This restaurant is a complete meh. First the service was super slow. It took them half an hour from ordering to bring out the soup and appetizers. The sushi was total lackluster. The sushi looked as though they were made by someone at home for the first time. They did not at all look fresh. The tuna had some really weird color. I had to spit out the avocado pieces because the avocado was un-ripe and had the texture of silicon. The rice was hard and did not bond together, so the sushi fell apart and could not be picked up whole with chopsticks. Overall, I do not recommend it this place for sushi. read more

No rolls came apart, and nothing was burnt. Family of five ordered 11 rolls and around 60 pieces of sashimi, as well as some appetizers and soup. We got in at 12 and left aroujd 2:30. They start their dinner course at 3. We ate on the longer end because we got in before the crowd, but was almost the last group to leave before dinner started. For how cramped and many patrons Masa serves, it's impressive that they even can serve the number of customers that they do. Their sushi offerings are pretty diverse, with lots of options from sashimi to speciality rolls, and I enjoy the all-you-can-eat business model. They don't stuff their rolls with too much rice, but they do limit which kinds of fish you can get as sashimi... even sometimes forcing/shaming you into eating all the rice on the sushi you get. The starter dishes are okay, but a little bit too oily. Compared to other all-you-can-eat sushi joints, the price is also a little bit higher for both lunch and dinner ($26 for the latter). The service is unacceptably slow; Masa needs to get more sushi chefs and waiters and eating in there, elbow-to-elbow, makes me feel like I'm being packaged in a can of tuna. I've been here at least 20 times because this is the best AYCE sushi place in the area. Masa is ALWAYS crowded at night so plan ahead. Most people come in groups and BYOB. The ceviche, spicy seaweed salad, and Mexican roll are my favorite specialty items. The sushi and sashimi are pretty standard, aren't super high quality, but good enough for the price. Even though almost everyone comes for the sushi, they also have some great things on their regular menu such as the pepper tuna salad and the beef stir fry. Speed of service has been hit or miss but when you're with a group and a GIANT plate of sushi comes out you forget about the service. I wish handrolls were standard on the AYCE menu. read more

