Just another place with people that have rules that apply to others but not themselves. We arrived for our reservation and were immediately asked to put a mask on, even though their bartender had no mask on and 2 other servers had no masks on their faces. Michigan guidelines no longer require them, so when we objected, the hostess said the owner still required guests to wear masks (but not the staff, as we witnessed). So we exercised our freedom of choice, left, and went across the street to the very lovely North Country Grill (no masks required) and had a wonderful dinner and cocktails. Martha's will NEVER get any more business from us. read more

We had a wonderful experience eating here. We sat on the patio and soaked up the ambiance of what felt like a French garden. Our table was under a print umbrella with live music playing softly near us. Our server, Debbie, was excellent and anticipated our needs, yet did not interrupt our meal and conversation. The food was fresh and seasoned perfectly. We had salads and crab cakes with a chocolate crème dessert. All in all our dinner was memorable and relaxing. Excellent service and outstanding food. My husband and I came here for breakfast on a Sunday. They said they opened at 9 but didn't open the doors til almost 9:10. Being one of the first people in we didn't have to wait long for service or food which was nice. Menu was standard pretty run of the mill for a diner/ breakfast, but overpriced for the quality as the food was bland. Overall it was a meh experience, not bad but not great. read more

My husband and I are on vacation in Traverse City and the surrounding area. One of the best things about the vacation--until eating at Martha's--has been eating very good food. We are renting a house, so we do have the option of cooking for ourselves. When I eat out, I want to eat food that is at least as good as the food I prepare myself. When deciding where to eat breakfast/lunch on a drive through the north part of the Leelanaw Peninsula, I found that Martha's website said they were serving breakfast until 3pm, and breakfast was what I wanted. When we got there around 1:30 or 2:00, we were seated and given only lunch menus. When I asked about breakfast, I was told that they only served it until 11am!!! THEY LIE ON THEIR WEBSITE!!! The ONLY reason I chose Martha's over a restaurant in Northport was because of their claim to be serving breakfast. I could have had an extremely good breakfast in Traverse city before leaving on the drive, had I even suspected that these people are liars. To say that I was disappointed is an extreme understatement. They did agree to alter a sandwich item and top,it with eggs, and it was mediocre. I needed protein, so I ate it. read more

This morning I had intentions of going to breakfast at another local restaurant but it was closed and boy am I happy for that! I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was the best one I've ever had! It comes with salsa and sour cream but you don't need it. The ingredients inside the burrito were perfectly seasoned and not too spicy. The service was great and the establishment, inside and out, was beautiful. I would highly recommend this place! read more

Happy that they are still in business, but the four of us were very disappointed with our selections. The chicken was underdone, bleeding a bit, and the lamb was over done and tough. We came to Martha's on a last minute notice, we would've liked to sit outside but had come at a very busy time (10:30ish), even so the inside was nice too just a little loud. Everything tasted great and service was good for the most part. Again, it was very busy so things were a little slow but we understood. Great place for lunch in Sutton's Bay. Sandwiches are excellent and very different from the usual offerings at restaurants. Tomato bisque was tasty and creamy. My wife's sandwich was also very good. Sat outside and it was comfortable and pleasant. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Martha's is our local favorite for expertly-executed comfort food, cozy atmosphere, great wine, and friendly, attentive service. It's where we take friends and family who visit from out of town, and it's where we go when we are celebrating. It's consistently delicious and you feel like you're family. Being one of the first 70+ degree nights in the area -- we were searching for a patio to enjoy a leisurely mother/daughter dinner. We found such a place at Martha's Leelanau Table, a charming restaurant located within a rehabbed A-Frame cottage/house on St. Joseph Street near Downtown Suttons Bay. If you've been looking for a quaint village to visit during your vacation "Up North" you've surely found it, and Martha's should be on your list. They have a very nice side patio area to enjoy dinner, drinks, etc -- though no one else was sitting out on this particular evening, they accommodated service anyway. We started out with a few glasses of wine (the Cab from Napa was delightful, full-bodied and the pours quite generous. Though I'd expect that for a $12 price point!) -- my mom had an Italian varietal. Only a few bottles offered by the glass, but a nice selection and the ones we did try were high quality. As Martha was in the midst of changing the menu from early Spring to late Spring there were quite a few modications -- but all positive. We ended up going with the Pork Loin topped with cherry chutney, the Salmon with peston and a Bleu Cheese salad. Pork Loin: 3 stars. A bit dry for pork, and the cherry chutney overpowered it -- quite heavy and sweet. The mash that accompanied it felt a bit heavy. Overall the dish was average. For $26, the execution needs to be a bit better in my opinion. Salmon: 5 stars. Fresh, flavorful. Very nicely prepared. $23 Bleu Cheese starter salad: 4 stars. Again a bit heavy, but tasty and fresh. It's bleu cheese after all, so I wasn't expecting light and fluffy! $9 Our total check ended up at around $95 + tip. Not inexpensive by any means, but the menu is very well thought out, the service excellent and the ambience perfect for an early summer/late spring evening. The pork was a bit of a miss but I think with changing the menu and experimenting a bit they are always evolving. Would surely come back for coffee, sandwiches, desserts, and dinner for a special occasion.The price point puts it a bit out of range for a regular dinner but I was happy to treat my mom, sit in the sun and sample the menu of a Suttons Bay staple. read more

