Portions are large great service food is unbelievable reminds me of my grandfather's dinners

Disaster. If you're looking for what you experienced on Long Island as their namesake you are mistaken. Food was actually good but what an absolutely total mismanagement by the manager and chef. They overbook. No spot for you to stand when you wait. It took over 2 hrs just to get our entrees when we sat (which was rather quick so no problem with arrival to table). Table next to us was sat 45 minutes after us and got the check when we received our entrees (we were a party of 2 with 2 pasta dishes and they were a party of 4 with way more). We finally received our food when we asked a random waiter for the manager (we have never done this) The actual food was good. I won't hit them on that. But management needs to be fired. The guy was completely lost and I noticed it when we walked in. It's not the patrons fault it's over booked. Stop taking reservations and manage your well priced establishment. People pay good money and expect it. I didn't feel any ownership for mistakes which was unfortunate. Each table around us was comped a dish or a drink. If that doesn't say something I don't know what will. Management feels it's worth a free round to pack everyone in. I saw people with young kids upset and asking for the check early and older people with their grandkids (who were old enough to drink) doing the same. We really wanted it to work. Would I recommend. Hard no. We tipped over 20%. Did the waiter do his best. I think so. But the problem is management and back of the house. And all of the front of the house has to deal with it. Whomever was the manager and chef December 2022, should walk out. It's not your time or place. Retire. You're in over your head. It couldn't be more obvious. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of family-style Italian restaurants, but had a great experience at Matteo's. The best part is that you have the option of getting a menu item as a regular serving or one for the table. Be careful though, because even a single serving can feed three people. The food was very good as well. I had the caesar salad and eggplant parm. I also got to sample the chicken parm and shrimp diavolo (extra spicy). The food was very good and the service was great as well. We had Yael as our server and she was lovely! Matteo's is a great spot for locals. read more

One of my favorite dishes to get whenever I have the chance is definitely a Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. Matteo's did a decent job of providing this although my chicken came separately instead of mixed in with the pasta already which was a bit odd. The pasta was cooked well and the sauce was flavorful, although a little too oily for my liking. Regardless it was still a good meal, but nothing that particularly stood out to me. I would still come back and eat it again but I have definitely had better. The service on a Saturday night was not the best and the food did take long to come out but definitely worth giving a try. read more

Don't come here if you're looking for an enjoyable meal. To start, the restaurant was obviously overbooked to the point there was an overwhelming amount of people. They seated my party of 10 between two small square tables and shoved in seats which made just sitting down uncomfortable because you are squished with the person beside you. Our cups were obviously not washed but our server was kind enough to exchange them out. Next they had live music, which in most cases is enjoyable but not at this location. The DJ had the music so uncomfortably loud to the point where you could not hear yourself think. I literally felt like i was in a club because of how obnoxiously loud the music was. It was so loud our waiter was screaming to take our orders. I couldn't enjoy the company of my party because no one couldn't hear the person next to us let alone across the table. The food is mediocre at best for the price. Everything is EXTREMELY overpriced for a la carte food. Pasta was super bland and chicken was cold. You can honestly find a better meal and experience at olive garden. I usually don't write such negative reviews but i had a very unpleasant experience at this location. read more

Obnoxiously loud between patrons & entertainer who sings over the noise. If you like waiting for over an hour to get your food while the host and waiters pretend you're their goomba then this is the place for you. Food was average gloppy Italian-American food for the price...nothing special, but large quantities, covered in sauce and too much mozzarella cheese. This joint pretends to be an upscale Italian trattoria attracting wannabe wise guys (regulars) out the movies like Goodfellas. While eating dinner w/ my young kids, there was a rowdy table full of these characters next to us whose every other word was jerk-o**! Pretty classy clientele. Of course this group of low life's knew everyone in the joint and even had their own table. Everyone of them thought they were a Soprano. Only half of our entrees were served an hour into our seating while others in my family had to wait to get theirs while our waiter was MIA. We couldn't even talk to each other at the table because of the noise. I had to yell to get a busboys attention to request our waiter to come over to table to see where rest of food was. As soon as we got rest of food we grabbed check and headed out. Really not worth the experience nor money unless you like dinner theatre or want to be a goomba! You can get similar quality/portions of food for less money and noise at your local Olive Garden. Want something special & memorable head over to SASA's! read more

