I have two expensive suits alterated by Mr Ma and he did a great job a on them. I was so impressed by their skill and service, I ended up tailor made six more dress shirts from them.

Stripe on the front of the dress left by the tailor.

Do not trust this tailor!!! I had a horrible experience bringing my dress to have the slip hemmed (nothing to do with the front of the dress) and 3 large stripes, burns? were left on the dress. No accountability was taken. I will never ever ever EVER bring anything here again. Be warned, poor quality service!

Hemmed to exactly the length I asked for!

So glad I found this place! I recently moved to Outer Richmond earlier this year and went to Helen's Alterations in the area for one of my altering needs! She did an OK job but since it was right before Halloween weekend when I came in she was frantic and said it would take longer than usual. I was fine with that. Fast forward a few months - I was in a bind for shortening a skirt for my engagement photo shoot and I needed the dress back in 5 days. She completely freaked out and said that was impossible since she has sooo many weddings, bridesmaid dresses, etc. I took my skirt and was about to leave when she said, " OK I'll do it for you but for $70." She was saying the skirt material was difficult and she would have to stay late this week blah blah. I told her no thanks and left. All I had to do was travel a little further to find Ma's Alterations! He promised me it would be ready by my Friday deadline and he took a lot of time to measure and make sure he was being precise, as well as checking for my approval during the process. The dress came back PERFECTLY HEMMED - straight, exact length I wanted, and with no evidence of having been altered. The best parts were his considerably cheaper price than Helen's AND it was done a day EARLIER! What I was being told needed at least a week at the other place literally took him 3 days. I am so happy with his attention to detail and customer service - I'll definitely be back.

Got my dress hemmed and his jacket tailored! A+

Always do a great job! Got my dress tailored and my boyfriends jacket. Both were fantastic.

My wedding dress fixed to be more fitted, was a little loose before around my thigh area before. Such delicate fabric to work with too!

We booked an appointment well in advance, arrived on time, and somehow still ended up waiting 45 minutes before the fitting even began. Already, that was incredibly frustrating. When our stylist finally started helping us, we explained what we were looking for, but from the beginning, we never really felt like we were being heard. She didn't seem particularly knowledgeable about what to recommend based on what we were looking for. We came in expecting some level of expertise, someone who could walk us through different fits and options and help my dad find something that worked for him. Instead, it felt like we were largely figuring things out ourselves. Eventually, we landed on a suit my dad liked, and the stylist had him try on one of their sample suits in his size range as part of the made-to-measure process. Naturally, we understood that a try-on sample wasn't going to fit him perfectly. And there was one particular area where the fit was noticeably off, so we asked whether that was something that could be adjusted or tailored when making the final suit. She simply told us no. And then, rather than suggesting another size, another cut, a different suit, or literally doing anything you would expect from someone whose job is to help customers find a suit, she told us that if this wasn't working, then maybe we should just go somewhere else. We honestly could not believe what we were hearing. What kind of sales associate tells a customer to go shop somewhere else simply because the first suit they like doesn't fit properly? At a store specializing in suits and tailoring, no less? We weren't being difficult. We weren't demanding anything unreasonable. We were asking whether a suit could be altered, and instead of helping us find a solution, we were essentially told to take our business elsewhere. That alone would have been enough to make this an awful experience, but the lack of service continued throughout the appointment. When our fitting began, the stylist could barely give us the time of day. She was distracted helping another customer and repeatedly disappeared while we were supposed to be in the middle of our appointment. We were left standing around waiting for her to come back with no explanation and no idea where she had gone. And what makes me particularly upset is that this was my dad shopping for the suit he would wear to my wedding. My mom and I came with him because this was supposed to be a fun, memorable experience for the three of us. Instead, we spent the appointment waiting around, struggling to get anyone's attention, receiving almost no meaningful guidance, and then being told that perhaps we should just shop somewhere else. I've worked with and shopped at plenty of retailers, and I understand that stores get busy. I understand that associates sometimes have to juggle multiple customers. But there is a huge difference between being busy and making someone with a scheduled appointment feel like an inconvenience. If you're running 45 minutes behind, acknowledge it. If you need to step away to help another customer, communicate that. If a suit doesn't fit, use your expertise to recommend another option. You don't tell the customer to go somewhere else. The complete lack of care, attentiveness, professionalism, and basic hospitality was astounding. We walked in ready and willing to purchase a suit for one of the most important occasions in our family, and somehow SuitSupply managed to make us feel as though they couldn't care less whether we were there. So we took the stylist's advice: we went somewhere else. And after this experience, I have absolutely no desire to ever come back.

