Mount tires correctly when they are directional, don't scratch the rims with the equipment, tighten the lug nuts more than finger tight on an entire wheel, offer financial compensation for screwing up and requiring a return visit to take the tires off the rim and remount. My 2006 civic was pulling to the right so badly that I was afraid that my son who was visiting us with the car woul get into a an accident! He didn't understand how dangerous it was and so without speaking to him I took to Mavis in Fair Lawn where I live. It was Sunday and near closing time but they took me and checked it out. They told me that it needed tie rod ends and that they were problem for why it was pulling and that it would need alignment too! I made another appointment the next day to replace them and do the alignment as well. I brought the car at 11 am and even though they said it would be 1 hour and half we didn't get the car back until 4:30. Now just before picking up the car they call and said ...not so fast you need two new tires for the front...these are almost bald on the inside tread. Do you want me to throw two on? It would be another 100 bucks. I didn't want to just throw on two cheap tires ...and left thinking the car wouldn't pull as much anymore but it was still pulling hard to the right. I payed 638.56 for a car that was still pulling hard to the right. They had the tires off twice and no one noticed they were bald? This is a tire place ...right? They specialize in tires and so I order the right tires and had them put them on today. Now they put the new tires on and charged me 305.77 with some discount thrown in from the manager. I believe that I should have not payed for any thing else but the tires after all this running around and my bill should be 243.98. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change and tire rotation at 1:30 pm. I was dealing with Steve who always goes above and beyond. I saw they were super busy so I said I'll leave the car for the day no problem. I call at around 4 pm for an update and was told by whoever answered the phone that they are finishing up to come now. I get there (Steve is gone at this point unfortunately) and my car isn't done which I was okay with but I went to pay and I hear them discussing the bmw that came in for an oil change and tire rotation is missing a lug nut. I said what's going on with my car? I was rudely scolded by whoever was at the desk. The guy says we have 3 bmws here how do I know which one it is. Understandable but my bmw that is here is getting those exact two services right now so can you please find out..... This guy has me standing at the front for a good 15 minutes with an irritable toddler not letting me know if it's my car or even allowing me to pay. Even one of the other workers was like this lady is standing here waiting to pay. Eventually I address the rude guy again and tell him well I do have pictures of all the wheels because I had issues at a different Mavis so now I make sure to take pictures prior and I can assure you all the lug nuts are there. The guy proceeds to tell me that it was rusted so he threw it away but when I first came in he didn't know which bmw it was....He also says if he knew earlier he would have just ordered a new one because it's only $8. So you threw it away because it was rusted but you just found that out now I thought you were the one who threw it away? Definitely a bunch of lies. This wasn't even the case though, they lost the oem lug nut. At this point I am over it just replace the lug nut and let me go home it's now 5 pm. They put an aftermarket lug nut on my car and I proceed to drive less than half a mile to the Dave and busters parking lot right behind the Mavis. I get out of my car to look at the wheel again because I am just so angry and the replacement lug nut is already missing. I call to let them know I'm coming back and they need to figure this out. Once I get there, all of the workers come up with the bright idea of taking one of the oem lug nuts from the other bmw, the gray 750i license plate KMT4677, that was sitting there for service. We questioned them on this because that is totally not cool and got told that bmw has extras... I was very angry at this whole situation and said this is why I only like my car being here when Steve is here because I don't have these problems. One of the guys proceeds to tell me he doesn't go "eye to eye" with Steve and Steve doesn't know anything about cars. Very shameful to talk about your own co worker to a customer. I was also told all these guys have 45+ years of experience when the idiots working on my car weren't even 25. After another painful 20 minutes of watching all of the staff scramble to figure out what they're going to do, they pull my car out and say it's fixed. I asked why they couldn't just put the correct one on to begin with? A different rude staff member told me "because I didn't have your car". On May 20th, I called Mavis about replacing brakes and rotors on my 2023 Porsche Macan. Jay initially quoted $600 for Memorial Day, then revised it to $1395 for special parts. I arrived on May 28th, and they confirmed all four brakes and rotors needed