Regularly, the staff can make or break a restaurant, and in this case, our server, Shannon, was great. She was easy to speak with, knew her menu, and gave us great recommendations. We decided to try Maxim's for a late lunch and found it busy all day. We had a hard time deciding because the menu is widely varied. We learned that there is a basement bakery where all pasta and bakery goods are made fresh in-house. The food flavors prove this to be true, and all the food is very tasty. We had the patty melt and were served a large and very well-done dish. The fries are delish! We also ordered the Turkey Avocado BLT on Foccacia, which was huge and also very tasty. There was no room for dessert, but I imagine it would be wonderful too. The pricing is appropriate for the large servings. It is a good place for small or large groups. read more

Food is priced way too high compared to other steak restaurants. Our server Braden was very good. Took care of us and talked to us briefly, which was very nice. The inside I know is a train station, but it does look hard and cold. Maybe it needs more artificial plants and flowers. read more

Second time visiting this restaurant and this time for breakfast. Great menu, fair prices and the place is always hopping and they turn tables quickly. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns. The hash smelled and tasted of white vinegar. Why? I've had hash at lots of places and never ever had it smelled and tasted of vinegar. Would never order that again. Hubby ordered his favorite biscuits and gravy and said it was the worst he had ever had. The food was delightful, but the service that Micheal gave was utterly atrocious. To his credit we were greeted relatively quickly once we sat down but that is when the service declined significantly. Our food was brought out individually in 5 minute intervals. He never checked on us once our food hit the table and he waltzed around the restaurant holding my card, not running it mind you, while the rest of my friends were figuring out their cards. Once he finally ran my card he tried to stand over me while I was signing the receipt. Stopped by with some family on a Sunday morning and we are so glad we did! This is the perfect diner vibe place with such friendly and helpful staff. We came at around 11 so some of our group got lunch and some breakfast. Everything was absolutely incredible! The pancakes were fluffy. The eggs were flavorful and seasoned/cooked perfectly with great quality ingredients. The portions are huge and can definitely be multiple meals or shared. Took by dad to lunch at a place he likes. He warned me that the crowd here is pretty old and he was right. I thought I was in the dining room of a senior living complex. Despite the atmosphere the service and the food were very good. My dad got the 1/2 sandwich and soup special which he really liked. I opted for their gyro which was huge and quite good. I ate at Maxims on a Saturday afternoon with a group of around 12. This place is perfect for that. We got there a bit before the reservation and the table was ready. Everything went smoothly from ordering, to paying. I really appreciated that as sometimes it can be a hassle to get separate checks or to eat with a group. I ordered a skillet off of the breakfast menu and found the portions to be great and it was tasty too. No one complained about their food so that's a good sign also. This place is large and is great to bring groups, or to stop in for a casual meal. read more

We've gone to Maxim's for years now. The first thing we notice is how the prices have jumped. We used to be able to eat there for $40 w/o tip. Now it is over $60 w/o tip for the same food that we've always had. The other thing is that we don't recognize the staff there anymore. With that, the new waitstaff do need more training. We've sat there in the booth without even being noticed for a long time. We've had to ask for rolls a couple times before they actually brought them. This last visit, we had an omelette & the side we ordered was the honey vinaigrette salad. Well, when the food came, there were hash browns as the side (which we didn't want). On top of that, we were charged an extra $5 for the salad (which was the side that it should have come with). We didn't want to make a fuss so we paid the $63. That is quite pricey considering we only had water to drink & the other dishes were shrimp scampi & liver. This last visit makes us not want to come back. read more

Maxims does a really great breakfast! I don't know if it's because it's by a church or what, but Sunday mornings this place is always swamped even though the restaurant itself is huge. I've come here many times with my family and I really appreciate the full bar they have here. Every time I come home to Wisconsin I stop here and folks don't know how luck they are to have such a place. In LA, if they bring your food, that's half the size and twice the price, without messing up your order they're expecting a 30% tip on top of a 10% state and local sales tax. Though we haven't ventured out much during the Covid-19 pandemic, we have joined about 30 family members for a couple of post funeral meals at some local establishments over the last few months. The first one, some place in Wauwatosa, was eminently forgettable--a one star Yelp review from me--at best. At Maxims I ordered essentially the same meal--a pork chop dinner. On a sliding scale, Maxims' pork chop dinner was "ten stars to one star" better than the other establishment. That said, Maxims' food is not "haute cuisine." It's basic, family style restaurant food. But the meat was tender and moist with a nicely fried crunchy breading. The sauce and seasoning were decently seasoned. The sides made sense and complimented the protein. I was well satisfied with the food and service. I've eaten at Maxims several times before this dinner -- usually breakfasts. The place is big and usually very busy. The kitchen cranks out a ton of food at a good pace. And so far, everything I've had was fine, though not spectacular. Most people will be satisfied with the food and service. I'll be happy to dine here again if circumstances bring me back -- but it wouldn't be a place I choose to dine at. read more

Greek family restaurants are always a safe place to get an affordable filling meal when in the Milwaukee area. One of the best is Maxim's on Capitol in Brookfield. I ordered the Greek skillet with a side of corned beef hash. For about $17, I had enough food for 2 scrumptious meals. The has was crisped just right, and the greek skillet had all the right stuff (potatoes, spinach, onions, mushrooms, feta, and large cubes of gyro meat). Tzatziki sauce on the side and 2 cooked to order eggs topped the perfect meal. Other orders at my table were only ok, and the restaurant was pretty loud, plus the server, while polite was going thru the motions (thereby losing 1 star). read more

After being greeted and seated with friendly efficiency, I had a delicious House Omelette with great hash browns and excellent coffee. Others in my group had the gyros and said the tzatziki sauce was fabulous! This place is a five star rate and the current rating is only a place holder as I was here for a group breakfast small business owners meeting. Although we had a reservation for 10, only 7 attendees could attend and Maxims accommodated our reservation and placed in the back of the restaurant as it was a touch quieter for the group to conduct business. Although no one ordered breakfast during the meeting, the staff was very attentive and should patience with the group as we only required coffee and water. However after the group broke I ordered to go - two eggs anyway with cheese which came with really well cooked hashbrowns and toast. The eggs where done nicely and not over hard and the cheese was expertly mixed in. I will be back in the near future to give them a personal visit and up the review to 5 stars.
