This is one of my favorite places to stop by when I'm in the area. I usually call in and place my order before arriving to avoid the prep wait or lunch/dinner crowd. I always order the Chicken Kabob plate with white rice, hummus and tabouli or double tabouli sides. The chicken has a nice flavor and there's an option of white, yellow (chicken flavor rice), or brown rice. There are also other menu options but the chicken kabob tend to be my go to. Customer service is always friendly. If in the area check them out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Southern California! I drive from Orange County just to eat at their Crenshaw location! The food is very high quality and the cooks do a great job on making anything you order very delicious! I brought my out of town friends here and they loved it! Mashawi Grill is totally on my speed dial. I use this place regularly for catering my work luncheons and meetings. My clients and associates ask for it by name! The food is so good! High quality meat- steak and chicken and THE BEST hummus I've ever tasted. The owner told me its a traditional family recipe. Its amazing. The meat is always tender and delicious, super fresh too. This spot is great for anyone trying to eat healthy- a perfect paleo menu! Vegetarians love it too- I can eat their salad and humus with pita all day. My go to meal is the Mashawi Salad- which is a terrific meal as it has chicken, rice, pita chips, onion, cheese... so good, or the chicken breast kebab with humus and salad and steamed veggies. We noticed this place one night when we stopped by In n Out to pick up some food. We both love Mediterranean food so we kept this place in mind next time we were craving some. One day we decided to try this place out over our usual fav, Open Sesame Grill. There was only 1 other family at the time so I didn't think it would take that long for us to get our food but unfortunately, it did. They were so SLOW. Now, it would be okay if it was slow because the food was going to be oh-so-good but unfortunately, that wasn't the case either. I got the chicken shawarma plate and DH got the chicken kabob plate. It was the worst chicken shawarma I have ever tasted. My chicken tasted kind of stale, dry and had no flavor. DH's chicken kabob was better but was really bland, no flavor at all. I wouldn't have felt too bad if it didn't cost us that much to try it out but unfortunately, it was kind of pricy for horrible food. I know it seems like I'm exaggerating but I wish was. It was so bad that as soon as we left, we tried to find a Yogurtland or some kind of a dessert place to wash out the bad taste in our mouth. I wish we had a better experience so we could have returned but I think from now on, we'll just stick to Open Sesame Grill whenever we crave for Mediterranean food. read more

I tried Mashawi Grill when it first opened and loved it so much that I keep coming back for more..... :-) What makes Mashawi kabob's so flavorful and yummy is the way they roast their kabobs over fire. (The Verb Mashawi stands for "Roasted over fire"). All the plates comes with pita bread, hummus plus my favorite the amazing garlic spread yum yum yum but stay away from me since I will smell like garlic for days ;-). They also allow you to sort of customize your meal since I am not a rice fanatic, I choose to have my chicken and beef shawarma on a bed of Greek Salad and a side of hummus. CARB FREE Oh yeah :-) I also have tried Fattoush Salad, a good middle eastern toss made salad with crispy pita chips so yummy and you can add chicken or beef if needed. Overall EVERYTHING I have tried here is tasty and the grilled texture is mouth watering and to top it all accommodating and friendly staff makes Mashawi Grill a perfect stop when I crave Mediterranean food. read more

Combo Shawarma Plate Ordered the combo shawarma plate, $11.95. This was a little too big for lunch and yet probably not enough for dinner, and the same would be true for the pricing. When the Greeks & Hispanics put stuff on a stick and twirl it around in front of a cooker, the stuff is very good. However, I have yet to experience the same effect from Shawarma. The stuff I got here was crispy and dry from being too close to the heat, and tender, moist from being a few centimeters away from the crispys. I like it and hate it. Maybe the shawarma is just not for me, I'm not sure. The place is clean & new, the staff friendly and making sure everything is staying clean & new. This place is way over priced and the food is not that great. I ordered the beef skewers combo with a drink and my total was $17 and change. I was really expecting more for what i paid but i was highly dissapointed. To start the beef was over seasoned and i could barely finish it, And the jasmin rice was not all that great. I do have to say their garlic fries were good but i have tasted better. It is not a horrible place it is just definetly not the best and if you come here i recommend you get the chicken. There is another mediterranean place not so far from here that serves way better food, The Hummus Factory, in El Segundo. The cashiers need to smile more and be a little friendlier. Mashawi Grill is aiiiiight!! I thought they were expensive to tell you the truth. I ordered a chicken kabob plate and the chunks of meat were flavorful, but too small. As for the sides, I had brown rice, salad, and humus...neither stood out. And the garlic sauce was too salty. I liked this place when they first opened, but they're getting really stingy and their quality has dropped off a lot, especially for the relatively high price. I usually order their chicken shawarma wrap, which is pretty tasty. It says it comes with garlic sauce, the my most recent visit, there was barely any hint of garlic sauce in my wrap. Luckily I'd ordered an extra cup of garlic sauce, but MAN are they stingy... they didn't even fill my little condiment cup half way!! And seriously, garlic sauce is one of the highlights of any Mediterranean meal. I also ordered some lentil soup. And of all the mediterranean restaurants i've visited, this is by far the most bland and boring lentil soup I've ever had. The lentils weren't even broken down, so it tastes like vegetable stock mixed with some undercooked veggies and lentils. Yeah, totally not worth it. The only reason I will stop by occasionally is because it's close to work. But otherwise, there are much better mediterranean places around. read more

