We debated after breakfast 3 or 4 stars but since I had the super crunchy bacon and IM writing the review I'm going with 3! Fianceè had the bacon onion skillet which was very good. I of course had French toast which doesn't surprise anyone, it was pretty good but my side of bacon was way over cooked which I wasn't crazy about so I offered everyone a piece, which I normally don't :)! Ole omelette was ordered and some pancakes too by others which everyone enjoyed. Service started out very slow but once our server arrived she was great, very personable and helpful! Where do I begin? Let me start by saying that this restaurant is a gem! We needed to host Easter brunch on a short notice. I called around to a few local restaurants: Demitri was by far the courteous manager I spoke with. My order was relatively small and while most restaurants turned me down, he took my order as if it mattered. That feeling of being important is far and few between these days. I was glad to hear they closed early because that tells me their employees were given time with their families. As for the food, we ordered pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hash browns. My favorite was their sausage. The pancakes were so fluffy and generous in size. My family boasted about the eggs. The hash-browns we prefer a little more brown and salty but we good just as they came. They provided us with butter, syrup, napkins, and silverware. Glad we found this place and we'll be back!! read more

I would not recommend this place as yesterday afternoon around130pm was my first time visiting Maxfields. Yesterday I visited Maxfields as it was recommended by one of my husbands friends. Upon walking in I was greeted by the hostess (very kind and sweet Hispanic woman) and I was seated near a long bench close to restrooms. (Not an issue as the place was clean). Upon receiving our food which was great and in a timely manner, there was a waitress just being very rude with customers and repeatedly cursing when walking by us. (A skinny white woman with long dirty blonde hair and glasses around 60 years of age). Fast forward about 20 minutes later another waitress (young girl Hispanic around early 20s with a bun on her hair and hoop earrings) we witness her putting on a red coat and walking towards the front of restaurant walks past by this waitress (the older one with long dirty blonde hair). About a minute after they walk by each other the older woman begins to yell and scream like a mad woman that the young one hit her ( never happened as we witnessed the whole thing). Even after they walked by each other the older woman called the young waitress a cu^#. Approximately a few seconds later she runs to the bathroom and we hear her yelling at someone in the bathroom and then comes out and slams the door so hard the glasses on our table shook. At this point I'm so uncomfortable that this is happening and no one is putting a stop to this woman running around the restaurant cursing and lying about this other young waitress hitting her. The young waitress remained calm and calmly told her I did not put my hands on you. At this point about 3 to 4 other waitresses begin to comfort the young waitress as she is being unfairly blamed for something she did not do. (I can confirm that this young waitress did not put her hands on this woman. Also there was an older dark skinned Hispanic busboy looked about 40 years of age who was also present at the time that can also confirm this story as he saw everything that this poor girl DID NOT assault this waitress. I would love to speak to the owner concerning this issue. If the owner reads this please be waiting for my call. It is unjust that a waitress gets unfairly accused of false accusations from this woman's lies. It shook me to my core that something like this was happening in front of myself and other customers who witnessed this terrible issue at this restaurant. I am appalled that this woman was not stopped or told to leave as she continued to yell that this young woman hit her as customers were trying to eat their food. To the owner please speak to your staff as there was many witnesses as to what happened yesterday. I feel terrible for the young waitress who was doing her job and accused of such terrible lies. I will be calling to speak to the owner and I will also contact the village as this is harassment and bullying towards this waitress whom I seen do absolutely nothing wrong. read more

This place is terrible. Doesnt even deserve a star. The waitress wreaks of cigarettes and my wife got a plate of fruit crepes with canned fruit and syrup and the sausage is like a hockey puck. i have no idea how this place got the rating it did.. love the fact that the waitress never said hello and never came out of the back. My time at Maxfield's was full of satisfaction. The overall look of the place reminds me of a log cabin from the exterior. However, there is little parking area, which was not a huge conflict for my family and I. The inside lighting was dim, but that's what made the place unique. The decor was very basic however, some plants here and there and paintings on the walls, but Maxfields made me feel at home with their simplistic decor. Booths and tables were like iHop's. The placement of everything made the room look crowded yet very spacious in an equivalent way. The waitresses/waiters were veritably nice. All had luminous smiles on their faces, which made my time there feel welcoming and warm. The hostesses, like any other place, are quite welcoming and patient. Their food came out just right, nothing was burnt, undercooked, or not cooked at all. The deliciousness of the food could make me go there everyday. I'm not a breakfast person but my daughter and her boyfriend love this place sooooo I decided that I would go with them. I ordered the bacon, hash browns with cheese, coffee and their potato pancakes (yuck) I sent the potato pancakes back they were not good at all (gummy). The coffee was just okay as was the pancakes. The service was fast and friendly but overall it's just another family pancake restaurant. read more

Maxfields is a cute family restaurant that made me feel like I'd gone back in time 20 years. The decor is very homey. The menu contains all the basic items that you'd expect from a traditional American restaurant/diner. I joked that they were trying to fatten you up because the sandwiches are served with soup, fries and coleslaw. Yes, that's an AND not an OR. I ended up ordering the mushroom and asparagus breakfast skillet which came with hash browns, two eggs and toast. There was something a little off about the taste of the asparagus. I couldn't quite place it. Everything else was fine and about what you'd expect. Nothing fancy, just filling. This wouldn't be my first choice of a restaurant, but I'd be okay with tagging along if that's where everyone else wants to go. read more

