So I've been to the Rockville location of Matchbox before and I really wanted to like that one...but didn't. That may explain my low expectations for this outing but I have to admit I was surprised. Granted, I was there early for lunch (1130) but the greeting was pleasant and I was quickly seated. I think the wait staff are still trying to figure out stations so I'll give them a pass for the wait before my waiter showed up. That said, he was engaging and pleasant and had a good handle on the menu. I went with the filet mignon because I was intrigued by "the secret" butter (shhh...on the old menu they called it "herb butter"). The steak was cooked perfectly to my order and the grilled asparagus was equally lovely. I was in and out of there in about 35 minutes so that's a definite plus for those considering it as a work lunch locale. I'll most likely go back and see how their salmon is but for now I'd definitely categorize this place as a safe bet for lunch. read more

I feel like I got robbed last night. I got there at around 8:15pm, and ordered a bottomless mimosa. I was only there 45 minutes, only had one bottle of champagne, yet I still got charged two bottomless mimosas totalling $50. I asked if I could just be charged for the one bottle. They said no. I understand what I ordered, but I do think I was overcharged for it given the fact that I didn't even get to sit there long enough to enjoy it all. The food was good though and so was the service overall. I just think a bit more understanding would've been nice. read more

The staff is very welcoming. There is a large selection of food at brunch - a brunch menu as well as their regular menu. The food was very good - large portions. I took half of my pancakes home. Coffee comes in mugs and then pots of coffee are brought to the table. I think the prices are reasonable for brunch in downtown Silver Spring. read more

I've eaten hear several times for lunch. There's a good menu selection and everything I've tried has been wonderful. This last time I had the BBQ Salmon salad and it was really amazing - perfectly cooked salmon and very tasty. The outdoor seating is nice especially because it's situated on a closed, pedestrian-only street so it's a great way to people watch. Sometimes the lunch service is a bit slow but overall that's not a bad thing. I will continue to eat here when the opportunity presents itself. read more

Very nice experience going In for carry out even with pandemic concerns. Ordered from the bar. Bartender masked and freshly gloved made me feel comfortable and at ease. Located in downtown silver spring with plenty of happy hours to choose from. So, hop around if you want. I Enjoyed this establishment during happy hour from 3pm-6pm. They have a BOP so I recommend the margarita pizza on the happy hour menu. There is so much more to enjoy on the menu. The happy hour drinks were interesting and full of flavor not too strong but you can taste the alcohol. Very nice place with indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant. Great tasting pizza but was surprised to be brought and then billed for bottled water when we requested tap water. This was quite unfortunate because the pizza itself was very good - I split a chicken pesto pizza with a friend and was very satisfied. However not only did we not ask for bottled water but it turned out to be very expensive (I think $7 or $8 for a big bottle) so this felt like a bit of a ripoff. I'm not someone to make a scene over a few dollars but doubt I'll be going back here even though the pizza was quite good. read more

