First, it was so nice to have something outside of my usual diet. We ordered the butternut squash soup, borscht, and Tefteli, large beef meatballs, which came with a side and I chose buckwheat. The portions are huge. Here a cup of soup is what would be called a bowl anywhere else. The borscht was really good. (I've been making my version for more than forty years, and like my own better but this version is made with beef, and quite tasty. I like my food to be hot, and our Ukranian waitress was happy to accommodate, taking it back and warming it quickly. It was served with sour cream and a delicious roll. My lunch companion enjoyed the butternut squash soup. I ordered the Tefteli too, but I was too full, so just tasted it, packed it up and had it for dinner. I had forgotten how much I love buckwheat. The last time I visited M&B was April, 2016, when the owner was Tatyana. She made the best borscht I have ever eaten. The new owner made a beautiful borscht too, and my wife says it is more authentic than Tatyana's. Disappointing, though, were the potato-stuffed dumplings, though I have no doubt they are very authentic. Next time I'll try the cabbage rolls, which ought to be good. A note to Anya: Get some help in the restaurant or you'll work yourself to death. Someone could do the breakfast and early lunch period and give you a break. I don't give 5-star reviews lightly, but the food was so fantastic I couldn't give less in spite of a few drawbacks. And there were no children in our party! The enormous bowl of solyanka was so stuffed with meat and veggies it was more like a stew than a soup. The vareniki were delicately flavored, the stroganoff consisted of thin strips of beef rather than the usual ground beef, the chicken ragout was too strongly flavored with turmeric and pepper for my taste so I passed it to another member of our party who likes spicy food and he loved it. I tried the peach cookies for dessert and my daughter ordered the honey cake - they were both completely acceptable. But the blini my husband ordered were divine and will definitely be what I get next time. I am not any kind of Russian food expert so I can't comment on the authenticity but I can sure rave about how good it tasted! As everyone else has said, service is SSSSSLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW. Even though we were the only customers for the hour and a half we were there, it still took quite a while to get menus and even longer to place our orders. The food arrived one dish at a time. Maybe the chef only had room to prepare one item at a time? The young waitress was very sweet even when we kept requesting additional dishes and bowls so we could share orders. It is a very small place, maybe 6 tables? But I love trying these little hole-in-the-wall spots, often they turn out amazing food, and this was well worth trying. This place is DELICIOUS!!! It is a one woman shop at least when we went there so be patient because it is absolutely worth it! We tried the borscht which was very hearty. This place is charming with great food. I was visiting from Texas and tired of hotel food. It is small, 5 tables, but very clean, and food is homemade. Had Oliver salad and stuffed cabbage rolls with mashed potatoes and sour cream( huge)Yum!! Also homemade macarons ( I got almond) raspberry, oreo, and pistachio. Charming Russian children's program on TV. Great for kids, family, etc. Two miles from Radisson Hotel in Aurora. Behind Bent Fork. Very reasonable prices. Free WIFI. Friendly. Casual attire. Very nice surprise. The presentation and taste of the food was quality. The portion size was also quite fair. We ordered the cheese platter, a bowl of borscht, cabbage meat rolls with mashed potatoes, and a gyro. Some complimentary bread with sour cream was served while we waited for our food. The sweets looked very inviting, but did not order them because we were pretty full from our meal. Please do not let the whimsical decor of the place deter you from trying it - it is a place worth visiting. The customer service was also very welcoming, and if I didn't live outside the state, I would definitely make this place a repeat. Excellent. Ordered on DoorDash. Stroganoff and cabbage rolls. Food was properly packaged for delivery. Tasted both upon arrival. Stroganoff was delicious, but I found the cabbage rolls bland. I ate 1/2 the stroganoff as the portion was large. The beef was very tender. The next day I reheated a cabbage roll. So glad I waited to review. The spices had melded over night and the cabbage roll was great. Loved that they sent full fat sour cream to accompany. Despise the low fat version. Real butter for the bread. Just had the most amazing meal! The food was true comfort food, prepared with tremendous pride. Our company party bought out the restaurant for the evening, and each person attending had nothing but high praise for the exquisite cuisine! I was looking for a family friendly place for my family to take me for Mothers Day dinner when I came upon Masha and the Bear Cafe. My kids are huge fans of the cartoon and I've been wanting to try Russian food, so I was excited to check it out. I ordered stuffed cabbage leaves which was very tasty and my daughter loved her pancakes that were made to look like the Bear from the cartoon. We have ordered from these folks numerous times now and each time the experience gets progressively worse. Our family loves authentic Russian food including beef stroganov as a staple. We typically order the same simple order and this time around I added desert-the chocolate mousse cake. The food arrived cold, did not taste anywhere close to fresh, and the main preparation for the stroganov we asked for was completely ignored. The chocolate mousse cake was literally inedible at $5 a slice it was just completely stale - the cake layers were crusty and hard and the "mousse" was so hard you could not eat or enjoy it. Such a disappointment from what seemed to be such a promising quaint eatery. I'm still trying to figure out how they dont get in trouble for ripping off the graphics and name of the cartoon that has the same name of the restaraunt as well. Happened on this restaurant purely by mistake, and so glad I did! Judging by the colorful cartoon characters on the exterior, I initially thought the small shop was a toy store or something else child related; but then I saw "sandwiches and salads" on the window and decided to give it a try (my initial destination had been Panera for a light late lunch...) Having never eaten Russian food before, I asked where to start, and the owner couple suggested the borscht. It was fantastic! I arrived during the lull between lunch and dinner, and so I had a chance to chat with the owners - she from Siberia and he from the States they said. They were extremely pleasant people and eager to ensure my Russian food experience was a positive one. As I was finishing my borscht, I was offered a sample of a pastry with chicken and cheese, and it too was excellent. The couple said they'd only owned the shop for a couple months and were in the process of expanding their offerings and capabilities. This little gem of a cafe is a breath of fresh air. If you like Eastern European/Russian food, definitely plan a trip here to enjoy a relaxed lunch in a kid-friendly place that offers excellent entrees. The borscht, meat dumplings, and potato dumplings were homemade and delicious. The desserts (a peach favored treat and triple chocolate cake) were amazing, and Turkish coffee left me with a wonderful coffee buzz. This place is such a nice change from all the new overpriced, hip and trendy corporate places that overpromise and underdeliver.
