We had it first when we were on vacation in Ohau and it's been our favorite since. We've been having to drive to Chino and Arcadia for it so we were so stoked to know that they were opening locally to us. We've been going weekly to this location... they have their staple items on the menu and we've been enjoying it. Love that the tempura items are hot and fresh unlike the Chino and Arcadia locations. There are plenty of seats and love that the staffs assist in showing us to our tables right after we pay for our orders. So far... good and services are great! We also love that we can serve ourselves the toppings at a little station for our tempura pieces, green onions, and etc. Definitely will be our regular go to for udon and we recommend it to all. read more

The food here is good. It seems completely different from the Marugame Udon restaurant in little tokyo L.A. The LA location has their famous uni udon and view of the employees handmaking the noodles. Unfortunately, you will not see that here on the menu and it seems like a fast food type of the place. This is like a chipotle where you pick your own ingredients and toppings with tongs. The udon here is soft and chewy. I will skip the egg next time, since I have a better tasting egg at home. The egg here was not good. It was cold and runny when I put it in my soup. Surprised at how efficient and how kind everyone was. All the workers were really nice and patient and explained to us some stuff bc it was our first time at this location. I highly recommend the cheese katsu curry, it's so flavorful and not overwhelming. I do recommend a regular size, it was a lot lol my husband got the beef dashi broth and it was good, for me it wasn't super flavorful but still good. He got a large and it was a lot for him lol the noodles are made fresh and they are so good. Also upon request you can ask them to make the tempura fresh and they have like a small self serve station you can get like sweet potato, different tempuras and chicken katsus on the side (which was perfect for my toddlers to eat). I was able to visit Marugame Udon tonight around 7:50 pm. We were in line for about 15 minutes in a line that wrapped around the corner. The parking on a Friday night was insane! Yet, we were able to park in the lot near the Cheesecake Factory. After being in line, we were able to see two menus that allowed us to quickly choose our meals. Without a doubt, we opted for the Kake Udon which was under $10 (a $5.99 value) which had udon in a nice, rich broth. We also had the beef udon which was made in a sweet, rich dashi broth. As we passed by the tempura, we also grabbed a tamagoyaki, sweet potato, and potato croquette to go with our meal. I adore their tamagoyaki. Unlike other marugame udon places, we were able to go to a self serve topping station. It was slightly messy since you can grab as much green onion or ginger as you pleased. Although near closing, it was absolutely busy! My only critique is how overstimulated the workers were. The cashiers and cooks barely responded to people, since they weren't adjusted to the flow of orders yet. In fact, I got ignored when asking for support. The two men who were cleaning and bussing tables were angels (Tristan and David)! They were very kind and quick about serving guests and ensuring their experiences were amazing. Shout out to them and their wonderful support. Overall, this place is a great addition to the Victoria Gardens. Marugame Udon is my new go-to spot for a quick, satisfying meal. The udon noodles are made fresh in-house -- you can literally watch them being cut and cooked right in front of you, which is a fun touch. The broth is light but flavorful, and the noodles have that perfect chewy texture that's hard to find outside of Japan. I went with the Kake Udon and added a couple of tempura pieces from the self-serve station -- the kakiage and shrimp tempura were both crispy and freshly fried. Upon arriving, there was no line! Once my family and I lined up, the line started to build. That's how busy this place gets! If you haven't been to a Marugame Udon, the ordering process is the same at every restaurant. You order your udon, wait for your order. While waiting you can see them actually make the noodles (make the actual dough, the noodle making process, and them actually boiling the noodles in front of you. That's how fresh the noodles are). Once you get your order, you get a tray. You continue going down the line. There is a bar area of fresh tempuras you can choose from with the price in front of it so you know the cost. Then you can get drinks/ soda at the register before you pay. There is also a water station near the to-go area. There is a separate area for condiments (such as green onions, ginger, etc). Here you can also get the tempura sauce. The ambiance and seating area is very open, unlike other Marugame restaurants I've been to that's very compact. If it gets busy, there is someone to help direct you to a table. There is also outdoor seating. My family and I both ordered the Nikutama bowl. The texture of the udon was very soft and easy to chew. You can tell it's been freshly made. The beef had great seasoning and was well cooked. And the egg was my favorite - a soft boiled egg and when broken the yolk just runs and is perfect to mix into your soup. The broth had that great umami flavor you're looking for. Although I wish they gave more broth. The tempura has great crunch. The batter is very light. *Note: They bring out freshly, hot made tempuras every so often. So if you want a hot, freshly made tempura (as opposed to one that's been sitting out for a while), keep an eye out and get that one! ;) Definitely recommended! Such a great experience at this new Marugame. I've been to the one in LA so it was so nice to hear that one opened in Victoria Gardens. If you've never been, it's quite a unique experience. You start by ordering from the menu at the front counter and they make your main dish fresh. We got their most common udon and a rice with katsu as well as veggie yaki udon. You can add add ons as well, and then move to the tempura station where you can get additional tempura. We basically tried everything and were not disappointed. For everything we ordered, it was decently priced. Highlights for me were the tamago tempura, shrimp tempura, and katsu rice bowl. They either have open seating if it's not too busy or they seat you if it's busy. The service was amazing, the staff was super friendly and attentive, and they clean up the table after you so you don't need to self dish your bowls after. 10/10 would come again! read more

