Ice cream sundae with homemade chocolate and caramel sauces and bubu arare

Wow! 5 out of 5 for food, service and atmosphere! Tails Up recently reopened with a more limited menu than before, but it is a must-go!! The fish is so fresh and the preparations are perfect! They make simple and complex dishes stand out. High praise for their locally caught seafood options, tempura preparation, pickled mango coleslaw and house made sauces -- caramel and sweet chili tartar. And locally caught is very literal here -- everything comes from Hawaiian waters, fished on short lines so the fish is truly fresh and the captain who caught my fish was, literally, in the restaurant while I ate. Talk about sea to table! The welcoming staff make the experience so enjoyable -- hospitality overflows at Tails Up. Prices are on par for great seafood (and just great food in general) and the food is worth every penny!

We found out about this place yesterday and decided to have lunch here because we were close by. It's small inside but a lot of people order to go. The seating and the table inside is wood and very comfortable. There is also outdoor seating available. You walk up to order and they bring it to your table. It's a friendly atmosphere not just from the workers but also the customers. Our order came out quickly and everything was so delicious and fresh! We didn't order dessert but it looked so yummy. Next time we will order dessert to go!

A gentlemen on our flight from Honolulu to Maui recommended we try this little hole in the wall and I took him up on his suggestion since he was a local, and I know local know what's best... Our food was so fresh and tasty and everybody went above and beyond with their customer service and they were so friendly. I took pictures of everything except our actual food since I was starving at that point.. On our next visit to Maui, we will for sure stop by again to try more items off of their menu...

Tails Up is OPEN starting Jan 26. Open Friday thru Sunday 11-2. THE BEST tuna salad I have EVER eaten. Fresh and flavorful!! Nice meeting Kevin, Liz and Chimo!

Stoked I finally made it into Tails Up! The fish tacos were delicious, I tried one of each preparation, and I'm not sure which one I liked the most - they were all so good! The Mac salad is not your usual Mac salad, has a lot of dill in it, but it was good. The ginger miso slaw was unlike anything I've had before, it was definitely tasty, but I think I will try the green mango slaw next time. I was also super happy they had Hawaiian chili pepper water! The staff and service were exceptional and I can't wait to go back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining in at this hidden gem. The food was absolutely incredible. Local friendly staff took care of our party the entire stay. The pork belly on special was so Ono! The sitting space in the restaurant can get a bit tight on a busy hour and I felt I was in good hands the entire time. The Kamikaze fries, fish sandwich, and captains plate come recommended. The Lilikoi lemonade hit the right spot. Highly recommend this spot to everyone, locals and tourists. 5 Stars! Note: parking is behind the building. GF Gluten Free options available.

This is the spot!!! We had fish tacos 10/10 recommend! Poke with marlin fish was soo amazing! Kids fish and chips was a pretty generous size. Our child didn't eat the fish and we split it. It was so good! The atmosphere is very nice. I loved the wooden carved tables. This is a small place with just a few tables. I adored the table plants and wooden decor. It looks very beautiful and tranquil. However 1 minus I would love to have a high chair. We kept our little guy in the stroller but I noticed 3 more families with small kids walked in after us and they had to keep their kids on their laps. As a parent it's very hard to enjoy this delightful food having your hands and laps full.

Cannot say enough good things about Tails Up Maui. Small, locally owned collaboration between one of Maui's best chefs and best fishermen. Fresh, imaginative fare with enough tried and true staples to make everyone happy. Poke bowls, sashimi platters, fish tacos, sandwiches and delicious desserts fill the menu. Specials rock too. Staff is well trained, professional and pleasant. The interior is beautiful. Custom wood work and comfy seating should you decide to dine in. Take out is super easy too.

    Kraken Salad Tako

Parking in the rear and also out front along street Came in for a late lunch first impression was a lot to absorb in the menu. After a few minutes standing at the counter figuring things out we chose the Miso Bowl and the Kraken Salad. Seat yourself inside or outside but can be hot and noisy. Both excellent choices the Tako in the Kraken was cooked/smoked perfectly. The Miso Bowl I chose Ahi and Tako good but maybe try another prep next time. Big portion $25. Bumped the neighborhood food options up, Mahalo.. Sad to see them go already..

