I went here on a whim after reading a few reviews I knew I had to make the trip - and it was 100% worth it! Everything is home made with love you can taste! The service is warm and kind, a small family operation that makes you feel like you are sitting at someone's dining room table. I already can't wait to go back! Get the dumplings!

I have heard good things about Maschall's Kitchen through social media. They have great reviews so we finally decided to try them on a Friday afternoon. Their location has plenty of parking. Inside, they have a buffet set up but it's only available on weekends. We were graciously greeted by the owner and told us about the menu. I ordered the Afghan dumplings that everyone was talking about and it definitely lives up to the hype! It's similar to a Chinese dumpling, but their version has a garlic yogurt sauce, which added so much flavor, it was delicious! My husband got the Kabuki Pulao. This meal was a bit of a disappointment, it was a big portion due to the amount of rice, but it only comes with 2 pieces of meat! We did inform the owner and he did confirm that they only put 2 pieces of meat! I think for $21.99, they should add more. Overall, we will probably still come back for the dumplings and try other dishes.

Got to admit me and my friend pulled up to this place and it's like a hole in the wall but definitely not disappointed by the quality and quantity of the food! The gyros was huge, huge and huge and yummy for only $7.99! The dumplings were also delicious and authentic! I'm bringing my husband back for sure to try out their buffet this weekend!!!

Someone on FB had said that they had Mantu and that was all you had to tell me. I love Mantu!!! It's an Afghan-style dumpling with beef with a yogurt sauce. I got an order of it delivered and I should have known better. The last time I got it delivered it got seriously tossed around so it didn't look as good as it would plated. Maybe if it was in a smaller container so that they don't bounce around. However, the Mantu were still delicious! Thanks!

Maschall Kitchen near Southside is a hidden gem for authentic Afghan food. Their Bolani was freshly made, crisp and flavorful, Mantu dumplings were rich and comforting, and the Afghan Burger is a spicy, satisfying wrap. Don't miss the tender Chapati Kebab--simple, delicious, and full of flavor. A must-try spot for Afghan cuisine lovers at very affordable prices.

I opted for the lunch buffet and it was great. Lots of variety and all the food was delicious. That day they had a beef & potato stew, a chicken & tomato stew, stewed eggplant, a bean dish, spring rolls (??? but they were good), fried fish, kofta kabobs, hummus, tabouli, baba ganoush, coconut cake and baklava among other things. Also, shortly after I was seated, a basket of soft, warm grilled pita was brought out from the kitchen to me. I've seen pix of their food on the 'net and it looked good to me but it actually tasted even better than what I'd imagined after having looked at the pix. The wonderfully spiced kabobs and the smoky baba ganoush were particularly good. I don't even like baba ganoush but I went up for seconds and devoured every last bit! Best I've ever had. I never get rice at a buffet and the owner implored me to but I balked. Now I'm kicking myself for that because after having looked at others' pix of this special preparation, it looks amazing. Next time. What bummed me though was that as incredible as it all was, the place was deserted! I'm a slow eater, was in there for over an hour having arrived at noon and the entire time, I was the only soul in there eating. Please support this place, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. And please forgive my food pix - the art of attractive plating has never been my strong point. Just trust me - it's all delicious.

The owner/manager was very kind but let us know when we arrived that the bartender was not there and he did not know how to serve mixed drinks. Not a huge issue with us- we opted instead to share a couple bottles of wine to make it easy. We were a little surprised by the price of the bottles ($40 each for a Josh and a Meiomi). It was a very slow night with only a few other tables so service was quick. We started with an order of the Mantoo, hummus, and baba ganouj. The mantoo was definitely the favorite starter of our group. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. Our group chose to order a large mixed kebab family style platter with rice and a variety of meats (ground and sliced chicken, ground and sliced beef, and lamb). The menu said it was portioned for 5 but man was it huge! There were 5 of us and we all ate large portions and still each had a take-home box after. The rice was amazing and so was the lamb. I had a variety of both the beef and chicken and preferred the sliced meat vs ground meat. After dinner, we decided to go back to our college days and order a hookah on the lounge side. We had a fun, relaxed time. I had never had this type of food before but thought it was delicious and would definitely order from there again. The pricing was great except for the bottles of wine

We visited on a Friday for lunch, and the dining room was about 40% full--comfortable, not crowded, and easy to enjoy. ** Pros ** * Atmosphere: -- The space is surprisingly nice for a buffet. Two walls feature projected moving murals, and another showcases a large mountain scene. It creates a relaxing, modern vibe. * Food Quality: -- Everything we sampled--and we sampled a lot in small portions--was consistently good. -- Temperatures were spot‑on: soups were hot, desserts were properly chilled. -- Flavors were on par with other Asian buffets in Jacksonville, and in some cases better. -- The hibachi station is on the smaller side, offering two meats and a handful of vegetables. It's possible they expand options at dinner. -- Sushi selection was solid, with all the standard rolls you'd expect. -- The pork bun was the best I've had in town. It was light and had a great taste. * Value: At around $14 per person for lunch, we felt the price matched the quality and variety offered. ** Cons ** * Limited Variety: The overall assortment isn't as large as some of the newer buffets that have opened in the past year. Maybe the assortment is a bit larger at dinner or on the weekends. ** Overall ** We felt the visit was worth the drive from the Southside, and we'd happily stop by again when we're in the area.
