"Bang bang shrimp" had tails which ruined the only bright point of the meal. Our meals still had not arrived 45 minutes after we "finished" the appetizers. The hot dog my child got was cold on a stale-ish bun with overcooked fries. Our waitress was nice WHEN she was around so that was a plus. Ended up leaving before receiving our main came out but we took it to go. It was served on a hot dog bun sized long roll (not Kaiser like advertised) and tasted like it was prepackaged from a big box store. We were limited to 1 "side" with our meals and we both chose coleslaw which tasted like it was made on Monday (this was a Saturday night). Very disappointing. Dined alone, staying near on a business trip. Waiter suggested Memphis baby backs, baked beans and Mac n cheese. Ordered half rack. $18 with 2 sides and a small piece of cornbread. 6 ribs were tasty but not out of this world. Was served floating in what I was later told was a barbecue sauce (looked like a red broth). There were 2 jars of sauce on the table. One sweet and tangy, the other said regular. Stopped into the Mason Jar before a wedding in the area to grab a quick bite to eat and was back later the same night for the wedding's after party. The Mason Jar is a pretty cool place. Very big with lots of seating. We ordered apps the first time which were good. Your standard bar food of a soft pretzel and a platter with wings and potato skins. We also tried the brie cheese appetizer which came with slices of toasted bread and a jam on top of the cheese. Very tasty a nice classy upgrade from typical bar food. The pretzel was the best overall. Really nice soft and doughy pretzel with not too much salt. The service was ok, a bit of a wait to get the appetizers. However, orders were taken quickly and drinks came out fast. The night scene was cool too. A live classic rock style band was playing in the atrium. No issues with service getting drinks late night too. Overall good experience here. Giving just a 3 because we didn't fully get to review the food by getting a main dish. Awesome The staff are friendly and good beer selection. Great for meeting up with people for lunch and dinner. Every time I come I'm super pleased. For lunch, my usual is a burger with sweet potato fries that comes with a great special sauce for dipping. This past week I got a chicken parm sandwich and they got it perfect; the chicken was moist, the sauce tasted homemade and semi-sweet. It came at great temperature as well. The bun was about as fresh as it gets. The food is full of flavor and comes out quick. For dinner, I come here with family and friends from both upstate NY and North Jersey because it's in the middle of the two. I went with 2 other friends. One friend has not eaten indoors since the pandemic started. We were all coming from different directions of 30+ miles. They advertised outdoor dining so we agreed to meet there. Guess what no outdoor dining, the section was closed off. The service was slow and not experienced with inside dining, I can only image what the outdoor dining experience would be. The menu looked amazing. Descriptions were great. What was served once the food arrived was sad. The quality was terrible. For instance, this was the menu description for our appetizer: Tuna Crisp $11.50 Seared Ahi tuna served over fried wonton crisp, sliced avocado drizzled with spicy Wasabi dressing. What came out was raw tuna about the size of a sugar cube over something that l could swear was a Dorito Chip and was very disappointing. We also ordered the Short Rib Quesadillas $13.50 Caramelized onions, ripe avocado, Manchego cheese, pico de gallo and cilantro. Someone needs to take their chef or menu writer to a Latin American restaurant so they can learn the difference between a Burrito which as what was served vs a Quesadillas that was advertised. If you like pub food and dont mind having a somewhat lazy twenty something server wait on you, then enjoy the Jar. My quandary is that the food is pretty delicious (open steak sandwich is a yum!) What should have been a pleasurable experience dining with old friends ended up leaving " A Bad Taste" in our mouths. read on: when you see two large signs with very big letters saying CHEF WANTED! HELP NEEDED which have both been up for well over a year. Don't stop. Keep going. We were seated and promptly served. We have dined there for decades. That night The food was just OK. The restaurant wasn't busy. There were many empty tables. No one, at any time, during our meal ever came over to see if we wanted anything or was everything alright. I had to stop a staff member walking by to get a glass of water. There was no busboy assigned to our table "help wanted"?. So the empty plates were left astray on the table. Our waitress accidentally spilled the coffee. In her defense a member of our party had a knee brace on his leg which protruded. She knew about it. Having no clear place to put the coffee ( unbused table) didn't help. She quickly left the table and didn't return leaving us with a puddle of coffee on the table. Nobody was coming to clean this unsightly mess up. "busboy?" After some time as I got up and was going to the front, the manager came and sopped up the mess with the table napkins.. We sat there disgusted. We didn't see our waitress ( or anyone else until the check arrived. Coffee refill? More water? Desert? I guess that we were the "invisible table"! We used two credit cards to pay the bill and were given 3 receipts and a duplicate for each. The manager explained that there was an error on the first receipt that was then corrected hence 3 receipts (6 counting dupes). She would "fix" it. Why did we get 3 receipts? I questioned our waitress before we left and she immediately "cut me off " and argued that