The restaurant is about five (5!) minutes from where we are staying while in Hallandale and we were planning dinner with friends, also nearby on a Saturday night. This place seemed ideal. Several reviews here were not great - and how wrong they are!!! The four of us had a reservation and waited about ten minutes for our table - reasonable considering how busy the place was. The main space in the restaurant is impressive. A nice open area with tables that are not crowded together, white table cloths and well spaced settings. A full bar is to the side and a second dining room is available behind the main dining room. We were seated at a spacious four seater and a server greeted us almost immediately. Water, bread and beverages followed. Matteos offers a decent list of bottled as well as "by the glass" wines and a choice of "house wines" by the glass. That's what we went with. We started with the "three cheese tastings appetizer" and loved it! Generous enough for us to share and delicious! The restaurant offers single and "family" style portions - twice the volume at less that twice the price. The four of us chose two family size dishes - the "Chicken Ultimate" over pasta and the "Nonas Ragu". Both were delicious and generous! To sum up, this is a great choice as an eatery! Anniversary dinner. You know it's a bad sign when salt & pepper shakers are present on table.Calamari and stuffed mushrooms appetizers. Calamari served with canned tomato sauce. Mushrooms not completely cooked. Entrees: veal chop with prosciutto & mushroom sauce good. Veal capposciaba served with arugula & mozzarella salad on top. Placed the it on side & added oil & vinegar & fresh black pepper to make a salad. Veal was good. Roasted potatoes as a side. No seasoning. Wait staff on top of each other & not productive. Honestly I have never written a review and I especially hate writing one that is poor however the experience we had dining tonight was one of the worst we have ever had. Sat down on a Monday night and ordered caprese for $30. Was only 5 tasteless pieces of tomato and cheese that took 40 mins to come out. We had ordered entrees at the same time but they did not arrive before we got up and left. Waitress was nice and obviously was not her fault but the kitchen is inept and cannot handle the volume of patrons dining there. After an hour of waiting we told them that they had 15 minutes to bring out the entrees or we would leave (after paying) and they managed to bring one of our parties' dishes and left the other two hanging. Asked the waitress for an update and the kitchen had no progress on the other dishes. I had ordered an old fashioned at the start of the meal and they brought out a glass full of straight bourbon which I returned for a margarita and was met with hostility. Granted the cocktail menu on the website was supposedly for a different location and the bartender was able to make a Negroni that was solid. In addition the restaurant's ashtray was positioned upwind of the patio and graced all of the people dining outside with the stench of cigarette smoke from the moment we arrived until we left. This was mentioned to the waiters and was not responded to in any capacity. Ultimately the food we did manage to receive was unexceptional and overpriced; would not recommend. read more

If you want water instead of Diavlo sauce, come here. If you want spaghetti that has the consistency of mush, this is the place to go. If you want penne pasta that is the same temperature as the iced water, you've found the right place. If you want inedible fettuccine Alfredo, this is the perfect place. Do you like your burnt green beans to be hot? No? Come here. This iIf you want edible food, or at least semi-edible food, feel free to go anywhere else. And if that isn't enough, the manager sat at the bar the entire night and, when we informed him about our less-than-edible food, his response was "we'll take it off the check" and promptly returned to the bar. A very dear friend of mine was just recently home from the hospital so what better way to visit but to bring dinner from one of his favorite restaurants. I was told he liked Mateo's Chicken Alfredo so I thought my hubby loves Chicken Alfredo but with broccoli. So I got a half order that I was told feeds two with broccoli and a half order without. Also I ordered a chopped salad for four as well as stuffed mushrooms to start. Lastly for dessert I ordered four different items. All this over the phone from their menu I found online. I was told it would be ready for pickup in 30 minutes. So I headed on over to East Hallandale Boulevard in the RK Shopping center right next to the Starbuck's. To be honest I had seen this place for years but never ate here or even walked in the door. I saw the valet sign but parked slightly past it so I could quickly run in. Was I surprised when I got inside but a beautiful sit down restaurant with a full bar to your right. You are immediately greeted by a hostess stand. I told the nice girl I was there for pickup and she rang me up as we waited for the food to finish about ten more minutes. I was given two large white shopping bags with food. My friend is literally in walking distance and we drove the food to his home. The portions were just the right size for the four of us to share. It even came with some bread that complimented the salad. The salad came with oil and vinegar mixture packaged seperately. Nice salad that included both green and black olives. Now the pastas there could have been a mix up as the half portion without broccoli was more of a thin spaghetti with a butter sauce not fettuccine noodle with Alfredo sauce. It was actually funny as if we had someone else's food albeit it was good and we ate it regardless. Now the four desserts we all shared. Two I couldn't recognize as one was supposed to be a cannoli but it was not the traditional shape. All I can tell you it was delicious. Will definitely have to go back some day soon but eat there instead. Hopefully with my friend when he gets better. He was happy and we all shared a nice meal together. read more

was most disappointed in my lastest dining experience at Matteo's Trattori. shared a stuffed artichoke with friend. Asked for it to be halved in kitchen. Instead it came out whole and waiter begrudgingly cut it, not in half, and basically smashed it. Veal parm was just ok. And when bringing out dessert plates, waiter wiped the dishes on his shirt! i have always loved Matteo's .....not so much now!! read more

I went to dinner with 7 other friends on New Year's Eve. Everyone got their food in a timely manner while I sat there and waited for my food. My food finally came at the time all of my friends were finished waiting. I had spoken, as did several of my friends, to find out where my food was. No one seemed to be able to give me a good explanation. I will say that our waiter Massimo tried Multiple times to find out about my dinner. Massimo was fabulous. I finally got my food about when we were leaving. They did give all of us complimentary coffee and desserts. I took the food home and ate part of it then. It was very good. I've been to this restaurant several times, but I never had this problem. Someone in the kitchen screwed up. Ask for Massimo. He's a wonderful server. read more

