This place was massively disappointing. My husband booked the Mother's Day brunch for a little over a week ago. We made a reservation for 9:30 under the link for the special brunch and my husband even called to make sure they could accommodate our toddler in our reservation. No mention was made during the call that the brunch didn't actually start until 11:30. We got there and were seated. It took a while for a server to come over and even acknowledge us despite the place being pretty empty. I got up to get my toddler some food at the buffet and saw it was barely half full and none of the items advertised for the Mother's Day brunch were there. When we asked our waiter about this, he said the brunch didn't start for 2 hours and they were only doing regular breakfast. This was extremely disappointing since I was looking forward to the special brunch to celebrate my day. We ended up leaving because we didn't want to wait 2 hours for the brunch to start and the breakfast buffet was not appealing. Their customer service reached out to apologize and invite us back...and then totally ghosted us when we asked a question. Ulana is the all day dining option at the Ritz in Kapalua. I ate here twice bc a bfast buffet was included with the room. The buffet included your standard made to order omelettes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, smoked salmon w/ bagels, et al. In addition, there was a lot of firm, fresh fruit. Papaya at most buffets tends to be mushy. However, what was noticeably missing was Azn items like miso soup, rice and passable dumplings. The dumplings and har gow I ate were pretty bad. They had no flavor. The ambiance was very nice w/ a view of the pool and beach. Normally I would rate Ulana 3-4 Stars bc the food was good, not great. However, the service fr Amy was so outstanding I am going to rate 5 Stars. From her greeting of Aloha kakahiaka (good morning), to her attentiveness, and overall niceness, she made me feel at home. Lorrie at the front desk was also super nice, and remembered our names when we checked in on the second day. Amazing brunch experience! The macadamia nut banana pancakes with coconut syrup were absolutely incredible, and the POG mimosa was the perfect tropical touch. My husband chose the buffet and said it was just as amazing with plenty of great options. The ocean view made it even better--we were lucky enough to watch whales breaching while we ate! My husband and I ate at Ulana Terrace twice while on our vacation. We ordered off of the menu for the first day as the buffet was closed, the banana macadamia pancakes were very good and the loco moco was decent. We did the buffet the next day and I think it's pretty good for the price, I think it was $58 pp. They had a variety of different options which covered all dietary needs. Ah, the Ritz. Get there early to get a prime seat by the window, for a view of the ocean and whales breaching (we were there in early February). Ask for lilikoi butter and spread it on everything. Nice selection of baked goods, hot items, fruit (fresh papayas!!), avocado toast, charcuterie, juice, salad, lox and bagels. On the smaller side for selections, but quality. We tried the $48 AYCE buffet option at the restaurant. This brunch spot is located within Ritz Carlton hotel, facing the beautiful swimming pool and ocean. We had a nice window view from our table. There are three main areas, 1) hot brunch section (fresh catch of the day, Cha Shao bao, fried rice, grilled vegetables, and egg benedict); 2) your complimentary breakfast section (scrambled egg, sausage, potatoes etc); 3) make your own omelette section What I liked about this brunch spot was mainly because of the various fruit options. The sliced papaya was really good, extremely sweet. The watermelon was okay. There's also pineapple, black berries, strawberries, and yogurt. You can also get coffee, oatmeal, toasted bread, and make your own salad with smoked salmon. I recommend to come here to try the brunch if you are staying at the Ritz Carlton hotel just for the convenience. I really liked the fruit section, especially papaya and the egg benedict. You can order a la carte, but honestly we couldn't decide what one item to try so the buffet was the best option! The avocado toast was out of this world, I tried the fresh veggie one and honestly I'm shocked I got a photo bc I ate it so fast. The chia parfait was both sweet and fresh at the same time! Omelet station, fresh catch of the day, mini dim sum, and Hawaiian fried rice are some of my favorites. Fresh local papayas and pineapples to finish off the meal is a must. This place has been hit hard by COVID. My understanding is that they normally have a very nice buffet. Due to covid, the main buffet area is closed. Items are limited. If vegetarian or vegan, this is definitely not worth the $50 a person price tag. Service, although nice, was very slow and items came out of kitchen erratically. So, how could I not try this during my 10-night stay at the Ritz on Kapalua, just a few months ago in October? Actually, I ended up indulging here twice for the beautiful views and of course, for their fantastic Famous Banana Bread. ***FOOD & SETTING*** The contemporary modern setting and spectacular views to match, along with the convenience is​​ why I'd recommend dining here. The food is tastefully presented and good overall. That said, it's not exactly 5-star stellar for $42/pp, or over $50.00/pp with tip and tax for essentially a breakfast. The standard breakfast fare, the tropical fruit spread,​ and the desserts were good. It's a mix of hits and misses. I'd definitely pass on the Asian noodles. However, the star of the show for me was their Famous Bread. It was partly the reason why I came a second time. Think of the best banana bread you've had, and multiply that by 5 times in greatness. Yes, it was THAT amazing! It was so incredibly moist and banana scented and flavored. ***DISAPPOINTING SERVICE*** Service is spotty. I had wonderful friendly servers on both visits, but the folks working the food stations just didn't seem like they were there to please their customers. Also, about a half-hour,​​ before they closed, they "ran out" of their Famous Banana Bread. I came here the second time largely just for this! The kitchen staff insisted they were out and brushed me off. ​ Where there's a will, there's a way though, and I KNEW