    Ahi Katsu

I've been waiting to try Tails Up Maui as I seen many posts on social media of their fresh fish. They are located along Waiehu Beach Road and there is an open parking lot in the back of the restaurant for parking. You order at the counter then find an open table to sit at. We went around lunch time on a Sunday and there were open seats available. We tried the Ahi Katsu and Fish Sandwich (fish of the day was mahi mahi). Keep in mind the prices are on the higher side but that is to be expected for quality fresh fish. The Ahi Katsu was cooked perfectly which was seared in the inside with a crispy panko/exterior on the outside. There was a delicious sweet wasabi type sauce which went well with the Ahi. Also tried the mahi mahi fish sandwich which was one of the best fish sandwiches I had that I can remember. The fish was so fresh and tender with a beer or vodka batter (forgot what type was used) but it was good! The bread/bun that was used on the fish was so soft. The staff were also very friendly. Tails Up is a gem in the Wailuku / Waiehu area and I can't wait to come back again.

The best blackened mahi ever! So fresh and the flavors are on point. This kale and quinoa salad is fantastic! My favorite

Fantastic!!!! My new favorite spot to eat on Maui! The food is INCREDIBLE! They serve fresh fish and the mix of flavors are amazing. It's also BYOB:) They also have other items besides fish. You must try the quinoa and kale salad and blackened mahi! Seriously the best I ever had! Even their French fries are perfect. Not only is the food seriously delicious, the location is great, there's plenty parking, and this restaurant inside is so beautiful! Let's talk about the service! It is awesome!!! Everyone in there takes pride in their job and they genuinely enjoy serving you! The employees here are so friendly, so helpful, honest and enjoy making your experience there a good one! This is the kind of local establishment that I love to support! I can't wait to eat here again and I just left! Maui go try it out!

    Tuna katsu and kale salad

Phenomenal food and amazing service. I had wanted to try this the first go around and am thrilled they are up and running again. Small, but beautiful space. I will be back again and again.

    Crispy Ahi Burger!! "Ahimazzing!"

Oh my oh my!! I am so impressed with this new restaurant in Wailuku (really Paukukalo)! We had the Crispy Ahi Burger (many thanks to Isaac) and it was AAAHHMMAAAZING! No it was AHIaaammmzing!! We also had the Nom-yum Seafood Soup (thank you Isaac!) and it helped me feel so much better as it was silky and flavorful with excellently cooked shrimp! The interior of the restaurant was clean and fresh and modern! It was so warm and welcoming! Customer service is fantastic! We'll be back / not just because we live down the road and it's super convenient but because this is a new and wonderful place to eat and hang out! We love our local businesses and Ohana!

Amigo's is my go to if I want some yummy Mexican Food and they've been serving the Maui community…read morefor years. They have an all day Breakfast Menu and probably still the only Mexican restaurant that offers Complimentary Chips and Salsa which is a plus. They have a Kihei location near my home but this Kahului location is where I usually frequent after work and they offer great daily specials throughout the week. I usually will get myself a refreshing glass of Horchata. This Cinnamon Rice Drink goes perfect with any Mexican dish to relieve that spice. I will most likely stick to a top 5- Ala Carte Taco (if you visit on Mondays, Tacos are $3.95!), Chicken Tortilla Soup, Caldo De Res (not pictured- Mexican Beef Soup with Potatoes and Carrots), Chicken Quesadilla with sour cream and guacamole on the side and Chorizo Con Huevos (Mexican Pork Sausage with Eggs). I have friends that are Regulars here and they usually get their Birria Tacos or Burritos and they love it! Unfortunately I got Chorizo Con Huevos on this last meal and the Chorizo & Eggs was very over done. (I should've said something but I was hungry). But the plate does come with your choice of Flour or Corn Tortillas and the most fluffiest Rice and Creamy Beans. I rated a 4 because mostly everything else I've ordered has been great and the service is always good even when they're pretty busy. The chips and salsa satisfy and help the busy waiting period go faster and you can always ask for a salsa refill.