Awful experience. Food was flavorless and not fresh. Everything is served on paper plates, in paper fast food trays, paper cups, paper condiment holders and plastic utensils. Service was slow but restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday and they were clearly understaffed so it was understandable and we had no problem waiting for our food and server. I have been to several all you can eat sushi restaurants and have never been served on paper plates. Especially for $27 per person. Pros: Good sushi. Nice location. It isn't great, but it is good. The service is fast. Their lunch price is cheaper than the one at Sushi Palace, but they also have things that are "dinner only" and their dinner cost is more than at Sushi Palace (who still has a larger selection, btw.) They also have free refills on drinks if you drink something other than water which sushi palace does not have. Cons: As I've found in most sushi places like this around here, you are seated very close to strangers. Like within elbow distance almost. They do this at sushi palace also although they have a bit more room in-between the tables there. The selection isn't as good as sushi palace, IMO. They don't have nearly as many appetizers, nigiri or sashimi. They do have a decent selection of rolls, but they aren't rolled very tightly and honestly weren't anything we raved over afterwards. 3.5 stars I had low expectations for this restaurant. Chose to come here because was craving sushi and they had a good choice of non sushi menu items, including ramen for the misses. The sushi is pretty good here! Rice is near perfect in texture and flavor and sushi is fresh. They have a made to order all you can eat menu for lunch and dinner. Lunch is $18.95 and dinner is $24.95. As far as I can tell its the same menu for both, so lunch is a great value as there are specialty rolls, apps, and some cooked menu items included. There's a good variety to choose from look at the menu I took a pic of under the restaurant tips. They don't make the rolls with excessive amount of rice either, so they don't try to sucker you with the all you can eat then load you up with rice. That's good because they will charge you extra for left over rice 'balls" and food. The bad thing is the service . It's non existent or ambivalent wait staff. We went early lunch time around 11:30 am and there were many people eating already. By the time we were ready to order, it was 11:45 and groups of people started filing in. Our waitress walked by us a bunch of times to tend to the new patrons instead of getting our order in! We didn't order to about noon. Seriously she could have took a minute to take our order! I think they are under staffed The manager actually came to take our order! Our tea was not refilled until I had to flag someone down. Of course, that wait staff only filled my wife's tea! Smh. I know my cup was only half full but you can still fill it as it has cooled down. The nice thing is the food does come out quick. Definitely would come back again to get yummy sushi at a great value, especially for the locale. I've been to crappier towns with a more expensive price point. Went here twice last week. I live 10 minutes away from Masa Sushi and these are the first visits I made. My verdict: why did I wait so long?? Yes, it's more expensive than Sushi Palace. But then again, the fish is actually FRESH here. The service is FASTER. The waiters are FRIENDLIER. Overall, Masa is greater than Sushi Palace. I love me some all-you-can eat sushi. First I used to go to Sushi Palace. Then my boyfriend introduced me to Nakayama Sushi in Hazlet ($30 pp but it's awesome there!). Now, I've discovered Masa Sushi! I still like Nakayama a little better, but for the freshness of the sushi/quick, friendly service/convenient Princeton location, I love Masa. Don't complain about the price. You get what you pay for, and your experience will be better than at Sushi Palace. ALSO: BYOB! --- I was here last Friday with my boyfriend. We went around 7:30pm and they were packed. We asked to sit at the sushi bar. There were about 4 sushi chefs working. We got our drinks promptly and after ordering food, they began serving our orders in less than 10 minutes. Did I mention it was PACKED in there? Once we started eating, we were amazed at the freshness of the fish. Always start off with the Spicy Seaweed salad! If you're used to Sushi Palace menus, you'll find Masa's spicy seaweed salad on the entree menu, not the appetizers. Server checked in on us regularly. Free refills. We asked the sushi chef for a side of jalapenos and he gave us a bunch without any trouble. We asked to save 2 free seats next to us as my parents decided they wanted to join us last minute. They didn't save the seats, which I don't blame them for as there were a flood of people that came in as soon as I asked them. Ended with green tea ice cream and red bean ice cream (red bean is not on the menu, request it). Both were creamy and not artificial tasting like you get at some places. We had a decent handful of sushi left and was not charged a fee for having leftovers. Final bill was around $55 for two people. Worth it for the fastest sushi service I've had to date! Better than Sushi Palace in service and food! The price is 18.95 for lunch on weekends as well. I like the taste of their sashimi and love love their spicy crab salad. Rolls: Highly recommend the Salmon Lover, Mexican, and Kyoto Roll. They don't charge extra for green tea and their green tea ice cream is great. I would recommend going at off peak hours as we would be waiting a while in between order since the place was PACKED on Sunday @ 1 pm. Been eating here since 2018 and now that it's opened back up for dine-in my wife have been back and it remains our favorite all you can eat sushi restaurant in the area. We always leave satisfied and the price is very reasonable. Last time we went we brought a bottle of white wine and they immediately popped the top and brought it back in an ice bucket to chill it for us. Solid sushi buffet, and a steal for lunch at $18.95 per person. So let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first - how does it compare to Sushi Palace? It depends on what you're looking for. WHERE MASA WINS: Ambiance / Service - Masa Sushi definitely wins in ambiance and (generally) service. While Sushi Palace feels like a sushi AYCE place, Masa feels like a nice restaurant that happens to also offer AYCE. Lunch - Sure there are a few offerings missing at lunch (i.e. soft shell crab, the masa ceviche, eggplant sandwich, fruit), but all in all, it's a steal for lunch. Yellowtail - The yellowtail here was definitely my favorite. SO FRESH. Definitely waay better than sushi palace. Special Rolls - I liked that the rolls were stuffed with fish/avocado rather than rice. My only gripe is that they seemed a bit too stuffed with avocado (over the fish). The sunshine roll was a huge winner. Size of food - The rolls / sushi / sashimi here were generally larger pieces than Sushi Palace. I guess it doesn't really matter since it's all you can eat anyway, but it's nice not to have to order 50 pieces of sashimi to get the equivalent 25. Hibachi - The chicken hibachi was surprisingly good! Although it was quite a big portion, so perhaps make sure you have a lot of people to share it with. WHERE SUSHI PALACE WINS: Salmon sashimi - Masa's sashimi was good, but I think I might like Sushi Palace's a bit more. On the other hand, the sashimi slices at Masa are really big (not the tiny pieces at Sushi Palace if you order a lot). Variety of sashimi/sushi offerings - Masa offers Spanish mackerel (that Sushi Palace does not), but Sushi Palace offers EEL (so good) and albacore. Spicy Seaweed salad - The version at Masa had a little bit too much mayo, so while it was good, I think I prefer the Sushi Palace version. Dinner pricing (esp. weekdays) - Since the weekday prices are just $20.95, it's definitely a better choice for dinner (even on weekends). Like Sushi Palace, Masa would forget a few things from our order here and there, but I guess it's hard to get everything right. Other than already mentioned, the age tofu and shumai were good, and the green tea ice cream was a nice way to round out the meal (they don't have red bean though, which Sushi Palace does have). In general, I think I might like Sushi Palace a little more for pure sushi (since they have eel sashimi) but with the price differential, I think I'll be visiting Masa Sushi more often. UPDATE: Having gone back to Masa Sushi several times, and the quality of the yellowtail has never been as good as the first time. Perhaps the first time was a fluke. The shumai, however, was surprisingly good. Also, the roll I got was good, but it also had an ample amount of wasabi over it, which I did not enjoy. Also, went to dinner and tried the fuji yama, which is this weird combo with deep fried salmon and mango. Wouldn't try that again. read more