I worked for Martha's last Summer. Over the course of my life I've worked for 5+ restaurants and Martha's is the only restaurant where I've never grown tired of the food. And I believe the reason for this is simple: Martha cares about what comes out of her kitchen. She's dedicated to organic, fresh, and local down to the basic ingredients... and the difference is palatable. At other restaurants when people ask about how an item on the menu is, a server is generally expected to put on a smile and praise it regardless of the item's actual quality. At Martha's I was never uncomfortable with praising any item on the menu because I knew it was as good as my word, and sharing such quality food allowed my smiles to blossom naturally. Awesome food, incredible people, and a great, relaxing environment make Martha's the best restaurant for which I've ever worked. read more

I went for lunch with a few others and we were all impressed with the atmosphere, service, and food. While I wouldn't say the sandwiches are cheap, I think they are worth the price. Each of our plates were more than enough and oh so delicious. The homemade soups were satisfying and special grilled cheese with local cheese was something else. Yum. They offer homemade gluten free bread, which I ordered on my sandwich. It was moist, flavorful, and a bread like consistency (I say this as many g-free breads are dry, taste like cardboard, and or fall apart in one touch). We ate dinner here on a Friday night in August while passing through Suttons Bay. Atmosphere: Martha's offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating area is small but comfortable and is nicely decorated. I would not recommend this for groups larger than four or for groups with children under 16. We chose the outside seating since it was a warm and breezy summer evening. Service: We did not make reservations but they had room on their schedule to serve us. We were seated at 6:25 p.m. and received water within 10 minutes. We then placed our order at 6:40 p.m. I ordered their pan fried whitefish special of the evening while my wife ordered the penna pasta with spinach & cream sauce special of the evening. We finally received our food at approximately 7:25 p.m. While servers were pleasant, it's possible that they were understaffed that evening since everyone had similar lengthy wait times to receive food & drink refills. Food: I'll give Martha's a 9/10 on presentation as both dishes were delightful visually. As for flavor, I'd rate the whitefish dish at 6.5/10 and the penne pasta a 7/10. Wine: They have an exceptionally good and varied list of locally produced wines. Price & Value: The tab for our meals (which included a rather bland salad) and a single bottle of Bell's Amber Ale ran $43.00. Overall, I felt Martha's was a poor value given the price & service. There are better choices available in Sutton's Bay and definitely more value within a short 12 mile drive south to Traverse City. Payment Note: This place does not accept American Express cards. We ate here on the recommendation of the B&B owners where we stayed just down the block. Martha's s in a vintage home, and having just walked down the block from our B&B, eating here felt a bit like dropping into a friend's home for a very elegant dinner party. The regular menu entrees are classics like herb roasted pork tenderloin, Lake & Steak (with beef tenderloin and local whitefish) and the baked scallops (which were my dinner choice). I also like Martha's emphasis on using local produce and product like the great Leelanau Raclette Cheese and seasonal veggies. Great for a quiet and romantic dinner. Reservations are definitely a good idea for dinner as the place is small. It can be a bit pricey, but there is an early-bird prix fixe option with three courses for $17. read more