replacing, with the price now $1595. On May 30th, I showed up at 11:30 AM, expecting the service to take one hour, but Steve told me it would be several hours, with a 2:30 PM completion time. At noon, Steve called to say the total was $1900. I questioned the discrepancy, as we agreed on $1595. He claimed Jay made an error and that corporate approved the new total, but I could pay later. At 2:30 PM, I noticed the mechanic talking with Steve and another employee, and when I asked if it was about my car, Steve said no, it was a Ford. The other employees stayed silent. After driving off, I felt no difference in the car. Later, Mavis called to say only the back brakes and rotors were replaced. They claimed the front parts hadn't arrived, though earlier, they said my car was a hazard to drive. This raised concerns. I demanded a refund. Steve offered $727 and said the front brakes weren't in stock. His explanation changed multiple times. First, the parts came in the wrong box; later, he blamed shipping. He should have informed me before charging me for incomplete service. Steve also said when the front brakes arrived, they'd charge an extra $79 per brake. Jay didn't respond to any calls. When I spoke with Jay, he was dismissive and didn't offer any resolution.And said they now couldn't do the front brakes. I took my car to a Porsche dealership, where they confirmed Mavis installed low-quality CARQUEST rotors ($90). This is unacceptable for a high-end car like a Porsche. I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the service I received at the Islandia store on February 11, 2025. What should have been a simple tire plug ended up costing me an entire tire due to what I believe was improper service and negligence. That morning, I visited the store to have a punctured tire repaired. After paying for the service, I left, assuming the issue was resolved. However, shortly after, I noticed my tire pressure sensor fluctuating. I initially thought the sensor needed time to reset and proceeded to work. At the end of my shift, I discovered my tire was completely flat again--the very same one I had just paid to have repaired. At 5:58 PM, I called the store and spoke with Steve, who had assisted me earlier that morning. He assured me that if I returned, they would address the issue. Upon arrival, the store manager, Joe, inspected my tire and informed me that there was another nail in my tire, just 1/2 inch away from the initial repair. However, I find it highly unlikely that I picked up an additional nail within 12 hours, especially in such close proximity to the original puncture. Rather than acknowledging the possibility of an improper repair, the staff attempted to convince me that my workplace (Servpro) was responsible for the second nail. Steve himself admitted that it was more plausible that the original technician, Al Coqnata, had mistakenly created a second puncture while plugging the tire. Joe demonstrated the leak using a soap solution and then attempted to sell me a new tire for over $220. The upselling, combined with the deflection of blame, was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Given the circumstances, I declined the offer and requested that my spare tire be installed instead. While waiting, I spoke with another manager and requested the names of the employees who worked on my car, as well as corporate's contact information. During this conversation, I learned that this location was considered a failing store and that the technician who worked on my car was actually being terminated that day. Additionally, another customer had returned the same day for a repeat repair, further raising concerns about the quality of service. As a former operations supervisor, I find the way this situation was handled entirely unacceptable. If a customer returns with the same issue after a repair, the correct course of action would be to prioritize customer trust and ensure the job is done right. Instead, the store failed to provide proof of the alleged "second nail" before removing it, which would have been the easiest way to convince me that a replacement was necessary. That same evening, I contacted corporate to file a complaint. Two days later, I received a voicemail from Area Manager Liz, stating that she had reviewed the security footage and found no negligence. However, I find this response laughable--there is no way the store's cameras are of such high quality that they could identify two separate nails in a black tire. If such technology exists, I would certainly be interested in purchasing it for my current business. Liz also reiterated that the store did nothing wrong and only offered me a discounted tire--something that was never actually offered to me at the time. In fact, Joe specifically stated that there was little flexibility on tire pricing and quoted me $170+ for the tire alone and over $200 with labor. I followed up with corporate a second time in hopes of escalating my complaint, but I have yet to receive a response from the area manager's supervisor. I informed corporate that if my concerns remained unaddressed, I would be left with no choice but to share my experience publicly. The outstanding customer