Overall this place was a good option for a slow Sunday morning. We chose this place because sure we have driven by it 100's of times but it's never been a fitting time to sit and eat so we tried it this past weekend. I liked our extensive their menu was. There were things for everyone whether you want lunch or breakfast. I ordered the Chorizo omelette and it was great. The crispy potatoes were also really great. They have fun kids meals with smiley faces too. The atmosphere was fun as they had tic tac toe outside with old frying pans. You could tell the owner put thought behind a lot of their decorations. My only thing I didn't love was that they offered a free app the "pancake sticks" on Yelp for checking in and he said they don't do those anymore and didn't have anything that replaced it. I recently moved to Longwood and after finding Max and Meme, I am recommending it to all my friends as a great casual family brunch spot. Hearty portions, fresh and fast cooking, and friendly service all have me coming back for more. I'd recommend the Greek omelette, hash browns, and club sandwich. Their bread is baked fresh and delicious. My wallet loves this place too. They even have $4 mimosas. I love me some mom and pop restaurants, sometimes a break from the chain of typical restaurants is needed. A friend of ours recommended this place to meet up since they are regulars here. I was glad that we got here pretty early, because they filled up pretty fast! When you drive by the restaurant, their sign advertises big ASSet of Pancakes and omelets, and mimosas are served all day! So I wanted to see how big these pancakes were, so I took a look at the various options, and decided on the best sounding pancake; the bacon pancake. The order comes with 2 pancakes, and at first I was disappointed because I feared that I'd still be hungry, not knowing how big the pancake actually were, but once the plate was dropped in front of me, I knew I had no need to worry as these pancakes could be split amongst two people! They were cooked well, and the bacon was nice and crispy on the inside! I definitely got my filling for sure! So I'm giving Max and Memes three stars because the service lacked after receiving our food. Our server was nice, however it got the point that our beverages weren't refilled, nor were any empty plates picked up. When a table has every seat filled, that can cause a crowded table. I've been here a few times and finally am getting a chance to get a review up. This is your run of the mill breakfast/brunch/lunch spot with no frills. Waitresses and waiters are friendly and you get what you pay for. I ordered their Carolina Crunchy Chicken Salad and it was good. Salad was fresh and the chicken was actually pretty crunchy AND tasty. Loved the breading. It just wasn't something I'd go back for. My son got the chicken and waffles and I believe the chicken he got was was the same chicken on my salad. The hubby ordered a burger and his bottom bun was so soggy from the burger he has to request a new one. Finally, my youngest got a tuna sandwich and sadly, it didn't have much flavor. Loved the $3.99 mimosas. That was my fave. The country fried steak was good, but I've had larger portions for cheaper. My other guest did not like the eggs Benedict at all. The tomato on there made the English muffin soggy. When questioned why tomato was on there, the answer was "that's how eggs Benedict is made". Hmmmm. Not a classic one but ok. All I needed was to see their sign advertising "Big A** Pancakes and Omelettes". I immediately had to try them and get one or both of those things. We walked in and were seated immediately by a young man named Franc who seemed to be all alone taking care of six tables at once. However, he was on top of it all. One quibble we had was that they were out of OJ. Truly no big deal, we can deal with that. I just happened to be craving it this morning. When checking in via Yelp, there's an offer (at least currently) for a free order of pancake sticks. Franc informed us that this item is no longer available, so instead he offered a single pancake. We took him up on the offer. That thing is huge. Took up the full plate and was nice and fluffy and in no way heavy on the stomach. I ordered the "loaded" omelette which was amazing- so much sausage, ham, bacon and cheese inside. Almost more filling than egg. For nicely butter pieces of toast and hash browns. My son got the M&M Club which was a great, triple layered sandwich with thick enough slices of ham and turkey that he could have eaten them as his meal. He mistakenly got the potatoes as his side after ordering fruit - but Franc immediately fixed that.) the potatoes were crisp and tasty and the fruit fresh. I could make the drive for that pancake everyday if I needed to. Service was great, very friendly and fast. Trendy this place is not but it's simple breakfast dishes are comforting and make you feel like a member of the family. The menu stays true to the classics and doesn't stray into anything upscale. This place draws a large Sunday morning crowd! Luckily we were able to be seated and served fairly quickly in spite of the masses. The couple of servers working this morning held it down very well considering how much hustle they had to put forth. I appreciated the fact that our server left a large carafe of hot coffee on our table so we could refresh our cups as needed. After topping off my coffee one or two times, I was presented with the perfect plate of banana stuffed French toast. The bread was crisp and the bananas plentiful! What I loved most was the contrast of the mild cheese filling to the sweetness of strawberry syrup topping. The textures and taste added up to a perfect balance. I can't wait to come back to max and