Let me start off by saying that in the last few years I have become a total jerk when it comes to the food industry. (To much Gordon Ramsey). I tend to be very critical, and I will be here too. First off, you would find it very difficult to spend more than ten bucks on a breakfast here. I payed $3.99 for eggs, toast, grits and coffee. The waitress when she saw us drive up actually came out and opened the door for us. Very impressive to say the least. The place was busy but it did not seem to impact on the service. Service was friendly, and personal, but very professional. Willie Degal would have been impressed. The food was cooked to perfection. Everything fresh, and I even went to look at the kitchen in the back. It was beyond clean. You needed sunglasses just to look at all the polished steel. The chef is an out and out master. I am talking like Iron Chef type of material. The food is simple fare, moderately priced, and perfectly cooked. The menu is a perfect size giving just the right amount of choice without having to read a book to decide what you want. We have been back twice since that time and it is now our go-to place for breakfast and lunch. Dinner no, sorry, we work when other people are eating dinner or else it would be our dinner place also. If you are expecting the place to look like Emerils, you are at the wrong place. But you are not paying Emerils prices or 1/2 or Emerils prices or even 1/4 of Emerils prices. You get the best quality food and service in a simple neighborhood Diner/Restaurant. For these prices and quality of food and service, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYONE!! read more

The staff was very great and very helpful! The food was amazing and the prices weren't bad at all. Really fast service too. Outside there is a small little put put that is perfect for kids and they love playing with it. They also gave us some complimentary bread pudding at the end of the stay that tasted amazing and was a great treat for great service!! read more

Attempted to try this spot for breakfast with my boyfriend and was very kindly NOT greeted at the host stand. The "host" if you can even call him that walked by us two times saying that he would be with us shortly and then proceeded to grab himself a drink & walk into the back and then at a later time walked past us to go to the bathroom..... There were about 5 open tables available. We were one of three groups of people waiting to be seated. There was a party of 10 in front of us and party of 2 behind us. There "wasn't enough room" for the party of 10 to be seated which is debatable but we got forgotten solely because that was a larger party...??? I understand that things get busy but this was just not the case. Not to mention every server in the building kept looking over at us like they knew us waiting for 20 minutes was a problem that no one wanted to solve. Better management needed. Fire the short man with glasses that has zero sense of urgency. Will never return. read more

What you'd except breakfast menu, outstanding and unique lunch menu, cheap but big enough to make a big guy full. Great desserts, especially the tres leches. Has dinner-like choices for people who want something else for lunch, which are also excellent. Personal favourites are the chicken Caesar, Cajun omelette, and the meatloaf. read more

Does exactly what it says on the tin. This isn't the best place to eat in town, but it's service was good and the food was above average. It isn't a date restaurant or great for large groups. But if your looking for decent food at a reasonable cost, or need some breakfast or lunch before this place fits the bill. It has a real corner working class feel with friendly staff. Went here again last weekend, service was slow, but the food was great! Everything appeared to be cooked to order, including home fries and grits.. Most places cook all the side items and keep them hot, then just cook the eggs to order and add the sides to the plate .. I think that's why the service is a little slow here.. This is not a "greasy spoon" type place so be prepared for a little wait, it's worth it! Will go back again when not in a bit of a hurry. read more

My friend and I went in there and place 3 breakfast orders to go. Victoria took our orders. I paid for my order and Victoria handed me my change. My friend who is black paid for her order and had her hand out for her change. Victoria placed her change on the counter and acted as if she was afraid to touch my friend. I was extremely disappointed in all the orders. No condiments what so ever. One order was French Toast --no butter, no syrup just a big piece of under-cooked bread. The second order was a bacon cheese omelet with mushrooms, peppers and onions -- what I got was a scrambled egg with everything mixed in and a piece of crumbled bacon on the side, toast with no butter or jelly. The third order was a budget breakfast, with runny scrambled eggs. All 3 of us through everything in the garbage. This morning I went by to make the complaint, and was informed that they had no manager and that I could either come in later when the owner was there or post a review. read more