there was a way they could track at least one piece down! I'm a pretty persistent gal who doesn't give up, and after speaking with four different workers, I suggested to my waiter that he snag a slice from the cafe downstairs. He kindly returned with three slices of their delicious Famous Banana Bread. Whew! I was definitely​ very appreciative. Yet, a customer shouldn't need to go through multiple hoops for a slice of banana bread ​and left feeling as if they've imposed themselves, especially when they're paying good money for the buffet and forking over even more $$$$$ to stay at a Ritz property. I've experienced much better service at other hotel restaurants​ of this caliber and have received much better service at restaurants while staying at other Ritz properties. The Ulana is only open for breakfast. They close at 10:30am on the weekdays and 11 am​ on the weekends, so the early bird gets the worm. You can opt to go the a la carte route, but by spending just a little more, you have access to the entire buffet selection. Although I came twice during my stay, in retrospect, I'd definitely return, but only if I was staying on the ​property again. If you do come, I'd say to definitely do the buffet, and don't miss out on their Famous Banana Bread! read more

Ulana has an excellent virtual buffet operation. The real Ulana was under development, however the temporary location was excellent on the golf course with an amazing view. You choose your items on a paper menu and all food is served family style. The variety and flavor were both excellent. I really enjoyed the daily special of shrimp fried rice. The omelets were made to order and tasty, and the meat and starch portions were very hearty. Service was friendly and prompt as expected at Ritz Carlton. BREAKFAST This is a follow up review, as I was there about a year ago for their breakfast buffet. The last time we were there, they were unable to serve their $34 Eggs Benedict due to being short on staff. Today I ordered it and it was delicious. I also appreciated their hash brown patties. My buddy ordered their Coconut French Toast ($25). It came with Fresh Li Hing Mui Pineapple, and also Lilikoi Curd. He chose Turkey Bacon for his side. I was happy they let me order a shot of vodka for only $5 and was able to help myself to their buffet for their bloody mary fixings without ordered a buffet. I even double checked to make sure I understood correctly. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of their bloody mary. It had a different flavor that I cannot pinpoint. They gave us 20% Kama'aina discount on food and drink, which is great. This helps people who live on the island to be able to appreciate nice restaurants like this one. This buffet is our favorite on island. Our group of 9 can all be accommodated from toddlers to adults and all diets from gluten free, vegan and picky eaters. There is everything. A fresh omelette station (which I recommend over the pre prepped eggs, even if you get it plain), a smorgasbord of fruits, fresh pastries and breads, all the fixings for a grand slam breakfast and even chia pudding. Bread station with the works as well as a gluten free bread options separate from the gluten. We love most that there is fresh celery juice so we can keep up on our juicing when we stay. We're apart of the Elites and have stayed in many Marriot properties around the world. We love the Ritz breakfast. All in all this is a AAA Five Diamond Resort, so know you will be paying about $42 a person. If you want something cheaper go off property but you can't beat the food and view. The price is reasonable for what you're getting at the Ritz. It can get crowded during holidays as expected but the best time to go would be 7am to beat the rush. On holidays there are special areas for the kids with super cute and festive tasty treats even the adults can indulge in. We live on island and frequent this buffet often. For as expensive and convenient it is I was expecting a lot more. It's about $46 an adult for the buffet. I'm personally not a fan of buffets it was what you'd expect of any hotel food not really the "ritz" brand - we were staying here so it was nice and close but would I go back ? No. There's some options if you're a bariatric Patient / keto / paleo / gf. But as a bariatric patient I don't want to pay buffet prices for 1-2oz of food I can consume. Also be careful if you have a nut allergy. My daughter asked for yogurt with honey and berries and they brought it worn a nut granola luckily we noticed before she dug in- but they did bring us another option. Convenience factor 10/10 food 5/10 ambiance 5/10. The view would be beautiful but the back is under construction. I wish we knew that before we booked. read more

Our neighboring hotel has a great breakfast but no buffet.....so one day we were definitely in a buffet mood, atmosphere was definitely on par (view was stunning) we were there a little late and there wasn't a lot of people there, one server manning the omelette station so they came out quick. I hope they have more than one person when they fill up. My veggie omelette was a little too done for my taste but I didn't say anything. Great pastry and bread area and of course the hot buffet basics. They also have a large Asian section not surprising in HI. Coffee and juice was very fresh. Went there for the Buffett but it wasn't open. Couldn't get a reason but was told it would be back open tomorrow (Monday). Why not close it Monday - Tuesday and not Saturday and Sunday? Ulana has one of the most extensive brunch buffets I've ever seen. There's a made-to-order omelette station (which is just ok), a variety of fun and beautifully presented baked goods, from more traditional croissants and waffles to more fun things like melon pineapple buns, a spin on the Cantonese classic bun, a variety of fresh fruit, the usual American staples of bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, a nice granola yoghurt bar with dried fruit and nuts, which also has chia pudding and quinoa, some really fun fruit juice concoctions, including a really balanced celery, spinach, apple green juice, and my all-time favorite: the crab and asparagus strata (little egg and bread buns). The service was attentive and friendly. My only suggestion would for them to space the food out a bit so that the lines aren't overlapping quite so much. read more