When I initially called about the big black hair in my food it was dark and dinner time I just fed my kids the food for dinner. They told me they would give me a full refund when I called the night before but as of today because I didn't bring the food back immediately when I got there they chose to treat me like Im an asshole for wanting my money back and said they'll give me 4.50 cuz it was in the rice. I threw the food out after I took the picture and made my own food. Im the sole parent of two small children so I communicated that I couldn't make it back that night. Not I wouldn't, I couldn't because bedtime routine and school is important. They never communicated that I will not be refunded the same if I didn't come back immediately. There's no way they are taking proper health precautions if there was a hair deep in the rice and if they are then it was intentionally put in my food. I wasn't rude or upset to begin with. They made me wait outside for like ten minutes while the front desk girl went to talk to someone and saw the bartender laughing about it and everyone looking at me and talking. You could have made a happy customer and just taken accountability or offer me a drink or a voucher or something but you chose to be disrespectful and offer me 4.50 so yeah I got upset and asked to speak to the manager cuz that's wrong and she lied and said they weren't in after just telling me they were. As the sole parent i dont get to make a lot of money on my own to eat out and that was supposed to be a special thing for us, and your lack of hospitality was a horrible experience for me and I didn't get to eat the food I bought. It's the principle. I've worked in customer service for years and what you did wasn't right. Your manager refused to speak to me and made the front desk girl lie to avoid the issue and made her handle it. I mentioned the health department because how would a hair get in there if you take all proper health precautions? And I said how do I know you are all washing your hands, wearing gloves, and hairnets when there's a hair in the food? Front desk girl then said the manager can hear everything from the camera yet still refused to handle it themselves so no you don't take care of your employees or stand behind them, you let her deal with the angry customer alone while you watched from your desk. Valid crash out on my part.

No worries; it's worth waiting for. She gave me a pager, and we watched the chickens while we waited for our 4 soft birria tacos. As always, it was worth the wait. Let's start by saying, they pulled into the pole position of my most delectable Mexican food bite and place in Hawaii (albeit only had on Oahu and Maii, lol). My order: Chorizo Burrito Bowl and maaayynnn Thai thing was loaded. Starts with a layer of rice, beans, chorizo, green and red cabbage, pico de gallo, avacado, topped with chipotle aioli. Then on the side is a lime, pickled carrots, jalapeño, radish, and I chose spicy salsa. The bowl is huge,, and i stuffed my face and finished every bite haha; it goes to say hot great it was. The rice and beans are a perfect layer of goodness, the crunch from the fresh veggies, that smoky and spicy (light) of the chorizo, richness of that avacado, and finished off with that nice creamy aioli. Then I hit it with the kick or the lime and extra spice of the salsa. I'm in heaven. Oh then add side tart, tangy, and crunchy bites of the pickled veg. Waaaaawhoooo was my tummy happy. I'd like to say, I want to come back and all their other options such as their soft and questo tacos or biria. However as I am not in Maui much, probably going back for my home run. Hopefully next time someone else is with me so I can try their choices haha. The staff were friendly and food came out in good time. They are located on the back side of the food truck area, so don't pass them by if you just jump into the main area. Definitely recommend them for all who havent.

Their big blue truck can't be missed as they are located right on the corner. They serve up a handful of Mexican favorites from tacos to burritos, quesadillas, menudo, and even a taco salad. What piqued my interest was one of their specialty items that was marked available on Saturdays and Sundays only -- their birria ramen. No one has this available on their menu regularly (that I know of) so if you've been wanting to try it... this is the spot. When I stopped by the food truck lot again for lunch, I was happy to see that it was actually one of their specials that was available so I didn't have to wait for the weekend. It didn't have a price on it on the specials board so I was a little shocked when my total came out to $19. (Their regular menu says $12, so not sure if it was served differently that day?). My order came out quickly and I was happy to see that it came with limes and 3 tortillas. It reminded me of how my birria taco order came when I was in LA. One bite and I must say it was pretty tasty. The broth had good flavor and the meat was very tender. Don't forget to squeeze in the limes for an extra hit of flavor; it makes all the difference! While it tasted good, I could have honestly done without the ramen. I would rather eat it all as just a soup, haha! Overall though, I enjoyed it and am glad I finally got to try it. The price was a little on the steep end, so it won't be something I have regularly. My coworkers who got their crispy tacos enjoyed their meal as well. The family that owns is truck is from Jalisco, Mexico so I definitely look forward to exploring the menu more and tasting some authentic Mexican flavors and food. Parking is available on the Kahului Library side and a really nice covered eating area with ample tables and seating is available. Some evenings they even do karaoke at the food truck lot.
