We come to Cayucos frequently. And, we'd been to Martin's many times in the past for breakfast (especially when they had the smokin' breakfast special...which they've since discontinued). But, we were looking for a place for dinner that wasn't too expensive or fancy this time, and where the food was decent (especially since some of the other places in town are pretty hum drum from a food quality standpoint). Martin's did not disappoint. Here are a few things to note: - Atmosphere is no great shake...pretty basic, and not fancy. But, that is just what we wanted: casual and comfortable. Lots of booths and some fun high tables. - The menu was really broad. As others have mentioned, there's both Mexican and Italian options. Plus, there is also a broad range of burgers and pizza (as part of the Italian menu). - The food was pretty good. My wife and I split both the Tostada with shrimp and the meat calzone. The Tostada won hands down in our opinion, but the calzone was decent, just a bit too heavy and a little of the crust wasn't fully cooked. In fact, I think that the calzone would have been way too much if it had been my entire meal. My son got the Chile Verde plate and really liked it. - Prices were fairly reasonable for Cayucos, where everything seems to be overpriced for the quality you get. Bottom line: Good dining option in Cayucos...we would go back. read more

Went here on our 15th anniversary and it was great, came back 15 years later and the food is just as good,plates are plentiful and prices reasonable. Now they have Italian food with the Mexican plates. Had the beef enchiladas and they were great, tender meat and flavorful sauces, rice and beans good. We chose this place because it was one of the few places open until 9 pm. It's Mexican and Italian.There are more Mexican dishes than Italian, but still plenty of choices. My sons got the Special burrito, which was pretty big, and the Tacos Mexicanos. Both said their meals were delicious! My husband and I shared a small regular toppings pizza, (tomatoes, olives, peppers, sausage, salami, mushroom, pineapple, & garlic), perfect for two people. The pizza was very good, and the crust was light and crispy! The atmosphere is casual and colorful with Italian and Mexican-themed decor side by side. Came in for breakfast today. Two adults & two kids: 2 & 4. No kids menu, fine. Ordered a huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and eggs, bacon, pancakes with extra plate for the kids. (Off the no kid, adult menu). Chilaquiles & huevos.... meh.., too much of their Italian side showed in the ranchero sauce... too much tomato, not enough chilies. Huevos, over-cooked. No run to the yolks. What really ticked me off, $1.50 charge for the extra plate for my kids, 2&4, to share an adult meal. Food, meh. Service, meh. Price, $$$$$ Surcharge for kids, B.S. I've never been to this area, and as my husband and I were driving through and I looked for the nearest restaurant and found this place. Staff was super nice and friendly. They enforce sanitizing, wearing masks, and social distancing. The fish tacos were really good, I was surprised on how big and flavorful they were. I am really picky and saw other yelp reviews and decided on the fish tacos. They didn't disappoint I only gave them 4 stars, because they did not have toilet seat covers. read more

So I have been to Martin's in Cayucos but it's been on and off the years. We live close by where we don't honestly go to Martin's because well a few times he took me and we got a breakfast burrito even got some other tacos to go and the burrito just had tomato paste in it. It sure wasn't salsa. If you looked at the burrito you see the egg you got to see some sausage whatever and then you see this like tomato paste and it was just really gross and so I give it some time another chance and so today I went with my husband to go to the one in Los Osos. Not surprising, no one besides us were In the restaurant that probably was another sign. So the same thing happened again I got a huevos rancheros There was tomato paste all over it with cheese melted that look like it was melted in the microwave and the potatoes next to it had some pepper but even the tortillas I got we're all broken and then they threw another like broken up tortilla in it because when I was cutting into it it just was gross like it was microwaved. I really try to give this place another chance over and over again I really tried not making a review but once you have the tomato paste and even when I got the plate it didn't look appetizing it just took like this tomato paste all over in the eggs were inside with some cheese sprinkled on top I tried to use the tortillas to make some thing out of it but the tortilla broke on me like they weren't cooked like you have to put them over some heat and I think those were microwaved. I personally had to stop I took a bite try the tortillas and I just stopped eating and I waited for my husband to finish his breakfast burrito which he said it wasn't really that good either and we tried giving another shot to support locally but there's so much you could do when the foods not good it's just not go there personally and a tourist wouldn't know that they just see a restaurant and so oh hey let's eat here and then they realize the quality. Years ago my husband went more often he said the older owners used to do really well and so I think with the new management that they have it's just not working out because the food is paying the price. read more