So happy that Marugame has made it to Rancho!! We used to drive all the way to Chino Hills just to get our fix We came on a Monday evening and the line was not long at all but it sure did move slow. I get that they're new and they're still in training phase but there were SO MANY employees behind that counter which made them more frazzled than helpful. I ordered my usual nikutama. The regular bowl was tiny. The noodles were filled to the brim but the broth was barely enough. I also got a sweet potato tempura. It's open seating like all the other locations. Their topping/condiment station had more variety tho compared to any other location I've been to. Why I gave it 3 stars: it's just not as good as I how I remember it. Idk if it's bc Marugame has so many locations now and they follow more corporate standards but it doesn't hit the same. I used to want to eat this everyday in Hawaii, but after this visit, I can wait awhile. Everything tasted more sweet than umami (including the tempura sauce). read more

Haven't had Marugame since the Arcadia location, so I was pretty excited to see one open out in Rancho. If you've never been, it's like the Yoshinoya of udon. It's fast casual, affordable, and good for what it is. Not the best udon you'll find in SoCal, but definitely not the worst either. The line was long when I went, but it moved at a decent pace. Service was fast enough, and the staff kept things moving, which I appreciated. That said, they give you very little broth with the udon. Next time I'd probably try asking for extra broth. The sauce station and water are self-service, so you can grab what you need without waiting around. I'm just glad Rancho Cucamonga / Inland Empire is getting more Asian food options. The food scene here is getting boring, so it's nice to have something different. read more

Love this place! Came on a Tuesday late afternoon and there was no line. Fast and smooth except waiting on the tempura cause they fry them fresh! Service was fast and server was genuinely kind. Victoria Gardens finally got this fast-food style udon chain and it was packed with people curious to try it. The setup is very cafeteria style where you grab your tray, move down the line, pick tempura, and get your food quickly, so it's convenient if you're starving and just want something fast while shopping around the mall. The tempura was actually the best part because they keep frying it fresh, so everything came out hot and crispy. Service moves pretty quickly considering how crowded it gets, but the condiment station became a traffic jam with people waiting around for sauces and toppings. As for the udon itself, the noodles were way too thick and oddly hard, which made it difficult to enjoy. It didn't really have that smooth chewy texture good udon should have. Overall, not terrible for a quick mall meal, but more of a "fills the stomach when you're hungry" kind of place rather than somewhere I'd specifically crave. read more

