Overall: I trust these guys and they do their best at giving the best price possible. I have had two experiences with Mavis which I am pleased about. I did go in for an oil change and tire replacement. They found a few things that needed to be done which ended up costing about $1200. Hey, my first major fix for owning a 2015 Rogue: rotors, new brakes, a balance (I believe) and two tire replacements. They were all confirmed as fixes needed from the dealership so I went with it. The other was about the same price tag for new shocks for the back, two tires, alignment, new battery, oil change, new brake fluid, and steering wheel fluid. Think that was all for my 50,000 mile, first owner, 2015 Rogue. Seemed right with the repairs needed for my vehicle age and mileage. Payment $$: Mavis pointed out their credit card sign up offers which had a mail in rebates and applied coupons that brought down the price about $200. Their prices are fair when I researched them and the discounts are a bonus. The credit card is great because there is 0% interest for 6 months if you pay more than $200. This is digestible and doable with a bill like $1200. Quality of work and customer service: Happy with the work they did. Showed me my car before and what was being done. Loved how they educated me on the repair work they were going to do. It took a while, but you have to expect your car to be out of commission for a while when doing services for a car. I feel safe for the winter; they thoroughly checked my car. I let Matt know I was tight on money and he let me know of repairs that could be put off for a month or two. They're always friendly at this location! They also offer warranties on many products. Appointments aren't necessary but recommended. There are sometimes some hiccups or delays but overall a great place. The atmosphere is very chill. If you need to wait for your vehicle in the lobby it's air conditioned even during the hottest days you'll stay cool. There is a vending machine if you didn't pack snacks and a water cooler if you get thirsty. There is a nearby Dunkin Donuts you can walk to, or a restaurant called Cafe Luna if you get hungry. I came in for routine maintenance of oil change. I returned because my car wouldn't accelerate. I was told that there was a leak with the oil change and it would be redone. after secondary oil change, the tech did not check for leaks or turn the car back on. I left, the car broke down, and needs a new transmission. corporate representative said I was fabricating a story to get them to pay for the transmission. Excellent service. I came in for a nail in the tire. They took me right in. The technician was very thorough, pulled the nailed out of the tire, then removed the tire and put it into water bath to make sure there no leaks anywhere else. they topped off the 3 tires as well. Bought 4 tires for my van on amazon and a thing popped up saying add service, so i clicked on it and mavis tire came up. They deliver the tires there and they put them on. very convenient i thought. Well not so much. After dropping my van off the night before i get a call the next day at like 3 in the afternoon informing me that they can do the tires cause their lift wont lift the van. The van dont weight much more then an suv, its a tin can. so he tells me i have to go to a different one. he calls another location and they cant do it either, so i tell him to do it manually like before they had hydraulic lifts and he tells me no that its to dangerous. so now i have to pay 3x the amount they were charging and the inconvenience of taking 4 tires to another shop and a wasted day for my work van. Set up an online appointment for 11:00. Ok great let's go. I call the same morning asking to get in early, and I'm assured they'll be able to take me at 10:00. Fantastic. I head up and drop the car off. My car doesn't get onto the lift until 2:30. It's now 3:15 and it's still sitting on the lift with a wheel off. It shouldn't take 4+ hours for two tire replacements and a brake flush. Yes I understand you're short staffed and it's a busy day as this is one of the only shops open on Sunday for repairs, but at the very least be up front with the customer about estimates. Store hours are 8 AM and we were there at 8:30 AM the door was locked but all the bays were open. We asked one of their tire installers if they were open and he mumbled something and shrugged his shoulders. Then a skinny guy name Rob opened the door. What a complete moron this guy Rob was. Kept interrupting me and then I finally told him and then I told him to stop and you need to listen to me. Kept interrupting and that's when my wife and I walked out of the store. I went in for a rear tire replacement on my Mercedes' E 300. all my tire sensors were working when I brought it in. after the tire was replaced that tire recorded no sensor. I now am taking it to the mercedes dealer to get a new sensor. He says unfortunately this happens way to often when you take a tire to get replaced by just a regular tire company. My experience with the shop was less than stellar. My mother came in for a tire repair. Instead walked out with a oil/filter change and a brake flush. They didn't charge her for the tire repair, but no means no. It was her fault for not looking at the repair authorization and realizing $80 dollars wasn't for a tire repair instead other items they tacked on. I'm a little ticked off because they used the language barrier and her old age as a tool to make a simple repair into more dollars. They told the regional manager they did a complimentary inspect on the vehicle and found the car was low on oil. My father has a case of oil at home and is retired. You know what he does in his spare time? He checks the oil on his vehicles! But still, no means no. If you're concerned about low oil why didn't you mention that in your findings? I tried to resolve it peacefully and asked for an explanation. The manager Ray went on the defense and started to aggravate my 70 year old father and proceeded to tell us my mother came in for an oil change. My father lost it and exchanged a few unpleasant words but never threaten the guy. Ray proceeded to kick us out of the shop, but we refused and he called the police because we wouldn't leave until he gave us a reasonable explanation. The regional manager called me back and offered to refund my mothers $80 dollars. I think that was a small price to pay to being taken advantage of and humiliated in front of other customers. Ray decided to use a doctor and a patient with cancer as an example to how his shop operated. Unfortunately, I lost my uncle recently to stage 4 cancer. You can imagine how my mother felt after he said that. But that's irrelevant at this point. Even though I got the money back I still feel this is going to happen again to someone else. I'll be moving to file a complaint with the better business bureau and/or attorney general office so they may have it on file in case they do this again. I would be careful if you decide to do business with this shop. Read all your invoices before you sign. partial reasonability on my mother for not checking, but the rest is on the shop and manager for the poor deescalation. Bad business practice. read more

