Some friends have been raving about Pieces Pizzas by the Slice for months, so when we were out late one night, they finally decided to take us here for a slice--and I was SO excited because I'd been craving pizza for weeks. Walking in, the inside is simple and basic but it didn't matter too much because what mattered most was their pizza slices! This spot is cash only, and it's located on a busy street surrounded by bars, making it the perfect stop after a night of bar hopping. There were four of us, and we each ordered one slice: pesto, cheese, pepperoni, and broccoli & pepperoni. I can confidently say that from the very first bite, my pizza cravings were more than satisfied. I went with the classic cheese slice, and it did not disappoint. The dough was soft but not too soft, the cheese was perfectly balanced with a nice cheese pull in every bite, and my absolute favorite part was the crust. It's basically stuffed from how the crust is formed and being part of the main part of the pizza! I usually don't eat pizza crust, but this one actually had me eat my entire slice from my first bite of the main part of the pizza to the last bite from the crust. Our friends come here so often that the workers actually recognize them now--so my husband and I will probably be doing the same since we live in the area! One of the workers, Shea, was the one who helped us out with getting our pizza orders in. He made sure that our pizzas were cooked to perfection. He's AWESOME! Can't wait to come back for another late-night slice and try even more of their delicious-looking options!

I was on a mission to find the best pizza by the slice on the grid. This was my fourth stop. I had no idea this place existed, but it feels like a good location to capture the nightlife crowd. The slice was on the expensive side and was cash only. The guy working was very friendly and added fresh garlic to my cheese slice, which I loved. It was an extremely cheesy slice, but the cheese lacked that real full-fat mozzarella flavor that I prefer. The sauce was bland and needed more seasoning. The bottom was heavily charred and crispy, which I liked. The crust was stuffed, which was a fun surprise. The inside was clean, and it gave me a real New York slice experience I haven't had in Sacramento since being in New York. Overall, I probably wouldn't return unless I was drunk on a night out with cash on hand, but it was not a bad slice.

Bomb pizza and great service! Owner and employees very friendly and happy. Ty for a great experience - even if it was just talking while my slice cooked. Good stuff

Here they do not take Apple Pay. You do have to use cash. I ended up going out of town to a more expensive area and had pizza that was far better for less of a price. The pizza here gave me acid reflux. It's super greasy and it's not greasy in a good way. I wanted to give this place a good review because I have been dying to try it and I was really wanting to do a great review for the place I'm all about trying to show love for Ca-Sacramento and anything that is in our little small areas living downtown. I never caught this place when it was open. I would say that the service was mid. The gentleman was upset because my husband didn't have cash on him so the attitude changed some however, when my husband ordered my piece of slice, there was one that I had told him to go ahead and get however I came inside after waiting for him to go across the street to use ATM, we don't partner with so we had to pay a fee on both sides and I saw a different slice, and I wanted to get that the guy had kind of an attitude about it and it just made you feel uncomfortable. I myself will not come back here. The price alone with the quality of the Pizza is just not there for me and I have ate out a lot of pizza places, but compared this one to Pizza my heart out by Santa Cruz. I just cannot fathom the idea of the price and the quality. I am really saddened to give this review. It actually took me a long time to do this review because I was going back-and-forth and did not want to give it but I just have to be honest. They do have parking inside and outside.

Best place to get a slice on the late night. Pesto bread sticks are so good. They have the best crust if you know you know.

Ever crave a few different kinds of pizza but hate being stuck ordering a whole pie of just one? Pizza by the slice is the answer--and this place nails it! The pizza is delicious, with dough that has just the right amount of bounce. You can really tell they care about quality. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and they even have a dog as a mascot--how awesome is that? A few quick tips: * Bring cash--they don't take cards. * The price per slice is on the higher side, which is the only downside. * It can be a little tricky to find, so they could really use a better sign. * It's a bit of a walk from the main bar scene, but absolutely worth it for a late-night bite. All in all, a great spot for variety, flavor, and charm!

While visiting Sacramento, I decided to stop by Pieces for lunch. The location was a bit hard to find if not for Google Maps, since the outdoor sign wasn't very obvious when driving by. There wasn't much of a lunch rush around noon on a weekday, so I was able to get my pizza slice shortly. I wasn't able to find the menu, but I ended up getting the pepperoni and sausage slice. The pizza was decent; however, the price per slice was quite expensive compared to other pizza joints. Pros: Friendly staff. Fast service. Cons: Pricey. May be a bit hard to find in person, so pull up your favorite map app.

