Finally got around to trying Matt's! It didn't disappoint. We shared the Stuffed Poblano Pepper appetizer and for entrees I had The Classic Center Cut Fillet and my partner had the 16 oz Dry Aged Cowboy. I love that this place is BYOB and they also offer fresh bread which is hard to resist. The bread came with a Green Apple Balsamic dip which was amazing. It is a bit pricey but everything is very fresh and mostly locally sourced! Overall, this place is good and I definitely will come back. read more

My husband and I have been loyal fans of Matt's Red Rooster Grill since it opened so many years ago. It is probably the mostly popular nice restaurant in the Flemington area and rightly so. My husband particularly likes any grilled meat or seafood here. I am especially fond of the Signature Grilled Romaine Salad and the "ABC appetizer" which is lump crabmeat on a half of a grilled avocado with some chopped bacon. The soups are marvelous too. So delicious! Cindy is our favorite server, but the entire team is great. We always have had a pleasant evening dining here. read more

Dinner on Saturday night was excellent despite the couple having a fight at the table next to us. My husband had the stuffed pork chop for dinner and I had the filet mignon with a blue cheese crust. The side vegetables were perfect, mashed potatoes and a medley of carrots, zucchini , etc.. We were seated promptly for our 7:45 reservation and our wine was opened and water poured right away. The service was very good to go along with the delicious food. This is the best high quality meal you can get in Flemington! My family always comes here to celebrate a special occasion and we are never disappointed. While they do offer a few wines, most people BYOB, which the waiter always brings an ice bucket for. First off, every appetizer I've tried is delicious, but my personal favorite is the A. B. C. - Avacado with bacon and crab. Most appetizers are the perfect size for one person, but can definitely be shared if you're not super hungry. For an entree I usually get the lobster tails, which are grilled to perfection. For dessert I would recommend the creme brûlée or the key lime tart. Both are sweet but not overwhelming. Don't forget to try some of their specials. The most recent one I had was a seafood martini appetizer, which was basically like a seafood ceviche. It was fresh & delicious. Whatever you choose from the menu, you can't go wrong! read more

Matt's remains a unique favorite of ours. The combo of engaged staff, top end meats, and a small cozy room can't be found anywhere else in Hunterdon County. The place is pricey, but that is offset by it being BYOB, so plan ahead and pack the proper wine or beer for what you expect to order. Our preferred seating is at the bar overlooking the grills. Conversation is compromised, but I enjoy watching the way they have everything organized. There are also two rooms upstairs that are available for catered meetings and presentations. We accidentally found this place. We actually thought we had reservations somewhere else and drove an hour to get there ( long story). This could have been a disaster for us but as it turned out we all were pleasantly surprised with what a great restaurant this is. All 4 of us had their 4 course surf and turf special. Everything was delicious from the appetizers, salad, entree, desert. The ambience, service and food presentation were all top notch. BYOB was a great plus for us as well . Our last time there we started with the grilled romaine and tuna tartare, we both had delicious specials for dinner, and we finished with a maple bourbon bread pudding. We have lived in the Flemington area for years but have never managed to go to Matt's Red Rooster Grill despite many recommendations from friends. This is going to change. This was the best meal we have had, start to finish, in a very long time. Everything was right about it. The atmosphere in the restaurant is impeccable, from the cove lighting and paint colors to the little alcove we sat in upstairs. The waiter was knowledgeable and efficient. He had our mouths watering as he described the specials. Because it is BYOB, we had a very good bottle of red zinfandel, brought back from Sonoma this past fall, that didn't break the bank. We started with a scallop appetizer which had a pesto sauce on it and accented with lemon juice and pepper. We wished we hadn't split the appetizer as there were so many other good choices including a New England Seafood Chowder and a Foie Gras, but we wanted to save room for the entree and dessert. (We did finish the pesto by dipping the very fresh and very hot bread they served.) My wife ordered Lobster Tails which were cooked perfectly and finished with a grilled taste. I ordered the Grilled Turbot which was so good it could have been lobster. The vegetables were julienne cut and grilled until they were al dente. They were complemented with wild rice. The main dish had us wanting more. The desserts didn't disappoint. I ordered a Raspberry and Marscarpone Tart, while my wife had a Bread Pudding which featured Vanilla Bean. We both had cappuccino to cap it all off. The waiter asked if we wanted anything else. I asked, "What else could there possibly be?" Even the check was not unreasonable. This will surely supplant our other "go-to" restaurant for special occasions. This place is an absolute gem. Go here for your anniversary, your kid's graduation, or to celebrate a promotion. The entree of filet mignon was good! We were a party of 10. Salads and appetizers were ridiculously overpriced. We brought a birthday cake, and were charged 2.50 for each piece they sliced. They also charged 2.50 to open each bottle of wine. I have never in all my life written a poor review, but was disappointed entirely. read more

My wife and I dined at Matt's on a recent Saturday night and were very happy with our meal. Reservations are definitely recommended as it's a smaller place, we were able to get a table a couple days in advance. We ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and shared a dessert. Portions were a bit larger than we expected and each plate was very good. The service was excellent and every interaction we had with the staff was positive. We found the service to be a bit too efficient for a Saturday night date but we never felt rushed and we do tend to like a slower paced service so it might just be us. AMAZING experience from start to finish! Had a perfect date night at Matt's. The entire staff was so welcoming, courteous and professional. Our waiter took great care of us and was always thinking about my gluten allergy and what dishes were best. He even brought over a basket of warm gf bread! The appetizers were mouthwatering. My boyfriend and I love coming here on special occasions! Although the menu does vary from season to season the food is always delicious. One of our favorite things to order is the abc appetizer made of avocado, bacon and crab, which is surprising because he normally doesn't like to eat seafood at all. The staff has always been super friendly and accommodating as well. While we were there one night we started talking to a group of business individuals from out of state that were waiting for an uber to pick them up and the waitstaff informed them they may have to wait awhile due to the lack of uber drivers located in our area. The staff assured them they could wait as long as they needed for their ride and that once one of their employees even drove someone home who's uber bailed on them. Eventually the uber did arrive, but it was nice to see the staff help inform them and go above and beyond for their customers! read more

Very nice atmosphere. Went on a date, the restaurant was clean and the service was quite good. The place is like an old home that has been converted into a restaurant. Always a nice unique look for a restaurant. The food was pretty good, the place was a little pricey, that's the only reason I didn't give five stars. I don't mind paying extra for my meal if I feel it is truly well worth it. In this case, it fell a little short of my expectations from a value standpoint.