Brought friends for dinner on a weekday night, and as usual had fabulous dinner. Fajitas and chicken Enchiladas Suizas.. , large chicken burrito covered in green sauce, and the best house salad in town! Returned a few days later because we wanted pizza. I am always amazed that Martin continues to have this great pizza in his restaurant! When you say to someone that you're going to take them to a Mexican restaurant to have pizza they are a bit leery... But never disappointed! Again great house salad! After dining here for breakfast, my girlfriends got tired of me saying, "OMG that was the best breakfast I have ever had," and "That was sooooo good you guys!." On a serious note, this place has such good food! It's a small place and can get crowed quickly so don't leave if it's busy, wait it out because you will not be disappointed. We were seated right away and on one side of the menu is a typical American breakfast and on the other side is a Mexican breakfast menu. I ordered off of the mexican menu and got the new mexican enchiladas. Before I go into how AMAZING my breakfast was (see I told you it was that good) I would like to note that breakfast comes with a side of either flour or corn tortilla. Oh and there is also salsa freshly made sitting at your table for you to spice up your meal. The portion of our meal was humongous! My meal was absolutely delicious, I cut into my meal with my fork and the egg yolk from the fried egg oozed out...yum! The mixture of enchilada sauce and cheese was like a dance party in my mouth. The explosive flavor was YUMMMMMM! My friends loved their meal and it was like we all went into a state of euphoria. So lets wrap this up before I go into a trance from remembering how yummy it was. The service was top notch, our server was on top of things and kept my coffee refilled. If breakfast was this good, I can only imagine what lunch and dinner is like! Cayucos closes down early. Arriving from out of town, it's always nice to have a couple spots stay open a little later, until 9. Martin's pizzas are exactly what you would expect. This restaurant is very consistent. We have been here three days. We have had breakfast and both Italian and Mexican dinners. All are very generous in portions and flavor. Breakfasts are delicious with plenty to eat. I had ham steak and eggs with potatoes and toast. They have daily breakfast specials that are very good. Dinner I had baked penne pasta with cheese which was garlicky and hit the spot. Dinner tonight I had the enchiladas suizas. They have the best chicken tortilla soup you must try! We came here late night because nothing else was open. I really didn't want mexican food because we have that often when we are at home. But the food was delicious and fresh. The service was excellent we had a young lady wait on us and she was great. I ordered a chile Verde wet burrito and it was really good. My husband ordered steak fajitas and it came with tortilla soup that was delicious. The fajitas were really good also. Next time we visit we will definately be eating here. I got the chile verde omelette and my boyfriend got the chilaquiles. The omelette was outstanding. The sauce (and you know it's all about the sauce!) was so good. The red potatoes were really well seasoned and there was enough of the green sauce that I could dip my potatoes in it. Fabulous! The chilaquiles on the other hand were just ok. Kind of a mushy mess. For $80 I got three burritos, one shrimp taco and two orders of chips/salsa. The woman who took our order was very nice. The burritos were huge. The refried beans looked like other restaurants' refried beans. Unfortunately, the carnitas burritos had no carnitas in them. Same with the fish burrito. I'm not exaggerating; we hunted around for meat but no luck. In lieu of carnitas and, the burritos were stuffed with whole pieces of broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. (I've never seen that veggie medley in a burrito before and I hope I never do again.). The chips were stale and tasted like they'd been fried in old oil. The salsa was tasteless. My kids refused to eat and my wife and I had a good laugh that we'd just bought the worst meal we've had in 20 years. Not even kidding. I looked at my dog and just couldn't do that to her so we chucked about $75 worth of food straight into the trash. I wish I had taken pics! read more

This review is for the Italian Menu: marinara sauce used for the penne and lasagna dishes was bland and tasted of canned tomatoes, almost watery. Spizatta alfredo sauce had no flavor, chicken was bland, and again peas tasted straight from can. Meat Lasagna had very little meat and the ribeye was small. Chicken tortilla soup and salad were great! Salad comes with black olives and raw mushrooms and dressing on the side. Service was great as well!
