This was my first time visiting this restaurant. The ambiance was great and I was surprised that it wasn't too busy on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the Maverick classic burger with American cheese and a side salad. It tasted fresh and I finished all my food since I was pretty hungry. Like two hours later my stomach felt really sick like my intestines were twisting inside of me. The pain was excruciating and lasted for a couple of hours and all I could think of was maybe I got "food poisoning." Most likely the food poisoning came from the bad ground beef or cheese. Unfortunately, since it was my first time and the experience I received, I will not be returning to this restaurant. First impression is everything and this place didn't meet that expectation! I went to the Burlingame location last week, and a friend ordered the chicken club sandwich. It looked amazing, thick slices of tomato, with a thick slice of chicken, a generous avocado spread/mash, and bacon. She couldn't finish it because of how big it was. I went to the San Mateo location and ordered the chicken club sandwich, and asked for it lettuce wrapped. I was given a chicken breast with melted cheese, bacon, and lettuce. That was it. Oh, and a side of the spread. I asked to confirm there should be tomatoes and avocado, and the server apologized and brought a couple slices of tomato. I asked for avocado, and he asked if it was already in the sandwich. I took off the top piece of lettuce and lifted the chicken so he could see that, no, it was literally just the chicken, cheese, bacon, and lettuce. He apologized and brought a plate of sliced avocado, and said he'd discount my bill by $5 because I "had to deconstruct my sandwich". He also said he would "yell at the cook", but he went back there to chide the guy in Spanish, and then invalidating it by laughing about it. If you want the chicken club, go to the Burlingame location. If you want a piece of chicken with melted cheese, bacon, and lettuce, and want to ask for the rest of the club and build it yourself, go here. read more

Craving for Jack's prime but it was closed, walked into Maverick Jack's because noticed in the photos there's a picture of Jack's Prime. Walked in with friendly staff welcoming but a sad broken Toy Story woody on the counter. Inside is bright, open kitchen. We were seated right away on Friday night. Ordered peach milkshake on the special menu. It's ok but a bit sad because it's not peachy enough it will be better if there small bites of peaches. Good thing is it's not too sweet. Burgers we got beermeister with tater totes and outlaw. There are four kitchen staffs but we still had to wait a while. At least I finish my 1st cup of milk shake. beermeister has 2 fried pickles and mushrooms but the mustard over powered the whole burger everything taste like mustard. Outlaw is also just ok. Not very excited for the burgers. It's expensive $22 each burger and tater tots $3 and there is a 2.7% surcharge for using credit card??? read more

7/26/25 Zach was craving a burger for lunch so we went to get one at Maverick Jack's. It's on El Camino so we found parking in their parking lot which has pretty tight spaces. The restaurant was somewhat busy when we got there. We waited for a few minutes before the host came by and told us we have our pick of tables. Menus were already on the table when we sat down. Here's what we got: - Soprano chicken with salad (mine) - Outlaw burger with onion rings (his) The burgers were pretty tasty. My chicken burger wasn't dry and the salad that accompanied it was refreshing. Zach said he liked his burger and the onion rings. Service wasn't that memorable, no one checked in on us except towards the end when we asked to check out. It was fine since we noticed that more customers were coming in. I am pretty picky about burgers and see good reviews for this spot so hubby got us some burgers, fries a d some fried pickles, becuase who doesn't love fried pickles?! While everything was fine, the food was really salty across the board. Nothing was terrible, but the salt kind of overpowered everything else, which made it hard to enjoy the flavors. It was a cloudy Tuesday afternoon when my partner and I realized we craved a burger. Thus, we made our way out to Maverick Jack's. Because the restaurant was pretty much empty at noon, I was a little worried about whether it would be any good, but it ended up being great. Our server was Riccardo, and based on his recommendations we ordered the Runaway Freight, Irish Nacho Fries, and a coke float. Everything we tried was delicious. The burger was nice and juicy, but a little too sweet. The fries were delicious, but the melted cheese on top just ends up cooling into a hard layer. Something like a cheese sauce would make a lot more sense in this way. The coke float was also great, but needed a larger soda to soft serve ratio. Overall though I really enjoyed my time here, even if there are little things that could be improved recipe wise. read more