meme's kitchen for some more breakfast classics. I'll definitely go for an omelette or pancake next time BUT next time might have to be on a weekday for me. Also throughout the entire hour and 20 minutes sitting there the manager did a table touch at the very end and it wasn't a "sorry I noticed your food took a long time" it was just "hey I'm the manager how is everything." I have been a server for 9 years and I love going out to eat as much as I can and I mean it when I say this was the worst service I've ever received. I'm a former Club Level trainer for Ritz Carlton Hotels, having managed F&B presentations for years. I'm also a former culinary student and foodie who has traveled and eaten in over 30 countries around the world. I know what to expect out of (even) a casual diner breakfast. This restaurant charges approximately the same prices for an omelet as IHOP or Keke's Breakfast Cafe, but delivers a much lower quality product. The omelets were both blandly seasoned, overcooked, and the chorizo somehow congregated to only one half of my girlfriend's omelette. My sliced tomatoes were nicely salted, hers were not seasoned at all. The bacon was incredibly low quality and tasteless. And the green peppers in my omelette had not been sauteed or roasted just soft and them before dumping them in with the eggs in the pan. As soon as put butts touched the seat, a waitress came over and asked if we would like any drinks. She was dressed as I think a vampire? It was 2 days before Halloween, so it made since. We perused the menu for a bit, and opted to both order the same thing: omelettes with ham, bacon, and sausage, toast, home fries and I ordered a side of fruit. The food was good, but my omelette was way too salty. I ate less than half. The decaf coffee was great, and the service was pretty okay. The few things I'll call out: we sat at a table that had no utensils, and was super rickety. We had to ask for silverware after the waitress dropped off our food, there was no water offered and we had to flag someone down to get refills on our coffee. A plus is that they will give you coffee to do, and only fill it halfway so it doesn't spill in your car. Our meal came to about $18 which was a steal based on the ton of food you get, will definitely visit again, it felt like I was eating at a friend's house where their grandma was serving you. I came across it as I had to deliver something and thought that looks like a cute place for some breakfast. The server commented on my shirt and seemed to make small talk with everyone by saying nice things. Really made you feel good. I ordered bacon, eggs, and potato. Server asked me what kind of potato I wanted. I said to surprise me and she asked questions to get to the best one. I would have been happy with any of the styles. I had an omelet once which was okay. The second time I had pancakes which is one of their signature dishes ("big-ass pancakes"). They were indeed big but not good. The texture was awful. We ate here again today with my daughter and she had the pancakes. After about two bites she said that they were so bad she couldn't eat them. Server never asked if there was a problem. The positives first: Friendly greeting at the door; impressive breakfast menu; good decaf coffee; tea box variety presented at table is a nice touch. Negatives: My husband ordered the "crispy" coconut/ brown sugar pancakes with strawberries. The pancakes are almost as big as the plate, but size doesn't always matter. The waiter described this pancake as "covered in brown sugar, caramelizing as it cooks". There was no "crispy" or coconut to be found and 5 little strawberry pieces in the top pancake and absolutely no strawberries in the bottom pancake. When my husband asked if he had the right order, the waiter said, it's probably because we're very busy. He had ordered tea, and the hot water came right away, but no tea with it. The waiter said he would come back with a tea box and it came about 15 mins later, after we reminded him. I ordered crispy bacon which came quite soggy and never got a coffee refill until we were finished with our meals. In a restaurant that is basically open for breakfast, with a few lunch items, there should be someone making coffee rounds, or a coffee pot on the table. This place was definitely below average. We stood there for several minutes before even being greeted. They had plenty of staff that passed us and very few guests seated. When they finally acknowledged us they took a few more moments before seating us. Then as she walked us to the table she actually grabbed a menu from my boyfriends hand because it wasn't the right menu for the weekend. It was a bit rude but we ignored her behavior. Once seated she took our drink order and returned with them a few moments later. My boyfriend looked up and after thanking her for the beverages he asked for just a few more minutes to look over the menu. She turned, walked away, and glanced back to laugh and tell us that she wasn't our server (very aggressively). Again, rude and a bit awkward. When our waitress came over we were pleased with how pleasant she was. She was just about the only thing that kept us from leaving. Finally we ordered and decided to try several breakfast items and a sandwich from the lunch menu. The waffle was awesome, probably one of the best we've ever had. The batter was absolutely delicious. The breakfast sandwich was good but not great. The M&M club was incredibly bland. The fries were not cooked and the hash browns looked like they had been on the grill for only a few seconds. The grits were grainy and definitely undercooked. The meat lovers scramble was ok but there was gravy underneath everything (accident or intentional, I'm not sure) and it was tasteless.