Atmosphere - 4 Service - 4 Food - 4 This place is very popular, even on a Monday night. Jam-packed, Masa had a small line of potential diners waiting to try the buffet menu. Granted there were many diners, I still had to wait around 25 minutes before my sushi arrived. Fortunately, the appetizers came before that. The shrimp tempura and was extremely well-made: The batter is light and crunchy and the shrimp itself was great. I also ordered the seafood udon, but this dish was very disappointing. Masa clearly tried to cut corners as the udon only came with a single piece of shrimp. I had heard the sushi was made to order so I was expecting some pretty good sushi, but it was alright at best. Nothing to write home about. However, the sashimi was much better, even with a limited pool of options. The fish all tasted fresh. However, beware the white tuna. It may actually be a fish called the escolar, and large consumption of this white-fleshed fish may cause certain digestive issues. Regardless, it was very juicy and flavorful. For dessert, I tried the green tea ice cream and it may have been the best item I ordered. Creamy and delicious, this ice cream is nothing like the typical ice cream you find at buffet offerings. I ordered a la cart sushi, a dragon and a spider roll, both are smaller than usual, mostly rice with tiny bit of eels or crab meat. The dragon roll was kinda slimy, something was off there. And the spider roll just tasted foul like rotten crab that was deeply fried. After eating these rolls, I was desperate to go find something palatable to wash off these taste from my mouth. I could have sworn that I reviewed Masa Sushi before, but I guess not. A coworker, now friend, took me there and I have taken others there. This includes the BF and, most recently, my brother. So, the BF likes this place because he likes the club vibe with music and hanging beads. We typically would do early dinners to avoid the wait. The food is quite good, I mean it. The all-you-can-eat is very worth the price. The reason for the three star rating is that while I feel they are getting more and more successful, there seems to be less of a focus on small details. For instance, there is a set of icicle Christmas lights hanging at the top of the main window. First, they add no value. Second, half the lights are not working and the rest are dull which makes for a rather depressing take on what is otherwise a relatively lively place. Another example is from the last visit where not one, but two waitresses couldn't figure out the chicken scratch on a white piece of paper to determine who among the masses waiting to be seated was next. It was sloppy. The point is that it would be a shame if things went downhill for the silly kinds of fixable things that I speak of. read more

This is my go-to. It's in the corner of a shopping plaza so it could be hard to find at first but it says in huge letters "MASA" in front of their restaurant so you can't miss it entirely. Once you go inside, it feels a lot fancier than you would expect. The outside looks like one of those "all you can eat buffets" but the inside has modern decor and has a lot more quality to it. As far as food goes, i LOVE it. The food is always fresh. I never feel like the sashimi was sitting around for hours, and its never fishy or anything. There's a lot of different sushi rolls, sashimi's, and other appetizers and dishes that you could choose from, and the best part is that it's... ALL YOU CAN EAT. You can opt out of doing the all you can eat, but why would you pay more when you can pay $20-$25 and get all the sushi and entrees you want? For someone with a big appetite like me, it's perfect. For someone who can't eat much, maybe not so much. But either way, you're getting quality sushi with tons of different combinations to choose from. read more

When my friends at work were offering to go out for all you can eat sushi, I said to myself, "how good can all you can eat be?". The answer? AWESOME! All above the bar cuts of delicious fresh sushi and sashimi excellently ordered an delivered with precision (masa). And not JUST all you can eat sushi but the "trimmings" and sides I would have never expected. Noodles and Katzus and Dumplings Shumi!!They have it all, soups salads, and more. For example I loved the tiny little French fry like calamari and lone shrimp tempuras delicately plated each with a unique sauce. So very special and delicious. Both the pork and chicken Katzu had a ketchup-like sauce elevated with what I am guessing plum. Really good sauce. The last time I was there a party of 4 guys paid roughly 80 minus tip and easily ate over 300 dollar of what it would cost for sushi ala cart at any other place with that level of quality. The white tuna and salmon were by far the best cuts although every cut was high quality. Service was excellent, drinks always filled and attention given to delivery of dishes and the removal of plates. And yes!! The meal also includes dessert. Your choice of ice creams and some other choices. I really enjoyed the red bean paste ice cream. I like the ambiance. Light trip hop was playing the last time I was there and is was a very cool spa compliment to the "sushi gavage"! Don't believe it! Try it for yourself. My first and last visit today. The udon soup was too salty. Fried items soggy and tasteless. Sushi rolls with crunchy rice, some others super soggy. I was peeling the rolls to avoid the rice. I was called out rudely for doing this, "we don't do this, you can't unroll the sushi". I was then spoken about loudly and rudely in front of the whole restaurant, as if I was a criminal. I have always had great service and food at Masa but super disappointed by last night's experience. Had a reservation for 5 people at 5pm. We arrive on time and the hostess tells me there is no table for 5 available and we will have to sit at a 4 person table. I saw the table and sad no chance will 5 people comfortably fit there and we would like the table for FIVE that we had reservations for. She was clearly annoyed at me for speaking up and told me that all the larger tables were reserved. I said we also have reservations and to seat us at the proper size table that should have been reserved for us. After a few min, she told us we will have to wait for another table to leave. I agreed. We waited about 20 min or so which I didn't complain about albeit annoying. The food was great as usual but when I tell you we waited and waited and waited for drink refills for over 30 min several times throughout the meal, I'm not exaggerating. No apologies. Just attitude.
