My husband and I decided to have a date night before the end of Magical Dining. We had a wonderful time at the restaurant! The location is perfect - just off the busy part of downtown. The ambiance inside was great - it felt very intimate. All the staff was kind, and we could tell they cared about their customers. We even had the chance to meet Maxine! We started our meal with the mushroom and brie soup, which was delicious. We also tried the caviar and chips, which were equally impressive. My husband ordered the NY Strip for his entree, and I couldn't help but feel a bit envious - it was such a great steak! I opted for the lamb ragu, which was outstanding. This was my second time having a dish with squid ink linguine, and it did not disappoint. Their wine selection was also very impressive. After several years of living in the general area and intrigued by all the positive buzz surrounding this wonderful establishment, we finally decided to come down for brunch with out-of-town friends. We were also encouraged by the fact that we could safely eat in an outside table. I love a good brunch with the right vibes! Maxine's was amazing from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Our host was so welcoming and sat us as soon as we arrived. While we waited on a friend, our server was nice enough to give us the drink run down and he wasn't kidding about Maxine's have the best sangria. This was my second time at Maxine's but first time for brunch. It was my friend's first time ever coming to Maxine's and we were both so happy with our orders! I love the décore of Maxine's and feels like it creates this one of a kind ambiance. They also have a super cute patio space but we opened for indoor seating because Florida heat was just too much that day. I couldn't decide between the chicken biscuit and gravy or the brisket but our waiter had said the brisket was a huge winner so of course, I opted for that one but got a side of just biscuits and gravy with cheese. Lucky for me, I had received the last bit of the brisket! My friend got the special of the day: crab cake Benedict. My brisket was just absolutely delicious, as were the sides it came with (potato wedges, veggies, biscuit, and scrambled eggs). I think because I got the last bit of brisket, it had been soaking up the juices so it was a bit too salty but it balanced out well with the eggs and potatoes (I also just love salt)! The biscuits and gravy was mouth watering and even taken home as left overs, still tasted amazing. The poached eggs on the Benedict had the perfect jiggle with amazing flavor as well! We both also got a watermelon mimosa which we weren't a huge fan of. It seemed to lack the watermelon flavor. Our server was also very attentive and gave great recommendations! 4 Stars for some great brunch food, that comes out quickly even when they are busy! The last we visited was back in 2019. When we first visited we sat inside and they had live music going on for brunch. We tried the fried chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy and the brisket. Both were very good, I almost say the brisket was my favorite, even though I don't normally go for it! Fast forward to our brunch visit today, we ended up sitting outside. They've added a large covered patio, along with a little spot for your fur friends (how cute). We waited a little long to order, but they checked on us often once we put our order in. Starting out with 2 biscuits and sausage gravy $8. From what I remember previously, it tasted better with the fried chicken. It was good but the gravy seemed a little different than before. My husband and I were feeling seafood, so we tried the seafood creole $22 with polenta. It was topped with fish, shrimp, sausage, scallops and mussels. I thought it tasted too much like tomatoes at first but I did get the Creole spice at the end, which was tasty. My husband got the duck and loved it! I don't eat duck, but tried the beans it was served on and they were incredible. I got the Chicken Maxine, which was very good but just a tad too salty (and this is coming from a major salt lover)! We went for my husband's birthday and the staff was extra considerate. Maxine came and checked on us multiple times, she is such a bright light. We are enjoyed caviar appetizers, the lobster roll is excellent, the caprese salad could benefit from a little balsamic. The entrees included a crispy duck, savory NY strip, and a modified Maxine's chicken Marsala (they took off the mushrooms and tomatoes per our request). What a lovely spot! Food was 5/5! Crab cake Benedict was perfect/ the crab cake was so fresh tasting, the sauce was delicious and the potatoes that came with the meal were great. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and said the sauce on that was "really really tasty"! The staff is 5/5 as well! It's only street parking so as I was trying to park my big ol' mom vehicle the owner saw me struggling and helped me out! He also personally went to most tables as they were ending the meal tk thank people for visiting and tell us more about the place and future plans. I would definitely go back to Maxine's, as it has the potential to be a great dining experience - rather than just okay - however, compared to many other brunch outings in downtown Orlando, it left a little to be desired. We had a 12:30pm brunch reservation and arrived about 30 minutes early; do not arrive early for brunch. They are very busy and you will only be seated at the time of your reservation. This didn't put too much of a damper on our experience, because we were seated right on time and just took a scroll around the neighborhood (we are able to buy a drink at the bar while we waiting, so that was a plus!). When we were seated, we would have loved to sit outside - as the weather was nice and there was live music- yet, you're only seated where the hostess chooses; this still wasn't too major for us, but it would have been nice to be near the live music. Our waiter was very kind! He was super busy and running around everywhere, but he did his best. Just a heads up for my fellow avid brunchers, there's no bottomless mimosa! I love a good endless supply of Sunday Glory, but this was a surprise outing for me and my partner's choice. The drink prices weren't too bad, the pint was $11 (medium-sized mason jar); and after about 2-3 drinks each, we were good. Yet, that bill can add up quickly for some people. Finally, the food! I'm a southern girl at heart; born and raised. Therefore, I appreciated the heavy, southern style meals. My partner, not so much. I ordered the chicken biscuit bowl. The flavors were delicious! Very well seasoned. I did order an addition of eggs to calm down some of the richness, but enjoyed my meal. He had the steak breakfast (avid steak lover), and thought it was just okay. Just an FYI, eat half or do not plan to do many activities after. The drinks and the hefty dishes will have you ready to put your feet up and relax. Overall, it was a nice outing. This place is definitely an institution in Orlando. I have heard many great things and finally got an opportunity to visit for Brunch. