I don't know if this place is under new ownership, but I have never been treated so poorly in all the 8 years I have been coming here with my family. They refused to give us AYCE unless all parties that ordered AYCE would sit on one side of the table. They wanted to shuffle half the party to the closest visible side of the table. They were assuming the people who were not getting AYCE were going to share from the AYCE party. I refused after getting our drinks and appetizers to get up and accommodate their request for visibility of the AYCE people in our party. When I refused to shuffle my children around, she refused to allow anyone BUT the person in our party that was at the edge and the most VISIBLE to order AYCE. When my husband tried to explain why what they were doing was rude the sushi cook walked away and left him talking. Horrible. Stopped by around 2:30 for lunch today. It was not too busy. Was with my parents and my daughter. They got the two item bento boxes, daughter had the plain ramen and I had the salmon bowl. The service was very slow especially for being so empty. The portion of ramen and bento boxes was good. I was disappointed with the tiny piece of salmon in my bowl it was so small. Been here some many times after school, and the food has always exceeded my expectations. The sushi is so fresh and satisfying, and they have good deals. I recommend the bibimbap DEFINITELY. You barely fine bibimbap (especially good bibimbap) around Upland, and Maru Sushi knows how to cook up a delish bibimbap. Staff is sweet as per usual. Wow!! I ordered delivery through door dash today and the sashimi was so fresh and amazing. I got sashimi which included salmon, tuna and a spicy tuna roll and crunch roll. Out of all the places here in the inland empire I'm impressed with the fish here. It's really good and the lemon is a nice touch. Also the presentation of the bento was beautiful too. This became my favorite AYCE spot in the area. Their menu includes some unique items that you won't normally find at Sushi Martini and Sushi One Spot. They offer salmon collar which is yummy. It's a smaller location so make sure you come at the right time. Service can be a hit and a miss, depending on the staff. I don't want to mislead anyone with the beginning of my review but during the pandemic, they no longer offer AYCE. So disappointing. Since the change, I've only gone a couple of times. Swung by for lunch on a Friday afternoon. There was only one person working the floor and making the sushi so there was a wait for the rolls to arrive, but service was not bad considering the worker was by herself. Opted to order rolls instead of the AYCE which was $34.99/person. Oof! The grandma was my favorite followed by in & out, then Dragonball. My roommate liked them in reverse order of my picks. Must say, I've been coming here for a while now. I must say the service has definitely tanked. There were only for tables in the restaurant, and yeti we were not helped for about 15 minutes. No one asked us if we wanted a drink or if we were choosing the all you can eat sushi option. As I sit here writing this review, I am on hour 2. We have not been able to order a second round on your so called " all you can eat". It's honestly a scam for their fall to can eat menu. This used to be my favorite place for sushi I order the same thing every time and have a history of to go orders. Today I got my usual of Philadelphia roll and it was the skimpiest roll I ever had. They went up on their price and are serving half the quality and food. I called to bring to their attention and they said I can come drive down to return the roll to get a refund. *only coming here for takeout* I've been here previously before for takeout and the sushi was delicious so when my friend and I wanted to go to a sit down place I suggested Maru. We got there on a Friday around 6 PM and the place had maybe two other families in there and that was it. We decided to do all you can eat, which was not the best decision on our parts. I understand that all you can eat sushi usually has a time limit but the way we were rushed was unpleasant, awkward and rude. We were given the menu and we picked three rolls and she then delivered our rolls and immediately wanted us to order a second round we weren't ready so we took our time. She came back multiple times as did another server making us feel rushed, keep in mind no one was even in the place by this time. We felt forced to order a second round so we went ahead and did that and they gave us our second round. They asked us about a third we said we weren't ready so they turned around and left. The server came back and asked us once again about a third round, and we said we weren't ready so she decided to just go ahead and take our all you can eat paper and then handed us the check. I'm giving this a three star just because I'll never dine in ever again here but I'll definitely order takeout just so I can avoid being rushed. My friend and I came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. The place was relatively empty with 3 other parties; however, there was only one waitress and one sushi chef. We were seated promptly. The inside was clean and had three tvs to keep you preoccupied. The sushi here was great and top notch. It tasted very fresh and the portions of seafood were huge compared to the amount of rice they gave you. I really enjoyed all their plain sushi without the sauces as it had a more authentic taste to me. The reason I give it four stars is because our food came out very slow towards the end of our first round and we were waiting without any food for almost 15 minutes because the restaurant got a little busier and there was still only one sushi chef. Our server apologized to us and brought our paper back to start out second round. The second reason was because there was a confusion on our order and the second sushi chef that got here later gave us another order of uni along with our other sushi on accident. We had gotten the uni already earlier and I think they only allow one order per table for the all you can eat. However, one of the other waitresses asked about this and took our full plate of sushi back to the sushi bar, took the uni off our plate, and then gave it back to us. I thought that this was extremely unprofessional. Overall, the food was really good and our first server was very nice. It was just a few things that I hope they take note of. read more

