While there are several shops and things close to the cruise port, we rented a car at the Kahului airport, maybe a ten minute Uber away. And, as a Maui visitor, we wanted to try local seafood. We found Tails Up Maui in Wailuku on Yelp, and it looked perfect! (It's about ten minutes from town) From the outside, Tails Up Maui doesn't look like much. Step inside, and be greeted by a cute and cozy counter restaurant with about 8-10 tables - still pretty unassuming.... Then, we ordered and got our food- Tails Up Maui has a local catch of the day, and then incorporates it in their entire menu: fish tacos, poke nachos, fish and chips, poke bowls, even a katsu roll. All was very, very good, but our favorite was easily the poke nachos. Definitely recommend checking out Tails Up Maui if you're looking for some local Hawaiian seafood.

Dr Knee did a great job of explaining the possible reasons of my cat's problem ear, discussing options as well. He gave him a steroid shot and had his ears cleaned by the tech. What I really liked about him is he asked to first sit and discuss the issues before pulling my cat out of carrier. So many times at other veterinary places they often do all the talking while the cat is just sitting there on exam table acting nervous! I felt it was a very thorough exam and the pricing is about the same as other veterinarian offices. He was very personable and professional. I am glad to have found a new vet doctor for my cat. The menu photo shows thick pieces of ono, and that's how they've always been served in the past. This time, the fish was paper thin and barely filled the bun. It definitely wasn't worth the price. I politely asked why the ono was so thin, and I was told, "They're sliders, that's why they're thin." I explained that I've ordered these many times before and they've never looked like this, but my concern was dismissed. I understand portions can vary, but this was a drastic difference from what I've received before. Loyal customers notice when quality and portions change. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning.

I hope our paths cross again someday. My 5-star rating is for the volunteers, not necessarily for the business itself. In all honesty, if it weren't for the volunteers, I would not have stayed even one night. I would have felt more comfortable sleeping in my rental car than staying here. Their kindness, friendliness, and effort were the reason I chose to remain. Unfortunately, I also witnessed some very concerning behavior from a staff member named Iven. During my stay, I saw him kick a female staff member hard enough that the impact could be heard, and I also witnessed him headbutt a male staff member who was not doing anything to provoke him. In addition, he pushed me in the head. This behavior was completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Kicking, headbutting, and physically pushing people creates an unsafe environment and should not be tolerated. As for the hostel itself, there were several issues. I found and had to kill a cockroach in my room. When I arrived, there were no blankets on the bed. After asking for one, I was given a blanket intended for a twin-size bed even though I was sleeping on a full-size bed. The business also seems unnecessarily cheap when it comes to basic guest accommodations. Providing properly sized bedding and maintaining clean, pest-free rooms should be standard, not something guests have to request or worry about. The volunteers deserve recognition for their kindness and hard work, but the behavior I witnessed and the condition of the accommodations leave a lot of room for improvement. Management should invest more in both the safety of guests and staff and the overall quality of the facility.

They genuinely create such a welcoming, social atmosphere and make everyone feel included. Huge shoutout to Emily, Toby, and Kate, who were especially amazing and made my stay unforgettable--but honestly the entire team contributes to the magic here. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends, it's the kind of place where you instantly meet people and end up making memories you didn't even plan for. For my first hostel stay, Banana Bungalow set the bar incredibly high, and I can confidently say I'll be coming back the next time I'm on the island. You don't need a reservation for nail trimming or other selection services. They open at 10 AM on Sunday's so it makes it convenient to take my dog in, he loves going to see these guys. I will ask him if he wants to go to the groomer he gets excited. They are very quick but do a good job. On Maui it is not easy finding a good groomer as i have had several over the years and they move or go out of business and I don't like taking my dogs to the big box stores. I prefer to give my money to smaller local business. Every time I go these guys are friendly and always in a cheerful mood and they take good care of my fur baby. I am definitely going to take my baby back for other services. I usually wash him but have considered taking him for a bath or a flea bath as I don't always have as much time on my hands. I highly recommend these folks because they do a good job and are not too expensive. The only thing is I wish they were closer as I live in haiku and it is a drive as they are located in Happy Valley.