I'm giving a tentative 3 stars for potential, otherwise it would be a 2. First time for breakfast. Omelets excellent. Service agonizingly slow. A week later for breakfast. Omelets burned and dry. Service friendly but again agonizingly slow. Did not seem accepting of special requests. Did not want to switch out items, such as maybe a fruit cup instead of toast. Then actually charging 50 cents more for a dried up lump of a biscuit instead of toast. Website indicates they are all about customer service but doesn't seem to translate to the floor. Reading a number of reviews on various sites does not paint a pretty picture. Even if a restaurant is new a good server can make all the difference from day one. I'll give it a month and try again. My brother and I come here every so often. It's not my first choice for breakfast but he likes it. Unfortunately today was not the greatest experience. We got seated right away, however after about 10 minutes of being there after we got our coffee, our server tells us the kitchen is backed up. That was fine, however, she didn't tell us immediately that she couldn't take our order until they caught up. It was another 15 minutes or so until she told us she was able to put our order in. When it came out, there were problems with our food, but at that point we didn't want to cause problems so we fixed it ourselves. read more

This was my third, and last time eating at Max & Meme's. The first two times probably warranted a 2 or 3 star raiting, but my latest experience garnered the 1 star raiting. There was no compalints about the food on the first two visits, but the service could've used some work. Our serve, the same girl we had today, i believe her name was Candy. Her attitude is not one i would expect from soneone who's income is based off tips. This most recent experience was a perfect storm of mediocrity. I ordered the scrambler with hash browns and wheat toast. My friend ordered a bacon and cheese omelet that came out burnt. My eggs were fine, a bit runny but that's not a huge deal. My hashbrowns were cold and seemingly stale. My toast was closer to bread. And the coffee refill came around sparingly. When we went to pay, and i brought up that i didnt eat any of my breakfast she server said the best she could do was to take $2 off of our check, and she didnt have the authority to comp my meal. In conclusion the uncomfortable seating, dated upholstery, terrible music, unedible food, and the fact that I had to pay $10 for a meal I didn't eat, are all reasons why I will never return to max and Meme's. read more

I have visited Max and Meme's many times with my family. The food and service has always been nice and enjoyable. On Sunday, January 20, I was served eggs and potatoes. At first glance, one of my potatoes had a hair on it. I moved that potato onto another plate because I don't like to complain. Half way through my meal and conversation with a friend, I bit into something hard, but it was too late and I had swallowed what ever it was. I then looked down on my plate and mixed in near my potatoes was a METAL NAIL/SCREW on my plate (about 2mm long). The waitress came over at that exact moment that we discovered it and quickly took the plate away. A few moments later, the manager began to question me on how a clean nail could end up on a plate? He "apologized" but continued to question ME and told me to have a nice day/leave. I explained the situation with the hair on my potato and then the nail, but his only response was to continue questioning ME and telling me to have a nice day. I was completely insulted by this experience. Instead he should have been questioning all of his staff and the work environment, to make sure something like this didn't fall into someone's food again. I was not angry at the hair and nail in my food, just surprised, and was not given much time to react, but was completely insulted when I was then accused for their shortfall. Needless to say, we will never return to dine at a restaurant that is (1) unsanitary (2) disrespectful to their customers (3) left me hungry!!! read more

we came for lunch ,i seen this place for few years i was glad that survive road constractiion ,hostes was right there to seat as,but took 10 min and complain to hostes to get service,after we order food ,my fish was just to salty,and i am from Croatia,we salt everything,but not good,my wife BLT was great franch freeze was good they replace my fish with pot roast ,which was really good,,i have to say manager was good he came to our table and address problems gave as free dessert ,but wait staff needs training ,still on fance if will go back read more

Mom-and-Pop, great food, great prices, excellent service all three times we've visited. The only con I have is the music is a little too loud and a little too old. I can look past that because the food is really tasty and it's a delightfully affordable restaurant. I've had their hamburger and it was thick and tasted great, have had the pot roast one rainy cold (even in Florida) day and it hit the spot. Oh, and they serve delicious bread pudding with your meal! STAY AWAY!!! Well for those of you who previously posted about waiting forever to even have your drink order taken, fear not! Now they don't even let you sit down before taking your drink order! How rude! At least let me sit down instead of making me feel rushed to get me order and get me out of there before I even sit down! This was my second try at giving this place a chance and I should have learned my lesson the first time...The first time I heard a customer debating with the chef about making things the way the customer requests, not the way he wants to. I then found out why. I had ordered eggs benedict without the tomato. Surprise, it came with tomato. When I pointed it out to the waitress, she pretty much reiterated the conversation I had heard from the chef earlier, and that he does things his way She offered to take it back but I had already waited too long and had to eat what I had gotten and get going. I did comment to the manager mentioned in several of the other posts that he won't be in business long if that's the way the chef is going to operate. I got no apology, nothing. Well today wasn't any better. My daughter ordered a salad. Her first bite she picked up a crouton and spit it out. I tried one and it had a pungent taste. Maybe sourdough? I asked the waiter if he knew what type of bread they were made from and said he didn't. I explained that they had a strange, strong taste and that she didn't want it and ordered something to replace it. Of course I should have know when I got my bill it would still be on there. The waiter had taken half the cost off only. I was told I would need to talk with the manager. When I asked why it was on the bill at all he replied that the waiter should not have taken anything off and that when he takes his kids out to eat he always pays full price even if he kids don't like it. When I explained that I had also tried the croutons and that I didn't like them either and that they tasted strange, he just kept saying that they were fresh and he has never gotten any complaints. I told him that I was actually giving them a second chance after a bad experience my first time, but if he was going to charge for something she hadn't even taken a bite of, only eaten one crouton, that I'll pay the bill, never be back and be writing a review online as soon as I get home. He just continued to lecture me about paying for food my kid doesn't like! Service wasn't great either time I was there. my husband and I have visited this restaurant on many occasions and it really depends on who is cooking on weather the food is good. every time we go and I see that the cook (chef) who wears all black attire is there I am very happy because the food he makes is absolutely outstanding. When we go and he is not there I have never eaten anything that was halfway decent and its always disheartening to have to pay for food that wasn't prepared the way the chef makes it. if I could only know when that chef works that's be the only days i'd choose to eat there read more