I've had some hits and some misses here. The good news is the food and the drinks usually hit. The only think I've ever regretted getting was the fig and prosciutto pizza, which was surprising. It seems to be highly recommended, so I expected more. My wife adores their apple and pear salad and I've been happy with my food selections. Shus. We also had a side of grits....baybee! Yes. And yes again. I loved getting a full breakfast of goodness for less than $20. If you drink alcohol, order the Bottomless Mimosa ($25). This is not a request, but a command. Here's how it works * You will receive a bottle of Wycliff Brut champagne to drink at your leisure. The champagne alone is a good crisp quality. When it runs low, they bring you another bottle of wine. When that runs low...you get the gist. * In small decanters they provide you your juice of choice. I asked for peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and cranberry juice individually. The peach juice....thats the one. First place prize. If you are a grapefruit drinker, you will love their ruby red juice. John was our waiter and we tipped him handsomely. He never rushed us, was attentive to our needs, and was so amiable. Side Note: We were there for 3 hours. I have no idea how that happened. OMG - the service was insanely slow. We sat by ourselves without water for about 15 minutes and every interaction was just as slow. We had actually been here a week before (and my pizza sucked so bad I will never get another there) and our waiter from the previous week served the table next to us two or three times as fast as ours for every transaction. Stopped in for a quick bite with one of my good friends and we weren't disappointed. The restaurant is centrally located if you're in downtown silver spring with indoor and outdoor seating (when the weather permits). We were there on a Saturday evening and there was plenty of space for us to sit wherever we wanted. Key things I appreciated about Matchbox: - great location if you're in the downtown silver spring area - ample seating - very chill bartender (I think his name was Sam) - quick delivery of food - FRIES WERE SO GOOD! (Fries are my weakness so excuse while I dote on these a bit.) - my friend loved her meal as well and it was enough for her to take home and have for lunch the next day. - portions were generous - solid options for vegetarians and pescatarians - they have a cauliflower crust pizza (very progressive) and beyond sausage pizza (very hipster Ish). My first time visiting Matchbox was yesterday on a Friday evening. We arrived at 5:45p to grab a bite to eat and drinks before our 7p movie. Upon arrival the establishment was not packed at all. Plenty of open seating. We found a high top table in the bar area. Upon sitting down, our bartender quickly greeted us and gave us glasses of water and disappeared. LITERALLY. We sat for 15 minutes and no one ever came back to take our orders. We noticed a hostess walking by (Employees in red shirts) and we informed her of our issue. She quickly apologized and said she would get someone to come over. No one came. We are looking around and while the tables at the restaurant is getting more patrons, the bar was still pretty manageable. (still unoccupied seats) We notice that out of the three bartenders working, only one bartender was taking table orders in the bar area. The other two bartenders never left and spent more time watching the mounted television than watching the bar seating area (you know, to maybe see our hands raised signaling we needed assistance). We finally catch a table-area waitress walking by (employee in black shirt) and asked her if she would please take our order. She tells us that the bartenders are responsible for the bar area but she would take our orders for us. She takes our order and we watch her go over to the bar, speak to the bartender and place or order. Finally we receive our drinks. Maybe things will get better we thought. Wrong! After another 25 minutes, we notice that a couple who came in after us, not only received their meals, they were cashing out! We STILL at that point did not receive our food. We found another table-area waitress, tell her our issue, and finally our food comes out. We not have about 10 min to eat. Although the food looks good from the pic, they were cold. The beef sliders were cold and the spinach dip was luke warm. Because we were starving, we ate what we could. Upon cashing out we informed the bartender of everything that transpired and, to be honest, he could have cared less of our experience. Not an apology, nor even a simple care of concern. I would not recommend anyone to visit here. It was the worst experience. Quite honestly, we could have went to the concession stand at the movies and had better service and a meal. read more

This is just for HH. The Happy hour menu is great and I plan on coming back often. I have been planning on going since they opened. This use to be a chicken restaurant that failed and for good reason. I hope Matchbox sticks around for some time. The atmosphere was nice and the food was good. I really like the fact that you can do HH anywhere in the restaurant. I hate establishments that don't allow HH throughout because it pigeon holes people who may not like to eat at the bar. I ordered the Matchbox pizza, two types of wings, and the calamari. I just picked off the calamari because it was mainly tentacles and I like the rings. The jelly sauce was unique and noteworthy. I may have to try it again. The wings were good. The pizza was the best item. I only tried one slice, but I can tell you this...I won't always be on Keto and I could have easily killed that whole baby pizza. Their mixed drinks were a lackluster, boring, and would only get a C+ at best. Their wine selections were better but more expensive. The desserts were delicious and easily serve two people. My friends and I came here for our last day before everyone flew back home states and we all had a time here. We ordered bottomless mimosa, and I got the hangover burrito. The burrito was delicious, and I loved their rice and black beans; they were very seasoned, and I usually would not be able to finish it in one sit, but I cleaned the plate and was not full afterward, weirdly. I also ordered the honey biscuits from Milk + Honey, which were so divine. The waiter we had was fantastic at serving us, and he put on a magic show for us which made the experience much more fun.