I used to order from Maxwell's all the time 2 years ago. The food is really good. But the last 4 times I have ordered from them through Grubhub, the food never arrived. Actually, that's not true. One of the times I ordered around 6:00 pm and the food arrived at 11:00 pm as I was getting ready for bed. And, needless to say, was fit only to be thrown in the trash. If you are eating at the restaurant it's really good. If you order through Grubhub it seems the food will never arrive and you will end up eating McDonalds or Dominoes at 9:00 pm or so. In all cases Grubhub did refund my money, but that seems small compensation for delaying my dinner until after my bedtime on a work night. read more

The family and I came here on a Saturday morning because we needed breakfast, and this place had such great reviews. I wasn't that impressed. I mean, nothing really stood out as being really amazing to me. It's not that the food was bad (although the french toast was burnt) but it was just sort of the same ol' same ol' of many other breakfast joints. My husband ordered a mexican omelet, and I ordered the veggie omelet, and the kids split a french toast. Everything was typical, but I did appreciate the amount of broccoli in my food. It was good. The pancakes that came with the meal didn't really stand out, but I had a bite of my husband's food and it was pretty good chorizo. They actually close at 9 and not 10pm like it says on google. don't go in if you're planning on having a meal after 8:30. when you say "how are you doing" they'll tell you they're closed rudely instead of saying anything back. read more

Went here with the SO after trying to find a cheap breakfast place, and we were both a fan. He's been here several times before and knew what to expect. I ordered the #3 special (eggs, sausage, french toast, and bacon), and enjoyed it. He had the Southern Eggs Benedict and also enjoyed it. Our bill for two meals and two drinks came to around $18 before tip, so it was well worth the price. We were happy with the service and meals. read more

I give Maxfield's 2 stars after what I experienced today. My boyfriend and I like to eat here on the weekends and usually enjoy ourselves. The waitress we had this morning was horrible. She walked away from the table as I was requesting a side of salsa mid-sentence. There were zero refills of our beverages, and not once did she come by to see how everything was. I wish that she did since I found huge pieces of avocado skin in my veggie omelette. To top it off, the owner or manager in front when told of our experience just smiled and said, "Oh, where were you sitting?" And honestly he really didn't look like he cared and was ready to shoo us out the door. Food is average, good price for the quantity/quality, but the service is hit or miss apparently. The way we were treated today makes me reconsider ever eating there again. read more

Have been to Maxfield's many times for breakfast and lunch -- this is a summary review. Portion size is outstanding and always filling, appreciate the bowl of soup that accompanies lunch, bread and rolls are plentiful and fresh, with a lunch one will receive a good sized order of french fries. The food is tasty. Waitress service is spotty, some are very attentive and bring the meal promptly, others are brusque but do their jobs, sometimes they disappear for periods of time. The owners manning the front register are very friendly and seem to sincerely appreciate their dining patrons. Maxfield's delivers excellent value for their prices!! read more

A couple of us went to Maxfields on July 8th and received terrible service from the staff. I ordered pancakes along with other items and the pancakes were cold (wouldn't even melt the butter). Another person ordered the steak Fajitas medium rare and they arrived well done. The waitress argued that they were medium rare. There was no pink at all in the steak. We had her replace it with a chicken Fajitas which had 4 little pieces of chicken in it. I wanted a salad and she informed us it was extra $3.50. We said ok and ordered it with Blue Cheese with extra Blue Cheese. She only brought 1 Blue Cheese container. Halfway through the salad we asked for our extra blue cheese. None arrived so we only ate half of the $3.50 salad. Had to wait for coffee. Had to get our own ketchup from the next table. Asked for sugar-free syrup when we ordered and had to remind them after the pancakes arrived (cold). Was this worth $25.00? Don't think so. read more

I AM a fan of Maxfield's. I can only comment on breakfast, but it's definitely worth a visit. My family and I have been here multiple times for hearty breakfasts. I love their breakfast quesadillas and my kids adore the pancakes. Another draw is the friendly service. The host always greets my husband with a handshake and we've found the waitresses and bussers to all be friendly. The service is a little slow, but as long as you go in knowing you will have to wait a bit, it's manageable. Maxfield's gives that small town, family-owned, multi-generational dining experience that the chain restaurants lack. Check it out! read more

Just visiting Schaumburg, IL for a wedding and found this place on Yelp, thanks to its high ratings. All I can say was that it's just ok - not great. The bacon was wispy, the has browns were tasteless and conventional. Even the toast was plain and dry. We tried their famous oven baked pancakes thinking they would be special, only to be disappointed. In essence it wasn't a pancake at all? But more like an apple streusel without the tasty frosting. On the bright side, the coffee was good. read more

Another place that i've written a (good) review for in the past, but it's somehow disappeared. Anyway, I go here often enough that I can write another one. This is really a great brunch place (or breakfast anytime place). The food is decent, the service is decent (though some waitresses could use a smile sometimes). And the prices aren't terrible. It also is a rather large place, so you are usually seated fairly quickly. Because it is rather large and popular, if you go at a peak time, it can be a bit noisy. The reason I came here was to update my previous review (which has somehow disappeared). The change is that they have raised prices recently. Their prices are on par without about every other average brunch type place now. They used to be the best place to go due to being a bit more affordable. There now is not really a reason to go here rather than other places in the area unfortunately, aside from being closer to here, or wanting to have some variety. But, it is a decent place. read more

Let's face it, breakfast food is the only food that matters. Any place that can get me my pancake fix is a winner to me. Maxfield's gives absurdly large portions and their pancakes are delicious. The service can be a little slow, but I attribute that to the large crowds (usually of old people) that we always seem to encounter. The bread basket they bring out in the beginning is full of stale and tasteless rolls, so don't bother with that.
