this store turned me away with a screw in my front Tire this past Saturday. The Tire had slow leak and would have gone flat on the Thruway before my destination Upstate. I will never buy a Tire at a Mavis store again. The place I went to back in Manhattan removed the Screw and put a plug in the Tire Tread. Took them about a minute. Got all four tires changed yesterday. They quoted me 30 minutes and it took nearly 3 hours. Got home and something was wrong with one of them I got a low PSI alert... 5 mins after leaving the place. Didn't think it was a big deal as sometimes it takes the system a little bit to recalibrate, they say. 4 hours later it was flat. They gave me a faulty tire and then told me it was out of warranty so I have to pay for another tire despite the fact that it hadn't been 10 hours since they gave me the first one. The reason was because they stated the tire had "punctures" in it which isn't within the installation failure warranty. While I was waiting for my car to be fixed, every single customer that came in needed help with something this company messed up on their car. Someone came in because her break and battery lights went off after getting them changed here. Some guy came in for a tire change yesterday with a 4 pm appointment and they literally ignored him and "shut the lights off on him" (his words) so he had to come back today for a couple hours again. They take absolutely no responsibility and blamed every other person that came in with a problem. It was kinda wild to watch honestly. read more

Bad service never again , well first of all I did confirm the service I would like to do for my car the person at the counter very confident always saying yes we can , but reality nothing done , I went home and check what they do in my car I found out nothing done , beware when you do change oil what kind of oil they put in your car usually the person in the counter recommended synthetic oil and charge you higher price , I really don't trust this store they are sweet talking don't be fool , before hand please clarify first don't believe for their sweet talk . Ok these guys are crooks. I've had not so good experiences with them before but I got better things to do than rip them. Because of their incompetence I swore never to use them except for a broken taillight etc cause it is super close to my house. Today my wife's battery died couldn't find a better place and sent her there. The crook says he can do in an less than an hour and doesn't even give her a quote. She asks after he's rushed to start the work. He says $500 plus labor. She complains and he offers to not charge for labor which is 39. Then he even tells her that he gets the battery from Kia AND MARKS IT UP BY OVER 100%. I get on the phone and scream at the guy and even though he's done make him put it on the rack and remove. Do not go to this place! They do not know what they are doing. Yesterday my husband called and was advised to come in. He took off 2 hours to arrive and find out that their system was down! Today they said they have 4 tires, then after 1-1/2 hours of waiting, they only have 3 (the computer showed 4). They realized this after the car was on the lift and the tires removed. I went to Mavis in Ramsey for an oil change. The service was fast and the manager polite and professional.

I would give this business zero stars if I could. I tried to have them deal with a single Pirelli tire warranty issue with 7,700 miles on it. I was turned away because they said I did not buy the tires there. I spoke directly with Pirelli the day before and they said all I needed to do was bring the tire to any authorized Pirelli dealer. Mavis IS an authorized Pirelli dealer. Basically, these idiots do not understand Pirelli's warranty coverage. I'm sure they don't understand many of the warranty policies of the tire brands which they sell. read more

I brought my 2500 ram for a wheel alignment. The guy said an hour to an hour and a half. I came back 3 hours later for the guy to tell me my truck was to heavy to lift. No phone call no nothing . I previously would have rated this location with three or four stars. The prices were elevated but not completely unreasonable and they are convenient. They routinely take a little while longer then they estimate, but nothing outrageous. Cliff notes of the following paragraph: they insisted I pay $400 for a part I didn't need or they wouldn't give me my car back. I refused, got my car back without the $400 part and the car is just fine (confirmed by a reputable mechanic). I recently brought my car in for a broken belt. I knew what was broken and told the shop staff. The belt was old so its time had come. A mechanic called me the day after I dropped my car off. He said they replaced the belt and that the belt broke because my alternator was broken. I knew my alternator was fine; I had it replaced a year ago and know the signs of a bad alternator of which there were none. The mechanic I was speaking to put on a massive hard sell, telling me they would not give me my car back "in this condition" and indicated I would have to replace the alternator (they quoted me $400) if I wanted my car back. I made my way to the shop. Their story changed as to why I needed the alternator but they continually insisted they wouldn't give me my car back without it. They showed me to my car to show me whats what. It turns out a screw in the plate that holds the alternator in place had partially stripped (probably when the belt broke). This in no way necessitates a new alternator. One simple bolt later and the car was magically restored to working order. They didn't even bother to remove the stuck pieces of torn belt from my engine, which could damage the engine! Once reputable, this shop has resorted to unethical business practices. Three days later I took the car to my old mechanic (I moved too far away to take my car here regularly) to ensure I wasn't making the grave mistake of not spending $400 to replace a functioning part. I told him minimal details. He looked at the car (free of charge!) and said it was ridiculous to say I needed a new alternator as it is functioning very well. He affirmed that the method I suggested to fix the problem (a simple bolt) was the best method. His conclusion: "they were just trying to get money out of you." read more