Every meal we ordered has over cooked meat. I ordered the lamb kabob plate and asked for medium rare but it was cooked well done. I expected a better meal since we paid $16 for this dish. My son ordered the tri trip wrap but the meat inside was super dry and did not taste fresh. Also, their garlic sauce seemed to have changed since the last time I was here. You have to like a little bit of crisp in your shawarma. - Juicy and flavorful kabobs - The Mashawi salad is filling and delicious - Plenty of healthy and delicious options. On a paleo, low carb, no carb, low fat (I disagree with your approach), vegetarian diet? They got it. Remember, you can replace the rice that comes with any dish with a different veggie side. - Free grilled jalapenos and tomatos added to any meal - Having tried so much from there menu, I've only been disappointed with 1 dish (see below). That's a pretty good hit rate - Affordable Cons - Chicken soup is bland (this is the ONLY dish I haven't liked from their menu) - They make everything fresh thus it takes a while to get to your table (could be a pro) I eat here at least once a week. Mashawi Grill is my alternative choice for fast casual Mediterranean food when I want to mix things up. I usually go to Chicken Maison, but occasional I like to venture out of my comfort zone for something new. For starters, Mashawi is very clean and modern, but also has more of a owner operated feel as opposed to some of their competition that have a uniform and commercial look and feel to it. Depending on what you're used for a restaurant, that may be a hit or a miss for you, but I like affable environments that promote restaurant serenity contrary to a noisy commercial big box chain atmosphere; You know, sometimes you just want to sit down and have a meal without all that ambient noise from the chaos going on in the restaurant. Pauline, who is behind the counter is a very friendly lady and will do her best to make sure all your needs are met while dining. Ask her for recommendations if you have any questions! As for the food, I enjoyed eating the kebab plates, but everything in general was pretty good. There was a particular one entree that stood out from the other kebab plate entrees: $13.99 kebab plate with your choice of proteins. This one came with chicken and tri-trip and there were two sides included with the dish as well; I recommend the tzatziki sauce and tabouli. The entree item's portion is too big for one person, but not enough for two people. If I were the business owners, I'd either scale down the dish and offer it at a cheaper price or add more kebabs and increase the price to make it a shareable dish. Overall the dish is quite tasty and that's why I would gladly add Mashawi Grill to my list of restaurants on rotation for Mediterranean cuisine. Of course, like my Mediterranean restaurants the pita is complementary with your meal. read more

I purchase their hummus religiously every Monday night, when I have an appointment in the area. It's the ONLY way I force myself to eat vegetables throughout the week!!! It's thick, creamy, and heavy on the tahini, the way hummus should be. Their Beef Lula Kefta is to die for--- mouthwateringly flavorful. I would be okay eating nothing but that for lunch and dinner every day. Lebanese is one of my favorite cuisines....I can eat everyday. This place is not authentic Lebanese or Mediterranean. Had tri tip shwarma plate- meat was dry, rice pilaf was old, and pita was stale. Chicken shwarma plate was even worse. Seemed like they'd ground up chicken w bones and all sort of parts to cook on the spick. For the first time ever my husband and I both immediately felt sick and did not finish either of our plates. My husband usually has a bottomless pit and eats everything, so this suffices as to how bad and unauthentic the food was. I'm sure the higher star reviews on here have never had this type of cuisine before so had no standard to compare it to. Stay away! read more

After watching patiently for almost a year as this location was built out group of three finally made it in for lunch, frankly I was expecting a little more and was slightly puzzled by the portion sizes of our group's selections. Selection 1 was a tri-tip Shawarma wrap was very small about the size of a small hot dog, add some fries and a drink and you are at $11.00 Selection 2 tri-tip Shawarma plate comes with two side for $11.00 add a drip and you are at $13.00, about 4 times the food of the wrap Selection 3 Shawarma combo plate, 1/2 chicken and 1/2 tri-tip, at least that's what they say, compared to my friends selection #2 it was about twice the meat for the same price. So unless the cook just game me extra or shorted my friend it's hard to understand the disparity in size of two plates that are priced the same. It took a little longer than expected for them to make our food considering there was only one other person in the restaurant and all they really need to do is carve the meat off the skewer and put it on your plate it could have been quicker and once we got the food both the beef and chicken were a little on the dry side. Price was reasonable for what we got and comparable to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area but I was unable to discern anything above average in any of our lunch groups meals. read more

Wow! Shocked! Greek restaurants in the South Bay have become almost as trendy as Peruvian restaurants. I believe it's the "health kick" that are making these types of businesses so successful. However, Mashawi Grill caught me off guard. I was expecting the same ol' thing. I was wrong. Mashawi Grill offered flavor and an ethnic uniqueness that I have not seen yet in a Greek restaurant. The food was somehow different. I ordered. I ordered the Triple Shawarma. What is that? Thought you'd never ask. Triple Shawarma is Marinated chicken & Tri Tip carved from a vertical broiler. You get your choice of sides so I took advantage of the rice pilaf; that was an easy choice! The second choice was a risk. I asked the sweet young lady taking my order for a recommendation. She advised me to try the Tabouli. Tabouli is an Arab salad containing mostly Parsley and Lime Juice. It was interesting. I would only recommend this dish if I were stuffing pita bread with meat and needed a garnish (taco style.) Other than that, not for me. It was too strong to eat alone. Other than that, the food was delicious. The staff was welcoming and sweet. If I could make one recommendation: I would serve hot Pita bread with the orders. Mine was cold and un-cut.
