    Pork chops

What happen? I've eaten here more times than I remember. Majority of the time it's been with a huge party so the Prix Fixe option is best to save money. Everything is delicious but, here it comes, the pork chops were dry. I mean really dry. Everything else was just perfect. Tender, juicy, and covered with flavor. The fried chicken gizzard are so Ono. Only if eaten when hot, if you get it cold it's an excerise for the jaw. The regular trio poke above average worth writing about. The ahi poke was fresh and the shoyu sauce was just the right amount of yummy. California style was covered with the right amount of mayo. Roast pork poke is well average nothing to write about. Overall three stars. The food is good and you get a large quantity to take home. It's just the pork chops were a disappointment and not worth taking home. And the pork poke was so so. M

By the Side of Water I ventured here this past Sunday in celebration of Father's Day dinner. NOTES 1. Reservation made for 5:00pm 2. Parking is plentiful in the Wai-Kai parking lot. 3. The restaurant is located to the side (left hand side if facing the primary/main building) of the main structure/building. 4. The building that houses the restaurant is is cozy yet comfortable (think of it is as a guest house on the property of an estate and away from the main house). Seating areas include an outdoor area fronting the building, the indoor area/primary seating area with views of the kitchen and bar, as well as an outdoor lanai area overlooking the water (not the wave pool, but the area in the rear where water activities are held). We checked in for our res, and were greeted by the polite hostess. After checking-in our party of 4, she asked us to wait a few minutes while they cleared our table. I noticed there were no booths, but there are tables in the space to accommodate small (such as ours) or large parties (and several large parties were seated after us). We looked over the menu carefully, and decided to share the signature fried rice, pork chops, and garlic fried chicken. A note to future diners that the food/dishes are served family style. We also ordered soda, but were informed they were serving canned soda in lieu of their soda machine being repaired (unsure when repairs will be completed). The food was delicious! Of the 3 dishes we ordered, we definitely thought the fried rice and pork chop were the stars of evening. The portions were very generous and there were enough leftovers for another meal honestly (I initially thought that perhaps that food wouldn't be enough, but those doubts disappeared as soon as the food was dropped off). Aside from our dinner entrees, we also shared 2 desserts: the peanut butter crunch square and the bread pudding. The dessert was great, a literal sweet treat to end the meal. Of the two, every morsel of the bread pudding was devoured. SERVICE Our server provided exceptional customer service! She was polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient with our questions about the menu. I appreciated that extra napkins were given, water refills were readily provided, and that she checked on us periodically throughout the meal. side NOTES 1. The restaurant relies heavily on the trade winds and ocean breezes to keep diners cool (there is no A/C). Unfortunately, leaving the doors to the lanai (facing the water) open invites the flies into the restaurant, and there were multiple fly deterrent devices (a individual unit that is meant to "swap" away the uninvited flies from your table) placed at the various tables. We had one in the center of our table which helped to a certain degree, but didn't completely resolve the pest problem. 2. We thought the desserts were overpriced. The peanut butter dessert was $18.99, and the bread pudding was $16.99. BOTTOM LINE Great local comfort food, and very good service. The fly problem/situation is unfortunate.

This is one of our go to places for celebrations. The service and the food are always excellent. Everyone there is so friendly and they always make sure I'm taken care of. Especially because I need that extra help with me being in a wheelchair. Love the ambiance and some days they have local entertainment. I would recommend everyone to at least try this place once because you will definitely be coming back again and bringing the rest of your Ohana and friends.

Hali'a by Side Street Inn is located at Wai Kai in Ewa Beach. It is the sister restaurant to the Side Street Inn restaurants in town. They serve the same fantastic, family-style food with great service for large groups. Order the prix fixe menu as it is more cost effective than ordering ala carte. Menu consists of Chef Colin's classics edamame, farmers salad, fried rice, pan fried pork chops, boneless kalbi, and garlic chicken. Everything was delicious so we couldn't pick any favorites. We were SO stuffed! BTW...If you like appetizers, order the poke trio as most of the poke is market price. The trio is a set price. They also have desserts if you still have room... Ample free parking in the large lot.

