Martin's! Stayed in Cayucos overnight with my girl. Continental at the hotel was hospitable, but not cutting it on this Sunday. We wanted good Mexican breakfast, and to eat in the room. Martin's delivered! Phone order, and they were all too happy to help! Everything was great! Awesome egg scramble, killer potatoes, best beans EVER. Large portions too! There aren't many choices for a full on breakfast here in Cayucos. Sadly, a couple of places are only open on weekends, and a couple of others have gone out of business. Many choices for coffee and a bagel. Skip this place. Go for the coffee and bagel. Or give Sea Shanty a try. I was the only one eating here. Should have been my best clue. The food is okay but definitely not worth the price tag. And with these prices you'd think you would get more than one complimentary basket of chips which we had to ASK for. They charge 25 cents per container if you want your food to go. The waiter spilled my margarita on the table and I had to mop it up with my napkin. They never brought me another napkin and I was scared to ask for another one lest they charge me for it! I originally gave 2 stars but on further reflection, and the heart burn I got a few hours later, I realize that was too generous. The guacamole tasted like dishwater. The carne asada was tough. The service was so poor I didn't even leave a tip. I am firmly convinced the positive reviews on here were written by friends and family members of the owners. read more

We came here on a Thursday night for some food. The hostess was the waitress, which only happens in the smallest, cash-strapped restaurants. There was another waiter as well. The restaurant is setup really weird, kind of a lounge (high tables/chairs) and low booths and tables. It was odd sitting at a low table because you'd look "through" all the empty high tables to see other patrons or the waiter. After ordering, the food was expected, it kind of had that frozen food quality. I don't know what else to say about it. The food was quite bland and was missing that "something special." The central coast is missing is a *really good* Mexican restaurant. There are many great Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area and LA, but nothing in the middle. After visiting, it is *still* not there. This restaurant is kind of weird, a mixed Mexican/Italian restaurant and unfortunately, they do not do Mexican well. Nobody ordered Italian, so I cannot base this review on that. The prices for the basic dishes were kind of on the expensive side. I guess you expect that in a coastal restaurant... It's weird that most restaurants in Cayucos close at 9PM. I guess the town is all retirees and they go to sleep by then. read more

After having an excellent Mexican dinner and seeing lots of pizza, we tried it the next night. We got take out and tried the chicken taquitos--homemade and really good. We got a large pizza and a dinner salad. The pizza was the best we have had in California...reminds us of the East coast pizza we grew up eating...thin, flavorful crust, tasty sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The pepperoni was spicy and there was plenty of it. A large pizza provided dinner and lunch the next day. We really are impressed by this place! read more

I was out for a bike ride about a year ago, and decided to grab a burrito to take home. With tip, I only paid $7.50 and got a huge burrito, that lasted 2 meals, and chips and salsa. It was delicious! It has become a favorite destination for evening bike rides. They are also REALLY fast. I have eaten in the restaurant as well, and the lasagna was very good. After reading the reviews, I am looking forward to trying their pizza and breakfast. I'm not sure if this is still true, but they used to be the only air-conditioned restaurant in Cayucos, so on the 2 days a year that it gets really warm, this is a good place to cool off with some tacos. read more

Great little Mexican/Italian restaurant...I know that sounds like an odd combo but don't knock it until you try it! I just discovered this gem after reading about it in our local paper. I have lived in the area all my life and can't beleive I didn't find it sooner. We were on a short 'staycation' and stopped by for lunch - my husband had never tried fish tacos and I told him that this would be the best place to try them. He loved them! The fish was fresh, mild and the ingredients/sauce didn't overwhelm the fish. We tried it out for dinner the next night (Italian is only served after 4pm). I had a rib eye (done to perfection) with chicken tortilla soup and pasta as a side, Hubby had chicken parmesian with salad. The portions were large, enough that I could have lunch the next day - they brought foccia as our bread (actually looked like a small pizza round, olive oil with sundried tomatoes). For dessert we had chocolate cake (to go) and flan homemade by the owners wife....devine!!!! The price was very reasonable, for less that $60 we had appetizers, entrees, desserts(2) and drinks (and that included the tip) It took me awhile to find you Martins....but we will NOT stay away long. read more

