Decent sushi and price. Relatively clean space but I'm giving it 2 stars because the staff was coughing, sneezing & clearing their throat very loudly in the kitchen. I wasn't sure if it was the chef but it was very unpleasant and uncomfortable especially knowing that they're serving RAW foods. They have to be mindful and maintain hygiene at all times. I never write bad reviews but sadly this one will be my first.I wanted to try a less expensive place and took a bet. I wish I read the reviews. In my entire lifetime of eating sashimi, I almost swallowed a pin bone. The tuna is also very colored and not higher quality tuna. Besides that, I would just say you get what you pay for. read more

My last review of Akami was in 2023. Tonight I ordered a delivery of 3 things: the eggplant appetizer (Miso nasu), a special vegetable dumpling and the Russian Roil - enough food for 2, so I'll have leftovers. Everything was extra delicious, so much so I had to call them and tell them! No place is always perfect, but tonight the food was wonderful. The chicken teriyaki lunch special was great here! The chicken was lean and came with fresh veggies, and the california rolls and dumplings were both good as well. I also tried their shrimp tempura roll (my favorite), spicy salmon roll, and spicy crab roll. I don't typically write reviews but the service was so reprehensible that i feel compelled to write a review. My daughter and I waited for 30 minutes (there was only one other table of two in the entire place) while the waitress ignored us. They were very busy with take out orders, and they had every opportunity to tell us that they could not take our order. But instead they let us sit there for 30 minutes before telling us they wouldn't be able to serve us and recommended us to eat elsewhere. Absolutely horrible behavior for any business. If they had told us when we arrived that they were too busy, that would've been fine. But to let us sit for 30 minutes. If I hadn't asked, we would've sat there for hours as they continued to ignoring us and waste our time. Rude waitress who was like 'oh well'. read more

Don't eat here!! I got seriously sick from their chicken teriyaki lunch special. I don't know what gave me the food poisoning - the rice, chicken, shumai, or California roll but I was sick within a few hours of eating and couldn't even keep water down. I was ill all night and couldn't drink water for over 12 hours - I've been sick from food before but this was really bad. I contemplated going to the ER. While I accidentally ordered from Akami Sushi for lunch delivery, I was not disappointed. For my lunch, I went with the three-roll combo dish, and everything was fine. Akami is probably one of the few places that provide miso soup and a salad with its lunch special. I ordered through Grubhub, and the food arrived at my apartment within 30 minutes. Bento Box lunch special for $9.50 until 4pm! Great value. Nothing like wrapping my lips around a tasty box close to home! It's a steamy swamp-assy Sunday afternoon and I was starving. Did not want to walk far in this heat wave. Looked around for a tasty new box in my hood that I could bite into and not become a soaked mess. All I had to do was walk around the block and this hot box was right in my face! Boom! Saw the menu outside this sushi joint on 1st Ave advertising some lunch specials that run until 4pm. I'm always into getting my lips around a tasty new box so I slipped inside. Heck, now I kick myself for not eating out this box sooner. Nice looking place. Typical Japanese sushi resto decor with plenty of seating. Attentive friendly service. Clean overall, and I must say the AC was cranked up so good I did not want to leave the cool air refreshing my body when my meal was finished. Even my nipples were hard, and it felt so good! Tasty lunch specials at terrific prices. The Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box for $9.50 was a great deal. Food was prepared well with large portions. Delish miso soup and a bowl of salad to start. Can of Diet Coke for $1.25 was also acceptable. Can't go wrong with a meal deal like this. The perfect weekend lunch on a hot day when there was no way I cooking anything at home over a hot stove. We ordered 4 rolls, 2 speciality and 2 regular rolls. Surprisingly, the regular rolls tasted way better than the speciality rolls. I guess that means the fish is good but they're various sauces and toppings aren't. I was looking forward to the up town hot girl roll since it was supposed to be spicy. I was hugely disappointed in that it was actually sweet. Sweet sushi is weird and doesn't taste good. read more

Pretty consistent and good neighborhood sushi place. We always get yellowtail scallion and salmon avocado rolls. Miso soup is good too.