We were very happy to find Maru Sushi in Upland when looking for an AYCE sushi place in the area. We've tried many in the Rancho Cucamonga area, and most are mediocre but Maru is a cut above the others. Price maybe slightly above some at about $35 per person, but the quality is worth it. Not everything they include is on the AYCE menu. We were able to order our favorite seafood salad two times each. It's chef's choice on the fish included so each time was a different mix and both were very good. The fish in the sushi rolls was fresh, and they have a good selection of rolls to please whatever you prefer including rice-less rolls. If you're in the Rancho / Upland area looking for AYCE sushi, definitely try Maru. You won't be disappointed. read more

Unfortunately; my takeaway order was not the best. The rolls were all 90% rice, 5% cucumber and 5% avocado. When you order a veggie roll, you would hope for a bit more veggies to help break up just eating a ton of rice. The rice was overpowering, not fresh and messy (given it had no real filing inside it would crumble at the touch and chunks of hardened rice would be left). When you order a takeaway order, you have to go in with semi-low expectations because things are never as good as they are in person. I will try this restaurant out in person to see if my experience is different and am hopeful that I do, however given a lot of people enjoy ordering takeaway; it would be nice to get the same quality as a dine-in experience. read more

Maru Sushi is a solid AYCE sushi option in the Inland Empire. My husband and I had visited their establishment another time prior to the covid-19 pandemic and felt the sushi was one of the better in the area and fairly priced. We recently came by as dining in started to open up, and Maru Sushi was one of the few sushi spots in the area that were welcoming guests to eat in the restaurant. In terms of safety precautions, it was apparent the restaurant took distancing seriously as they had tables extremely spread out throughout their already intimate space. Staff seemed to also be reduced with respect to servers and those preparing the sushi. With the reduction in service, the efficiency in the restaurant did not suffer. Our server checked in on us frequently and fulfilled our requests quickly. Sushi was prepared and came out in a timely manner as well. For those wondering, at the time we came to visit, they were not using disposable material for the meal (cups, plates, etc.). My husband and I tried several rolls and sushi pieces during our visit. My favorites were probably the shrimp boat and garlic salmon sushi pieces (delicious!). To be honest, we were not as impressed with the quality as we remembered during our last visit. The fish did not all taste fresh and some of the rolls seemed to lack a little flavor. Perhaps it may have been an off day for them as they were just opening up after the quarantine. Unfortunately, taste wise, that visit just didn't meet our expectations. We would definitely give Maru Sushi another try, especially as they continue to get into the swing of things again and adapt to the new normal. We love to support local, especially sushi, and hope to enjoy the great tasting meal we remember from Maru Sushi during our next visit. read more

(This was my first time) I ordered a spicy in & out roll and i forgot the name of the other one but both were sooo good!! He was hovering over us, telling us we better eat it because he'll charge us a $1 for each roll if we don't. I normally love coming to this place. The reason for the 3 stars is that the ramen is different than what it used to be. Not a lot of broth and no veggies. The volcano roll I got, the rice was mushy. I only ate about 2 pieces before putting it to go. Also, my sister got AYCE sushi and on their menu it says for 2 orders or more not eaten, it will be $1 each as it can be packed for leftovers. This is misleading bc they don't charge per order, they charge per sushi item, so if you have 2 full rolls, you're not paying $2 for leftovers, you're paying for an addtl $16. Please be aware of this! This was the first time I went to Maru in awhile & I can say I was a bit disappointed. read more