We were heading to another restaurant we found on Yelp, but passed by and decided to give this cute place a try. Great choice! Jennifer, our server, was very nice and helpful with the menu. our meals were quick and cheap and super yummy!! We ordered the Texas toast grilled cheese on rye, I asked for tomatoes and they happily added them to my sandwich! My bf ordered the tuna pocket and a side of potato salad.. Both were delicious! My experience started off with two servers arguing over where we would be sat. Then the person who sat us took our drink order and never brought them. Our actually waiter came to our table about 7 minutes later and took our drink orders again. The coffee was very weak and had a horrible flavor. My wife ordered a omelet, bacon and home fries. The bacon had a very odd flavor and appeared to be deep fried. I ordered corn beef hash and eggs. Little did I know it would all be mixed together. My wife and I just had lunch there today and we had a nice experience. Okay, let's get some things straight. This was at noon on a Monday and due to the heavy continuous construction on 434 I'm betting that all the local restaurant is this section on the street are dying, so Max & Meme Cafe is not immune. To say the place was dead would be an understatement. However, we were alive and well, as was our server. She was witty and quick and realized how slow it was but kept a good attitude about it. From the outside, this place looks like it's going to be really cute. The building looks great and the signage is sharp but inside it looks like Denny's. The redeeming thing about the inside is it's very clean. Cleanliness is critical for a restaurant, so we turned a blind eye to the lack of people and aging decor. We ordered from the breakfast menu and the ticket time must have been under 4 minutes. It came out flying! The food was decent. Nothing spectacular. The price was the craziest thing. I think everything on the menu is under 10 bucks. Our meals combine set us back 16 dollars. We're talkin' Waffle House prices here! With the friendly staff, speed of service and our curiosity to try the lunch menu, we'll be back. I hope these guys survive the next 10-15 years of construction on 434. They're one year in and hanging in there but people need to visit more often to give them any sort of stability and longevity. Gimme a try. read more

This place is clean and new, but that is about all it has going for it. This place is right up the street from my office, not even a block a way. I do not think it should take me an hour and a half to have lunch. I've been there a total of 3 times and each time was worse than the last. The last time, is what did me in. It took us 10 minutes to get our waitress to come to our table and even take our drink orders. After we placed our orders, it took us between 30-40 minutes to get our food. They also love to sprinkle parsley or oregano all over whatever they cook, which is gross and dries it out. The food is quite over priced. It took us almost an hour of being there, before we got our food. It took forever for us to get our checks. After we had gotten our checks, we put our cards with them, expecting our waitress to collect them and cash us out. Apparently she had been cut for the day and figured she could just go home, with out finishing with her current customers. We watched her walk out the door with her to-go cup, get in her car, and drive away. We waited a few minutes and figured she wasnt coming back. We walked up to the counter/register and the ONLY other server there, gave us a stupid look and said "What you didnt pay yet?" We should have said we did, and than just left. But we paid and left and vowed never to return. The food wasnt good, the service was terrible. They all stood in the kitchen and talked. BUT YOU CAN SEE IN THE KITCHEN. It was just a horrible experience and I felt very disrespected and unappreciated for giving them our business. I was a server for 7 years and this would have never flown. And they didnt even apologize or give us a discount when we said it took extra long to get our drinks and food and our waitress had just walked out on us.