Great restaurant! Though they serve a variety of cuisines, they do all of them well. My family ordered a burrito, chicken Marsala and chicken parmigiana. All was wonderful- the marinara sauce tastes homemade and the garlic bread was outstanding. Also, the portions are huge- plenty to take home for a future lunch. read more

Every fourth of July, Martin's brings our their grill and has carne asada and al pastor tacos for $2. And they are also the best tacos I've had. Better than L.A. and even San Diego. Wow, honestly wasn't expecting too much, just looking for a bite to eat, but the food ended up being awesome! The pasta was lovely, melt in your mouth. Usually I like a lot of sauce, but the sauce was perfect even without a ton of it, paired very well. I got the meat lasagna, it was delicious! It looked just as good as it tastes. I'm not huge on lasagna normally but if it all tasted like they make it here, I'd get it all the time. Really recommend checking this place out, prices aren't too bad (but of course aren't fast food prices) but are well worth it. We all loved our food, and the customer service was good too. Best Mexican food! We love this place. I always get shredded beef tacos, hard shell w/ rice & beans. My boyfriend gets carne asada tacos. We live in Santa Cruz and haven't been able to find homemade hard shell tacos like this. Martin's is our first stop when we come into town. Came here for brunch - no lines which was nice. There are Mexican brunch options alongside regular breakfast items. Our group ordered a mix of both - I got the omelette with avocado and black beans which was pretty good. The French toast was just okay - we got a side of blueberries but it was basically thawed frozen ones which weren't good at all. I think the Mexican options were significantly better. Overall a pretty standard and decent brunch place but nothing to write home about. read more

Little dark and gloomy indoors and the lack of drink options really left me wanting something more... but... the food was good. I just couldn't get past the dark and depressing atmosphere. There was more light coming from the back door that was propped open than the dining area itself. It went beyond mood lighting and straight into depression. Everything else was fairly worthwhile and I can tell people rave about this place from the reviews. I am giving it a 4 stars just out of kindness. I don't know if I'll be coming back though. To be honest I was really really disappointed in martins. the food was truly not very good and the service was about the same. It was hot as heck on saturday 92 on the central coast with a hot hot breeze. We were hungry and craving mexican food so we stopped by martins. I should have taken my first gut impression of this place and went somewhere else. from the second I walked in the place was hot. they did not turn on their ac in the middle of a heat wave and they definatly have one. it took almost 10 minutes to be approached about drinks after we got seated because the family next to us was very very upset over their meal and service and the waitress was avoiding them at all cost which meant she was avoiding us as well. The family next to use was rightfully upset i felt too. it was a mom and a dad and their two kids. this resturant does not have a kids menu so the parents ordered a pancake meal to split between the two kids. they were not told initially that their would be a 5 dollar charge for the extra plte, whitch would have been the same price if they just odered another plate of pancakes. we finally ordered after being there for 30 plus minutes because the waitress waited for the upset family to leave rather than addressing them and trying to make them feel better. We ordered the Chilaquiles and it was truly terrible it was like nasty breakfast nachos smoothered in pace picante no wayyyyyyy I cant believe they serve their food this way. there is honestly nothing about this place that looks tastes or even feels like mexican food. Surprisingly delicious! We ate here a few times while we were on vacation in Cayucos. I was originally a little weary because how good can a place be if they are focusing on two different cuisines. However, they totally pull it off. The first night we went, I had Italian and my husband and son had Mexican. A few nights later, we swapped. And then on the last night, we wanted take out burritos to eat on the beach. This was perfect. Nice for families. Service was just OK, but food really made up for it! Very well priced!