she had been a waitress since the age of 13 etc. She then left without me finishing my sentence. At the receptionist's desk I stopped to speak with the manager. She promptly, rudely, cut me off. It was happening again! She kept saying (3X) that she was at the table 45 minutes ago, are we being timed? I was trying to tell her that in my many decades as a business owner we are obligated to hear about any problems or complaints, in their entirety Without Interruption. Usually followed by an apology," thanks for bringing that to my attention". She sternly, with a slightly elevated voice barked "What Do You Want From Me!" This is totally amazing! I am now on the defensive. We just received the worst service that I have ever experienced in a restaurant. I guess that I DID SOMETHING WRONG? Instead of having a confrontation, I elected to leave. The burnt ends were so phenomenal, I called the restaurant afterwards to have them pass my compliments back to the kitchen. So I came here for a coworker's going away party. We had the private area in the back with a little over 30 guests present which was great because it allowed for some fun shenanigans to ensue. I guess when you combine me and an equally legendary Puerto Rican who loves to yell out "Peesures" (pictures!) only the best of times can happen. The restaurant has a nice rustic, almost western ambience about it that feels very welcoming. I could instantly tell that it is frequented by loyal patrons from the area because it exuded the sort of environment. I would have no problem coming here for lunch, dinner, or maybe even just for some drinks. No doubt I would have fun. Because it was a party, the restaurant laid out a nice buffet for everyone to have. There were three proteins available: chicken francaise, beef brisket, and stuffed flounder Florentine. The pasta was a nicely cooked penne with brisket sauce, and the two side dishes consisted of a vegetable medley and potatoes au gratin. The bread was fresh and flaky and the salad was crisp and refreshing. Overall everything that was served that night pleased the party. There was something for everyone to have (they even accommodated the vegetarians in our party) which is always a plus when you have such a diverse group. Overall the service was great, the drinks kept flowing, and the dinner was a great send-off for a wonderful person. I will apologize to the other diners that evening though because there was no doubt we brought down the whole house with our rambunctiousness. Our waiter was very below average. We waited to GET OUR ORDER TAKEN for 15 minutes and then we didn't get our complimentary bread for another 15 minutes. Many parties that came in after us received their food way before ours. We were seated at approximately 7pm ordered at 7:15, and didn't receive our main courses until exactly 8:30. That's over an hour wait. On the other hand, one of the members of my party had unknown objects in their tea twice. Another member had a weird mushy substance in their coffee. The wings were WAYYYY below sub par as well as the buffalo shrimp. The ribs I ordered were sub par and somewhat dry. They kinda tasted like some cheap spare ribs I could order at the local Chinese restaurant. Was not impressed. Many of my parties food was not nice and hot as they expected. My party of 9 unanimously agreed that they would never come back here ever again in their lives. McDonald's would be a first choice over this restaurant. read more

However, he made the following comments in response to the food, service, and the setting: "The ribs were delicious" "The service was great; that waitress was very helpful." "I like the restaurant...I can hear myself talk." From my perspective, the food was delicious; I ordered the Memphis ribs like last time, and my Dad had the potato skins. I agree that the service was good; the server provided us with helpful information about the sauces and food options. This was consistent across both visits. This is a great local restaurant. The hostess was friendly and greeted us immediately. We sat quickly and the waiter was quick to come over. The French onion soup was delicious, the portions for the Cobb salad were more than fair and the flat bread pizza was delicious. As it was a Friday, it was busy. I'm sure that these characteristics magnify when there is a band playing. We got to know the Mason Jar from dropping our younger son off at Ramapo College; we've usually been here as a family. Pleasant Wait Staff Good Brunch Only had brunch here, It was diverse, fresh, clean and properly presented for a buffet. All the items I tried where good, no shoddy fill you up junk on the buffet. One of my friends suggested the Mason Jar for brunch as she heard it was one of the best in the area. We gave it a shot a couple weeks ago and what a display of food! They have breakfast items including corned beef hash, breakfast burritos, bacon, sausage, waffles and an omelet station. They also offer fresh pancakes and eggs made to order in the kitchen and brought to the table. Lunch items included stuffed shells, taco bar, coconut shrimp, chicken francaise and mini cuban sandwiches. There was a ton of different cold salads, shrimp cocktail and cold salmon to choose from also. Deserts included cookies, cakes, ice cream sundae bar, and fresh fruit. Although there was a ton of food nothing wowed me. A lot of the items I felt were dried out even though we got there at 11am. Also disappointed that a bbq place didn't offer any bbq options on the brunch buffet. I would give it another try though in the future. I believe the price runs you about $28 per person which included the buffet and coffee, tea, juice or soda. After 12pm, you can order $1 bloody mary's or mimosas. Can't beat that right? read more
