UPDATE Why is "the owner" asking me to call him instead of writing here at Yelp? What is he afraid of? If I did call, I would record the call as I have every legal right to do in New York State. I do that all of the time with fraudulent companies. When Mavis fraudulently repaired my front brakes, I spoke with the Regional Manager by phone. He denied any culpability. Then, I filed a complaint with the DMV. They did nothing because I had asked that Mavis be closed down. Since the DMV could not close them down without numerous complaints, they dropped it. So, everyone who reads this and has been defrauded by Mavis, file a complaint with the DMV. If enough people file complaints, New York State will take action against Mavis' huge fraud. Let's band together to stand up for our rights and stop Mavis from hurting people. So, when they got around to it, they pulled the front wheels and showed me my brakes. As I said, they were fine. About a year later, I was still hearing a noise. I finally found out what the noise was that I originally went to Mavis for. It turns out that it was the rear brakes. Mavis never even checked them. I have been riding on the original rear brakes since I bought my car. My car is a 2012 Toyota Yaris. When I told the new service center about the noise, they figured out over the phone what was wrong and then told me to drive very carefully because this could be dangerous. When they took the wheels off and opened the drums of my rear brakes, I asked to take pictures. They let me do so. Everything was rusted down to nothing. So, Mavis let me drive on these and instead repaired what did not need to be repaired. This is outrageous! I warn you DO NOT GO TO MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRE for your own safety. They are a very poor excuse for a repair shop. Going to Mavis can risk your safety or even your life. Check out my pictures of my rear brakes. Mavis never even looked at them. They were too busy trying to find an excuse to charge me lots of money for something that didn't need to be done. read more

On 2 Jul 22 I dropped my truck off at 0900hrs this morning at Mavis Tire on Arsenal Street in Watertown NY and came back at 1640hrs (1700hrs close) only to be told that my last tire won't mount on the wheel so I'll have to pick it up tomorrow. I walk in and see three workers using a pry bar into my wheel and as they lifted up the tire, the wheel fell onto the metal mounting machine. This lack of carelessness for my wheels that I spent my hard earned money on made me go look and check all my wheels and of course I see scratches and dents into my metal black wheels causing the bare metal to come through. It was bad and I mean all over each wheel. One of the young workers said they're hard to mount. I replied" the other three weren't?" Worker- He then replies that's what happens when you order from Amazon. Excuse me? I said that I ordered from Custom Offsets which is a leading tire and wheel company. Worker- he then replies in shame... oh and couldn't say anything else. He kept saying I don't know it's my 1st week here everyone quits here a lot. I was then told to come back tomorrow when it's done. So you had from 0900-1700 and you couldn't mount and balance 4 tires onto wheels but you offered me at the beginning an alignment as well ‍ I walked around and had one of the workers(supervisor) look at my wheels and I said wow those are pretty bad damages. The two of three workers working on the wheel left as the supervisor I assume looked with me. They then walked away towards the back to talk and probably ask who mounted them. He came back and told me to come back another time to talk to the manager who's on vacation. The manager was the one who told me they could do it today and if I wanted mounting and balance. I also asked many times previous throughout the day how much the total would be only to give the run around and beat around the bush answer of we'll get it to you. I was told by the manager they could do $30 a tire so that would be $120 plus the TPMS which is 49.99. So what's so hard about that with tax. Add Military discount and take the tax out. They still haven't given me a quote!‍ I left very calm but extremely dissatisfied along with my wife who was about to lose it about the Amazon statement. We called the Corporate Office and Mrs. Dawn helped me and is having rhe Regional Manger contact us. There were many other issues like stating I wanted my security lug nuts taken off and had the regular ones to place back on which they wrote down but that worker placed it back on. He also said I've over and over I've only been here a week and everybody quit. That's cool but what does that have to do with my damages and issues? I finally ran into the assistant manager (Kevin)whom I thought was a supervisor yesterday. I asked why's your door locked and he said he couldn't open it or figure it out all morning. It's like late afternoon what!!! We walked to my truck and he explained everything's done and I said how I'm not happy with my wheels being damaged. I told Kevin that I watched three workers pry at my wheel and pry at my tires. I also brought up that the young worker had the audacity to say to us that's what happens when you order from Amazon. Kevin's reply was he's only been heee two weeks and he's nervous. What does that have to do with anything? What does it have to do with u professionalism and damages to not only my wheels but possibly my tires dexterity after prying and practically bending the lip of the wheel like they did. My wheels will not be repaired. There's no way to repair these since they're gouged and dug into the metal all around all wheels. Mr. Kevin says that my wheels weren't new and had scrapes before. Most of it came from your machine and the way your three workers pryed at my tire and wheel along with the metal clamps you used straight onto the wheel face. He kept saying well just work it out with my bosses and I'm sure they'll make it right but I can't let you take the car (It's a truck) without paying. I called the day prior to getting my valve stems replaced. They told me I had a set appointment for 3pm, I get there and he comes outside to write down my license plate (they see my truck with over size wheels and tires) then they say it'll be about 30-45 minutes before they get to my truck I said that's fine I'll go grab lunch. Came back at 3:30 gave them my keys and sat down. They didn't come back to me in the waiting room till 4:55 and said hey we can't do your truck we didn't realize you had over size wheels. They wasted 2 hours of my time after telling me I had a set appointment for 3pm just to tell me they couldn't doing it after seeing my truck prior. Stay away Went in for a state inspection, then they failed the car trying to charge $1200 for 4 brake pads, the front two rotors and a sway bar link. Went elsewhere for a second opinion and the car passed with nothing wrong with the brakes, and the sway bar link was minor enough to not be an issue, and the quote was much cheaper than what Mavis would have charged. Meanwhile at a prior visit for a different car, they passed it with an evap leak code showing up shortly after and audible and smellable exhaust leak. The appointment for the car that failed was in a female name, and the other car was in a male name. Extremely shady practices going on here. read more

