Matt came recommended, which is why I was willing to wait when he quoted a long lead time of up to two weeks just to provide an estimate for driveway and flower bed edging. Unfortunately, that is where the reasonable service ended. As of today (seven weeks and five days later), I still have not received the estimate, despite following up with phone calls and emails. This lack of professionalism and unresponsiveness has wasted significant time, preventing me from moving forward with my project. I cannot comment on the quality of the work, but I can confirm that the communication is horrible. This extreme delay and silence are a major red flag for how this business operates. I have since noted that this communication pattern is a recurring issue mentioned in other Yelp reviews. I hired Matt Sander Landscape in May 2021 to do a full landscape/hardscape design for my front and back yard. Really enjoyed my initial meeting with Matt and Phil, the designer. From the first meeting, I told them I was looking for a contemporary/modern style. I provided the designer with a multi-page PDF of inspiration images and links to examples of landscape designers I liked (that don't live here). Long story short, they couldn't deliver a contemporary/modern landscape design. But, instead of owning that at the beginning of the process, they let me know after two disappointing design rounds and a $700 deposit down the drain that they "believe that your desired design aesthetic is outside the scope of our expertise". They had all the information to make that determination early-on but took on the project anyway. The only saving grace and reason they aren't getting one star is Theresa. She's a hoot and I loved talking to her. I think she did her best and made every effort to save the project when she saw it wasn't working. Now, I've had to start over at square one 6 months later--when I hoped I would have had my landscaping installed and ready to enjoy by fall. In late Sept, we contacted this business to troubleshoot an outdoor landscape lighting issue and I have had nothing but total lack of communication since Matt first came to our property for a site visit. He told my husband that his office would call to schedule a tech visit in a few days - no call after about a week so I called and emailed. Oct 9 from the Business Office Mgr Email: "I wanted to email and let you know that the work would be a work order. In order to do the work, I need to send out Jorge to do a review of the issue. That is our service call, and it is priced at $ 125.00. From there we do the work based on time and materials for completion. My question is whether or not you are interested in having this take place. If so, please let me know and I will make arrangements to get Jorge out there." ME: I replied same day and accepted a scheduled service. Bus. Office Mgr Email: "I will get it set up and on the schedule. I will also let you know when I get that date and time confirmed." Oct 13 - I emailed to find out if we could schedule a date. Bus. Office Mgr Email: on Oct 14 she apologized for the late response as she had been out of the office but would have a response for me after the team meeting that morning, Oct 14, as to when someone could be out to the house. No follow up call or email so I emailed again...CRICKETS! At this point, I decided to go elsewhere and scheduled another vendor for an onsite visit that weekend, on Sun Oct 18 at 1:00. On Sat Oct 17 at 12:00 noon, I had 2 fellas knocking on my door. My husband answered assuming the two were with the new vendor that I anticipated arriving the next day since we still had not heard back from Matt Sander Landscaping with a tech visit date/time. After chatting with the two techs, I discovered they were with Matt Sander Landscaping and not the new vendor. NO call, NO email that they were expected out to the house--What if we weren't home or if we had already had work done by another? The two techs were courteous and efficient; they found the issue and replaced the bad cable. I had my suspicions as to what this would end up costing us so I tracked arrival and departure time (1.25 hours), and I asked the guys to leave the remainder work of hiding outdoor wires under rocks/rubble; that my husband could do that. I emailed the following week to find out when I would receive my invoice - no reply, of course. On Friday, Oct 30 I rec'd the invoice in the mail - way more than I expected for a 1.25 hour job and a cable replacement - I was charged for '3 hours labor'...wait, that's double the actual time the techs were here. Another RED flag! Also, the invoice was dated Oct 16, the DAY PRIOR to SERVICES RENDERED...how can an invoice be initiated 'before' services are rendered. Another RED flag! I emailed the office that same day to dispute the invoice and hours calculated and asked for Matt or someone to call to discuss. I would anticipate that the $125 site visit charge goes towards services/time rendered most contractors do, however, I don't know...noboby will email me back or return my calls. POOR - POOR - POOR communication or lack thereof through this entire ordeal! I have NO issues with the work done but I DO have issues with the severe lack of communication and with the invoice! "Professionalism" (the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person) extends through all facets of business from the first phone call or email to the technicians that do the work and the work done; and I have rated this business accordingly. read more

