My wife and I shared the arugula salad (hard to tell if there was any actual arugula) and an America (Pepperoni) pizza. The salad was good if you're looking for a fennel salad and the pizza could not have been more tasty. The wine was good too. They do a nice job of having their wine on display with labels (brief description) and prices at the host stand. We bought some wine while we waited for a table. Tried Masullo for the first time. I ordered the Elisa and the American plus sausage. The pizza sauce was superb. I enjoyed the high quality pizza ingredients, especially on the Elisa. Unfortunately that pizza barely had any toppings at all. Two slices didn't have any topping beyond the sauce. When you look at the pics of the pizzas posted to Yelp you see picture perect pizzas. But the reality is the pizza crust is more of a crispy flatbread that is cracker thin. So between the cracker thin crust and sparse pizza ingredients, this place is kind of a letdown. The toppings of mushrooms and omg cheesy goodness will leave you calling your friends in Italy, and telling them to catch the next flight over. Not all pizzas are the same. Neapolitan pizza cooked in a traditional wood fired oven. Slightly chewy crust and the best tomato sauce around, such a simple and clean taste. A simple non-overwhelming menu, just enough for your enjoyment. Not one of those greasy heavily topped pizza places, just simplicity at its best. I'm not a big fan of salads but I almost always get one here. The salads are plentiful and great blend of mostly local fruits and veggies. Most salads come with their lattice bread, lightly salted and crisp. Try the house made ginger ale for a nice refreshing drink, there is also beer and wine available. Some of the most impressive service in Sacramento...at a pizza restaurant...right. Whether the owner (Robert) is there or not, the service has always been exquisite. Very family friendly with a baby changing pad in one of the restrooms fully stocked with wet wipes. Occasionally the kids would be able to throw a piece of wood into the oven. read more

This place is a regular stop when we get to Sac. I love all the pizzas, but I normally get the one with bacon, potatoes and cheese. One of new fav pizza joints! Bc of COVID, we dined in the patio area which had very limited seating ( as it should). Ambiance was nice and chill. Jennifer, who was our waitress, was very nice and patient with our toddler. Pizza had a nice thin crust, kind of makes me feel like I was eating in Italy ( even though Ive never been there, haha). We also ordered the spinach and burrata which was a soft cheese that had a mild salty taste and made me think of if mozarella and rocatta cheese had a baby--it was good paired with their rosemary bread. The service was excellent and the food was so so fresh and flavorful. Very happy with the roasted sweet peppers, the aioli (I can tell they used good olive oil for the aioli), and the Mustapha pizza. Jaqueline & Mustapha, the perfect love story... It's almost like the karmic food world was in order last night. I love trying new places, no matter the star rating. Reading through the menu for the first time is always slightly exhilarating...I know, I need to get out more often ;) Parking is slightly weird. You pull up and want to park in front, but there is outdoor seating right in front of your car, I felt like I'd get the stank eye from customers if I intruded on them. You walk in and its super small, but not in a bad way. Quaint and comfy. There are picnic style tables and benches made out of wood, with a clear gloss finish - kinda weird in my opinion. We were sitting so close to the group next to us, we all looked like we were in the same party. The wall is lined with tables for two, for the length of the restaurant. THE FOOD! It. Is. Great. East Sac priced, but with 1/2 off bottle wine Thursday nights & a Entertainment Book coupon, we basically ate for free (slight exaggeration)! We got the party started with the Rosemary Bread and of course we got the dipping oil for extra calories. This bread was perfectly toasted with the right amount of herbs. Add a huge bowl of oil with herbs, it was heavenly. The kale salad was as good as it comes. Light dressing and with the crunch of nuts, it was a great blend. Oh the marriage of the Jaqueline & the Mustapha was a heavenly pair. First came the Jaq, adorned with delicately sliced potatoes, with perfectly cooked bacon bits on top. The Fontina was not overbearing, but a great blend to the already delicious party in my mouth. Next came the Mustapha, I was feeling adventurous so I partook even though it had Prosciutto di Parma. It was crazy thin sliced, so it wasn't overly salty for me. The fresh arugula added was great, I almost felt healthy eating this pizza. The '09 primitivo was pretty delish, being the non-wine-snob I don't have much reference, but I liked what I tasted. I don't understand why this place wasn't more crowded for such a baller-on-a-budget deal?? Your loss, my gain! The ice cream sandwich that everyone keeps raving about is on point. True to its yelp glory, it is pretty amazing...the best last taste in my mouth I could ask for. Vanilla bean ice cream smashed between two oatmeal, currant cookies...rolled in almonds. Almost a foodgasm, not quite tho...I'm not generally a fan of currants, but they were bearable in this desert. For how heavy it sounds, it was the complete opposite. The service was great. She was very attentive and was cheery, couldn't ask for much more, right?!? Raise your hand if you like pizza. If you're hand is up, you've got