From good to bad to worst. It was great when they first opened. Than slowly decline. A few months back, they "ran out" of onion ring and suddenly say they have some. We placed two orders and when they came, it appears to split one into two and it was burnt. Than the following two visits, the burger was over cooked and dry. Today, we decided to give it another try, stood there for 10 minutes, watch someone setting a table, two workers, just chatting with each other by the register and the cook looking at us wondering. Runaway Freight and May special that had pico de gallo and avocado. Their runaway freight had a touch of sweetness and their mushrooms were still juicy. I wouldn't mind getting this again. I liked this better than their May special. Their special didn't have much pico de gallo but I did appreciate the hefty amount of avocado. First time eating here in their new location and new name. Formerly known as Jack's Prime. Very nice and spacious restaurant, with ample parking. The food was tasty. I had the $15 lunch special, a classic hamburger with cheddar cheese, bacon, fries, and a root beer float. My cousin had the Runaway Freight, a burger with Cheddar cheese, bourbon-glazed mushrooms, crispy onion strings, and Maverick's Burger Sauce. This was my first visit to the new location. It feels much more spacious and has moreso of a diner feel to it now. The food seems to be the same. I am by no means a burger connoisseur, but the kids wanted to eat here so we obliged. The Hubs and I shared a mocha chip shake while the kids each ordered a cookies & cream shake and a mint & cookies shake. The shakes were tasty, albeit a lil' on the thin side. The adult size was perfect for sharing! As for the food, my youngest ordered two sliders from the kids' menu, while my oldest had a classic cheeseburger. The Hubs consumed a turkey burger and subbed for parmesan garlic fries, while I indulged in the Runaway Freight (cheddar cheese, bourbon glazed mushrooms, crispy onion strings, Maverick's burger sauce). I liked that I was able to sub for pepper jack, a wheat bun and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were very good and went really with the ranch sauce that was provided. My burger was perfectly cooked at medium, but my kids' cheeseburger was more medium rare even though they ordered it medium. The burgers were juicy and seasoned well enough that they really didn't need any ketchup. I wished my burger had more mushrooms and crispy onion strings as I could barely see or taste them. Everyone enjoyed their food though and polished off their burgers! Overall, I'd give Maverick Jack's 3.5 stars (rounding up to 4). The meal was fine as was the service, but its a bit overpriced in my opinion. For the same price, I'd much rather dine elsewhere, but I'm sure we'll be back since the kids love it here! read more

I stopped by with two friends and we absolutely loved our experience. I ordered the Pesto Chicken Sandwich with fries and my friends each got a burger with tater tots and garlic fries. Everything we had was really good, served hot and fresh, and full of flavor. The portions were generous and the food felt homemade and satisfying. For dessert, we decided to get sundaes and they were excellent with a really nice amount of toppings that made them even more enjoyable. I believe the portion of the fries should be a little bigger and the hamburgers should be a little bigger, especially for the price. $20+ I feel the price is too much. The food was just OK. I would put it in the ballpark of bowling alley food which is just meh the milkshakes though were on fire and on point. Which bumped the score up to four stars total the milkshake saved the entire meal. Great place to enjoy a burger but keep an eye on your tab, you might get charged for an "upgraded" bun. I've been excited to try this burger spot on El Camino because we've always walked past it but have yet to step inside. Good parking options since it is connected to the motel there. Finally stopped by this past Tuesday and we had a great experience except for finding out later that they charged me extra for a "gluten-free burger bun" at $3 which I never requested or approved. I was under the impression that a burger typically came with a bun, not get charged additional for the bun. My friend was charged for his bun but it made sense since he went the protein only route, so no surprises there. I emailed their customer service and as of today, still no response. I did, however, request an upgrade to the Sweet Potato French Fries and my friend ordered the tots, both deep fried in beef tallow. They advertise this on their menu, as it does add more oomph and umami to the starchy yumminess. Interior is a modern 50's redux, which is in alignment with the diner-esque feel that I like of any/all eating establishments (Original Joes has done a great job of that in Daly City). There was also a live entertainer onsite at the time, juggling, telling funny stories, engaging the gaggle of kids that were across the way to keep them occupied. We sat near the windows because it gives perspective while waiting for your food, as well as observe the speeders and whack drivers on that busy road. Burger was actually really good, slightly more on the medium well (I ordered medium rare) but very juicy and I ended up eating the entire thing! We may come back, but a $26 burger before taxes ($30 after tax - $3 for bun, $2.50 for upgraded french fries and tip) will prompt going to a cheaper option that won't charge extra for a bun and my patty could be 1/2 lb instead of 1/3lb. At least ask me if I approve the upcharge prior to charging me, geesh. Total tab for two people after tax + tip = $64.32 so on the pricier end. In the meantime, I'll see if they ever respond ;-) read more

We like hamburgers cooked the way the used to be hot, a little greasy, on a warm toasted bun with hot French fries. We were disappointed, lacked presentation seemed like it was just thrown together. This burger joint is the best in the area. The staff is amazing. They are fast and friendly. The fries are currently fried in beef talo. This is a trial as that have put it on their menu. The burgers and sandos are exelcellenr. Perfectly cooked and fried. The milkshakes are excellent. Real old fashioned shakes with ice cream. They recently moved to the diner location at the villa hotel. Thus location offers an open kitchen. My friend asked for no cheese on her sando and they delivered cheese on it. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a burger place to host a large party. We made reservations with the manager over the phone for our party of 17 and told us their private room was booked but that they'd reserve a section for our party. We arrived and were seated quickly. Our server was attentive, friendly and got our orders correct. The manager made it a point to come out and greet our party, asking if everything was ok. Food options were great for our group of kids and adults. Burgers were nice and moist but not greasy. Ambience was comfy with the tall windows and light coming in. The burgers, fries, and salad were enjoyable, though the burger patties seemed smaller than I remembered. I chose a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, but it consisted of only a couple of small lettuce pieces on top, which made me ineligible for the $15 deal--a bit disappointing. The restaurant was quiet, matching the low-key vibe of our lunch. Despite these hiccups, given that my children are fans of Jack's Prime and Maverick Jack's does a commendable job of emulating it, we're likely to return with the rest of the family.
