I've been a fan of Side Street for years. Whenever I get a craving for pork chops, I salivate thinking of the platters of bone in goodness that has become their trademark. I don't know why I didn't come here as soon as I heard they opened up on the West Side (Best Side!) but we finally made it out to Wai Kai and just chose to eat by the bar as we didn't get reservations. We had the pork chops, fried rice, and garlic edamame for our first foray! Was so Ono! It was my wife and sister in law's first time and they loved it! The pork chops were on point and us being Pinoy, we asked for vinegar and was even more Ono!! Definitely coming back and the view by Wai Kai was awesome too! When none of us could decide where to eat, we figured, "Let's try somewhere we've never been!" It was a last-minute decision, but after seeing reservations were recommended on OpenTable (next opening was 8:00 p.m.), one of my friends rushed over before 5:00 p.m. and somehow scored us a table. The restaurant wasn't even that busy. Our waitress was awesome. She was super attentive and always checking if we needed anything. We ordered the fixed menu for 5-6 people, and let's just say... they weren't kidding. We ate until we couldn't anymore and still left with enough leftovers for another meal. Everything came out hot and one dish after another, so there was never a dull moment. Now for the food... the edamame was a little too shy on seasoning. One of us packed it up for tomorrow's work lunch to give it a second chance. The fried noodles? I'd probably skip those next time. They just didn't stand out compared to everything else on the table. A couple of things to know before you go: there's no A/C, so it can get a little toasty. Our biggest battle of the night wasn't deciding what to eat--it was defending our food from the flies. They do have battery-operated fly fans for the tables, but they were all being used, and we were told a few weren't working. What happen? I've eaten here more times than I remember. Majority of the time it's been with a huge party so the Prix Fixe option is best to save money. Everything is delicious but, here it comes, the pork chops were dry. I mean really dry. Everything else was just perfect. Tender, juicy, and covered with flavor. The fried chicken gizzard are so Ono. Only if eaten when hot, if you get it cold it's an excerise for the jaw. The regular trio poke above average worth writing about. The ahi poke was fresh and the shoyu sauce was just the right amount of yummy. California style was covered with the right amount of mayo. Roast pork poke is well average nothing to write about. By the Side of Water I ventured here this past Sunday in celebration of Father's Day dinner. NOTES 1. Reservation made for 5:00pm 2. Parking is plentiful in the Wai-Kai parking lot. 3. The restaurant is located to the side (left hand side if facing the primary/main building) of the main structure/building. 4. The building that houses the restaurant is is cozy yet comfortable (think of it is as a guest house on the property of an estate and away from the main house). Seating areas include an outdoor area fronting the building, the indoor area/primary seating area with views of the kitchen and bar, as well as an outdoor lanai area overlooking the water (not the wave pool, but the area in the rear where water activities are held). We checked in for our res, and were greeted by the polite hostess. After checking-in our party of 4, she asked us to wait a few minutes while they cleared our table. I noticed there were no booths, but there are tables in the space to accommodate small (such as ours) or large parties (and several large parties were seated after us). We looked over the menu carefully, and decided to share the signature fried rice, pork chops, and garlic fried chicken. A note to future diners that the food/dishes are served family style. We also ordered soda, but were informed they were serving canned soda in lieu of their soda machine being repaired (unsure when repairs will be completed). The food was delicious! Of the 3 dishes we ordered, we definitely thought the fried rice and pork chop were the stars of evening. The portions were very generous and there were enough leftovers for another meal honestly (I initially thought that perhaps that food wouldn't be enough, but those doubts disappeared as soon as the food was dropped off). Aside from our dinner entrees, we also shared 2 desserts: the peanut butter crunch square and the bread pudding. The dessert was great, a literal sweet treat to end the meal. The restaurant relies heavily on the trade winds and ocean breezes to keep diners cool (there is no A/C). Unfortunately, leaving the doors to the lanai (facing the water) open invites the flies into the restaurant, and there were multiple fly deterrent devices (a individual unit that is meant to "swap" away the uninvited flies from your table) placed at the various tables. We had one in the center of our table which helped to a certain degree, but didn't completely resolve the pest problem. 