I have been coming here for years, though sporadically. It's one of my fav downtown sac staples with it's unique, homey vibe. the pizza is always bomb, super flavorful. the crust is always perfectly crispy, not too thick, and not too thin. the guy helping us was super chill and nice; and even gave my daughter a free apple juice. the best pizza hole in the wall spot. though, i do wish their prices were up and that they took card or venmo.

Well, I can't believe I'm reviewing this place. Based on how it looks on the outside, I never bothered to venture in. However, I was very hungry today and was looking for something quick. OK so this place took me by a complete surprise. When I received my slice, I almost dropped it because it was so danggone heavy. At the first bite, I knew it was a higher quality than I prejudged. The sauce was also so garlicky and delicious one slice definitely could satisfy two people, but I happily enjoyed it on my own. For $10, this is a pretty good deal!

The cheese pizza here is great; it's topped with dollops of ricotta and ribbons of fresh basil. They have a daily special: the Dino slice, which I'll often get as well. Sometimes the toppings are fun (e.g. pickles) and other times more run-of-the-mill (e.g. salami, bell peppers, etc) but I've never been disappointed even when I thought the flavors would be odd. They used to be pretty good about posting on Instagram what was on the Dino slice was, but I don't see it quite as often these days. If you're into saucing up your pizza, you can get ranch or hot honey or Dino sauce. It's been a while since I had the Dino sauce, but I recall it being tangy and cilantro-y with a bit of a spice kick. It sounds a bit different/odd, but I like getting it from time to time. The Dino eggs, from my recollection, are basically pizza dough balls. Mostly bread, which is fine since their bread/pizza crust is great, but I'd rather just stick to the pizza, so I only tried these once. The fries are good. Though, I probably wouldn't order them alongside the pizza unless you're looking for a carb bomb of a meal (which is what I had done the one time I ordered them). They're probably best if you're just looking for a snack to go with your beer & aren't planning on eating a whole bunch of pizza. They're quite good though. Nice and crispy. And it's a pretty big serving size. They have a dozen or so taps of various beers. Some local, some not. And they have a selection of cans and bottles as well. There isn't a ton of inside seating. A half dozen or so tables? And a few bar seats. There's probably more total seats in front and in the outside side patio. There's only street parking & there's lots of small shops nearby, so you might have to take a short walk from your car to get there.

The Seasonal Summer Pesto was also refreshing and delicious. The corn really made this as did the pesto. The Pepperoni square was actually our least favorite. Needed more sauce and cheese. There was SO MUCH pepperoni so get this if that's your thing. The crust and the bread on all of these pizzas was the star. That sourdough really comes through and each crust was slightly crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Really impressive. There are a few tables inside but we sat outside as it was nice out there. Service was very fast and friendly! Street parking was easy. It's metered on one side and 2 hours free on the other.

The wait couldn't have been longer than two minutes as we were seated inside fairly quickly. My friend recommended the Bocce Balls, and I wanted to go for something on the menu that was marked as a Paesanos's favorite - I choose the Spaghetti Carbonara. I also asked our waiter if he could put my order on a separate tab up front just so it's easier if he needs to make note of the certain items that needed to be put on a separate tab. The bocce balls came out and there were six of them on a platter. I was surprised because I was expecting them to be soft almost like a garlic knot, but they were a little bit more firm, almost like a fried mac n cheese ball (but with dough inside). This was definitely something that we needed to use a knife to cut with and eat. They tasted buttery and garlicky - you really can't go wrong with bread, butter and garlic. It was fantastic. Then my spaghetti carbonara came out about twenty minutes later. This one was also delicious! It was creamy, cheesy, and had chunks of bacon that worked well with the creaminess of the dish. The serving was also huge - I think I only ate about a fourth of it. It came with a side of bread which I took a bite of and thought it tasted a lot like the bocce balls (flavor wise). My bill's subtotal ended up being $26 ($19 for the carbonara, and $7 for the bocce balls). It was nice that our waiter remembered I wanted a separate check. He said he wasn't sure how whose tab to put the bocce balls on so he just split it in half. I found that to be really considerate! I always try to do what I can to make it easier on the wait staff so I would have happily taken the whole charge, but it was nice to see that he was able to split one dish by two checks. Overall, we ended up spending about 2 hours in the restaurant. I went with friends who I haven't seen in years, so we spent plenty of time catching up. At no point did I feel rushed to leave. It was as night filled with great food, great service, and great company. I'm looking forward to coming back here when I'm in town!