Ive been to this place twice in the last 6 months and they have been fantastic both times. Right after I bought my car (used) I got a flat tire and this was the closest place to me so I brought it there, and they took one look at my car and advised I needed all new tires due to tire rot, which was upsetting, but they gave me a great deal on new tires and were very nice and completed the work quickly. Luckily I got the tire warranty, because a few days ago I was driving and suddenly my tire pressure light came on, apparently I drove over a screw. I took it to Mavis during my lunch break and even though it was busy there they looked at my tire and repaired it in less than 30 minutes. I am very grateful for such great service and would definitely come back here the next time I have an issue with a tire. read more

Don't ever take your care to Mavis if you value your life. Took my car to get brakes replaced and the mechanic installed improperly. After several months (i.e. less than a year) I started getting noise in the brakes. Took it back and they tell me the calipers are defective. Charged me $509 for parts and waived labor (i.e. new pads, rotors, calipers). Calipers only had 13K miles and warranty was for for 12K miles. 9 months later started hearing brake noise again. Took it to a different mechanic and both calipers were shot and never disengaged. So basically I was driving around with bad brakes that could have potentially caused an accident. Mechanic says Mavis probably didn't install right as a special tool is required for Volkswagens. Two sets of calipers in less then two years that were defective or were they installed incorrectly? I find it very hard to believe that brakes would fail this fast (i.e. under a year). Basically I'm out $509 plus another $900, total $1400 as brake jobs was never done correctly. Now Mavis customer support is saying they won't do anything because I took it to another shop. Regional manager called once but never called back. Tried calling him the first time it happened and got no return call. I have all receipts and took pictures of parts for proof. Mavis customer support has the nerve to tell me there were probably a lot of miles on the recent calipers. That's interesting because it's only been 9 months and I've been working from home the entire time and in Covid lockdown. So mileage is going to be very low. Completely incompetent. Do yourself a favor and ask around for a good local mechanic. Stay away for all Mavis centers in NJ and NY. read more

I had a GREAT experience. Got here early so I was the first one in. The manager was very friendly and made sure my car was taken right away. He did a great job of explaining my options to me and definitely did not push any additional services which I liked. This is not my frost time here and won't be my last. I was in and out within 30 minutes. Highly recommend. They also have plenty of room for cars which is an advantage over smaller locations because it can lessen the amount of time you have to wait. I also heard him talking to other customers about tires and he was very professional and I could tell the customers appreciated his help. read more

Got a new set of tires from STS in May 2015. In February 2016, one of the tires went flat. Brought it back to STS (now Mavis) and they were extremely helpful in getting the tire replaced. The tire had to be ordered from another location. They did a great job communicating with me to let me know when I could bring the car back for the replacement. When I did bring it back, they did the job quickly. They could not have provided better service. read more

Some of the worst customer service I ever experienced. Had a nail in my tire, called Mavis Ramsey Friday at 3:30, 9/20/19, they told me they had a tire and come in right away. When I got there they told me they did not have a tire for me but they would call me when it got there early Saturday, no call from Mavis. I called at about noon and they said the tire wasn't there but would call the warehouse and call me right back to let me know when it would be there, again no call back. I called at about 3:00 and they said the tire was there, I went there and they had a Dunlop tire rather than the Michelin tire I had been quoted. They said they would have the correct tire for me Sunday a.m. and would call me as soon as it was there, again no call. I wrote an email to the "contact us" page on their website telling them of the situation, 4 days later haven't heard from Mavis. To top it off I was quoted a price of $323.00 (with a $20.00 coupon) . If I could I'd give no stars, I would! Awful experience! I purchased two tires in November and they are completely worn 6 months later! I was never told that I needed to rotate my tires every 5,000 miles for them to wear evenly. So, I figured they would do there best to help me and all Nick could say is, "What can I say, I am new here and Ryan, the manager isn't here, so leave your care here and don't drive it." Not possible since I'm the only one in my household. So I asked if someone could help me change a tire and he said, "Nope all my guys are busy and we close in 2 hours!" He did nothing to help. Was completely useless. He even insulted me and called me negligent, because I didn't know that I should rotate my tires every 5,000 miles. I'll never go there again and I don't recommend them at all!!! Thanks Mavis, but I'll stick with Community Auto in Ramsey. Just had worst auto service ever. I was first customer when they opened At 8:00am, Because they make No appointments on Sat. First come , first served. Four hours later, When I went to pay for the tire purchase and installation I was asked by the manager Tom If all was ok. I told him no as they did not finish the Job by noon 4 hrs later as promised It's very busy today I was told. But how did you fix numerous cars Before me. This is not good business! Tom continued to treat me poorly until I left. When I told him would report this on YELP He said I would be taking food from his family mouths. I cannot believe I am still without my car for almost two weeks after spending close to $2,000 worth of work done that also included a front brake job. I can only say that I have NEVER been treated so badly and disrespected by their smooth talking manager TOM who over charged me for front end work. I was quoted one price and was hit with additional front end work triple the amount without contacting me for the approval to do additional work. I went to pick up my car last Friday, July 20 and was happy to finally get my car back when I started driving it home, the car was still pulling to the right same as before after spending over $1,000 to replace front end parts. I drove the car back. Yesterday, I went there and spoke to TOM and asked if it was repaired, well they haven't even looked at it in 3 days. I asked TOM to take a test drive with me, but he was too busy and said he would later that day and would call me. I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM. I have contacted their corp office and have filed a complaint. TOM told me then car was NEVER test driven after they completed the work. How are they supposed to know if the car was repaired properly without test driving it, even after I asked him to do so. I DO WANT TO MENTION THAT THE GENTLEMAN, NICK WAS TRYING HIS HARDEST TO HELP ME AND IS A REALLY GOOD GUY. HE SHOULD BE THE MANAGER THERE AND TOM SHOULD BE GONE. I was very kind and understanding all along and gave them the benefit of the doubt, but now I am VERY upset and feel TOM has taken advantage of me. 0 stars for this location and a warning to everyone, stay away from this location because your NOT going to be satisfied unless you are only having a flat tire fixed. read more

