Even through the takeout packaging, I could tell the food was beautifully prepared. Protection around the food. I enjoyed the appetizers first before moving on to the main course. The negamaki featured tender strips of steak wrapped around perfectly cooked scallions, creating a satisfying bite. The edamame was fresh, perfectly cooked, and lightly seasoned. The waiters were extremely polite and careful, maybe even a little too careful but that's great. This even during rush hours. The room was pretty dim, but I guess that how most restaurants around here do it. If you're looking for outstanding sushi and Japanese food, I highly recommend giving Matsu a try. read more

The people who work there are nice but management has really gotten stingy. We went here after a cancer treatment yesterday evening. We have eaten here before. This was one place we enjoyed and recommended to friends. Unfortunately they really don't seem to care about customers the way they used to. Up charging for any little substitute. Allergic to soy, can't have soy sauce and they said there's a fee for vinegar as a dipping sauce for sushi. Then we politely said we take the sushi to go. They wrapped up soy sauce to go which I'm allergic to and already told them about. It confused me why they can't offer a substitute free of charge now, vinegar is cheaper than soy sauce, and sauce should come with sushi, there shouldn't be any up charge. Every sushi place I've gone to has never charged for vinegar substitute of soy sauce. It dampens the experience for me to have told someone 'no soy sauce due to allergy' and yet they still try to pack it in front of me and then say it will be extra for the sauce. Aside from indoor dining, there is a popular delivery business. The menu provides a large variety of sushi items as well as some sashimi and cooked kitchen dishes. A number of the rolls are named after years. One of our favorites is 2020. The rolls are not only tasty with multiple ingredients, they are very pleasing to the eye, almost works of art! Since I'm a fan of sushi and had never been here before, I thought I had nothing to lose so we headed over to check it out. Matsu is not big upon entry - maybe 10 tables at the most but since we were there after prime lunch hours we did not find a crowded restaurant. As soon as we entered we were greeted by the staff who directed us to browse the menus after we stated we were ordering to go. The menu is typical of other Asian, sushi-centric restaurants I've been to: the classic rolls were there as well as some specialty ones, non-sushi dishes, and a selection of bento boxes. I wasn't too hungry so I decided to get just one roll - the Hawaiian stood out to me so I went with that; this was a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna. Overall the roll was good - it was made to order and tasted fresh, and despite it containing tempura it wasn't too heavy. I wouldn't call it something outstanding, but it was a solid roll. Service was good, everyone was friendly and our order was ready in a relatively short amount of time. Overall, I had a solid experience at Matsu - it didn't blow me away but I would definitely be open to returning and exploring more of their menu. read more

Hubby and I came here for lunch with our daughter and a friend. We just beat the lunch crowd and were able to score a table in the back, even with our large stroller. The dining area is pretty tight but because it was early, we were able to get a good table. Luckily we sat when we did because it started filling up pretty quickly. They have a sushi bar that holds about 10 chairs as well as 7 or 8 four-top tables. The staff was very nice. They have a lunch menu with quite a few options where you are able to mix it up. Hubbs and our friend went with the Negamaki Bento which came with beef negamaki which is cooked beef, rolled up to look like maki with scallion in the middle. It was really good. They served that with a choice of miso or salad, veggies, rice and a California roll. I hadn't had sushi in a minute so I opted for their three roll lunch. I chose salmon skin, shrimp tempura and a California roll. I picked miso soup to start. Everything was good and we didn't have to wait long. The staff was attentive so we were able to talk for a while, eat quickly, pay and ready ourselves to leave. Getting out was a little tricky because we were pretty sandwiched in the place. The lunch crowd really packed in and by the time we ready to leave there was a group of people waiting to be seated. The staff assisted us in exiting and some of the other patrons had to stand so that we could exit with the stroller. One woman even commended me for being brave enough to dine out in a place like this. Thankfully, no one made us feel like we were a bother. The Kaisu salad with "mixed springs with ocean seaweed in special sauce" had shredded daikon and carrot with a tiny piece of the generic, ubiquitous, slimy, emerald green seaweed. Not the assortment of different seaweeds as advertised. The eel cucumber hand-roll was 80 percent cucumber and a sliver of eel. The toro was tasteless and the sea urchin was old.