You'll be warmly greeted by Daniel, who is as idiosyncratic as he is confident. You will share your vision and Daniel will share his expertise. Praising your good ideas and candidly letting you know your bad ideas. We begin the measuring process... with a PROTRACTOR. What is he doing with it? Solving for y = mx + b? Finding a parabola? And every other measurement necessary to create the tux that is perfect for you. You'll come back for your first fitting and it will already be near perfect. Despite all of the materials being bought, handcut, and carefully constructed to you, he will still offer you your money back guarantee. If you are not happy with this fine italian tuxedo made for you, he will give you back the $2,000+ you paid. But of course you will be happy. Him and Lily will have a little banter about what needs to be fixed. (This is good I think, keeps Daniel humble.) They'll fix up the tuxedo one or two more times and you'll be good to go. It'll look great but when you wear it on your special occasion, you'll really notice that you're wearing a million bucks. Daniel is quite generous with his gifts and advice. I would ask him why? And he says it's because he likes me. Does he actually like me? Maybe, I sure hope so! Regardless, I like him and Lily enough to spend the most I ever have on a suit. And I am very happy with my decision. 100/10 would recommend.

I also coincidentally used to work in that area in my suit wearing work years. I would sometimes bring my collared shirts to be cleaned there or jackets that required dry cleaning. In the past few years, I've brought my mom's old jackets and bed comforters to clean. Back to the now, I recently had a major 'oops'. I tried my work neighborhood cleaner but they could not clean my special stain. I came here while on an errand and spoke with the lady co-owner. She examined my problem and could not guarantee being able to clean it, asking me to return in a week. Having a bunch of errands that day, I forgot to pick up my shirt until the following week. Upon getting my shirt, the lady co-owner told me that her husband spent several hours to remove my difficult stain. Big thanks to the husband and wife owners for appreciating my joy in wearing this shirt especially with the Orange and Black doing so well this season. This is just the more reason to support local minority owned businesses.

He had some ideas in mind and so I started the search online. Only a few stores got back to me, and fewer still were able to do what we were looking for, and Knot Standard was one of them. There was a small hiccup in our initial experience - when trying to book online, the confirmed appointment time didn't match what was actually requested (tried more than once and it was always off by an hour). In the end, it was easy enough to email the consultant (Maggie) to fix the issue. We met with Maggie a few times over a few months. The initial meeting was getting an idea of what Knot Standard offers, prices, timelines, etc. Throughout the meeting, we felt informed but didn't feel overwhelmed (for the most part) nor pressured to continue the process if it turned out not to be what we needed. The following meetings were consultations + advice, measurements, fittings, and any adjustments. Maggie is very experienced and was able to answer our million questions! In the end, he chose a blue-ish purple fabric (from Italy IIRC) for a 3-piece tux. We were even able to bring a piece of home with us to our destination wedding via a hidden embroidery of our cats on his inner pocket. He also bought some custom-fitted dress shirts. Pickup was a breeze and included a couple garment bags and a pocket kerchief.

After returning to the office and needing a complete wardrobe refresher, I found Knot Standard during tailored made suit searches. I'm making an appointment was very easy to do online. Maggie was our sales rep and she moved at lightening speed making recommendation of patterns, styles, and textiles. After just a quick 45 minutes, we purchased 3 suits, 2 jackets, and 2 dress shirts. The total was roughly $14k for all of this. Unfortunately one of the suit fabric was out of stock but a close substitute was made. About 6 weeks later, I followed up on the arrival of the clothing and scheduled an appointment for the fitting. During the fitting, my husband and I were shocked that everything fit him perfectly without needing any adjustments. He said the clothes fit him so well, they felt like they were clipped on him like a Lego piece. He was so happy with the look and fit of the clothing, he purchased another suit. Additional Comment-The unfortunate part of my experience is you must be the one to follow up with your suit's arrival. Your sales rep-at least in my experiences-never was the one to call or email me saying the orders where in. Every time, I have had to email the sales rep and when she didn't respond, email the company and they have never responded. So, if you want your orders, it is all up to you to follow up.

I had four dresses that needed alterations for several upcoming weddings and initially sent Tina photos of all of them. Rather than accepting every project, she carefully evaluated each dress and agreed to work on only two. She explained that while the other two dresses could technically be altered, the fabric and fit would make it difficult to achieve a result that met her quality standards. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism. Many businesses would have accepted all four dresses, but Tina was focused on delivering work she could confidently stand behind. Her transparency and commitment to quality immediately gave me confidence in her expertise. During my first visit to Tina, I brought both my dresses to try on to assess the alterations that I needed done (mostly hemming). She provided a quote at that time, and stated that payment could be made at pick-up. I found her pricing to be very reasonable given the complexity of the dresses (material and multiple layers). The two dresses she altered turned out beautifully. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the fit was exactly what I wanted. The turnaround time was about two weeks from drop-off to pickup, which I found very reasonable (especially since I had told Tina there was no rush). She clearly takes pride in her work and pays close attention to the details that make a difference. One thing to note is that English is her second language and Mandarin is her first, so there can be a bit of a language barrier. If you speak Mandarin, communication will likely be even smoother. That said, I found Tina to be thoughtful, professional, and genuinely committed to achieving the best possible result for her clients. I would definitely return for future alterations and would highly recommend Tina's Alterations to anyone looking for quality workmanship and honest, trustworthy service.
