I have been a big fan and supporter of Matchwood since they opened. As other restaurants have faded in and out over the years, I have often said over the past year that it is the best restaurant in Sandpoint. The Reuben is to die for! Always solid food and fantastic beer. My last 3 visits have been absolutely awful. I'm not sure if the kitchen has a new chef but something has changed. I have had the savory burger twice and the jam'n burger over the last 3 weeks. Total hockey pucks. Hamburger cooked beyond well such that there was no juice. Toasted buns that probably started out stale and the extra heat turned them into a cracker, essentially. Last night we had two 16 year old boys with us who are active in several sports and they left half their burgers on the plate. Never seen teenage boys leave a hamburger uneaten!! We brought it to what I think is the manager's attention, who offered to to take it off the bill or give us a gift card. We turned it down and said we want to support them, just wanted them to know, hoping for improvement. I will say that they were slammed last night due to live music and the 4th of July weekend, as well as they warned us it would be 45-60 minutes for food. I would think that if they weren't overcooking their food it would come out faster. Lastly, please bring back the simple salad. It was so tasty and simple. read more

Good place. Very family friendly, so watch your mouth after you have a couple of beers. :) I liked the milk stout I had but wished I could wait until it got warmer to taste the richness. My fiance had the amber which was rich and smooth, with malty undertones. Overall very happy with the Foose ball table and the popcorn. Nice spot. It is so great to find breweries that have outdoor seating and dog-friendly tables. The beers are fantastic, and the food is excellent. Also, the servers are extremely friendly and helpful. Recommended items include the sloppy joe nachos, chicken parm sando, ceviche shrimp tacos, and beet salad! Beer wise, the spruce tip pale ale is great. They also have a rice lager that is perfect for lighter beer fans. We'll be back! read more

Really great little Brewery- had a sampler and every single beer is executed perfectly to the style. Fun and beautiful atmosphere, so much room with downstairs and upstairs seating, kiddos welcome, covered outdoor seating where dogs are welcome, impressive selection of food, most of which is served until close. While the food is great, they way "oldtimers" and possibly the owner (?) treats new staff is abysmal. This really cool, engaging and upselling young man was trying to learn a system new to him, the folks that should have been supporting him were uncool. The older gal was dismissive and the dude from the kitchen was a jerk to us AND the kid trying to do his job. We have both worked in bars/restaurants for a long time and this was so typical. C'mon guys, you talk about being inclusive. Then, put your money where your mouth is!! This was sad, and while I agree with your politics, I don't agree with how you treat your staff. read more

Worst service. Our waitress forgot to put in our drink order and looked surprised when we reminded her. We shortly after placed our order and over an hour later we still did not have our food. The tables around us that came in after us all had their food before us. The staff was completely unapologetic about the situation. Amazing food and great atmosphere! We stopped here after a long drive and a hike and we were starving. They had great beers, the spicy chicken sandwich (w/ fries) was incredible! We stopped in at Matchwood while on vacation. They sat our party of 9 at two adjacent tables (adults table and kids table ). We all ordered food and everything was delicious. We especially liked the tacos and buffalo cauliflower. I ordered the coconut cream ale and it was amazing. My husband had a couple of beers that he enjoyed as well. I snuck a couple sips of his hazy IPA. It was very good. We highly recommend Matchwood for the service, beer, food, and atmosphere. read more

Absolutely love this brewery! I've been going since they opened and whenever I'm in town. Went this last week and was so happy with how they are dealing with Covid. What a cute place. Obviously someone has attention to detail ...you immediately feel the FALL vibe in this urban chic barn. There was ample seating, clean restrooms, and a plenty of hand sanitizer. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon. We were greeted right away. After looking at their list of beers, we decided to start with a taster of each of their 9 beers. Being an IPA lover, sometimes I don't appreciate the variety of beers around. But we both found all nine beers to be OUTSTANDING. I'd be happy to have any one of them in front of me at anytime. Our server (Emily) was perfect. She answered our questions but didn't interfere while we were tasting each one. Although they have food available, we weren't hungry. But they had a nice assortment of food choices. Next time I'm in Sandpoint again, I will definitely make Matchwood my #1 stop. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves beer. Love this local brewery. The building itself is pretty special, great seating inside and the outside patio. But it's about the beers. The Double West Coast IPA is a delicious beer. It's hard to stop at having just one. My wife is a fan of the New England Hazy IPA. Food wise, the classic burger was quite good. Patty was almost over grilled. Grossly exaggerated marketing. Don't fall for all the adjectives or grandiose narrative claims--it's an overpriced tour-isty attraction that is cold-shouldered to the locals. But then, the owners are new to Idaho too, so no surprise they shill to a passer-by segment willing to spend six bucks for three pieces of bacon off the children's menu. Yesterday ; Farmhouse Silo Room for lunch. 2 draft beers, split a smoked turkey BLT with fries. Tab was $13 and change. Today; Matchwood Brewery. One burger with spiral cut fries, and two draft beers. Tab was $23 and change. Math is done. So are we. A $10 difference will keep us away. To add to the bad review, the burger at the Silo room was tops. Burger at Matchwood was average for a brew house, maybe less. Opinion : If you want to draw them in, kick butt on the bar food. Note to kitchen boss... Eat around, try what's here and build on it. Try, for example, a not so nose-in-the -air joint called The Boondox, down 95 near Cocolala. Their burger rules. Ask them why, and you'll see why your burger brings a yawn for that big tab. read more

Ehhh....if you're going to call yourself a brewery, at least offer good beer. I travel the country in search of the best beer. This isn't it. The only good thing here is the building. There are so many things wrong with this place. For starters, it isn't owned by locals and it shows. They have failed to read the pulse of the town which accounts for most of their patrons being tourists. I couldn't find one local to point me in the direction of things that locals do...not the touristy crap. Honestly, I would have thought that I was in California or Oregon. The food is just ok and it just doesn't have that friendly bar vibe. Walked in with high expectations based on the exterior. My mistake. Food was really great and unique. Same sort of menu you might find at any old brew house but I would say it was elevated. We were pleased with all of our selections. Ribs were fantastic, simple salad was delicious. Mac and cheese bites were surprisingly good. We ordered to go and the service was quick, our order was correct and the packaging was nice.