I took my vehicle for an inspection yesterday (11/01/2021) failed safety inspection because **apparently** my suspension, brakes and rotors, and wheels were all bad. Found it fishy since I literally just checked everything, I decided to take it somewhere else and I passed with no issues. The inspector needs to get re-evaluated or reinspected himself because he's trash. He costed me 21$. No big deal but don't go here for inspections. read more

I'm no mechanic BUT... They have a great selection of tires indeed.. but 70$ for a balance on tires? People it's a machine and it doesn't take them much time or effort to work it. Usually balances are around 15-30$ just FYI if not included in the purchase of 4 new tires. Also, as the photo indicates, they said I was metal to metal on my brake pads.. I replaced the brake pads myself and the proof is in the pudding as they say, still had plenty of brake pad. read more

Came in for new tires. 1 was the wrong size and another one was leaking when they put it on and didn't even tell me until I was heading home and I pulled over and it was almost flat. I went back for them to fix it. They didn't have any new tires so I had to drive home on my doughnut and come back. Now a few weeks later my car is shaking horribly. It's almost like they didn't do any balancing to the tires or align anything like I payed for. I had an appointment during the week was told it would take a hour, I get there and they tell me two hours. I told them I wouldn't be able stay that long and that I would reschedule. So today my appointment was at 8:00am, it is now 10:20 and they are telling my husband they don't have two tires to finish off my car! They have to go to another store just to get tires. How unorganized and time consuming. They didn't offer to take anything. The manager was not helpful, he didn't care clearly and said it's already a good price so it's not possible. I am always happy with my service here. The manger Sony knows me on a first name basis on sight. Today I got my summer tires out on, serpentine belt replaced, and a new battery. I only came in to get the belt and tires done. They just warned me about the battery said I didn't need to replace it this second but it was leaking some acid. I chose to replace it, I was Already there you know. He came out with the belt to show me all the cracks on it, which I always like to see how bad things were. The waiting room was clean and did have Tv to watch while I waited. *BEWARE* I took my 2020 car here for inspection and they FAILED it stating that I need to replace the tires & wiper blades. Wiper blades are whatever. But I found it highly insane that I needed to replace the tires on a 2020 vehicle with less than 25,000 miles. I brought my car to a different place and it PASSED inspection. I will never go to Mavis/Cole on Arsenal St. again. Long story short the sales manager adds in services that I didn't need or even asked for. They cost a lot then says he is giving me a discount by giving me a coupon(sounded great), but the discount is for less than what the added service is. He told me he was "throwing them in" (as in on the house) saying he was giving me a deal then charging me for a service you didn't ask for. I had to return for a break issue that was caused by them. He said he would warranty out the parts, and when I check they were never changed. Brought my car in for a new tire and possibly a new rim. Owner contacted me a day after drop off and told me I needed a new rim as I was suspecting. I kid you not the car was in the shop for a good 4-5 days while they were trying to look for a new rim. He contacted me the day after the drop off and told me that the people who were giving him the rim weren't open till Monday so I'd have to wait till then to see if they have it in stock. No issue I understand, but I started getting angry when I contacted them Monday night and the rim still wasn't on the car. I drove by the shop the get some stuff out of my car and found the car in the exact same spot I parked it in when I dropped it off. I couldn't believe they didn't even bother to touch the vehicle! That just solidified it was forgotten about. I picked up the car on Tuesday, and was charged $350 for a new tire and rim. Sounds like a reasonable price if the rim didn't look like it was taken off a car from 1952 and all rusted. The guy working told me it would be used but I wasn't expecting what I got for the price I paid. Save your time and money and please don't do business with Mavis on Arsenal. I purchased tires and had an appointment set. Upon arriving for my appointment early to check in I was told it was going to be an additional 3 hours before my vehicle would even get into the shop. What's the point in setting up an appointment if your not even getting a service done at that time. Worst part I even called to confirm my appointment. I get things happen however ass a business owner myself you make things happen to keep your customers happy and stand by your appointments as close as you can. After I said I will just have my tires installed at another location convenient they said they could get my vehicle in at my appointment time . No thanks bad business practices. I have always had a good experience here until they fixed my U-joint in my rear drive shaft and found a crack in my yoke and did not call me about it and then proceeded to weld it. When I came to pick up my truck they told me they welded it and it should last 6 months so I said ok. I made it 1 like Down 81 and the yoke broke and my drive shaft broke and flew out the back of my truck on the highway. Brought truck bad to them and they said I am at fault and need to pay for new parts. Will never use this location again. read more