to try Masullo Pizza in Sacramento. The stuff is just good! I had not heard of Masullo before, but a friend recommended it to me and said it was a 'must try'. I was really glad to be able to finally come here for lunch today - and I was impressed. Masullo offers up high quality pizza - and high quality everything else. We started off our meal with a couple spritzers to drink as well as some bread and olive oil. I had the ginger ale spritzer. I wasn't expecting much more than a standard ginger ale... but this was definitely not what you get out of a can. The ginger ale spritzer had a real depth of ginger taste to it that I really enjoyed. It reminded me of a higher quality handcrafted ginger ale available at specialty stores. And the bread... awesome! My friend says you can tell a lot about a restaurant by their bread and oil. Well, I guess Masullo is REAL GOOD then, cuz it their bread and olive oil was amazing. The bread was soft on the inside with a nice crunchy crust. And the olive oil was aromatic and complex. I should actually say that both olive oils provided were great as Musullo provides both a spicy and standard version. The pizzas came next. The pizza at Masullo comes on a very thin crust. It is very easy to eat slice after slice. The toppings used are of the highest and tastiest quality. I tried their mushroom, zucchini, prosciutto, and sausage pizza. Each slice was perfectly made with the very thin bottom crust giving way to a thicker end that is perfect for dipping in the olive oil. On top of the great food was also excellent service and a hip, modern atmosphere. Coming to Masullo is a coming to a great dining experience. I am eagerly awaiting my next trip out. I have got to try their other pizza varieties and I hear their desserts are on par with the rest of the excellence as well. Went for the first time last week. Excellent service and ambiance was very nice. Got the antipasto, salads, pizza and pasta. The only criticism I have is the center of the pizza was soggy. I can't believe I have never written a review about Masullo. It is my favorite thin crust pizza place in Sacramento. I went to Italy many years ago, and the pizza here is the closest to authentic Italian pizza that I have experienced in the USA. I have tasted several pizzas, and they have all been delicious. All of the ingredients are fresh and the flavoring is simple and perfect. On my most recent visit, I tried their pasta of the day. It contained penne pasta, beef, carrots, and other ingredients I can't remember. Also, I had the chocolate pot de creme. Everything, as usual was delicious. read more

A good solid 3.5 stars which I rounded up to 4! My 8 year old and I came for the first time on a Friday night about 6:15pm and there was no seating. (That means the place is really good, right?) We waited about 5-10 minutes and we were seated at a 2 person table along the wall. We ordered an American Pizza (pepperoni and cheese) and the Eileen (which another reviewer described it as carbonara, but not heavy on the cream). The toppings were on the "not enough" side, but ok. Man, the bacon was tasty. The wood-fired flavor and the dough were excellent. Not heavy. Each pizza was about 12' in size and had 8 pieces. I ate a full 6 slices and was full and my 8 year old at all 8 pieces with no end crust. (His loss!) When you say thin crust, this is the thinnest I've had. So thin that it really couldn't hold up to the amount of cheese and little toppings it had on there. No matter, I know the fold over method! :D Good fresh flavors and I will come back to try other pizzas. They had a good selection of pizzas with tomato sauce and ones with no tomato sauce so that was a plus. Their daily pasta special for tonight sounded too plain for me...spaghetti noodles with red sauce. Since it was our first time here, the waiter had to tell me to add some chili oil to the pizza if I wanted it spicy. I gave it a shot, but it didn't go together for me. We weren't able to fit any dessert in this time, but we'll try the ice cream sandwich as other say it's tasty. I wish we were seated at the bench tables as it had more room. (Ask for that if you are able). With 2 pizza pans, 2 plates, two water glasses, 1 jug of water for refills, chili oil, parmesan cheese shaker, napkin, forks and knives, and some other things on the table that we didn't use, space was a hot commodity. The had an online coupon, buy one pizza get one half off, but it's only valid Mon-Thu and today was Friday. Darn. Remember about that next time you go! I just Googled "Masullo Coupon" and found it. Oh, parking. There were about 6 spots directly in front of the building which were all taken. I wasn't sure if you could park in the parking lot of the business next door so I ended up parking on the side street to the East of the building. It's just an eery feeling that it's right across the street from the cemetery. When we left, our clothes smelled a little of the food. (No we didn't wipe our mouths with our sleeves.) This review of long overdue. This is an easy place to miss if you're not looking closely. Situated on the side of a busy road with a few parking spots, this is a pizza gem in Sacramento. Although the ingredients on the pizza are few, the quality of those ingredients and the craft of making the pizza is superb. The meatball is also deliciously soft and moist, but kind of pricey at $5 a pop. The pizza crust is delicious tasting, so good that this is the kind that makes you want to eat the crust first...it's that good. I never hesitate to recommend Masullo to anyone who enjoys pizza. read more
