Pretty easy, breezy brunch that hit the spot. First, I have stay that I really loved the layout of Matchbox; the restaurant is quite nice with a huge bar. Although our service got off to a slow start, our bartender was great and really took care of us. I think the slow start happened because we arrived a few minutes after the restaurant opened, and our bartender/server probably had to finish up her prep to get into the groove of things. For my brunch meal, I went with a standard breakfast of eggs, sausage, potatoes and French toast. Everything was pretty delicious, and Matchbox definitely will go on the list for future visits. Oh, Matchbox has an "unlimited" mimosa and Bloody Mary deal where it's $22 plus $1 for each refill. Our sever was Nahom, and he was wonderful. He helped prepare the birthday cake reveal and organized the employee singalong. He was very attentive to our large party of 12. Came here for an early weekday dinner with a friend who was staying nearby. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, and we got a comfortable booth inside. Waitress was super friendly, but the food was mediocre. The crab dip to start was pretty good. While my white pizza wasn't bad, it wasn't great- fairly dry. My friend's crab cake sandwich was also fine. However, the waitress made sure our drinks were full and was very enthusiastic, and had no issues splitting our check. The only downside to this experience was the traffic to get there. The parking was a snap in the Wayne St Garage with a very short walk to the restaurant. The food was excellent. The chicken and waffles was one of the best I've ever had. I tasted the shrimp and grits and that was surprisingly flavorful with just the right amount of southern kick. Chef Claudia has made a fan out of me and her chicken and waffles. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star review was because of the service. My wife and I went here on a Sunday for brunch. We both ordered the bottoms up which allows you to mix and match espresso martinis, mimosas, lemon drops, old fashions, and bloody mary's. This is a great deal, however I do not feel like we were able to get the most out of it due to our waiter being pretty busy and not able to come and give us refills as much as we wanted. Our waiter was the only person waiting on a specific section and there was also a huge party of about 12 people, so we did not see her as much as we liked. My wife ordered the catfish & grits and I ordered the seafood scramble. My wife's fish was amazing, it was light and very crispy. The fish was also huge! My seafood scramble was absolutely delicious and very flavorful. It was very filling! Overall the food was really good and the bottoms up was a great deal, but there were plenty of times where we were waiting for our waiter for a refill on our drinks. Worst brunch and dining experience I've had in the last 5 years across anywhere in the DMV. Our server, Miriam, was inattentive, distracted, seldomly checked on us during our entire brunch visit, and a huge let down. 3 of our guests didn't get their food or drinks for about an hour. Our server disappears for 30 minutes and only comes back after a hostess goes looking for her and is shocked food and drinks didn't come out. Checking in on your table and not disappearing for 30 mins would have been helpful. She returns from eating food as she's clearly still chewing food. She then claims that brunch time is busy and some tickets may have gotten lost. Yes, but brunch time is expected to be busy and you should check in on your table to make sure everyone has their meals and drink. Every table around us got their food and drinks quickly. Not an excuse to blame a brunch time rush, especially since the restaurant started clearing out. One of our guests had a baby who asked for a high chair at the reservation, when they arrived, and also asked the server after they ordered food. Never came out. Do not recommend this spot or the service. May reach out to my credit card company and file a service claim for the poor service. read more