On 03/10/2015 I tried reaching Matt Sander Landscape as they were the ones who did the work on the home I have recently purchased. I wanted a basic info on the winterizing/de-winterizing/irrigation system/sprinklers/water feature and basic "what to do's" and "what not to do's" with the job that they did for the previous owner of my home. Initially I was even told by Andrea at their office that it probably wouldnt take much longer than 45 minutes of their or my time. At first Andrea, was very responsive with answering my questions via email. We discussed a time in which someone would come out on a Saturday and what they could do for me. After the 3rd day of back and forth emails she told me there would be a charge. I then asked her if I could contact the owner directly to explain the situation and what it was that I wanted. Word for word this is what my email said to the owner: 03/12 I sent this to Matt -I know time is money, and a courtesy visit might not be something that you would typically do for property where you did not do the work, or even period. Being as it is work of MS Landscape I would prefer that you guys look at it instead of someone else. You guys did a beautiful job at that. If you are willing to make any exception to the charge, that would be greatly appreciated. Either way, let's get something scheduled on the 28th of March as I believe you will be out next weekend?- A few days after I sent this email I followed up and was able to speak to Andrea. She basically said, Matt or Mark will follow up with you and wanted nothing to do with my call. Not sure what I did wrong but this is abosolutely rediculous customer service. POOF... that is the last I heard from anyone at their company. Emails... Messages... Calls, none of which have been responded to. From the looks of things and the reviews that have been filtered out, it seems as though this happens to other people too. Not a very good look for your business Matt. You might be good at what you do as far as landscaping and design, but customer service is not your forte. Today, my last ditch effort to get a hold of someone. Mind you, this started on 03/10 and today is 04/07. Andrea finally answers. I again ask her what the deal is. Basically my job isnt worth their time is what I gathered. Matt came to my house, we had a great chat. We discussed the project. I really thought he was the one I was going to use for our modest project. His company was even recommended to me by another contractor. Low and behold 2 months later I still don't even have a quote. I guess if the sales part of the job is not responsive, I can't imagine how the customer service is once the project starts. I'm sorry Matt, but I have emailed and tried getting follow up for a bid over the last 2 months and every time I just hear excuses that the bid is being worked on. I think I was more than patient. I wish they would just tell us they are too busy rather than being left to wonder if they will ever return again. We have made, email, text, and voicemail and even our phone call received only an assurance by his office staff Matt would get back to us. All has yielded nothing but dead air. He put together a nice backyard design and his crew installed very satisfactory, But, with dying plants and water system questions and lighting breaking down, no replies. Tried to do additional work in our front yard, tree removal, watering system and new tree and no replies. I have used Matt Sander's twice since I have been in my home. He is the first company I think of. HIs workers were on time, courteous, cleaned up after themselves. When I had questions, they were able to answer them for me on the spot. When Matt came out to go over the planning of the backyard, he listened and gave me many options for pricing on what I wanted so I could stay on budget, but not lose plants or ideas that I wanted. We were extremely happy at the time with Matt's abilities in helping us achieve our vision. We had our backyard re-landscaped several years ago. All the grass was removed and we had a paver patio put in with a back wall, trees, shrubs, and plants. 5 trees have died, the patio doesn't drain and the specifically requested dark purple rhododendrons are pink. 5 trees have died and many grass plants have had to be transplanted because they grew too large for the location. VERY disappointing and due to the patio-paver issue we are still experiencing drainage issues. read more

Matt Sander landscaped my entire yard front and back about 6-7 years ago. He is now in the process of redoing the back yard. Fall of 2015 we added on to the rear of the house. In the process the deck was removed and the lawn became a mud hole. We saw the plan today, a 700 sq ft patio, resided smaller lawn, additional landscaping around house. We worked with Matt Sander Landscape in the past and they did a fine job so when we called them to do our new home we were very excited to work with them again. We were very unhappy with their service this time due to bad communication and services. This job was not done on the planned time frame and it was not communicated to us as to when the job would be done. They are very bad about getting back to you in a timely matter, except when they are wanting payment. Make sure to read your contract and have everything in writing; make sure you know what will be included in the job in detail before having them step on your property. Make sure any type of changes are in writing before adding anything to the agreed upon price, and ask for an itemized list before starting any work. I wish we would have taken the advice of several others and chosen a different landscaper. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more