I love that they have sashimi rolls with no rice! And they are very very good. I tried the Ocean and Christmas Sashimi rolls. The space is small and the waitress didn't speak good English. I'll be back though, the quality and price were great! read more

Recently Akita Sushi closed down and another Sushi place opened in its place.Their decor is dark with blue led lights and seems very nice and can be a great dining in option.They have ample table seating and can easily seat 6 people at the bar. I decided to try them last night and ordered the Crispy Tuna Roll from the Chefs Special Rolls with the cashier/manager.Ordering in was a breeze but the waiting almost killed me.I just waited waited and waited for that one roll of tuna for atleast 30 minutes if not more.She was constantly on the phone trying to resolve some credit card issues.I checked in with her after 20 minutes as my daughter was getting super hungry and she dashed into the kitchen.After waiting for another 15 minutes and no sign of her, I walked over to the bar and asked the sushi chef if I can have my order soon.He said 5 minutes and he made it in 5 minutes and gave it to me.I am positive my order was clearly forgotten up until then. The roll was pretty ok..Nothing to rave about and nothing to go back for.It was all fried (bummer) but the flavor of the fish was great.I wish I had chosen something else.Because the roll was so hot my pickled ginger and wasabi were all glued to each other and it was a hot mess.Maybe for hot rolls they should consider packing them separately.My daughter who is very fond of the ginger could not eat any since it was inseparable from the wasabi. I am definitely going back again and will update my review.They have lot of options for lunch specials and I am sure their other rolls wont disappoint me again and their service will get better after they iron out their kinks since they have been open only for a week. This is my new favorite place for two reasons: 1. There's more menu variety -- especially in the appetizers and salads -- than other sushi joints in the area. 2. The sashimi rolls! If you're trying to stay low-carb, and are tired of the standard naruto roll, these options are FANTASTIC. I've never seen these at any other restaurant. There are about ten different sashimi rolls available, and I hope Akami will add some more to the list! Other notes: tuna dumpling is creative, salmon skin salad is good (has seaweed salad and sliced cucumber mixed in), and each delivery order comes with a nice assortment of fruit. read more

Akami has been my replacement delivery sushi spot since Lemon Life closed down. I usually order here at least one a week. Their three roll lunch special for 12.95 which comes with a miso soup or salad will keep your wallet and stomach from being empty. Unlike many budget sushi places, the rolls are not heavily covered with rice and are generously filled which I appreciate. The restaurant is .75 miles away and delivery usually takes about 30 minutes (sometimes less!). The driver is always friendly and will deliver to your door, even in an elevator building. The seaweed salad was ok. The salmon was edible. But the sushi lunch special came with four pieces of fish I could not identify. The coloration was yellow and reddish. Note: This review is only for delivery! This is a pretty standard sushi spot. I ordered the kani salad and the tom yum soup. The tom yum soup is said to come with veggies, shrimp and scallops. For the pint, i got just 2 shrimp, some largely chopped garlic, and a shit ton of mushrooms. The broth almost tasted like tea, not what i would expect for typical tom yum soup. The kani salad was actually pretty good and more than what i expected. I'll likely try someone of the other japanese places in the area before ordering from here again. Since I live so close to it this was my go to sushi place. But I won't be going there again.. I ordered from them on seamless and when it took longer than expected I called the restaurant to ask what was going on. The lady on the phone was beyond rude, she didn't even let me talk and said "the food is on the way" and literally hung up the phone on me. This is one of the worst sushi experiences that I have ever had. We got our order 30 minutes after they said it should be delivered (which was 1 hour) and didn't even receive any of our sushi! Just got the salads, soups and soy sauces. When we called they told us that it was busy so now we have to wait more. Finally the sushi came and it is smelly, mushy and tastes like the fish has been out for a week.
