Amazing BBQ food! My first time at Matt's BBQ was a great experience! You order the food through their kiosk or online and then pick it up at their ordering window. I was there on a busy Saturday afternoon and it took 15 minutes for the food to be ready after it was ordered! Since it is in a food truck area, seating can be hard to find, but I was lucky and found a table quickly! Here is what me and my group ate: - Original Sausage - Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage - Pulled Pork - Brisket Burnt Ends - Potato Salad - Queso Mac n Cheese I loved everything we ordered, but what really was the fan favorite was the brisket burnt ends. They were so tender and juicy yet crispy on the outside. They did not need sauce, although the BBQ that it came with was tasty. There is also a handful of different sauces that are offered near the food truck such as peach mustard and cherry chipotle sauce. You cannot go wrong with anything on Matt's BBQ menu! Matt's is located in a food truck pod behind a German bar. Parking is on neighborhood streets and can be hard to find. With all of the food offerings and outdoor seating, it's like an outdoor food court. 5/5 - Brisket: Served with lean and moist. The moist is decadent and the lean is juicy as well. That's an amazing accomplishment! 5/5 - Pork Belly Burnt Ends: If you are squeamish about fat, you might want to skip this. Not a problem for us, and we loved how tender and tasty this was. 4/5 - Sausage: We got regular and jalapeno cheddar and they were both really good. 4/5 - Turkey sandwich: thick, juicy slices of turkey 4/5 - Queso Mac and Cheese: More of a queso with noodles than a mac'n'cheese. So interesting... I couldn't stop eating it. 3/5 - Potato Bread: pretty good 2/5 - Pinto Beans: just okay I would skip the sides and dive deep on the meats as they blow away competitors. Look, if you are reading this review, you are probably into bbq and you are probably interested in Matt's BBQ. Just fucking go already. Could I talk about how great the burnt ends were? Yes I could. Could I talk about how succulent and juicy the chopped brisket is? I'd talk your ear off about it. Could I talk about the seasoning and cook on the ribs? Don't get me started. The bbq on its own is amazing. The queso Mac and cheese was also solid. The meats do not need any sauce, which I think do not do any service to the meats, but they got sauces if you want them. Delicious on a hot summer day! Actually delicious regardless of weather but the bonus is sitting outside in the sun and licking my fingers after some tasty bbq. We got the ribs which had a nice crispy crust to them while the interior being fall off the bone. The brisket was flavorful and not dry at all! We dipped it in the assortment of sauces offered at the sauce station. We had to get the pickles and onions which were a fantastic choice. The coleslaw was a winner because it's vinegar based which is my preferred coleslaw! A little extra tang wouldn't have hurt but it was still yummy to me. The mac n cheese had the perfect amount of gooey queso cheese, wish I had some hot sauce to turn it up. Ordering on a Sunday around 5:30, our wait was a projected 25 minutes. Great spot for BBQ! The truck is located in a pod with a bunch of other food trucks so the vibe is fun. The meat is very tender, and I love the variety of sauces to choose from! I got the chopped brisket and it was delicious. However, I was mostly looking forward to trying the brisket burnt ends and they were sold out. I had arrived around 5:30 pm, so if you want to try the brisket burnt ends you need to come early. We also got a side of queso mac and cheese which was soooo good! This review is for their mac and cheese. I was shocked at what I was served, really. The pasta was undercooked, but what really got me was the 'cheese'. It looked and tasted like watered down canned nacho cheese, the kind with pimentos and green pepper chunks in it. Either that or boil in bag tv dinner. I've actually had tv dinner mac and cheese better than this. I forced myself to eat it because I was an expensive meal, but it belonged in the garbage. This is just great Q! Brisket- I am often disappointed by brisket, however, 2 days in a row (yes I went a second day to try items they ran out of), they delivered tender juicy brisket! Pork Belly- The pork belly had that trifecta of crisp/fat/meat perfectly cooked...on point! Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage- The jalapeño cheddar sausage was good, but it took a few bites to have the jalapeño come through-still loved it. Pork Ribs: these were just ok for me. I have been to many places in Texas and Cali that were phenomenal and have probably ruined me for a lot of bbq so take this with a grain/ a grain of salt. Pickled onions/ cucumbers are addictive! Love that they don't give a vinegar forward flavor- very well balanced! I could seriously eat a whole bowl of these things. After trying Matt's I now believe the hype and you should too. Their hours are a little limited so come midday to get your fix. At the moment you order via their app and when you get to the food truck you let them know your name and they will begin slicing up your order. Everything is cut fresh to order and hardly any wait once you check in. We got everything within 10 mins. | WHAT WE TRIED | - Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage - Sliced Brisket - Queso Mac and Cheese - Slices of white bread (not needed but always good to break up the meat imo!) Once you get your order they also have a sauce station for you to pack up your own sauces of their peach mustard, spicy mustard, cherry chipotle, hog vinegar, or warm dip. Get as many as you'd like to mix and match flavor combinations. Now down to the food. WOW. I don't get BBQ often but when I do I always crave brisket with some mac & cheese. The brisket here had a wonderful char on the outside and so smoky and tender. Not super fatty either so you got to enjoy each meaty bite. The japaleno cheddar sausage was a nice addition and you were able to taste both of the flavors without one overpowering another. Great crunch when you bite or slice into it. To meld everything together the mac & cheese was soooo creamy! It was definitely not expected but super tasty and has a nice kick with the peppers. Probably would opt out of the jalapeno sausage if I get the mac next time since they're similar in flavor profile. Order on the self service kiosk across from the cart and sauce table. There is a selection of meats that are still available, if there is something you were looking in particular, go early. Meats are in 1/2 lb orders and there are plenty of sides to compliment the meats. After ordering, find a seat in the outdoor area while you may continue browsing at other restaurants or bars. When order is ready they will call out your number. Meats were good to satisfy the BBQ craving. Best bite for me was the fatty brisket! read more