I don't know what it was but Juan our server (not sure that's his real name) decided to neglect us, playing to the stereotype of providing sub par service to the black family while endlessly fawning over all the white guests. My son wanted Italian and my wife chose this restaurant and made a reservation so they felt bad. Bread took an hour to arrive. Pasta another 35 minutes. No water top up, nevermind the extra bread we requested - which never came. When I reminded the head waiter, he asked them to bring Tabasco!!! Talk about stereotyping and profiling my family! We had an 8pm reservation and didn't eat till 9.35pm. Meanwhile, others were well attended to. We finished, paid and even left a small tip because of our good conscience, but we will not go back. Avoid this place, unless of course you agree with unequal treatment based on race. SMH read more

Was in the area visiting friends and they suggested dinner at Matteo's. Old school Italian food served by very a very skilled staff. We shared the calamari appetizer, chicken parm, family size eggplant parm and meatballs. All of our selections were good, but nothing special. Our server was very good as he plated our selections individually for each of us. The restaurant space was nice with the tables not so close to each other. I enjoyed my dinner and would go back the next time I am in the area. read more

Bad Experience. Party of 8 at 5pm New Years Eve. Place 1/5 empty. 7 of us served main course at reasonable time. After 45 minutes the 8th was not served. Went to desk and notified manager. He said he would take care of it and come to our table. 15 minutes passed and he didn't come over. Walked back to manager and his excuse was he was handling to go orders and on phone to his father. After "long discussion" he came to table with excuses. I understand kitchens may be short staffed these days, but no excuse for management not tell anybody anything for an hour. Although manager didn't charge for the 8th dinner (which was so late it had to be a to go order) and gave us a free round of drinks, dessert and coffee it was not a fun evening. read more

I had a really very disappointing dinner all around experience. Very inconsistent quality from good to very lousy. Horrible "stuffed artichoke", wonderful baked oysters but mostly not so good. This is the first time I've actually taken the time to leave a negative review, but sadly it's deserved. This restaurant is WAY overpriced for the well below average dishes they sell. For instance, my husband ordered a veal steak. It was $52 A LA CART and no flavor, seriously awful - to put it in perspective, he could have gone down the street and ordered a breaded palomilla steak at the Cuban restaurant and it would have been better, for $15 including sides etc. the service was also not good - employees standing around, goofing off in the hallways, just not what you would expect from a place that seems like it is trying to be a legit Italian restaurant. My go to when I am in town. Which is not often enough. Very busy tonight in season and expected. Ordered shrimp Diablo and sat at the bar for a beer long time .... but great conversations with all . The bartender is probably the best in this town, I really enjoyed watching and listening to him react with all . A great professional that is so missed in today's environment. If you are looking for a great all around traditional restaurant with your hometown respect, this is the place.. oh, the shrimp Diablo, perfect. Went here for a last minute dinner choice, and it did not disappoint! Greeted as soon as we walked in, seated promptly and water delivered right away. We started with the the fried zucchini app and it was delicious. Dinner we both got pasta dishes with vodka sauce. *chefs kiss* The best pasta I've had in a while! Dessert we got lemon-cello and tiramisu. Absolutely delicious. On top of a great meal and great service, they have live music! Singing Sweet Caroline, Michael Jackson, and so much more. Terrible! Waiter didn't have a clue. They had a French Canadian trying to sing Sinatra. He was loud, annoying and not a good singer. Service was terribly slow. Our reservation was at 6:00. We ordered entrees at 6:15 and left at 7:15 with no food in sight. The Manager was rude and unapologetic. I've been to the Matteo's in Huntington many times. A much different experience! Never Again! We had the chopped salad which my wife really like but I thought it needed more dressing. We also ordered the fried zucchini but it showed up after our entrees. I had the skirt steak and my wife ordered penne alfredo. It all was pretty good. Service could've been better. Never, NEVER order a Gift Card from this place from their website. The stories, the lack of follow up, the lack of providing a simple tracking number in 2022 is much more then anyone in their organization can handle. If you want to do a nice thing for friends, don't buy a gift card from this place. All you will get is the runaround, promised callbacks that don't happen and after a month, still have nothing. This restaurant is amazing. It's located in a small strip mall location and doesn't look like much on the outside but don't let that fool you. Their food is absolutely delicious. The staff is incredibly nice and also very courteous. It was sad to see how some customers were treating the staff but nice to see how respectful they remained. I gave our waiter a generous tip because he was very busy but kept checking in on us. On our way out he came running out the door to thank us. Our table had the spicy rigatoni, burnt vegetable platter, whole branzino, and the eggplant parm. The bread is served traditionally. Crunchy on the outside, fluffy in the middle with olive oil, vinegar, and Parmesan at the table. The plates have personal and sharing options. Go with the sharing, much larger for a slight increase in price. All the food was amazing. The servers were incredibly attentive so much so that we had to ask them to stop serving us from the platter because we wanted to dine at our own pace. Although, it was a Tuesday night and the place was very slow so they may have been searching for something to do. read more