They always accommodate me to the best of their ability!! The staff on the work floor comes into the waiting room and explains what they have done and any work that maybe needed. He said ok bring it down we could do that. so I drove a half an hour to the shop, when I get there the guy had an attitude and said we don't have the tools we can't do it. I went there on a Monday at noon with a puncture to my tire. I pretty much knew it was not repairable. They checked and said I needed a new tire. They didn't have my tire in stock or any comparable tires, which I thought was strange since I was at a place called Mavis TIRES. But no problem, the guy kind of looked at me and shrugged. I said OK can we order it? He said it could be here today, but if not definitely tomorrow and they will hang onto my rim. I was about to walk out and realized I was never even given a price or a name of the tire they are ordering. Had to ask. They never called day of, which is fine, but they never called the next day either. So I called and the guy was all flustered. Said the order was still pending but tomorrow it would come in. Cool, the run-around begins. Next day, No call again. So I called again, and he said yeah it's here...??? Oh Ok great, thanks for not calling me. I go there and the guy says yeah I think it came in.... You think it came in?? The BEST part of this is when the guy who put my new tire on, put it on all while he was on the phone. Yes, one hand on his phone, the other hand putting my tire on..... I called a place down the block who said they also did not have my tire in stock, but he could go to their nearby warehouse that day to pick it up himself... aka real, decent/good (same-day) service. Also, $20 cheaper than Mavis TIRE somehow. But Mavis still had my rim and I didn't want more of a headache. I think it's pretty bad that there was just no urgency, I was driving on a spare for 3 days and it was just no big deal. While I was there, they got a call from an angry customer and he was apologizing. So clearly the spot just isn't good. Save yourself time and a headache, go somewhere else. Moral of the story - Shouldn't take half a week for a tire replacement from a place called Mavis Discount Tire where the same tire is cheaper elsewhere and actually available the same day. read more

I work within waling distance to the Mavis Store on Route 9 in Old Bridge, NJ. Mavis is a step down in every aspect compared to STS that it replaced. I went for an oil change last week and also asked for new wiper blades. When they called me to tell me that my car was done, I asked if the wipers were replaced as well, he said emphatically yes. Turns out that not only didn't they replace my wipers, I am not even sure they changed the oil. The next day I noticed that the sticker they place on the inside windshield noting the miles until the next oil change was never replaced. The readout on the dashboard telling me to change the oil was never updated. The usual paper floor mats were never used. I went back today to have a conversation about my concerns, and all I got was an attitude that if they have to check to so see if the oil was replaced, they will have to charge me all over again. After I asked to speak to the manager, he ran away. He did, however, give one of his workers a card that said free oil change (for my next visit). I called Mavis Corporate and they had the regional manager call me, which he did. He said that his workers need more training and he apologized. He knew that the mnager gave me a free oil change coupon for my next visit. One more item, when you get an oil change, they do nothing else. They do not fill up your washer fluids nor do they check anything else. I can only say that Mavis does not run a tight ship and they definitely do not have quality controls. There is no management making sure that the work is done properly and thoroughly. I am not saying that i wont use them again, but I am hoping that management makes the necessary steps to improving their quality of work and inter personable skills. read more