Awesome little food truck corral! And it's covered - somewhat. Bring sunglasses for late dining. And Matt's is of course the best BBQ you're gonna find. The food is a 5 star, but the ordering kiosk is not the greatest. My crew had a bit of difficulty with the ordering kiosk, stuff disappeared from the menu while trying to order and then sides disappeared off the order without them realizing. I'd say it was just our stupidness, but I watched person after person have the same issues. It takes way too long to figure that app/iPad thing out. Maybe try ordering ahead on your phone and just pick it up to eat on-site. The brisket was divine, but the ribs were orgasmic! Fall of the bone, with a little hint of sweetness. You can add sauces if you like, but there's really no need. My favorite side was the Cole slaw. Slightly vinegary, a little creamy, dash of celery seed and not sweet. So perfect. I was in town for just a few days and stopped by this place for a bite. It was unreal. Good barbecue is hard to come by in the PNW and this blew my mind. We got the sliced brisket and spare ribs. Holy barbecue!! We did it up at Matt's today. Burnt end pork belly, brisket sandwich, queso mac and cheese, coleslaw and pickled cucumber & red onion. The pork belly was SO decadent, totally worth it. Everything was worth it, but the pork belly was truly a treat, a genius treat. Table next to us had the jalepeno sausages and ribs. They looked amazing. Next time I'm trying all of the sides that I didn't try this time around. Super nice guys running the cart. Order at the kiosk, they text you your order number and call it out when the order is ready. Quick and simple process. Several barbecue sauces you can self-serve yourself. Like most of the food trucks in Portland area, Matt's takes your order via the QR/site that's on their truck. You tell em your name after ordering, and they'll fix your food up without 'too' long of a wait! Coming from California, there isn't a ton of really good barbeque meats in the area. Closest thing we have is Phil's BBQ in San Diego but I wanna say that Matt's definitely compares up there. We had the Brisket and the pork ribs. Brisket quality 5/5, but it's a tad salty. Definitely need to chase the Brisket with one of their sides. Pork Ribs are very good 5/5, amazing smoky flavor and the meat falls right off. Love the fatty bits as well as the cartilage parts! The meats come with a sauce by default (believe it's like a brisket sauce) and it's pretty good on its own. Definitely enjoyed the Chipotle sauce add on. Hog vinegar was OK, has a good vinegar tang if you're into vinegar-based sauces. I don't think there is a dedicated sitting area for Matt's, but I love how easy it was and quick to order the food is. Matt's BBQ serves up some delicious barbecue! With perfectly smoked meats that are tender and flavorful. The brisket is my favorite, it's super soft, and the ribs are seasoned well. The sides, potato salad was ok, but the mac and cheese is very creamy and delicious. I would probably skip the potato salad as I thought it was a bit bland. However I do think the sides that are offered on the menu complement the main dishes perfectly. Oh my goodness the barbecue here is just great. If you go on weekends, you can get their burn ends which are like melting your mouth candy. Otherwise I really like their brisket and their Mac and cheese. These guys are so popular. They have their own ordering kiosk in a food cart pod, which makes things easier but maybe a bit confusing as you tend to want to go up to the window instead of the kiosk that's 10 feet away. There's a lot of tables in the food cart pod as well as alcohol vendors. The beef brisket is good. Ordered a half pound thinking the kids wouldn't want much but they ate most of it. They kept on saying "this is so soft as they ate it." Even my 2 year old wanted more. I also don't go to bbq restaurants for the sides but I ordered mac n cheese and potato salad which were both ok. There is a little kick to the mac but it's fine. They mix up the fatty and lean (dry) when you order even if you specify. I have never witnessed anyone or neither have I ordered lean. I always order moist, fatty, etc.. but I understand they can't just dump it. Definitely going back without the kids and recommending. Price is ok. Solid 4.5. read more

I came across this magnificent taco truck restaurant from my AirBnB hosts' recommendation. He's lived in the area for years and swore by this place, and specifically swore by the GOAT. So naturally, I had to see this through. When I tell you that my mouth could not stop watering with every bite, I mean it. On the GOAT, believe me on that. The meat was so tender, the sauces (I tried every kind they had on the ledge) were so tangy, spicy, and perfect with the flavoring of the meat. The veg was fresh and the service was so fast despite the insane crowd. All the outside seating was swooped by young families, friends, and overall really great community. This is a pretty popular food truck. There were a ton of people waiting for their food when we arrived there. I recommend pre ordering so you save some time. I was pretty amazed how organized their operations were in getting food out to so many people. The food was pretty decent. The only thing was that they gave the fattier pieces of meat for the brisket. I like a good balance of the two so having more of the fat was less desirable. As a massive fan of barbecue and BBQ sauce being one of my favorite substances of all time, I had been frequently wanting to visit so when my friend brought me, I was pretty hyped. I got the ribs and they literally fell of the bone: amazing. The flavor was great, the portion size filled my perfectly and I thought the price was great, especially since meat usually isn't cheap and the sauce and seasonings were fantastic. If you visit, you MUST try the Cherry Chipotle BBQ sauce. I loved it and it no joke elevated the dish, it's awesome.