Brought my car in for a simple alignment. They told me they needed to jump start the car during the alignment (battery less than 1 year old, no problems before) which in turn fried my aftermarket stereo system. I told them what had happened and they told me they don't deal with audio, and would not do anything with my bill for the alignment. Now I have jump started this car before I got the new battery and never had any problems with the stereo. I think they left something on in my car, jumped the car incorrectly, and fried one of the fuses powering my stereo. I now have an even bigger bill to have my stereo system fixed. I will never go back there and I do not recommend anyone else does. read more

They broke my tire pressure transmitter and after 3 visits couldn't figure out how to fix it so had to take it to the dealer - Mavis covered the additional cost but not all the aggravation. 5 months later the breaks and rotors had to be replaced again (normally last 4 yrs for me) and Mavis denied responsibility. read more

Beware of this place. They are crooks. I bought tires there and went in for my 5,000 mile tire rotation. They came back and told me I needed a new brake job ($1,184) plus new struts ($1,200) as well as a few other things. I had my brakes done 15 months ago at Sunoco in Mahwah. 20,000 miles ago. So I brought my car back to that place. They took car out for a ride then put car up on rack and told me nothing was wrong with brakes or struts. Keep in mind that the brakes felt fine to me all along. I believe Sunoco not Mavis as they visibly showed me the brake wear and struts which had absolutely zero leakage. So disappointed in this Mavis shop. I will never return and will warn as many people about their dishonesty. read more

Brought my car in for a oil change and tire rotation. I knew going in; my brakes needed to be done pads and rotors so I was expecting them to recommend a brake job. However I have used 2 good local mechanics over the past 20 years, one a master mechanic certified and another a neighbor and friend who owns his own auto repair service. Mavis did recommend the brakes but then also recommended front struts and rear shocks???? Total estimate $1950. They showed me a wet spot on a shock and said hydraulic oil was leaking. But I knew those shocks were replaced less then 3 years ago and had no issue about struts. I paid for the oil change and declined their recommendations. I then brought my car to each of my mechanics, each examined the car and came up with the same conclusion: the struts were perfectly fine and same with the rear shocks. There was no hydraulic fluid leaking and the shocks are both relatively new. It did need a brake job which cost me $660 with my mechanic vs the $1950 in work Mavis recommended. So my question is; was these recommendations legitimate? If I happened not to have a working relationship with good mechanics and some knowledge of my car would an unsuspecting person taken the bait? I have in the past taken my car there to get a tire estimate for my wife's Honda but the Honda Dealership actually got me a better price. Also my daughter recently got a hole in a tire repaired there with no issue and no major recommendations even though her car is old. So I am wondering if it is maybe a new overly ambitious manager. Both times I was there the bays have been full. Also when I posted these comments locally, a few other folks had the same experience recently. read more

I wish I could make it Zero stars. The absolute worst experience you could imagine. I made an appointment on line for Sunday at 9:00AM for an alignment and I received a confirmation via email. On day of appointment I show up at 9:00 to drop the car off. The woman (Crystal) behind the counter looked my name up, confirmed the appointment and asked when I would like the car back. I replied that I needed it back by 3:00 PM as my son was going to take it back to college Monday morning. She replied "no problem, see you at 3:00". At 3:05 I called to confirm it was done and she said "no, we haven't gotten it in yet" I reminded her of my 9:00 AM appointment and the fact that my son needed the car back. No apologies from Crystal, just a "well, come and pick it up". I told her I had an appointment and I needed it done, she said hold on. She then came back to me and said, "there is a car coming off the alignment rack now, your's will be next". I was ok with this knowing I could still have the car by 5:00PM. I get to Mavis at 4:30PM and see my car in the same spot I parked it in this morning. Crystal comes out and asks if she could help me, I reply I'm the one with the 9:00 AM alignment. She replies we still have t gotten to it. I said what happened to I was next at 3:00PM? She did not respond, only turned and walked into the shop. At 5:15 PM she said "I have bad news..." Well, I have bad news. Please avoid this place at all costs. They are unorganized, lie, take walk ins over appointments and never once offered an apology. They could have tried to save my business by offering a discount off a future service - nothing from this filthy, dirty, disorganized shop. There is no excuse for what happened today other than this incompetent women named Crystal who is obviously in a position she is not qualified for, unable to dispatch work in an orderly fashion. read more
