best I've ever had. Smokey Old Fashioned. Not sure, but I've traveled around the world and been to some of the best places on many continents and that Old Fashioned, well, three days later I'm still processing! Two visits in three days reveal consistent notes. The food is excellent, and the service is very good. If the weather is nice, you will want to sit on the patio. Both nights we were there, they had live music, which was splendid, not obtrusive, and which contributed to the enjoyment of the meal. Sit on the patio to take full advantage of this. I had lamb the first time; this was done medium-rare, just as I like it. One strength of this place is veggies: local Michigan veggies and locally grown potatoes graced this wonderful dish. The second time I had lake trout, which came in a generous portion with wonderful veggies. The kitchen got a little swamped so we had to wait a while, but the restaurant comped us this stupendous cherry galette. Yeah, next time we are back in upper Michigan, we will be double-hitting this great place. read more

Came here with a friend on a Saturday night. Luckily it was still early and we were squeezed in for dinner. Typically they have reservations which is something to be mindful of if you plan to dine here. We started with this smoked fish appetizer. It was a special they had for the day. There was smoked fish whipped and cheeses and it was just delicious. We opted to upgrade our side salads to the BLT side salad. Which was very an amazing salad but was much pricier than we had expected. Not sure if I'd get it again for being an expensive side salad. Both of us had the fish special (I believe it was whitefish or halibut) with brosin sauce accompanied sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was really good but nothing too remarkable for fish. I would get it again as it was very good but just a note nothing too outrageous. Overall it was a great more fine dining restaurant in the area. Our server was great and even offered us blankets because it was getting cold. I would love to come back and try more entrees. read more

It is hard to find unique/eccentric like Martha's in Northern Michigan, but after researching we wanted to drive in from Empire to try it out. It is very clean and inviting, the outdoor patio also looked beautiful. I was excited to try the "Green Eggs and Ham", it was really good but the green Pesto was under the eggs and you couldn't see it in the presentation on the top of the food which was disappointing. My meal with the homemade bread, and side order of skillet potatoes was very fresh and I am happy we tried it. My wife was looking forward to Cherry Bread French toasts (but they were out of Cherry Bread) overall her meal was solid but we were disappointed we never got to sample the signature bread. We never tried the desserts but the cakes look delicious, this is a great find Northern Michigan. read more

Had to check this place out when we were in town as we saw it featured on Under the Radar MI. It did not disappoint! We sat on the quaint patio on a beautiful day for a late lunch. We shared the 1/2 club and soup as we were not overly hungry but wanted something to tied us over until dinner. The sandwich was perfect and the lentil soup was delightful and full of flavor. I have been wanting to go to Martha's for ages and this summer, I was lucky enough to go twice, and both times were an incredible treat. Homemade soups, like Moroccan Carrot and Roasted Tomato with Red Bell Pepper were outstanding. I had the Tuna Tartine on my first visit and loved it. It was light and delicious, full of flavor. I chose the Prix Fixe for dinner on our second visit, and my fish was cooked beautifully. The "Tres Leches" cake that came with my meal was excellent, very traditional, I loved it. We've been here for so many special moments, and now Martha's Table will even more enshrined in our memories after they hosted the most delicious and sweet wedding rehearsal for us. Martha and her team helped create a beautiful prix-fixe menu that had something for everyone: delicious local salad or yummy soup; local whitefish done multiple ways, delicious steak, or a special veg option; and a beautiful dessert with local fruit. As an "out-of-towner," recommendations are always welcome. The owners of the house we rented suggested Martha's and I'm so glad they did. With a larger group of seven we made advanced dinner reservations. It is a small place with seating indoors of probably under 50 so this was a good idea. We were served a complimentary amuse bouche which was a lovely surprise. Little toasts with fresh goat cheese. Our waiter was very good, but seemed a little nervous. We weren't sure if he was newer, or if it was because he had a waiter's assistant/trainee? But he fumbled over the specials, and was not able to pronounce a couple things. Wine selection was very good, although we were surprised at how few were local selections. Our table split two servings of the local Leelanau Rachlette cheese starter. It was excellent, and served with small pickles, peppers, and toasts. Most people got the house salad with shallot vinaigrette which was excellent. I'm not a huge shallot person and asked if there was an alternate which their wasn't. But ultimately was very happy with it, as it was light and still flavorful. I ordered the scallops, which were in a butter garlic sauce. Very yummy. I was able to try bites of the tenderloin which was excellent, and a chicken special they had which was dry. Overall only one person at the table was not thrilled with their entree-- so I would stay away from chicken or specials, and stick to the strong daily entrees. Lastly the table shared two desserts. The Lemon Ricotta cheesecake was ridiculously good. Creamy, with just enough lemon. And it was a light cheesecake, not one that leaves you feeling like you have a bowling ball in your tummy. The three layer chocolate mouse pie was also heavenly, and I'm not a even a huge chocolate lover! Martha even came out to greet us at the end of the meal. She was a doll, and our whole table was smitten. How great to own a restaurant that you obviously love, and also be able to indulge in some wine while working!? She was a stitch! She even sold us a bit of fresh ground for the morning since we were without. It was even fabulous! Overall a great experience! I almost gave it 4 stars because of the price, but they do have a prix fixe option which I would absolutely suggest to a first timer. If I am ever in the area, I would go back in a heartbeat! We were walking around Suttons Bay and stumbled upon Martha's. The patio was inviting and a great place to enjoy another beautiful northern Michigan summer day. I was going to order the BLT but the sever told me she likes the Santa Fe BLT better as it has jalapeño mayo and avocado on it (along with turkey) and it was grilled on a panini maker. Yum!!! It was delicious! Only kettle chops were served with it. I could eat that sandwich again tomorrow! My sister ordered the special sandwich of the day, a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. She said it was good. My brother in law ordered the Croque Madam. It didn't look too exciting to me. The service was fair.... Seemed a little slow, but when you are just at vacation pace that didn't matter. I do recommend this bistro!!! read more

The eggs were perfectly done and I added mushrooms to the hash - no extra charge and they were amazing. Bread was great too. My fiancé got the st tropez baked eggs.