Man the food is blowing us away! Just two of us and it was a lot of food! Best for family style. Service was friendly. Signature garlic chicken was awesome. Wish they put more ahi on the pork nachos tho haha. Dessert hit the spot. Prices were decent for the portions. Cant wait to go back!

Halia by Side Street Inn Local Comfort Food Restaurant Overall: 8.1/10 Food: 7.5/10 Service: 8.5/10 Ambiance: 8.8/10 Value: 7.7/10 Halia by Side Street Inn was a great way to spend my sisters birthday. They serve some great local eats- we had their Classic Prix Fixe Menu that came with their signature fried rice, boneless kalbi, garlic chicken, pan fried pork chops, and farmers salad. The meats were all so tender and broke apart easily. The highlight for me was the pork chops which had the perfect crispy batter but super moist on the inside. We also had a side order of garlic edamame and ordered the Orange Bang Mai Tai, Guava Jelly, and Guava Margarita Cocktail. The drinks were strong but super tasty- great value. We also had some great live music playing the whole night- they feature live music every fri-sun! Def come check out Halia by Side Street Inn if you have the time and want some good local eats!

This is the second time dining here and the service is SUPBERB. Our server was very attentive to our party. We ordered the Colin's Classic Prixe Fix menu which include all the popular dishes. We did get a their noodles as well. There was 12 of us in our party and it was still alot of food. Ambiance is casual but still classy. There is a balcony sitting area that overlooks the water. Great place for small and large parties. There was a $10 fee for cake service since we bought our own cake.

We went here for a belated Valentines dinner when they had available reservations. The restaurant is located at Wai Kai next to the man made lagoon which is has the beach and ocean on the other side. Given the choice of inside or outside we decide on lanai outside. The atmosphere was so pleasant and relaxing, beautiful views. The Pork Chops were recommended by a friend so we gave them a try. With this order you receive 3 pork chops cut into smaller pieces. The pork was very Ono, although slightly over cooked. There was enough meat for four people. No sides come with it so you need to order separately. We ordered the fried rice which was very tasty with veggies, bacon, sausage. There was enough rice for six people. There was so much extra food it two to go containers. The server was great, very pleasant and friendly and took good care of us. I'd invite a couple next time to share our meal with.

Natasha Lynn gave us great service at this lovely restaurant! She brought us plates in a timely manner. Boneless Kalbi was tender and delicious! The House Fried Rice had a piece of bacon in each bite. And the Chinese chicken salad was perfect to add veggies to the meal! We had some garlic fries with the meal and since everything was in large portions it went well together! The musician they featured played soft Hawaiian music and added to the ambience there. As we were having an early dinner we got lots of attention from the wait staff. We enjoyed the ocean views, the happy atmosphere and the sun about to set when we left. Lovely evening was had by all.

When my sister used to live in town and we would visit, she would take us to Side Street Inn every time. Now that she lives in the burbs, it's a bit of a trek. I saw that Hali'a had recently opened up near her, so we ordered takeout for dinner one night. We had: -"The Works" Fried Rice (signature fried rice with kim chee and lup cheong) - the signature fried rice already has bacon, Portuguese sausage, and char siu in it, so if you get "The Works", it'll be extra meaty. I didn't love the char siu in it. It was a bit dry and had this smoky flavor I didn't care for -Side Street inn's Famous Pan-Fried Pork Chops - I'm normally not a pork chop gal but I will eat a fried pork chop because when done correctly, it is juicy. Unfortunately, this one hit the mark and again, was a bit dry. I'm sensing a theme with their pork items -Signature Garlic Chicken (special marinated fried chicken dipped in a sweet shoyu garlic sauce) - this is just as good as I remember it was a the original Side Street Inn. It was flavorful and perfectly fried. All the dishes are huge and are all family-style. It was more than enough food for four adults + two kids, with a lot of leftovers the next day. I still remember the original restaurant being better, but this will do in a pinch.

First time at this "SideStreet" location and a little disappointed in several things. We had online reservations which obviously weren't looked at and taken in to consideration? The hostess started to walk our party towards the outside seats. We settled inside and noticed the chairs were dirty with dark spots. First impressions are important and this did not make us happy. Really think since the restaurant doesn't open until 4 pm they could spot clean them? Waitress was nice and our food was delicious as usual. Only question we had were about the chicken wings. Asked if it was spicy which were told no but after a couple of bites- it was definitely coated with some kind of hot spices. Very disappointed. Recommend because if the large portions that you dine with 3 or more people.

