The sushi is ALWAYS warm when I order sushi here. I paid $50 for nigiri and hand rolls and it was all warm when I went to pick up. Raw sushi fish should be kept properly chilled the whole time. If the nigiri felt noticeably warm when you picked it up, that could mean: * it sat out too long, * the refrigeration/display wasn't cold enough, * or the order was left unrefrigerated before pickup. None of these things are ok! It was so fishy smelling as well and the worst part is I didn't know until I got home and opened the box. We had to ask water and our server is nowhere to be found. She only delivered the food and forgot about us. My 4yr old daughter to say hi. This was a small, hole-in-the-wall type Japanese restaurant. We happened upon it for lunch and had a great little meal. The waitress was kind and attentive. I started with a glass of Coke, but something was a little off with the syrup balance, it was really syrupy. We started with the miso soup, which had a very miso-y flavor and was delicious. We also had the gyoza, which were steamed and very tasty. We split 3 sushi rolls, which were small and basic but appropriately priced and very tasty. We had the volcano roll, which had an interesting spicy sauce on top that had an almost tingly sensation to it. We also had the Hawaii roll which was very fresh, and the Rainbow which was also fresh but could have benefitted from some lemon to squeeze on top. But after 4 times of extremely rude service. I can't bring myself to go back again. We ordered sushi every time, and when we asked for chop sticks, because they weren't provided, she acted irritated. Then sushi arrived with no trays for soy sauce, we asked for 3 and she brought 1. When I re asked for the remaining 2, she literally rolled her eyes and growled I was shocked. I was asking for something that should have been provided to us automatically l, and she was very irritated that I asked. I was a server for many years so I understand the challenges and always do my best to be a good customer, and tip accordingly. But after giving it serveral tries, the growling at me for asking for something necessary to my meal, is what did it for me lol that was a first, but made it my last time there :( read more

As a new discovery bay resident I was super excited to see that there was a sushi restaurant in town. We saw it on the map and ordered for take out. We got 3 rolls and a chicken teriyaki entree. Even though it was a holiday, it only took 25 mins for them to make our food so that was nice. Unfortunately we didn't like anything that we ordered. The rice on all the rolls was mushy. Both the red dragon and crazy monkey had a very sweet flavor, zero spicy which they both said they had. The miso soup was so concentrated, it almost had too much flavor? Very salty. Plus I got literally all broth, no seaweed, a couple small pieces of green onions and maybe 2 tiny specks of tofu. I didn't personally eat the chicken teriyaki but my husband said it wasn't good either. Possibly it would have been better dining in but i don't think we will risk the money to try again. read more

You walk in and you're greeted by Sophie and if you're lucky, there's a place to sit and dine with the six tables. The menu, tables, walls, windows, and floors are sticky and questionably clean. You kind of wonder and hope the kitchen is clean as well. But guess what? This is our closest neighborhood Japanese sushi restaurant. It's not the best sushi, nor the best bento box but service is always friendly and welcoming. We eat here at least once a week and the phone is always off the hook ringing for to-go orders. My go to are dragon rolls (golden, black) and chicken teriyaki and katsu. Tempura is always good here too. I know prices have gone up through the years but service is always good and everyone in there is working hard to prepare your meal. Give this place a try and make sure you tip them well. Very small, quaint place. GYOZA - pan fried dumplings - $6.95 -- pretty good! SALMON SASHIMI 5pcs - $10.95 -- thick cut and tasted fresh! We devoured these so quickly and placed another order! Worth it! RED ROSE (spicy tuna, deep-fried shrimp, asparagus, crab mayo, cream cheese, scallop, super white tuna, tobiko, onion & spicy sauce) - $16.95 -- my fave roll! It had a nice crunchy texture and everything tasted yummy! I even ordered another plate! Presentation is so thoughtful! The staff created a flower tree on this one. Soo cute!! Combo Bento boxes: We also ordered a couple of combo boxes which include soup, salad, California rolls and your choice of two entrees from the list posted on the wall (lots to choose from). Great value at $12.95 for quite a bit of food. If you've worked up an appetite, this is the way to go! Sashimi: My nephew didn't make a peep while he gobbled up his sashimi. I came in to try this place because I stop by the shopping area every once in a while, when I'm on the road for work. The restaurant is small and subtle, which I prefer in my sushi restaurants, shows that they've chosen quality over quantity. It's a nice little spot tucked away. This is my first review because my experience was very memorable. The waitress was very rude and dismissive. Definitely did not get the warm welcome another gentleman received picking up an order. I get it, sometimes it's slow and you don't want to wait on people but at least meet half of the energy of my greetings to the staff and not seem like I'm interrupting your cell phone time across from me. However, besides this service I received, which may be an off day that I happened to walk into, the food was decent. The California roll was surprisingly good. They don't shredded their imitation crab. You get chunks of it, and the avocado was perfectly ripe, which has so much more flavor. It doesn't have too much mayo, if any, so that may affect the taste for some people, but I enjoyed it. The sashimi was very good, Salmon melted in your mouth, and the tuna was pretty tender and fresh. Overall, the sashimi stood out, and I would definitely try more of their offerings. The chicken katsu was alright, nothing to rave about, but I personally would not try it again. I initially rated this a 2* but the food was the saving grace in this review, and that's what we really want to know at the end of the day. Is the quality of the food good enough to try. I would definitely want to come back, but it may be a while due to the service I received, but like I said, it could have been an off day for everyone. read more

5 stars for this sushi restaurant. My wife and I came yesterday for lunch and we had a great experience. We ordered their garlic edamame, volcano roll, caterpillar roll, and tempura. I loved the breading of their tempura because it was crunchy and full of flavor. I also loved their volcano roll; the crab filling was creamy while the tempura flakes on top gave this nice texture. Their prices are super affordable which is a huge plus for us. Their customer service is excellent! We will definitely start coming here for our sushi fix! read more

PSA - they're open during covid! I regret not taking a photo of their hours (which aren't updated on yelp) because when we drove by on a Sunday they were open even though it says closed on yelp. Their combination box is really worth it!!! We got salmon teriyaki and sashimi. Sashimi wasn't the highest/freshest quality but really good for the price. We'd get this again and maybe try some other specials on their menu. But their combination bento box was such a good deal (2 items plus rice, miso soup, and salad) we would probably just order even more haha! They're also super nice. I tend to look at pics to order and was drooling over the Sunkist roll that was 2 pieces of masago wrapped with salmon and a quail egg but apparently that was an old pic with a former sushi chef.