They do almost eveything right. Service is quick, friendly, and accomodating (we wanted 3 tables together on the patio). The house, even though it opened 3 years ago, is very clean and looks like a recent and very good remodel. The owner came out to chat and the two young, male servers were very friendly. All 6 of us enjoyed the food but I'd like to give Martha 2 suggestions: -Offer fresh bread for the sandwiches, not all of us like our sammies toasted. Note: They accomdated me with this request although I could tell they were a little unsure when I first asked. -Be a little more generous with the fillings (lunch meat, veggies, and sauces). I had lunch here with Mom while on a sweatshirt shopping exhibition to Suttons Bay. The restaurant is in a small house with lots of cozy nooks. They also have a decent-sized patio, which is where we sat. The service is casual ("folksy"). Others were complaining about it being slow, but it wasn't bad at all. Where on earth could someone have to hurry off to in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon in August in Suttons Bay? Wine tasting, I guess. Calm down, people. I had their soup and sandwich special. Veggie soup and a turkey sandwich. It was good. Freshly made and with good flavors. Overall, Martha's makes a nice lunch stop on a sunny day. read more

My first experience here was kinda just OK. Second experience was A-OK. Maybe next time I'll be a fan. The first thing I tried here was the breakfast sandwich on sourdough. It was pretty bland and needed some fat to help get the flavors going a bit. Whatever. I'd been traveling across the country and hot food that didn't come from an airport was all I wanted. Plus hot coffee. Service was a little slow and wobbly. Second time here I tried the Senor Pig, only the pig part was a little screwed up because they were out of sausage (!). I'm believing that they were super busy and it was over the Christmas holiday, hence the lack of sausage. The dish was a corn tortilla topped with salsa, sour cream, eggs, Mexican frijoles, shredded white cheddar and bacon. Definitely would have been better with sausage, but was pretty good with the bacon. I love the ambiance, and it's definitely a local hangout - everyone greets you warmly and as if you're a long time friend. Patrons come and hang out and eat slowly. Maybe that's why the service is a little slow... but no matter, this is Leelanau - you're not in a hurry if you're in this county. The turkey and bacon sandwich with maple mayo on cherry bread is unforgettably delicious! The location is cute, if a bit small, and the prices are reasonable. My boyfriend enjoyed a turkey sandwich with jalapeno mayo - just the right hint of spice. I recommend coming here for lunch for a truly "up north" meal. read more

Best breakfast burrito I've ever had. Even got my kids to eat peppers & onions. They loved it! My son had the breakfast sandwich & devoured it. Said it was one of his all time faves. My daughter went off the menu & made up her own combination which they were very happy to do. She loved her scrambled eggs, potatoes, & blueberry pancake. Fresh maple syrup too. This place is so Leelanau County in all the best ways. I'm from this area and on a recent visit stopped by Martha's for breakfast. First off, the setting is great--we sat outside, but it has such a cozy, homey feel inside. Martha Ryan (the owner) focuses on fresh, local foods. Several of the egg dishes featured Blackstar Farms cheese (located just down the road). As for the egg and tomato sandwich (with arugula) I had, it was so flavorful that it tasted like the toppings were picked fresh that morning. Our coffee was also nice and strong and our waitress totally sweet. I've also sampled their scones (made in house) and was very pleased. Don't pass this place up if you make it to Suttons Bay---not only are the food and service great, but the price is right! read more

Wowee-wow-wow-wow!! Amazing place from cozy familiar-feeling atmosphere to personable wait staff to superb food. They have a plethora of specials of the day, off menu, and meats are butchered locally. We tried a dinner salad with fresh house-made mozarella stuffed with burrata cheese and glazed with a cherry dressing. Oh, my dear God. You must have this! I had the scallops, asparagus and mushrooms, in a very buttery lemon sauce. Very good, tender, and naturally sweetish scallops (not sweet sweet, but absent the bitter). My husband had the mignon, scallops, and gratin of potatoes - all delicious. We will definitely be back many times. read more

What a great little place . Dog friendly patio and very welcoming folks . We had a guest in need of a gluten free meal . They had run out of gluten free bread but had a number of choices she found . We tried 3 different sandwich's for lunch and all were delicious . The deserts were fantastic . Had 3 of the 4 on the menu ( 2 were gluten free ) and again all were great .