2. We thought the desserts were overpriced. They serve the same fantastic, family-style food with great service for large groups. Order the prix fixe menu as it is more cost effective than ordering ala carte. My sister wanted to celebrate her birthday here with my family and we were a party of 7 including a baby. I made the reservation over the phone about a month in advance for around 7 pm on a Friday. I also included in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. When checking in at the host stand, the hostess did mention that we would be sitting outside under a pop up tent in the front. I did ask if it would be ok if we could sit inside as we had a baby and we were celebrating a special occasion. The hostess informed us that it would be a wait for indoor seating, even if we had a reservation. In the end we ended up sitting inside, but would recommend clarifying your seating preference in your reservation if they don't ask when making one. Ambience is an open air restaurant that had live music and an amazing view of the water at the wai Kai with sunset in background. Our servers and wait staff were amazing! They were tentative and checked on us between dishes and kept our table clean. We ordered a lot of food and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. We recently dined here for a special event with a group of 20+ people. The food was ok but unfortunately, the service and communication regarding our reservation were very disappointing. When we made the reservation, we specifically requested the space from 4:00-8:00 PM, and the person taking the reservation confirmed that this would be okay. However, when we arrived, we were told that we only had the space from 4:00-6:00 PM and needed to leave promptly at 6:00 PM because another party was coming in. I'm sorry, but one hour is simply not enough time for a group of 20+ people to sit down, eat, and enjoy a special event together. The food wasn't even put out until around 5:00 PM, so we essentially had only about an hour to eat. We felt so rushed that we weren't able to truly enjoy the food or the company, which was especially disappointing because this was a special occasion for us. Our server also rushed us while we were still eating. Of course, we wanted to be respectful of the next guests, so we immediately packed up our food and made sure to leave on time. However, it was frustrating to feel rushed when the limited time we had was not clearly communicated to us when we made the reservation. Another issue was our seating. We were seated in an area where the sun was beaming directly on us, and it became extremely hot and uncomfortable. With a large group with kids trying to eat and enjoy a special event, the heat made the experience even more unpleasant. We completely understand that restaurants need to accommodate other reservations, but the biggest issue was the lack of communication and how the situation was handled. If we had been told upfront that we only had the space for two hours, we could have planned accordingly or made other arrangements. I'm a huge fan of the Side Street Inn locations in town so I was excited to try this place in Ewa Beach since it's close to home. Located in Wai Kai, we came here on a weeknight with friends visiting from out of town. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, the hostess told us there would be a 30 minute (minimum) wait, so we decided to eat at the bar. We were not prepared for what happened next. As this place is located near the water, there were thousands (not kidding) of little gnats flying all around us. The bartender remade my drink three times and even after covering it with a napkin, somehow the gnats still got into the drink. We spent most of our time trying to shoo them away from our face. It took them a while (about 15 minutes and many apologies later) to finally close the windows and doors. I am not sure why they did not do this sooner as the staff let us know this was a major issue during the rainy seasons. The service was great, they comped some of our bill after we told them we'd just take the food to go. We had already ordered and did not want to cancel the entire order. Needless to say, we will probably not return as it was not a great experience. They need to do something to keep the bugs away during the rainy/stormy seasons. Giving this place three stars as the food was awesome. Thank goodness there were no bugs in our to-go containers when we got home. The fried rice, pork chops, and fried chicken were amazing. Given the choice of inside or outside we decide on lanai outside. The atmosphere was so pleasant and relaxing, beautiful views. The Pork Chops were recommended by a friend so we gave them a try. With this order you receive 3 pork chops cut into smaller pieces. The pork was very Ono, although slightly over cooked. There was enough meat for four people. No sides come with it so you need to order separately. We ordered the fried rice which was very tasty with veggies, bacon, sausage. There was enough rice for six people. When my sister used to live in town and we would visit, she would take us to Side Street Inn every time. Now that she lives in the burbs, it's a bit of a trek. I saw that Hali'a had recently opened up near her, so we ordered takeout for dinner one night. We had: -"The Works" Fried Rice (signature fried rice with kim chee and lup cheong) - the signature fried rice already has bacon, Portuguese sausage, and char siu in it, so if you get "The Works", it'll