The greeter was very pleasant and told us our waiter would be Shawn. We waited for a while for Shawn so Taylor became our waitress. Her descriptions of the specials and desserts made it hard to select which one to order becaseu they all sounded delicious. Our food order was excellent. It was my husband's birthday, so a special occasion. They brouhgt out our deserts and his had a candle and Happy Birthday written on the plate. What a unexpected gem this restaurant turned out to be . We had perhaps one of the best meals I've had since we have moved to this area . Kudos to Chef Matt for his fantastic menu and wonderful service . To start with we shared the fire roasted calamari and oysters . Both items were superb in quality of product and presentation . For dinner our table had grilled meats and sea food and absolutely no one was disappointed. The meats were the highest quality we've had in a very long time grilled and seasoned to perfection . The seafood dishes we ordered , crab cakes and risotto were both remarkable in taste , flavor and presentation . What I am most impressed with is chef Matts preparation and simplicity of his dishes . When you procure high quality ingredients you deliver memorable dishes and create a atmosphere for your guest that is worthy of a 5 star review ! Thank you Chef and your staff for a fantastic dinner and we look forward to returning soon . One thing I'd like to put out there though for you ... your brewed ice tea is fantastic but it would be awesome if you had a simple syrup avail for those who like it sweeter . To Yelp readers that have been following my unfortunate dinner at Matt's Red Rooster. A week ago he ruined my wife's and my anniversary. I posted my disgust with the way we were treated and the two terrible cowboy steaks we got that were as tough as shoe leather and tasteless. Have you noticed that Matt has yet to respond after a week? You know some friend or employee has to have told him by now what is happening to his reputation on Yelp. Not a peep from Matt. Do you think he cares? Consider that before you go there the next time. There are other classy steak houses in the Flemington market that serve much better steaks with much better service for significantly less price. read more

As always, Matt's is consistently amazing! This was the first night out for my husband and I since we took on our 15 year old niece (a 5 month hiatus). Matt's is always a great place for steaks, pork, ribs and seafood. I had the soup trio appetizer which featured clam chowder, mushroom soup and an incredible crushed seafood bisque. For my main i had the pork loin and it was amazing! Dessert a wonderful creme brule. Service was also really good. Ill be back! read more

I would sum up this restaurant as underwhelming. Based on all the good reviews, we were expecting great food, but nothing rose above mediocre. I started with the pumpkin ravioli in cream sauce. The ravioli were fine but the cream sauce was veryyyy thick...more like a bechamel than something you'd expect on a delicate ravioli. The result was an incredibly heavy and bland dish. My husband ordered the pork belly and found that some of the pieces had been sous vide too long and were therefore quite mushy. We ordered the bavette steak and the stuffed pork chop for entrees. Both were cooked well, but nothing to write home about. They were both served with average vegetables and mashed potatoes. The best part of the meal was the apple cobbler dessert...but honestly my mom makes much better. The service was fine and the restaurant did have a warm, cosy ambiance that makes it great for a date. But for the steep prices, I wouldn't go back. read more

It was lovely coming back to eat here now that they are doing outdoor dining. Food is exceptionally good it was worth working hard to secure a table (their reservations are gone so fast you need a strategy). The appetizers (tuna, ABC) were soooo good, and crab cakes and scallop entrees were phenomenal. Finishing up with cheesecake was perfect. On top of it the weather last night was great. This is our go to place for a special night out. Over the years we've celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries, job successes and just nice nights out at Matt's. The food, service and overall experience is consistently excellent. We've tried about everything on the menus and enjoy the seasonal changes they make. Just absolutely incredible. We came last week for my mom's birthday and no one in the family has stopped talking about it. The summer menu is wonderful--there is something for everyone-- and the specials that night were even better. We ordered so much stuff to review it all would take a novel but I truly mean it when I say every single thing was impeccably cooked and presented. The wait staff was lovely to us and I never even mentioned that we were celebrating -- this was just how they treated every table. The decor is absolutely adorable: comfy and cosy while still elegant. The place is pricey but every cent is worth it and it's BYOB so why not splurge? My mom was over the moon. Absolutely delicious! The stuffed pork chop was thick and succulent. Mashed potatoes delectable, fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. The sauce was superb. And that was just my meal! Everyone raved about their selections as well... the soup sampler, the tuna appetizer (could have used another dollop of wasabi but still wonderful), steaks, the gelato desserts. An hour away from the house, but would drive two hours for this meal. Perfect service, excellent private room for the four couples. We started with the grilled Caesar Salad, delightfully split between my husband and I. My filet was perfectly presented and cooked as requested -the blue cheese/bacon crust was out of this world! - husband had the freshest scallops I've ever tasted. Service was amazing. Dessert was a delight - many options that were fresh, presented with an artistic flair and worth every calorie. We brought our own wine, but understand that we could have purchased bottles there. Matt's offered a 4 course summer lobster tasting menu for the last week of August. We could not resist! All courses were excellent. Deviled egg was yummy, as was the summer salad with poached lobster and the grilled lobster tails. Lots of lobster but we did not have to do the work! While the melon soup was good, we were happy when the server offered us a chance at a bread pudding as another dessert option. We decided to get one of each, and glad we did. But the leftovers reeked all the way home; I left it outside. My wife had a Griggstown chicken breast that may have been good, but the bottom was grilled black and rock hard. She ate the top. Wife and I went here and were excited to try it since we just moved to the area. Looking for a goto date night spot. Based on all the good reviews we were sure this would be the spot, but to be honest we left feeling quite underwhelmed. Food was avg considering the prices charged and that is not usually a factor for me as long as the food being served backs it up. In this case, however, it unfortunately did not. My ribeye steak was meh and was over cooked. My wife thought her dish was just ok. Not saying we won't ever try again, but not in the near future. The search continues. read more

I just took my mother there for her birthday. I wanted to try this place because it seemed like Chef Matt was the only CIA chef in town. The restaurant setup was very nice including the open kitchen which was very clean and well ventilated. The grilled romaine salad was a wonderful start. The entrees were cooked very accurately with the nice tender lamb coming clean off the bone and the salmon was a perfect medium rare. Our server was very attentive and very knowledgeable.