So I came here with my boyfriend with high expectations because I've heard a lot of good things about this place. First of all the workers weren't too friendly. The cashier was very quiet and un enthusiastic. For what we paid for we were expecting a sit down restaurant, but it seemed more of like a school cafeteria vibe. My boyfriend and I spent almost $60 for our food. The creamy broth was very underwhelming and barely had any flavor and I would even go as far to say that it was just gross. It was disgusting and we also got the beef curry and it was very sweet and kind of just soggy. I've been to many Japanese restaurants weather it's been in California, Hawaii or even in Japan and this is by far the worst udon I've ever had in my life. I was excited to see they opened up this udon shop nearby and had to come with my fiancé to try it out! The line was out the door which is pretty common, especially during busy times and days. Regardless of how long the line was, it didn't take long to get our order. The prices for the food is decent. The udon is really delicious and fresh. The only thing I didn't like was the self-serve condiment station. People don't know how to serve themselves and are very messy. I would rather have the employees put the condiments on for you and ask for more or less if needed. Other than that. It is a loud and busy. Service was fast even though it was busy and they bus the tables fast so that there are seats. Some people try to save a table but I suggest to just wait until you get your food as they can be accommodating to your party. This location is great! Would definitely come back often. read more

Udon did not really hit - honestly they don't give you a lot of the broth to begin with. If you typically end up with plenty of soup after finishing noodles like I do, you will not have that experience here. Broth is overall incredibly lackluster, being kind of salty and not having the richness of a typical udon broth. Very mediocre beef as well and the pieces of meat are really scrawny (pictured) and I kind of felt bad for it. It was total $50 for three bowls of noodles, two tempura, and one chicken katsu, which I feel is pricey and you could do much better getting the same things from, say, Tokyo Central's dining court. I have never really been a fan of udon (I prefer thinner noodles) but I have to admit theirs is good. We got the nikutama with a side of the kitsune and an extra egg. Basically it was delicious. The broth was great and slightly sweet which I loved. The meat was delicious and the udon was perfectly made. The line was long because it just opened but it moved quickly so don't be afraid to hop in line. They had a kiosk at the side but it wasn't on when we went. We also took ours to go and even with a 45 minute drive, we still had a great meal so imagine how much better it would have been if we had eaten it there. We actually wanted to try their limited edition bolognese but they weren't baking it yet and then had a sign that the creamy broth won't be available at this location until May so will have to try it when it's available. Pro tip: make sure you get some of the tempura batter shavings they have for free. It adds extra crunch and texture to the whole dish. read more

Wish their menu had the creamy udons from other locations and some of their menu items aren't available just yet. Considering it was only the second day of opening, the service was attentive and with a party of 6, we were still able to get seats by the time we got our food. There were some small things that can be (and will probably be) improved over time such as the tempura sauce and tempura flakes running out. However after pointing it out to staff, they were refilled eventually. Side note - if you are easily overwhelmed, this may not be the spot for you. The restaurant can be very loud and bustling. I went here for an early dinner and luckily the line wasn't too long. It does go by quick because they make your food as you go down the line. You just tell them any add ons and pick up any tempura you'd want as you make your way down the line. Not the biggest fan of udon but they made it very soft and chewy. The broth was also delicious and I added some shichimi (chili pepper) to add some spice to it. They also made fresh shrimp tempura (upon our request) and gave us a number so they can drop it off to your table. They have inside and a few outdoor seating but inside is quite packed. Coming from Hawaii, we love the marugame udon, but the line is always out the door. I prepared myself for a similar experience, but was pleasantly surprised that there was no line at all! I guess it was also because it was a Friday at 4 pm, it was a very late lunch for us, maybe a very early dinner for some others. Marugame has such a great deal on the Kake udon, and even w adding stuff on, still so much cheaper than going to another location and ordering their udon w the tempura and toppings that comes with. The onsen egg always slaps and their shrimp tempura has to be in the running for my favorite shrimp tempuras ever. Even compared to other restaurants in Japan. It's got a bunch of coating on it, but not gross and mushy and "breddy". I love the little crunchy bits as well, and make sure to keep adding as you eat so you still have a little crunch w each bite. The staff was so wonderful as well, extremely attentive and quickly clearing out our empty dishes, and frequently checking in on us. Omg delicious! All of us got the same order: large nikutama with a side of veggies and fried tamago. The veggies (steamed cabbage, carrots, broccoli) was an extra $2.99. The beef was tender with a hint of sweetness and the noodles were cooked perfectly with a bit of chew. They also have an array of fried delicacies (ie tempura, tamago) that you can select after you get your noodle dish.