Visited this place for the first time after flying in from the mainland. Met up some family here for dinner. We couldn't really see much since it was dark. But before heading here, we did check the menu on Yelp. I'm sure this place is beautiful during the day, since it is located on the waterfront. The restaurant has a beach view, wish I had seen it during the day time. But this was definitely a change of pace for us. Since we don't get to see oceans or beaches from where we live. My family went ahead and ordered for us since this was our first time there. We were greeted by friendly staff, that did offer us some drinks other than water. Our family ordered the Colin's Classic Prix Fixe meal, which feeds 4 to 5 guests. The Prix Fixe meal offers: Edamame, Farmer's Salad (it had shrimp in it), their signature Fried Rice (this had Portuguese Sausage and Char Sui - yummy!), Garlic Fried Chicken (very flavorful), Pan Fried Pork Chops (this was cut up already, so convenient!) and last but definitely not least; Sizzling Boneless Kalbi Beef with kimchee. They also ordered some appetizers, Chinese-Style Crispy Roast Pork (so good!) and some Ahi Poke (it's been a hot minute since we've had fresh poke and it was delicious!). We were not expecting such a huge meal to be offered to us that evening. There were only 4 of us and we had a lot of leftovers. The only thing I wanted to point out about this restaurant is the fact that they did not offer us a fly fan. With all the food that we had, we were literally trying to enjoy ourselves but it was difficult with all the flies flying around. They finally gave us one but it was already towards the end of our meal. Other than that, we did have a good time eating all the food and catching up with our family. We will definitely come back during the daytime, so that I can see the views. And we will also be asking for the fly fan once we sit down!

Gotta admit, foods good, front of the house service was great. The lemon peel margarita was by ok but the food was great. We got the set menu, added escargot and a couple other items.

The Pork Ribs were actually the closest to previous pictured plates - tasted like "salt and vinegar" instead of "salt and pepper" - still skimpy (little meat covering huge bone inside)! Their "garlic noodles" had so much garlic that I'm sure that Vampires and Draculas will stay away from me for a week. The rice tasted like "day-old refrigerated" rice which was microwaved. We specifically came out to support our friend who was the musical talent providing the live entertainment from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Our reservation was at 5:30 PM, and the vibe was so good that we stayed all the way until 9:00 PM. Because we arrived during the last 30 minutes of happy hour, we immediately ordered a major spread of pupus from the Pau Hana menu. We shared the lechon style brussel sprouts, hand-cut fries, steamed shrimp & pork won tons, scallion bread, and fish tacos. Every single bite was delicious. I paired the food with a Hana Koa Roof Top Pale Ale from their local drafts list, which was crisp and excellent. After happy hour wrapped up, I moved on to the dinner menu and ordered the Half Pound House Burger and fries for my entree. The burger was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Overall, the food and ambiance were absolutely outstanding, and the service was prompt, attentive, and friendly from start to finish. The noise level was perfectly moderate, letting us enjoy both the live music and our own conversation. We had a great time and will absolutely be back!

Underrated local dinner spot…read more The entry to this restaurant is so easy to miss because it's so narrow and it blends in so well with everything. I don't know if they want to keep it hidden, but I guess you could consider it that. We went in on a Saturday night with reservations and I highly recommend it since the place was full when we went in and more people kept wanting to come and eat. Service was great from beginning to end, I especially love that everyone accommodated my stroller and my baby. There were four of us and we each got something different, but to start I highly suggest the steamed shrimp and pork wontons and the lechon style Brussels - I would've double-ordered those for my entree if I could have! For entrees we ordered the garlic noodles, misoyaki butterfish, seared catch-of-the-day, and the burger. They were all amazing, and after we all started letting each other try we started making our own "flights" because everything just hit different spots and flavor profiles. In summary, this is one of those places that doesn't care about aesthetics, the decor is casual, but the food is soooo ono. They focus all their energy on food and service, and that makes a winner winner chicken dinner in my book.