Okay so the vibes are 100% the DJ is lit . The food is decent they are BIG portions so you will get full quick. Their "syrup " is like oily so it was not good. We came in for Father's Day. The waitress gave us the brunch menu which cost 42.00 instead of explaining there was an option. It wasn't until I asked the waitress and she still wasn't clear. It was amazing and may just be the best salad I have ever had. The chicken was well seasoned and not overcooked and the mango vinaigrette was delicious. My friend got the Garden Veggie Pizza and said it was good after she added salt. Service was slow. One of my friends who arrived early and got us a table had to ask for a menu before anyone came to check on her. It also took awhile before our food came out. Also, our server didn't stop by to check on us often. The Wayne Ave Garage is directly across from Matchbox and parking is free on the weekend. Had an amazing time here:) Super kind waiter and fast service. Very pleased! Went with a group of seven. We just decided to split two pizzas and the mini sliders. Total + tip came to about $70! Not bad at all:) Pizzas had pretty thin crusts but we're still very tasty! Got the meat pizza and margherita. Yummy standard thin crust pizzas. The Matchbox Meat pizza had a good amount of meat. Only vividly remember the pepperoni slices though, probably could've used a little bit more meat for it to be rlly distinguishable as a "meat lovers". Ewe, this is not a brunch spot unless you want cafeteria style food. I arrived at 1pm excited to find brunch food. I ordered the cranberry mimosa. I was excited to try something new. Unfortunately, it was made with cheap champagne which makes sense since an unlimited option is available. It didn't taste great but the portion was nice. Needless to say, I came home and went straight to sleep. I ordered scrambled eggs. They arrived plentiful and unseasoned and probably straight out of a box. The bacon was cooked perfectly and not too fatty. The French toast was disgusting. No flavor nothing special just school lunch tasting French toast. And potatoes were huge while potatoes. They had seasoning but I was irritated by the whole potatoes on my plate. I'm unsure why they weren't sliced and diced. This review is for the Milk & Honey Pop up via Matchbox Silver Spring. I've never dined in but used to order delivery from the location in College Park rather frequently. I was in the mood for their Jumbo Smothered Chicken & Biscuits that features deep fried chicken served over jumbo biscuits with scrambled cheesy eggs covered in Cajun cream sauce. From what I remember, the portions seemed much bigger that what I received today although it was still just as delicious. The prices are on the higher side ($20+ for an entree) and I used to justify those prices with the extremely large portions. For me to order again, I'll have to have a major hankering to feel comfortable paying these prices because there was nothing JUMBO about my meal today. read more

My self and my husband each ordered a Long Island Iced Tea, and do you know that they charged us for each ingredient. Yes, each ingredient and we did not order top shelf. Making a drink that normally cost around $11, to a whopping $21.50. They charged us $13.50 for Tito's vodka, $3 for Long Island Passion fruit mix and $5 for Long Island Iced Tea mix. Anyone who drinks knows that Long Island Ice Teas have multiple liquor in it. When I saw this extra charge and spoke to the manager about the extra fee's he became nasty and totally unprofessional. I hope that the business see's this entry, I am truly upset and feel that if you are going to charge anyone extra for each ingredient then they should be told and not surprised. Mind you I only drink Long Island Iced Teas and never seen anything as such. If you are going out for drinks don't visit this place, as you too will be surprised with hidden fees. read more

I had a pretty good experience at Matchbox. This is an All-American restaurant with traditional All-American dishes. It also is a good option for Happy Hour drinks or simply to lounge leisurely for drinks. I dined with a group of friends and we shared many of the food items. Our waiter was very courteous and friendly and full-disclosure, the kitchen seemed to be short-staffed however our waiter was transparent in giving us realistic expectations as it pertains to timelines for receiving our food. He even made some food recommendations which I appreciate. On to the food and drinks. I ordered the following: - Build Your Own Burger w/ Pretzel Bun - Calamari - Milk & Honey - Strawberry Rosé Margarita - Chicken Wings All of the food was good except for the Milk & Honey biscuits. I got canned biscuit vibes after giving it a couple bites. The pretzel burger was the highlight. I ordered it medium cooked with a fried egg and bacon. The calamari was fresh, had an airy and light-fried breading and the squid itself was tender. The mixed drinks were what I expect of mixed drinks. One thing I recommend not doing is agreeing to sit in the seating in close proximity to the brick oven where the pizza is baked. Essentially near the kitchen. The heat emanating from the oven was noticeable immediately upon approaching our table. It wasn't so bad that it was intolerable however take this into consideration if it is something that might make you uncomfortable. Otherwise it was a very good experience. Next time I'll try their brick oven pizzas. Give them a shot. read more

The arancini was ok-I asked ahead because I'm picky and was told it had the center of melty cheese but it did not-and that's ok if that's what you want. In this case, it was the cheese through-out, so probably my question was just answered wrong. The butternut squash salad was ok-the dressing was great, and the squash was really good, I guess it's the name of "squash salad" I thought it would be mostly squash with some other things. It was a salad with squash sprinkled on top. I'm just picky with menus and details. This location was fine for the first several months when it opened in Silver Spring. Now it is just terrible. I see that it went from being locally owned to bought by Thompson Hospitality. Obviously a typical Blackrock type of situation where they care about profits only and are cutting corners. Terribly overpriced. I am comfortable paying a lot for a good meal. For 30 dollars a pizza it shouldn't have 25 cents worth of cheese. Even paying extra for cheese still results in same sad amount. Literally, making a protein shake because I'm starving. read more