Long story short went to Mavis to get new tires and alignment , plus have front end check. They did all the above accept check the front end. Drove to Dover Delaware with the front end clanking noise and squeaky brakes , where we had someone else check and sure enough the brakes where shot on passengers side and the strut was broken up top. Called Mavis to discuss this and let them know what happened , before we could even discuss everything the I don't care attitude ppl get came upon the assistant manger Erik. Erik didn't want to listen to what the issue was, nore did Erik want to fix it. Erik went as far as to hang up on us and then refused to answer when we called back. When someone did finally answer they said they was a mechanic named Shawn. Which Shawn had the same care free attitude as Erik and proceeded to just laugh at us. We ended are call with Shawn on that note and proceeded to go into the location this am. So we get to the location 5 mins before they open and we wait. As I proceed in i could tell they knew I was coming as they left me standing in the lobby for about 5 mins. That's went the store manager of 7 years came in Sonny and asked me what was wrong. I proceeded to tell him and before I could even get everything explained. He started asking me to calm down and lower my voice. All while he is raising his and smirking and laughing. Which was rude. Sunny Said he didn't care to see brakes or strut that came off the car. He was basically bullying me and trying to intimidate me. He then kicked me out of the store and refused to correct there wrong doing. Either way. Waiting for a call from the regional manager. We will see where we go from here. Had some tires mounted, balanced and aligned here. The alignment cost $90, yet when we left, it was pulling even worse than before. We took it back so they could fix it and got all kinds of attitude about it. They took care of it, but as soon as we left, the 4WD started acting up. The balancing weights also completely fell off one of the tires. Again, we took it back in. Again, more attitude. They fixed the weights claiming it wasn't their fault, but told us to go to the dealer to fix our 4WD actuator which just happened to be leaking. The dealership charged us $100 to fix an air leak with the actuator that was never an issue until Mivas got their hands on our truck. Terrible customer service, shoddy work and bad ethics. I took my car in to have an inspection and the rear tires replaced as there was a nail in one of them. I came back later that day and had to wait an extra 45 minutes because they changed the wrong tires yet STILL passed it for inspection. Luckily, I caught the mistake and when I inquired about making it right, the manager, Sonny, flipped a switch. He went from being very friendly to completely patronizing and condescending. He said that I should be grateful that I wasn't charged for the time it took to fix his mistake. I then contacted his boss, the regional manager I assume, and he did nothing to insure that the manager would be implicated in any way. Not only that, but he irritatedly inquired how I was able to get his contact information. I will never use this business again. When I first moved to the Watertown/ Fort Drum area this was the first auto mechanic location my wife and I went to. On our first trip they told us we needed a brand new inner tie rod, and gave us an estimate. After getting the tie rod repaired the price was significantly higher than than the quote. When bringing my wife's car in it was the same issue a bad inner tie rod I was suspicious at this point so I took it to multiple different auto shops and they said that the tie rod was just fine. Don't trust Sonny they'll do work on your vehicle that doesn't need to be done and charge you to the full extent they can for it, they take advantage of anyone they possibly can. I will try to dissuade anyone I can from ever going to this establishment again. read more

Hey mavis just want to thank you for the arsenal street location in Watertown New York and straight up refusing to change the ball joints that I needed replacing, for that I almost died on the highway because of that failing! It wouldn't be so bad, but your regional manager made sure I knew they weren't responsible even though they refused to replace the thing I came in to replace. I sure want everyone to know how well you take care of your customers especially after being the reason they encounter life threatening circumstances!
