My family has eaten here a few times. Several people told us that it was a good restaurant. The first few times were great. The past few time we've gone on Thursdays for the wing special. One time was okay, but the last time, our wings were not completely done. They did try to give us more wings but they seemed rushed. This last visit made me not want to go here ever again. This was not a good experience. It seems everything was bad! I ordered a Sprite with lemon and the turkey Cobb salad. First the drink arrived and it was minus the Sprite, tonic water and lemon. I had to ask for it to be returned after informing the waiter. Next, the salad arrived and it was presented to me like it someone thought it looked like the picture, but instead, the spinach was spoiling and avocado was brown. When I told my waiter, he had this what do you want me to do about it look! Then he said I will see what they can do. He came back with a menu and asked if I wanted to order something else and he said someone in the kitchen said "that spinach came in today." This is not something you say to a paying customer! Friday night---arrive shortly before 6 and promptly seated---when we left shortly after 7 there was a waiting list. Food was great and service was polite and helpful. But this place is loud!! Ordered spinach and artichoke dip as appetizer and it was creamy but very satisfying.---you had option of chips , bread or both for this appetizer. There is a 14 ounce ribeye and a 14 ounce Cajun ribeye for $1 more which is a little spicier---although 14 ounces is what the menu says, the portion certainly is a minimum of 14 ounces although this two portions we had contained a little fat---but no complaints here. Also on the menu as chef specials is a fried stuff shrimp plate with étouffée topping anda redfish filet with toppings---both were well accepted by our party. Each of these come with 2 sides which selections include your standard fare but there are generous portions---one interesting thing to note is that the side salad likewise wasa generous portion but its contents was not simply lettuce but instead many types of greens. Very satisfying but have to mention again that it was loud in there. Also, they are in process of modifying their menu which usually means price change soon enough. Will return. read more

I chose this place for my graduation dinner in December...couldn't have chosen a better place! Everyone loved it! It was a Friday during lunch so they had the all you can eat catfish for only $9.95. My aunt still talks about how much she enjoyed it! I had the Mason's plate which is three stuffed shrimp covered in crawfish etouffee... delicious and all lunch plates are under $10! This place is fantastic! We went on vacation to New Orleans and Baton Rouge and this was only restaurant that we ate at TWICE! The servers were very friendly and quick. The crab benedict is sooo delicious! And their 'hashbrowns' are really just thin sliced potatoes with the skin on, but you can add cheese, bacon, whatever you want- awesome! My husband tried the Cajun Shrimp Burger the following day and said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. He also loved their onion rings. The make your own bloody marys are reasonable and really, really good with lots of options to chose from. And...hello...$3.95 all you can drink champagne on Saturdays and Sunday? I have seen this before, a great little restaurant gets a great reputation then becomes a victim of its own success. I was underwhelmed from the moment I walked in with the ambivalent greeting from the hostess. While we were quickly seated we were in one of the noisiest dining rooms that I have been in. The cinder block walks bounced the sound around in to a deafening roar to where I had to lean in to talk to my table guests. The crepe was rubbery but the strawberries were fresh. The crab cakes Benedict were bland in both the seasoning of the crab cake and the sauce. Even the grits were under seasoned and copious amounts of salt & pepper had to be added. Would I return again? the first Cajun shrimp burger I got from there was delicious....HOWEVER, it has gone extremely down hill. I have had a few since then and my order is consistently wrong and the one I just got to go today was not only way undercooked but had no jalepenos in the cheese and shrimp mix like there is suppose to be. The bun was also extremely dry like it had been sitting out. I asked for no onion, no mayo or mustard and none of that was on there but the sweet potato fries tasted like onion!? This place was very good came in around 2pm, brunch is not available all day. So for lunch we had a shrimp burger w/potato salad it was amazing, my girl at the suggestion of Stephanie had half a roasted chicken w/veggies and green beans the green beans where a bit smothered in either to much butter or to much salt but since the steam veggies had no sodium just steamed it was actually really good, the chicken was nice and juicy. This restaurant was horrible I ordered a 14 ounce ribeye cooked medium well when I received it I got it medium rare which I did not order so I can politely sent it back and the waitress took it and said no problem we'll fix it but when I receive the stake again it was nothing but the same steak put back on the grill which is disgusting !it's cross-contamination! I work in a restaurant and everyone knows you're not supposed to take something off of a customers plate and put it directly back on the grill that's making so many health violations but when I sent that back the second time the owner came out and was very rude and disrespectful he said he refuses to make a steak over again and wouldn't let me order anything else off the menu he said since he can't cook the steak right he can't get anything right so he's not cooking anything else for me I had a horrible experience and I will never return! read more