be extra meaty. I didn't love the char siu in it. It was a bit dry and had this smoky flavor I didn't care for -Side Street inn's Famous Pan-Fried Pork Chops - I'm normally not a pork chop gal but I will eat a fried pork chop because when done correctly, it is juicy. Unfortunately, this one hit the mark and again, was a bit dry. I'm sensing a theme with their pork items -Signature Garlic Chicken (special marinated fried chicken dipped in a sweet shoyu garlic sauce) - this is just as good as I remember it was a the original Side Street Inn. It was flavorful and perfectly fried. All the dishes are huge and are all family-style. It was more than enough food for four adults + two kids, with a lot of leftovers the next day. The hostess started to walk our party towards the outside seats. We settled inside and noticed the chairs were dirty with dark spots. First impressions are important and this did not make us happy. Visited this place for the first time after flying in from the mainland. Met up some family here for dinner. We couldn't really see much since it was dark. But before heading here, we did check the menu on Yelp. I'm sure this place is beautiful during the day, since it is located on the waterfront. Our family ordered the Colin's Classic Prix Fixe meal, which feeds 4 to 5 guests. The Prix Fixe meal offers: Edamame, Farmer's Salad (it had shrimp in it), their signature Fried Rice (this had Portuguese Sausage and Char Sui - yummy!), Garlic Fried Chicken (very flavorful), Pan Fried Pork Chops (this was cut up already, so convenient!) and last but definitely not least; Sizzling Boneless Kalbi Beef with kimchee. They also ordered some appetizers, Chinese-Style Crispy Roast Pork (so good!) and some Ahi Poke (it's been a hot minute since we've had fresh poke and it was delicious!). We were not expecting such a huge meal to be offered to us that evening. There were only 4 of us and we had a lot of leftovers. The only thing I wanted to point out about this restaurant is the fact that they did not offer us a fly fan. With all the food that we had, we were literally trying to enjoy ourselves but it was difficult with all the flies flying around. You can reserve a table via Yelp or you can call for a reservation. For 6+ people you will need to call them. First off, I loved that parking is way easier and that there are plenty of parking stalls. We were seated on the lanai area and it was a bit chilly. It was loud in there with it being busy and with live music being played. This was nice but I felt like I couldn't hear the people on my table conversing. We started off with some beers and cocktails (Green River Mojito, Lemon Peel Margarita, Orange Bang Mai Tai). All cocktails were good, especially the one I ordered. You can taste the orange bang in there and it was delicious. The 7 of us shared the "Colin's Classics Prix Fixe" which was $179 and was enough for food despite the 4-5 serving. It came with edamame, salad, fried rice, pork chop, garlic chicken, pork chop, and kalbi. We still had leftovers to bring home. For dessert we had the "Signature Peanut Butter Crunch," which was the perfect way to top our night off. Overall, the food tastes the same as the original location. Their menu is the same despite some specials you can find on the table. I will be coming here more often for the food and cocktails. Everything on the menu sounded so good so we decided to get Collins Classics Prix Fixe Menu for a sampling of all their most popular items. The portions were very generous so we had lots of extras to take home for later. The edamame was cooked to perfection! The farmers salad was beautiful and delicious! Their signature fried rice was the perfect combination of all of Hawaii's quintessential flavors. Their famous pan fried famous pork chops, garlic fried chicken and sizzling boneless kalbi were absolute winners with us all! We noticed several mounds of fried rice plates started popping up on the tables around us so it confirmed we had ordered the most popular items. If only we had more time and more meals to eat while we were home then we could've gone back a second time! We will have to plan a specific trip to go back again next time! If you plan to go, know that they didn't open the doors early. We had reservations at 4 and that's exactly when they opened the doors. I'm not sure if we caught them on a good day at a good time, but we were able to sit at our table really early even if our entire party wasn't there yet. We sat on the outside area the level was a little weird and the entertainment was right next to us so it was kind of loud. We had a party of 12 so it did feel like we needed to shout extra across the table to have a conversation. The food was good. My only complaint would be the garlic fries. The texture was a little weird like sticky. Almost as if they took cooled fries and recooked it with garlic (don't take my word for it I'm not a chef or professional cook, just my opinion). We thought that was the best dish we ordered and preparation was on par with some of the great karaage chicken that we've had in Japan.) The food was amazing and definitely worth the price especially as it was family sized, we specifically got the rib eye steak along with some of there chicken dishes which were terrific! The Rib Eye Steak was so soft and tender that it melts in your mouth, service was so welcoming and made sure we were comfortable at all times. While the ambiance felt cozy when we went; getting to enjoy the breeze while looking at the ocean was amazing. Definitely recommend! read more

