The crew and I were lucky enough to dine at Mas Tacos on a Tuesday for...you guess it...Taco Tuesday! The venue is on the smaller side but makes up for it in spades with the adjoining game room with pool, music and arcade games. Lets get back to the subject however, 'dem tacos were quite acceptable. The 3-star rating refers to my opinion that they would not be worth $4 each (versus buy one get one free on their Tuesday promotion) and the service was disappointing. While both the barkeep and the waitress were at max capacity to manage a room full of patrons with a plethora of dining and drink orders, I don't remember a single time we were asked to refill our glasses or how we liked our cuisine. It's the little things, after all. The taco's were in the 2-3 bite range, each being carefully made to order. I was particularly fond of the georgia new york strip steak, paired with chimichurri sauce. The corn tortillas were doubled up and toasted just right to not get too soggy. Another hit was the duck confit carnitas with salsa verde. Very approachable portions and the flavors paired well together. If you're looking for happy hour snacks, I'd recommend 3-4 tacos, a little more if you're seeking to fill your stomach. read more

Very disappointing! We started with chips and salsa well the tortilla chips were the multicolor type which are typically bland and the salsa tasted like vinegar. I had 2 pork tacos and my wife had the fish special tacos both tacos had more vinegar tasting salsa on them then anything else ( see picture ) corn tortillas which where falling apart (stale). Beer was cold and the chicken wings where good on the plus side. Wanted to really like this nice little place but can't recommend it. read more

This is how Mas Tacos treats people of color: Tonight my friends and I went to Mas Tacos and Tequila in St. Simons, and our waitress gave my military vet friend this receipt, labeling him the "black guy." He remained calm and polite but it was humiliating. When we called the out waitress on the unnecessary label, not only did she throw her hands in our face and say we weren't meant to see it, the owner of the restaurant doubled down on the label saying "I'm called white blonde lady all the time and I don't get offended" and then said she labels people "white" on their receipts all the time, especially at the bar... very hard to believe when the patrons are almost exclusively white. How about forgoing labeling people by race all together? the owner also wouldn't reprimand the waitress, who we were told has done things like this before to people of color and will speak at length about politics, making others uncomfortable. A terrible way to treat anyone, especially a military vet. read more

You can do better on the island for food. If you like tequila drinks, this place will work for you, but the food is less then impressive. The Mas Arita (margarita) was fine, but nothing over the top. Ordered the Brussel sprouts, curry potato tacos, and wings. There are better wings in the strip center across the street (and I'm not a homer for that place either), and the two tacos were just blah. My wife ordered the nachos and they were cold both times they came out of the kitchen. The atmosphere was good, and the waitress was good enough. Great Tacos and more! Just ate here and had to review. These TACOS are for real! There are about 10-12 different tacos available. Ranging in price from $2- to $6(for the fresh fish) I had the pork taco and it was perfectly cooked pork and with a homemade slaw and topped with the most flavorful pickle...yes pickle I have tasted in a long time. I asked and they make the pickles in House as well. I also had the Heirloom bean and corn taco. You could see that the corn was taken straight off of the cob. Then a drizzle of an incredible sauce. Planning to be there tomorrow. I am going to sample a different pair of tacos every day! Tuesday is 2 for 1. But, don't wait till next Tuesday. No Mas. This is the first time "The Group of 6" ever gave out a zero and actual negative number ratings. Even Denny's ranked a .05 This style-over-substance establishment offers little more than a handful of tacos and nachos. Not just simple but simply bad. Runny, watery, tasteless little things they called tacos and guac that was saturated with a large quantity of lime juice. The seared tuna taco was simply inedible, the duck was quite odd tasting while the beef short-rib seemed to be lacking the short-rib, veggie and pork versions were unconstrained disasters. Corn tortilla was sopping wet and had degenerated into something resembling a debauched paper plate. The Nachos with pork was so wet and awful, we started to think it might actually have been cardboard. Full Gringo? I don't think there's any Mexicans in the kitchen. On the positive side the service was good and decor pleasant, but I would not return. Chances of getting a good meal here or leaving sated....Juan in a million. read more

This is a really awesome place with a relaxed atmosphere. The heirloom bean taco and the cumin potato taco are delicious! They have a few cold tacos I'm not too crazy about but, they taste fine...I just think cold tacos aren't my cup of tea. They are also very well priced at Mas. You can get about 3-4 tacos for around $10 and also order chips and salsa and not even spend over $20. Sweet and cheap! The only problem I have with this lovely establishment is that none of the food taste the way you think it would. Don't get me wrong I fully stand by my statement before. Everything at Mas is flavorful and beautiful cooked but, none of it taste "Spanish". That being said, Mas is still a good place to stop in and get a nice meal. read more

Nothing to call home about. We got the chips and guacamole. The guacamole was not homemade. It seemed like that guacamole you squeeze out of a bag. We also ordered the chips and salsa . The salsa had no flavor. Not to mentioned the bland chips. Their homemade margaritas were the only good thing I had but everything went downhill when one of the gentleman I was with received his check and the name on the Check was "black guy". Talk about racial profiling !!! When we confronted the owner she was totally unapologetic. Basically a "that's how we do it here" attitude. On top of the horrible food , bad service!! There's nothing okay about labeling your patrons by their race, no matter who they are. Despite your claim, you somehow avoided putting a race based label on anybody else at your restaurant. What's more despicable is that you actually engaged in a debate trying to justify your employee's action. Maybe you forgot "the customer is always right" and there's a reason for that. You didn't try to handle this situation in a discrete and less humiliating manner. So to have other patrons looking and pointing to our group adds another layer of insult. All this after paying $350 to your restaurant. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... you won't even get the chance. THINGS I WONT MISS: 1. $8 Chips with guacamole freshly squeezed from a plastic bag. 2. Acidic pico de gallo 3. Raw and cold steak tacos 4. Over salted roasted brussel sprouts. 5. Horrible and very disappointing! Started with the Guac and chips, all we tasted was lime juice, and should have left then. Quaint little place with great drinks and an unique menu. Taco Tuesdays are good for trying the many different tacos as they are 2 for 1 all day. Very adequate service overall, very clean restaurant and nicely decorated. A little on the pricey side during normal days; something that would normally cost you 2-3 dollars is 4-5 for example. The food is excellently presented and the quantity is just about right. Overall taste for the taco menu (I haven't tried anything other that the tacos) is very good. So I go to this restaurant with a group of my colleagues after work for dinner. To my surprise I was the only one identified by the color of my skin and gender while my colleagues were all identified by their gender and the color of their clothing or group number. I was just the "black guy" on my receipt. When I spoke to the manager and the owner and explained how I felt how I felt humiliated in front of my colleagues, they told me they saw nothing wrong with what their waitress did and that they didnt think I would notice that it was on the receipt. They refused to apologized and acknowledge the fact that they singled me out on the account of the color of my skin. Why couldnt I have been described as my colleagues ? I could've have been identified by my clothing and gender as they were as well. Ive been a waiter and I have never once have ever identified a patron by their race. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The food was cold (despite being sent back), not flavorful, and in some cases completely inedible. We tried most of the tacos, the brussel sprouts were too large to bite into, the meat was cold and lacked flavor and couldn't tell a difference between the pork and beef, the nachos were just chips with cold meat, a tiny amount of guacamole, some chopped onions and tomatoes and a barley any cheese. The dorolocos was a bag of Doritos with sour patch kids and other weird things dumped in and a bottle of hot sauce poured on top - disgusting. Do not waste your time, money, or tastebuds. read more