There's something to be said about going to restaurant for the first time in the company of "regulars." The wait (45mins) was not shorter for us, but getting served complimentary mimosas while we waited was a nice touch that made the wait a little more bearable. There is nothing special in this restaurant by looking at the menu. In fact, the offerings are quite ordinary for the most part. The portions are not particularly big and the prices are not particularly low. What makes this place special is how things are prepared and how they are served. The crab cakes Benedict are superb. Crabby and seasoned perfectly. The poached eggs were cooked just right and the Hollandaise sauce was rich, flavorful and had a nice lemon bite to it. Their seafood au gratin is also quite good. I'll give them credit for the bottomless champagne, which is a great deal. But they are completely incompetent at dealing with the effects of it -- aka the stupidly large crowds. It's always at least an hour wait and you can expect to wait two or more hours on high demand days. There have been multiple visits where the system crashed and prevented them from putting in orders or taking payments. You'd almost have to be an alcoholic to think the difficulties that come with the bottomless champagne are worth it. read more

So happy we chose this place. The lunch menu is so great! A wide variety of dishes at great prices. I chose the Mason's Plate which is stuffed jumbo shrimp over a bed of rice and crawfish Etouffee, with lump crab meat on top. The plate also came with one side and a soup or salad...all for $10. Yes, $10! Wow! What a deal! For my soup I chose the potato soup. It was good but needed some salt. The stuffed shrimp were good but I could go without the stuffing. Next time I would rather just fried shrimp. The Etouffee was delicious! My side was steamed veggies which weren't anything special. My husband got the grilled chicken plate and chose to have it blackened. He had chicken and sausage gumbo for his soup. The gumbo was superb. The chicken was tasty as well. He also had onion rings for a side which were good but probably could've used a dash of cayenne in the batter. Our waitress was Sarah and she was a real pleasure. She was very attentive and friendly.We sat in the bar area which didn't have many people in the area which helped to make it an even more enjoyable experience. Everyone greeted us on our way in. This is my first review on Yelp. Everyone has to come here for brunch. It may take awhile for food but everything on the menu is excellent. Can be a bit loud but defiantly worth it. I recommend sitting at the bar. Multiple sports on tvs. Bartenders are super entertaining. I took me a minute but I recognized one of them immediately. He is name is Todd and I haven't seen him in years. He is a hidden jem here. I know he was bartender of the year in the French quarter when I bartender in Nola. Masons is a must in Baton Rouge. My friend and I went for their Sunday brunch. I have to say the bottomless champagne and $1 off make your own Bloody Marys are an awesome deal. We were here late on Saturday night. It wasn't very busy but ever other table had kids. And they were noisy. The food was good. My shrimp poboy could've been a little better seasoned and was a generous amount of shrimp though the huge piece of bread deceptively made the shrimp look skimpy. I was so looking forward to the onion rings. Everyone says they're great and they are gorgeous but the batter was hard and flavorless and the onion itself was bland. I was bummed. Spouse got chicken and waffles. It was slamming good. The waffle was phenomenal, the caramel syrup was insanely delicious and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. As you can see in the picture though it was unfortunately overcooked. I am surprised they sent it out looking the way it did. It was dry too. I would definitely try it again though, hopefully get it right when it's not so late. The wait service was a little slow. Empty waters, at one point he came to get my empty vodka glass and silently just picked it up and walked away, didn't speak, didn't ask if we were ok, didn't even ask if I wanted another. Additionally the restaurant felt dirty and dingy. The tables sticky. I have had awesome experiences here before so hopefully this was just because it was late (almost 9). Maybe the oil was old from all day use and they had been letting it cool. Maybe the waiter was tired. Idk, but I was a little disappointed. Oh and the boudin balls were fantastic. Loved the sauce and the flavor they they fell apart in the hands. I understand a little crumble but these did not hold their shape for ease of eating. It demanded a fork.. Masons isn't just a restaurant it's a staple of all that is good in this world. I've never had a bad meal and love going for wing night. Everything I've had is great from the breakfast to the burgers to the sandwiches to the bloody marys to the honey mustard. It would get 4.5 stars if I could but I will take a half star away for the parking situation and the crowded high top bar seating area. I know that's picky but overall this place is one of my favorites. I am not opposed to a new location but I understand them not changing what works. read more

My effort to be fair in my rating, I think, earns an A. The food is good no doubt above average but there really isn't anything special done here. I certainly wouldn't drive to BR just to eat brunch here. I was simply driving through BR on my way to Shreveport and a friend requested my presence for brunch. I obliged because I love new brunch spots. Just three stars. I become leery when a restaurant presents a menu with a large and wide array of items. Another Baton Rouge success story. All the fuss is true. This was our second visit. We have been in the past for a nice and quiet brunch that blew us away. So this round we wanted to know about the hype of evening atmosphere and awesome steak. It was one of the best charbroiled steaks ever. I mean perfect medium perfection.