service shown by him and his team was something that is unfortunately fleeting. He made his way over to me from out of the store to ask what I needed done, took some information from my car ( tire size, license plate number), and met me inside to go over all the information for the new tires. I should have checked reviews before coming here. Made an appointment for 8am to have my EV inspected, which typically takes 15 mins being there is no emission testing required for EVs, obviously. It is merely a safety check which consists of a visual inspection of tire wear, brakes, lights, seatbelts, etc. Upon checking in at 8am, I was told as soon as the "inspection guy" gets here it will be done. The "inspection guy" showed up at 8:20. My car was brought in at 8:35. It is now 9:10 and I am still waiting for them to finish. While my car was on the lift, I could clearly see the "inspection guy" hanging around and chatting with his colleagues. Lazy demeaned. No sense of urgency. Absolute worst experience I've ever had at a car shop! do not go to Mavis islandia, NY! Filed complaint on better Business bureau they have 2 stars out of 5 and thousands of complaints in the past year,488 in the past 2 months. Brought my brand new vehicle in for an inspection when I went to pick it up there was a deep scratch on my driver side door right smack in the middle! When I told the manager he asked the service person who worked on it and he just shrugged his shoulder and turned white then he denied it. A lot of lies I had to deal with, first they said there was foam around the metal Bar near the door where it would have been opened, that's a lie there is no bumper of any kind. Then they said you could see everything from the camera; that's a lie you cannot see anything when the car door is open nor can you see a quarter of the parking lot where my car was parked, then the regional manager Elizabeth who was rude from day one and never got back to me for 2 weeks, claimed that my collision guy said that it must have been a disgruntled girlfriend since the scratch looks like the letter g she said they wrote that in an email to her-that was an outright lie because I went to my collision guy and they showed me the email they sent to her and all they sent her was customer came in with scratch done at Mavis and the estimate of $937. I have Elizabeth on recording saying this and proof of it being a lie so I will be taking that to court with me. So she lied to me three times and this is a regional manager of Mavis! I spoke to three collision people and they all said they get cars that were damaged from this Mavis very often in fact one of them is working on one with $13,000 worth of damage right now. Do yourself a favor take pictures of your car a video before you bring it there they are unethical unprofessional and very rude to deal with! Came in with my Jeep looking to replace the 4, 33" bfgoodrich mudder tires with 4 all terrain tires from a cheaper brand but the same size. They quoted me at $790 and some change. They needed to order the tires and said they'd call when they got them. They never called. I figured I needed the tires, so I call a couple days later and they said they got them. Not only were they the wrong sized tires at 31", but they were also thinner, but the owner then tried to lie to me claiming that the 33" on the tire was referring to the width of the tire. I needed the tires that day and wasn't about to argue. For anyone looking for a good deal on tires, all weather tires in Huntington station. 4 33" all terrain bfgoodrich tires, for the same price. I came here with a flat tire and was told I ruined my tire by driving on it and that there was also a large hole in it. I had them put on my spare and was on my way to buy a used tire when the next place told me my tire was totally fixable. They plugged the hole which I noticed was rather small, about the size of a screw...... the tire has been good for over a week now. If i could give zero stars i would!! I have never been to mavis before, i came here for a routine oil change because my usual shop didn't have availability and i was on a time crunch. When i picked up my car after the oil change, the employee who serviced my car had left the engine shield HANGING OFF MY CAR. I was allowed to drive away with my child in the backseat if he car in this condition and i didn't realize the problem until i had left already. I brought the car back once i realized and demanded it be fixed, i was assured that they would make it right. An hour goes by as i watch a seemingly intoxicated employee (he was stumbling around, couldn't keep his eyes open and had a bleeding open would on his head and an ANKLE MONITOR?!?! Can't make this up!!!!) hammer into the engine shield before using PLASTIC ZIP TIES to secure it back to my vehicle. I repeatedly protested that this is a leased vehicle, and i can not return it to the dealership in this condition. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager at the facility and he won't be back until tomorrow. I stood in the lobby and called corporate, who also reached out to the location and i watched and listened as the dumbfounded employee assured their corporate office that there simply was not a manager in and that they were handling the matter. Corporate turned me back to the employees. I demanded a refund and they refused. Finally the man in an oil stained t shirt and ankle monitor stumbled in and declared that he was indeed the manager! This was unbelievable, and when he noticed my doubt he stuttered "Oh and I'm not drunk okay? I have vertigo" (first of all i never said out loud that i thought he was intoxicated, and i work in neurosciences and vertigo doesn't account for his demeanor or behavior). I told him again i wanted my car properly repaired and i wanted to be refunded for the faulty service. He refused. I am waiting to hear back from this company's corporate offices who are now escalating this matter to a higher level to issue me my refund and repair my damaged hacked car. I've long used Mavis as it's convenient and offers locations around the country. This spring I moved further east on Long Island and by the fall I needed some work done on my tires. I mentally flipped a coin between the Islandia and Centerreach stores, opting for this one. I'm glad I did. Juan has been a god-send. He took the time to listen, test my car and offer honest advice. After happening upon him one evening and having his crew inspect my ride, I bought parts myself and made a point to return only to this store on his shift. My problem has been pervasive and elusive, but we're hoping we finally snared it. My only regret is not having a $5 or $10 spot in my wallet to tip him. I can't speak for everyone in the Islandia store, but I can say I'll definitely be coming back to Juan the next time I have tire problems. read more

Don't go here. Steve behind the counter stated for your car it is recommended to use synthetic. My car does not need it and the dealer doesn't even use it. Sure enough the owners manual doesn't state that either. Once you use synthetic you always have to. Extra 40 bucks it would have been for literally the wrong oil. Incident 1; Took my truck in to get new tires. I left with some deep scratches on one of my wheels that I was unable to fill with touch up paint. They claimed it was already there and wouldn't do anything about it. Also had a weird vibration while driving, after taking it to another shop and having it balanced (which mavis charged me to do) it went away. Incident 2; Took my car here to get new tires, left with huge white mark on the side of my car. (looks like paint) I was told by the manager that it's impossible, they have cameras that would've shown it. But of course they won't allow me to view the video and will not do anything about it. I have have great experiences at this location every time I go. I started going here back in October because it's near my job and I needed brakes. I was able to get same day service and I have gone back for service needed and for my oil changes. Shawn, the assistant manager is very fair and honest and Bryan, the manager is professional and courteous. I always have a million questions and they have infinite patience for me. Both Bryan and Billy (a mechanic) are extremely helpful and let me know step by step what's going on with my car and they both always take the time to make sure I understand and let me know what I can do to maintain the car. read more

If you value your time and don't want to have to catch people trying to bullshit you then skip this place. To start, I got to Mavis in Islandia before it opened, they put me in the computer and then promptly ignored my car, working on others that had arrived AFTER me. Then I spoke to someone and they pulled my car in, only to leave it elevated and not work on it. Their excuse? The mechanic had to run home. What? So there's only one? Anyway since they could sense I was getting kinda mad, they began to work on my car. Eventually I got to talk to Billy, this was an experience, and the first time he tried to charge me for lifetime break pads I already had. He also took me in to look at my car, and explained how I needed all new brake pads, back rotors were fine, front rotors were warped. So I'd need front and rear brakes and front rotors, and brakes bled. He quotes me $402 before tax. Now we wait. An hour and a half later my car is done and I step up to pay. They now want $762. After having Billy go over the bill again, he realizes he "accidentally" charged me twice for front rotors... but adds "how do you think I worked my way up in this company?". I guess he thought he was being funny, I didn't laugh. Upon further review he realizes they changed the front and rear rotors, after him telling me the rear rotors were fine. Again another oops moment. So he agrees to eat the cost of the rear rotors, and I walk out having paid $462, after 2 hours, and multiple attempts to get over on me. Point blank, getting there early means nothing, scheduled appointments also mean nothing as I witnessed a guy who did so being told to come back because they were too busy. He was told appointments don't account for how busy they could be. Basically, all in all this place sucks, and the people there are a headache to deal with. If you need service, go literally anywhere else. read more
