There was a constant stream of people picking up their orders which was a good sign. And we were not disappointed. The food: The pizza: A large all the way. The crust, the crust, the crust!!! It was crisp on the outside, yet fluffy on the inside, you could taste the yeast used to make it. Easily the best crust I've had in a while for my taste. The sauce was unremarkable... probably because we had already eaten the breadsticks... the vegetables were fresh and there were plenty without overwhelming the pie, the sausage was terrific, and the pepperoni was cupped. The cheese! I love a cheesy pizza, and this hit the mark! You had to cut the string when you picked up your slice. All in all, a well balanced pie which hit all the right notes. The Cheesy Breadsticks: soft, buttery, with a hint of garlic, smothered in cheese. (We may have had a personal moment with them.) Served with a ragu that was simple, yet with a garlic undertone that was well balanced. Terrific! Summary: The staff is friendly. The food is five stars for a small town pie. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. One issue is the seating area. It is clean. But, it needs some TLC applied to it. There are plaques on the wall for best pizza from the early 2000's. My guess is that the paint on the wall beneath them was in place when they were hung. As the walls and carpeting are well worn. A thousand dollars in paint and carpeting would really help. Our initial thought was if this is how the dining room looks, what is the kitchen like? The saving grace was we could see into it and could see that it was old but clean too. 5 stars for the food. Ding 1 star for the ambiance. We will be back!

This place use to be a gamble but since the new ownership happened a few years ago it is top notch! The thin crust pizza is just like the pizza from the original location in Whitehall and the topping are ample. The subs are awesome too especially the Italian sub. The restaurant just doesn't seem to have recovered since COVID. They no longer offer dine-in service, and all of the tables have been pushed in front of the prep area, so customers can no longer watch the pizzas being made--a feature that used to add to the experience. The condition of the restaurant was concerning. The ceiling tiles were stained and discolored, several were out of place leaving openings to the floor above, and there appeared to be visible mold on ceiling tiles and around the vent above the pizza ovens and prep area. Given the location, it raised concerns for me about sanitation and food safety. The drink cooler was completely empty. When we asked, we were simply told they were out of beverages. We ended up buying drinks from the business next door, where they mentioned that Plaza Pizza customers regularly come there because the pizza shop doesn't have beverages available. The pizza itself wasn't what we remembered. The signature cracker crust that made Plaza Pizza special is gone. It lacked the crisp, fresh texture it once had and instead tasted stale. The bottoms of both pizzas were also dotted with black debris from the oven deck -- the oven decks have been cleaned between pizzas which should be a standard operating procedure. The restaurant was extremely hot inside, and I noticed ingredients such as sauce being kept in containers on the counter rather than in a refrigerated prep table. Having spent many years working in food service, those observations prompted me to review recent Licking County health inspection reports. I found multiple repeat violations that had reportedly remained uncorrected, which made the issues I observed even more concerning. This restaurant used to be one of our favorite stops, and it's disappointing to see how far it has declined. I genuinely hope the owners invest in cleaning, maintenance, and stronger food safety practices because Plaza Pizza was once a local gem. Until then, we'll be taking our business elsewhere.
