Both the pimento cheese and chicken salad are great choices. The pimento cheese is smooth, creamy, sharp and in good balance with the mayo. The chicken salad is simply done and flavorful. While $8 per sandwich may seem pricey at first, Marti's doesn't skimp on portions. A generous amount of filling is sandwiched between 2 slices of homemade bread. 1 whole sandwich could easily make for 2 meals. My husband grabbed lunch for our family from here and brought it back to our Air BnB. The food was delicious especially the Mother's Chicken Gumbo with homemade bread. It was true comfort food full of flavor. The chicken and tuna salads were also yummy as well as the chocolate chip and cinnamon peanut butter cookies. I liked this place, but I think I set myself up for disappointment by the fact that I was looking for a headliner option. The portions were great and I had enough leftovers to eat again the next day, which made me feel better about the price. I thought that the pimento cheese could have had a little bit more flavor. I like a spicy pimento or at least a sharp cheddar cheese flavor and it felt almost mayonnaisey with little flavor. The chicken salad was good although if you like a chicken salad with large pieces of chicken this is not the place for you. The star of my meal was the balsamic dressing it was thick and full of flavor. I really would have liked more fruit I think I got about two pieces and the lettuce did not have a great taste. The food was good, but not great. Certainly not worth the high price tag just for a couple of sandwiches. We spent $30 on a ham and grilled cheese sandwich, a scoop of pimento cheese between bread, and cold soup. They pile everything in these weird baskets that make it extremely hard to eat. This place is the perfect place for a lovely meal on a sunny, breezy day. Plenty of FREE parking in the back. The set up of the restaurant reminds me of sitting in my grandma's home. To be honest, I think it might've been a home transformed into a restaurant. Although small, it's really cozy. They give you HUGE amounts of food. Like others said, a half sandwich could easily fill you up. I got the curry chicken salad---the spice didn't overpower the sandwich at all. Pita chips are super flavorful. An extra $3 gets your a whopping cup of pimento cheese. YUM YUM YUM. I rarely order any beverages but I got sucked in on the mint sweet tea. ADDICTING STUFF. They have good pimento cheese, salads, chicken salad, and their pita chips are homemade and very good. My mom tried their cookie one day - HUGE - and said it was very dry. I managed to avoid Marti's for over 10 years as an Athens resident. Paying $6 dollars for a sandwich has never appealed to me, I mean, that's what I eat when I bring my lunch to work, why would I want that when I go out to eat? I ended up trying Marti's a few weeks ago because of a Dealmobs promo and now I can't stop. So far I have only tried the chicken salad, it's so good I can't bring myself to stray, but I vow to try a salad soon, as the ones I have seen on other people's tables look amazing. This is just a great lunch spot. A 1/2 sandwich, which is almost too big to finish, is about $6 and comes with fresh and delicious pita chips (which I now crave all the time) and a really nice spattering of fresh fruit. We're talking blackberries and pinepples here, not some mealy apple slices or half an orange or something lame like that. Dine in and your food comes in an adorable basket, or call ahead and your take out order will be ready when you arrive! Bring cash for orders under $10 and note that this place gets REALLY crowded at noon. Marti's has a great selection of vegetarian-friendly sandwiches and salads as well. Even if you are not a sandwich fan I highly recommend paying Marti's a visit. You might be converted. read more

This is by far my favorite place to have lunch in Athens. Yes, it's "just" a sandwich place, but the sandwiches are made immaculately, with fresh ingredients, and the atmosphere is just perfect. Plus the employees are all friendly and great to see every few weeks. I'm addicted to the curry chicken salad sandwich (the Amy). It's so full of flavor and piled on high (like all their sandwiches - just get a full size and enjoy it again for lunch the following day). I like to scoop some off and eat it with the pita chips as well (which are perfectly crispy and seasoned). I also really enjoy the Tami / Rhett - the turkey is perfectly moist and thick cut. Their pimiento cheese is the only one I like other than my own grandmother's. It's thick, but still creamy, and has a nice kick of spice. I love to get a scoop of it with my sandwich to eat on the pita chips, or if I'm going home for the weekend I'll buy a whole 1/2-1 lb to take home and share with my family (who loves it and hates that they live 7 hours away). If you're looking for a salad, I recommend the Martha Salad (only a half though - I can't imagine how you could finish a whole one). I sub the curry chicken salad for the regular chicken salad, or just add a scoop so I get both with the pimiento cheese. And I love their balsamic dressing - it's so so good. The tuna salad is also a great idea. You have to wash it all down with a mint tea. I tend to go full sweet, but getting half and half is a great idea if you don't have as much love for sweet tea as I do. And if you're looking for dessert, their cookies are huge and creatively-flavored (cinnamon peanut butter and orange poppyseed are winners). Lines can be long and seating can be limited at peak lunch hours, but if you go at 11 or after around 1:30PM, you can miss it all. Marti's is the place to go for lunch in Athens. You can tell it's the locals' favorite. It's always packed with people who work in the area. But you never have to wait long, they have counter service and they are quick. My favorite sandwiches are The Amy (curry chicken salad), The Rinne (pimento cheese) and The Mercer (egg salad), but everything I've tried ends up being a favorite! They even give you pictures of dogs and cats as table markers! I'm not really a huge cold food or sandwich person, so I didn't expect much from Marti's. As stated by other reviewers, the half sandwich is more than plenty. The chicken filling is practically falling out. The filling itself is respectable, but I would have liked a little something added. Perhaps some more fresh herbs or grapes even. The tomatoes on the side were super ripe and flavorful. The pita chips are the star of the plate. Here's where all the flavor is! The salt and pepper are aggressively applied, which I love. I'm also very impressed with their fruit selection, extra sweet pineapple slices as well as some tasty blackberries. Went here for the 2nd time and was mindblown by how rude the staff was. I don't just mean that I had to wait a while on my food...I am talking about how these people need an attitude adjustment. I saw one staff member get visibly angry at a customer and snapped as the customer was trying to order. Then another woman came out from the kitchen and rolled her eyes as she saw a line waiting to order. Aside from the staffs terrible attitudes, there was the salad I ordered. It "looked" delicious, but the only problem is that I couldn't eat it. The caramelized walnuts were a giant blob stuck together on top of the salad and wouldn't tear apart; the apples were such large chunks that I could barely eat them without a knife. I asked for chicken on the salad and they put chicken salad on the side. I had a water to drink and this lunch costs me a whopping $15! I do not mind splurging on lunch every now and then, but it will not be at Martis at Midday again. read more

I went to Marti's at Midday for lunch about a week ago. I adored the cozy atmosphere and the large portion sizes to their sandwiches. I had the Paige, which was a tuna melt served with a side of pita chips. I like the presentation of the food, which came out in cute baskets lined with green and white gingham paper. There was also some fruit with the sandwich. I didn't really like the lemonade I ordered, but that was the only snag at Marti's.