Matchbox is a great addition to Silver Spring. I tried the Rockville location with a family friend and my parents several years ago either when I was a student at American University or was interning for the summer. I enjoyed their Fire and Smoke Pizza but my parents found it too spicy. I was happy it was coming here and my fiancé and I loved the Fire and Smoke Pizza and have also enjoyed their unlimited Brunchbox and cheap drinks on weekend as well as their happy hour specials and rewards such as free birthday pizzas. When my dad was in town in June we chose to eat here after over a year of not eating here in person (ordered for carry out and delivery a couple times) and also knowing they also make some of our favorites from one of the best restaurants in the area, Milk and Honey. Interestingly, they do their brunch all day every day as well as Milk and Honey's brunch items. This may be due to the fact Eggspectations closed next door. With my dad we ordered the 14" Holy Grail Margherita Pizza as well as the RumChata French Toast and Deep Fried Salmon Hash from the Milk and Honey menu. The Milk and Honey items were good too but not quite as good as what we have ate at and ordered for delivery from the Beltsville location with the French Toast being the most impressive. For desert we shared 9 of the Donuts on the Matchbox menu and the Deep Fried Strawberry Shortcake Biscuits. The donuts were delicious but the biscuits were overcooked and disappointing, nothing like what we ate in Beltsville. Pre-Covid Matchbox was 5 Stars but due to the fact they did not have happy hour (but planned to resume soon) , Brunchbox (with cheap drinks), or the Beyond Sausage makes it not quite Five Stars. While I appreciate them introducing Milk and Honey to our neighborhood, I hope they can improve the consistency to make it closer to the food we have had from Beltsville. read more

I haven't been here in years, and now I remember why. The staff is excellent, but the food is terrible. How do you mess up what you're known for? Please save your money I started with the crab soup. First off, it was incredibly salty--unbearably so--and it had an odd brownish color. Strange. Next was the pizza. I ordered The Pig, expecting a fully loaded pie with all kinds of meat. That didn't happen. The pizza was undercooked; I could tell as soon as it arrived. The middle was soggy, the ingredients were sparse, and they bizarrely put the ham under the cheese, which left it undercooked. Why would you do that? Meat placed that way will never cook properly. The execution was just poor. I only managed to eat a slice because I was starving and ended up taking the rest home to cook it properly myself. To top it all off, the service was painfully slow. My friends and met for brunch and wanted somewhere spacious and easy to get to. Matchbox certainly fit the bill, especially it's proximity to the Wayne parking garage. The place was hopping, which was a little surprising because DTSS seems kind of dead. I was hoping there would be a bit more space between diners, but because it is so large, and the booths are spacious, it didn't feel like I was breathing in other peoples' germs. In addition to their all-day, everyday brunch, they offer brunch items from the pop-up Milk & Honey Cafe...and whoa, did they look good. We all ended up ordering off that menu. My friends both got the deep-fried salmon hash, while I went for chicken and biscuits. Ok, do the wait was kind of atrocious, but that was perfectly ok because it gave us lots of time to catch up on all the gossip. And when the food finally came out...oh yeah!! The fried chicken was simply delicious, with perfect spices and a crunchy exterior. Honestly, it outshine somewhat dull scrambled eggs and an ok biscuit. But yay for really excellent fried chicken! My friends' dishes were kind of stunning - a huge chunk of deep fried salmon sitting prettily atop the hash. I've never actually heard of deep fried salmon, but it worked. We decided to try this local spot tonight for some quick drinks and food. We ordered the old bay wings. The seasoning was great, thought the wings a little dry and at $19 for 6 definitely not worth it. We were shocked that was the market price as indicated on the menu. Compared to other prices in local places this is pretty steep. The pizza was delicious. The crust was perfect, the sauce was sweet, and the cheese perfectly melted.