I came to this location on Sunday because my battery light came on. I was told I either needed a new battery or the issue could be the alternator. I was advised to buy a new battery but they could not rule out the alternator being the problem because their "scanner" wasn't working. I bought a new battery, the battery light was still on after. I was told after I drive around it will reset and the light will disappear. I drove to Neptune and back, the light was still on. I was told the "real mechanic" was off that day and that the workers are just techs and to come back tomorrow. I left my car overnight and the next day I was told the mechanic called out and to leave it another day. I missed a day of work came back Tuesday and was told nothing was wrong with the car and that the battery light is not on and that I should get my tire pressure sensor fixed. I asked if anyone ever checked the alternator. I was told the mechanic was on break and they could not confirm if it was checked. I got in my car and the red battery light is STILL on but didn't bother going back inside because now I do not trust them to ever look at my car again. I wasted my time and my money on a $200 battery that I probably didn't need. read more

We have had work done at this Mavis a number of times. Last year we had starting hearing a noise after new brakes were installed. 3 times back to the shop to have new rotors put on. No noise for a week and came back. We learned to live with it. We had been having shaking when braking a few months after new tires were installed. Had an appointment yesterday...1,400 later. Hoses to the front brakes was causing the noise. Why was this not found last year??? read more

I went to Old Bridge Mavis early on a Sunday. There were 5 people ahead of me and 2 mechanics. They took care of me quickly. My interaction with Jason, the person behind the counter, gave me confidence that it was an efficient place. The mechanic who worked on my tires was Rubal. Hope I spelled it correctly. They suggest repairs that are not necessary, overpriced, and don't disclose extra charges beforehand. They've told me that my breaks needs to be fixed, I took it to another mechanic and they said that my car is fine. Each time I come in to get one issue fixed they find multiple other issues and pressure me to do what they suggest when no other mechanic tells me the same thing. I think they take advantage of people who are not car savvy. read more

Be cautious! I've have been a customer of this location for many years, even before it was Mavis (when it was sts). I used this location because they were fast, friendly and affordable. Today was the last time I will visit this location. In the past I've had oil changes, tires, and breaks done. There was a few occasions where I had asked for something to be done (fix the rattling heat shield on the bottom of my car) which was not done the first time I asked- at the next oil change I had asked again and it was done. Today I brought my car in for a loud grinding noise that I assumed was my breaks. After dropping it off at this location I got a call saying I needed rear calipers, rear break pads and rotors, and front struts- I was quoted $1400 and then told they wouldn't charge me for breaks and rotors since I just had them done in May (breaks have lifetime warranty)so it would be around $1200- I told them I was going to speak with my fiancé and call back in a minute. My fiancé's friend works for a auto shop was going to help us out since we are currently saving for a wedding and couldn't afford this price. I called back and spoke with the manager who was assisting me but as soon As I said I didn't want the repairs done he gave me an attitude stating that he was doing the breaks and rotors for free, and they offer a warranty which a backyard shop won't offer- and they do price matching so is your friend doing it for free? I said no, not free but he is giving us a great deal, I don't have an exact price but I don't want any work done on my car, I will come pick it up. The manager insisted I get a price and to let him know so they could price match it, he also said he would take one of the repairs from $500 to $450. I told him I would call back. He was so pushy and made me feel so uncomfortable that I didn't call back, I went to pick up the car and had my fiancé go in to get it because I was uncomfortable dealing with the pushy manager. The other staff members were very nice and understanding to my fiancé when he went to pick up the car, the manager was in the garage the whole time so there was no interaction with him- thank god. I ended up taking this car to another local parts store and was told the pads, rotors, and calipers would be $500- the struts were recommended maintenance based on the mileage of the car. I can't imagine how much money I over paid over the years to this location on my car repairs. I am pretty frustrated at the way I was treated by a MANAGER after have given them business for many years (I even have there credit card)- I have never felt so uncomfortable in a place of business as I did today. This place is probably okay for oil changes but even that be cautious of because they don't tend to tip off windshield washer fluids or check the cabin air filters unless you specifically ask. 2 stars given because the rest of the staff is friendly and understanding. read more

My husband stopped here yesterday because he heard a popping sound from the tire and thought he ran something in the road. After checking the car, Matt at Mavis told him he needed struts totaling $1,100.00, plus new tires - for a grand total of $1,700.00!! The car is a 2017 Honda Accord with 35,000 miles. Needless to say he left Mavis and went to Honda - just got a call from Honda and they were able to take care of the problem for $290 - wow, what a difference! read more