Just want to start off by saying, you can make a reservation via Yelp! I'm seeing lots of 1 star reviews from angry Yelpers that weren't able to make reservations at this spot. I know that this restaurant is fairly new, and like every new place, they needed time to work out the kinks. With that said, we had a 5 star dining experience tonight. The 2 gals working the hostess stand greeted us with warm and welcoming smiles. Our server's name was Jovanee and she was awesome! She checked on us periodically and kept our waters filled. We ordered the pork chops, rib eye steak, yakisoba noodles and finished it off with their signature peanut butter crunch. The food at this location was just as good as the Kapahulu location, if not better! We sat on the lanai/lounge area that had a beautiful view of the ocean and live music. We decided to try and walk-in with our party of 5 and fortunately, they were able to accommodate us. They had to sit us outside but we didn't mind because the Ewa Carnival was going on so we were able to hear the music, watch everyone from a distance, and also move freely. The food came out hot and fresh! Although we sat outside, our server did great with checking up on us. Due to us sitting outside, there were a bit of flies that came but they brought out fly fans for our table which solved the problem. The food here is shareable between your party. Hence why we only got 3 items. We left full and we still had left overs. My favorite was the fried rice and kalbi with Kim chee on the side. So flavorful and tender. read more

My family and I went on the first weekend they opened doors. Let me tell you...they were operating as if they were there for years! We celebrated our dad's birthday, so made reservations for 10pple the day before. And so glad we did coz there was a family of 4 that was a walk-in and the wait was gonna be 3 hours! We ordered the prix fixe menu for 4-5 guests that included their most popular dishes: edamame, farmer's salad, signature fried rice, garlic fried chicken, pan fried pork chops, sizzling boneless kalbi. We also ordered garlic fries which I think was quite expensive fries. For dessert we had peanut butter crunch and brownie, both were a la mode. The Westside finally has a Side Street Inn! I cannot recommend Hali'a by Side Street Inn enough! It's the ono grindz we all know and love from Side Street Inn, but with a beautiful oceanfront sunset view and live music! I was excited to find out Hali'a opened just in time for my husband's birthday. I took a chance and called the restaurant for a dinner reservation for the following evening. The sis who answered the phone sounded genuinely sweet. She was able to fit our party of 6 in. She even accommodated our request of bringing an outside birthday cake, just like the Kapahulu Side Street Inn when they made a similar accommodation for my birthday a few years ago! I checked in for our 6:00 reservation and noticed many parties were already in. I overheard a large party after me try to get seats, but would have to wait 2-3 hours. Make a reservation before making that trek through 76 South! The hostess who walked us to our table gladly took our outside birthday cake to store in their kitchen fridge. Our party of 6 (really, four adults and two kids with one lap child) were seated at the lanai, next to the live musician. Sound system was great even though the speaker was right next to us! Live music was 6-9pm and we heard classics from Willie K to Amy Hanaiali'i and others! Ordering was simple--we chose Colin's Classics Prix Fixe menu for 4-5 persons. Just like the older locations, when the restaurant says "good for X persons," they really mean "good for X very hungry teens." In short, everything tasted as ono as we remembered at the other locations. Our server would check on us the right amount of times without us feeling ignored nor hovered over...just the right amount of care! The bar looked pretty busy too and the cocktail/beer/wine menu looked interesting. If we didn't bring an outside cake, I would've loved to try the Signature Peanut Butter Crunch. I really cannot recommend Ewa Beach's new Side Street Inn enough. Great for birthday dinners, date nights, sports team banquets, or any fun occasion. Kid-friendly, too. Salads are pretty filling. View of the water from the inside & out. The staff all together were very friendly. The host herself set the tone of the restaurant. She was kind & even checked on my table way after we were seated. Sever was attentive and explained that everything was served as is and had to order the sides separately. All foods ordered are big portions. Chicken was a 10/10, snails = 7/10, fried rice = 10/10, ribs = 6/10. The snails weren't very tasteful, but it was served in olive oil, which was good to dip the bread in. The waiter was nice enough to bring me two sample bbq sauces to pick from for my ribs. The sauce didn't stick well to the ribs when cooked. The taste wasn't all there. It was pretty plain.
