Tried this place for my birthday and it was fabulous ! First ordered the cauliflower appetizer and it was very good. I had a scallop dish with a sauce that was a flavor explosion of sweet, hot & spicy - just amazing, I will definitely order that again. My daughter had grilled prawns & vegetables which was not only great, but a generous portion too. Cannot wait to go back there. The restaurant is small, pretty and was quite busy. Incredible food in a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. It's nice to have a place when you order max spiciness they knock it out of the park. Small but interesting changes to the little things, like how the pakora isn't just shredded carrots and cabbage, but separate fried potato slices and cauliflower. Masala Craft is an excellent restaurant in every way. The food was delicious and exotically engaging, and the atmosphere and service were sublime perfection. Been there a few times and the food was pretty good. One star because the service was absolutely terrible. Waited for more than an hour to get our food and the waiter doesn't even bother to say sorry. Her attitude was the WORST I have ever endured and we were on the edge of leaving the restaurant. We had a great take-out experience! The bartender, Natalie, was super nice and knowledgable about whiskey while I waited. The chicken tikka masala and the ghee roasted chicken at spice level 1 were perfect. The chicken was maybe a tad dry but the sauces and flavors were spot on. We also enjoyed the samosa with chutney. The naan bread was a great texture though I would have preferred cooked over raw garlic on the bread. My only real complaint is that the entree prices are a bit high for slightly smaller than average portions. read more

This is "the place" to eat in Williamsburg. The family owned and operated restaurant serves up the best Indian food in the area. Period. You know this place is the real deal as chefs from other restaurants eat here as does the in-crowd locals. Tandoori lamb shops - fantastic - as is the Butter and Ghee Chicken (two separate dishes). They serve Indian Beer which perfectly pairs with the dishes. The dishes come with Naan bread (go for the garlic option) and basmati rice. Dishes are priced perfectly. The Mother and Daughter wait on the tables with a few high school students helping out. Dad's in the kitchen and once ordered the food arrives quickly. Their name pretty much nails' it - CRAFT. BTW - these folks are busy and if your phone call is not answered then don't leave some comment about that. Get over yourself...this place knocks it out of the park! read more

Like everyone else in Williamsburg, I have fallen in love with Masala Craft. I've been 5 times now and ordered take out once. The quality is very consistent. They are definitely in need of servers and tend to get backed up. This isn't the place to go for a fast dinner, but it's an excellent spot for catching up with friends over Naan and wine. So far, I've had the Cashew Korma, Tikka Masala, and Sarson ka Saag, and I'd recommend them all! read more

Masala is a wonderful addition to Williamsburg. My husband and I just had lunch there and it was outstanding. I had the house curry with baked, not fried, tofu and they not only got it right, they repeated it back to me several times. The lamb appetizer who intriguing and my husband enjoyed his shrimp dish. Literally the best Indian food in Williamsburg! We've eaten inside and the space is gorgeous, but their takeout is just as amazing. Every time I order, my food is ready on time and hot. The portions are honestly huge - the chicken cashew korma is a favorite, two of us split it and there was more than enough food leftover, the portions of rice and naan are definitely share worthy. Everything is always perfectly packaged in appropriate food safe containers and they are extremely conscious about packaging separately for food allergies, etc. They also make the best samosas I have ever had. I took my daughter and two college friends to Masala Craft for lunch this week and they are already planning a return trip from Pennsylvania to eat at the incredible restaurant again. The service was impeccable and every dish was superb. We even enjoyed a bottle of Indian Shiraz. The chef came out twice to make sure my special food allergy request was satisfied. I also had a cocktail with turmeric infused gin which was absolutely fabulous. There was nothing I would have changed about it. Somewhat sweet, perfectly spiced, unique, and marvelously refreshing. We have eaten Indian food in several countries and the food here was very good. We had samosas, lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka Masala and the level 3 spiciness was as I hoped for a medium curry. The portions were a bit smaller than I would expect but maybe because it was a lunch combo with salad. The restaurant was modern, very clean and the servers were really pleasant. THE BEST Indian food in Williamsburg!! The first time I ate here I got the Tandoori chicken, which came with seasoned grilled veggies and masala gravy on the side; I also got the chaat of the day as a appetizer and a side of raita for my entree and the portions were good for the price. I cannot stress how delicious my food was! And the service was amazing-- we got seated quickly and our servers were quick and attentive and kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything. It was so good I got takeout a week later and had the lamb rogan josh and got some onion chutney to try. Both were so good it made me tear up, dead serious. I live in Richmond and try Masala craft first time, the food taste was very good and different from regular Indian restaurants taste, less creamy and more flavorful. I want to appreciate the service too; my order came very late because of croud but with the good behavior and service from staff and specially the Indian lady host was so good we didn't mind and instead we appreciated the authentic taste we got there. read more

One star is too high. The food is expensive, and marginal at best only once you pick out the chicken bones, fat and skin. The service is atrocious, and borderline racist. There were ethnic Indian patrons present who appeared to receive quality service, while patrons who were not Indian received a very different experience. Mispronunciation of the Hindi titled dishes is met with initial befuddlement, followed by a condescending correction. "What number you want?!" The wait staff is inconsistent and indifferent. Several people will visit your table - all of which will be rude, snide, and in my family's experience - borderline hostile. There was a particular young girl who loved rolling her eyes every time a refill was asked for - this was the hostile one. No smile; welcome; thank you; you're welcome, or fair well was offered at any point. The elder woman (possibly manager or owner) acted like we were an inconvenience to her worth only minimal attention. This was the second, and last time I will be visiting. I'd recommend another Indian restaurant in the area, but they're all owned by the same family. So, the experience is consistent throughout. Fingers crossed that this garbage restaurant goes under soon and makes room for something else. Total cost of 4 dinners without alcohol was almost $200. Not worth it in the least. Should have gone to Starbucks next door. read more