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but since I was aware this was in a residential neighborhood I expected it would involve a decent walk from car to the door. I was seated outside in a cute patio area and the staff offered the specials. I decided to play safe and go for the biscuits and gravy. I have to say I was a bit surprised to see it showed up with visible red and green peppers. This was the first time I had seen anything like that with biscuits and gravy. They definitely gave it a bit of a different flavor. Unfortunately for me it was not to my liking. The staff was friendly enough but you could tell they were busy and overwhelmed a bit. Drink refills were scarce and an extra order of potatoes took much longer than we would have liked. Additionally, a trip to the restroom caused a plate to be cleared before they were finished with eating everything. I have been to Maxine's before for brunch and loved it . This time I came out for their dinner show that was advertised as a murder mystery. I don't know what I was expecting. Perhaps maybe it be an actual mystery like clue. But it was perhaps maybe a 30 minute show broken up into smaller parts. we arrived 15 minutes before the show started, but it seemed like they were serving the food prior so our table would always get the food last when they were rotating things out. Which was very awkward because most people were done eating before the next section of the performance. The show was cute and the actors were fun, but was it an amazing show that left me wanting more or had a mystery feeling.. no. I felt like I was expecting more for $75 plus tip . The food: I got the fried green tomato and crab cake as an appetizer and it was very yummy. As my entree was the "rack of lamb" mine had no gravy in it .. my friend's was swimming in it . The asparagus was actually the best part. It was grilled perfection and seasoned well. The lamb was hard to cut because it was stringy and I was cutting with what looked like a butter knife. The mashed potatoes were fine, but it was just one scoop. It felt like a very little amount compared to the other dishes that were at the meal. And for dessert I had a key lime pie. I will say overall the food was very simple and basic . I was very surprised because Maxine's is never basic . We ended up leaving and not sticking around after for another drink, after spending $230 dollars in total (%22 tip that was automatically added to 3 course meal - appetizer entrée and dessert for $75 and plus our alcoholic drink) . Though we were happy to come out and support a local restaurant that we normally enjoy and local entertainment afterwards still a little hungry . This place is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in DT Orlando. The atmosphere in and out are terrific and the staff is attentive, polite, and committed to being present without being over bearing. That's the great part. The not so great part unfortunately was the food. I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time and magical dining was the perfect excuse. Ordered a glass of Sangria. it was pictured with fruit and expected to be refreshing but the wine was a bit dry and no fruit as pictured. We requested wine pairing but never noticed that it did not come but that's okay. Starter was the Green Turtle Cay Conch Chowder and the Lobster Roll Half - House Roll. The soup was okay but was a bit over seasoned but it be just be that way. The lobster roll was delicious, cool, light and tasty. The main course was 10oz NY Strip Steak and the Chef's selection Wahoo with seafood stuffed manicotti over red tomato sauces. The steak tasted like meat. There was no seasoning to speak of and the temp was right and the meat was tender it just lacked flavor and I probably could have had some steak sauce (but a good steak wouldn't need that). The mashed and asparagus were also okay but this was nothing special, a let down. The Wahoo Chefs special was over cooked and the green was extremely salty. The center of the fish was more flaky and delicate but too chewy. The manicotti was not hot, likely plated before the rest of the meal was ready. Desert. Kahlua Chocolate Mousse and Key Lime Pie. The pie was good though the crust had too much moisture so it had trouble retaining its structure. The mousse was okay, nothing really special with bits of chocolate mixed in that threw it off since a great mousse is a silky smooth texture enveloping the palate. Wife did not finish it. Towards the end of the meal the waiter notice the sangria not really touched and replaced the drink. Final thoughts: 2/5 for food; service 4/5 (a little slow but could have been busier than appeared); and atmosphere 5/5. We really wanted to love this place but left felling under whelmed and disappointed. Also, this is not a chain and though we could have asked to redo items or changed we didn't because honestly, we just wanted a relaxed and uneventful time. We may give it a chance in the future but likely not for a good while. This experience was really surprising given the high reviews. Maybe it was an off night. read more

When you are looking for this restaurant you might think that your GPS is playing a joke on you because it is nestled in the middle of a residential area in a converted home. The dishes are creative and delicious, some of the best omelettes you can have and the eggs Benedict are amazing, it's a great place for a family brunch, the interior is decorated with many interesting artifacts that keep you entertained analyzing them and engages your table in conversation rather than glued to their phones. I have heard a lot of nice things about this restaurant, we came here for our office Christmas luncheon, which was more like brunch. The drinks were pretty good, I had both the sangria and a pineapple mimosa. For our brunch, we had several choices of salad, cheese fries and a crabcake and fried green tomato combo. Our main dishes were omelet with shrimp, brie and bacon, chicken and waffles, burger and fries. Our choice of desserts were bread pudding and crème brulee. I did not enjoy the meal. My appetizer of goat cheese salad was edible, omelet of shrimp and brie, minus the bacon was pretty bland this combo does not work, the brie was the only thing I tasted, but paired with eggs, it was not good. My dessert of bread pudding was dry. It could have used some kind of sauce. Everyone that had the crème brulle enjoyed it. I like the outdoor seating, though our party was inside and it was pretty tight with the number of people there. I would give this restaurant a second try. read more

Me and my family came to Maxines for my brother's birthday and it was incredible! The place has a very cheerful yet cozy atmosphere with very friendly servers. The owner and his wife would go around having conversations with everyone and they even took a picture with us for our brother's birthday! Personally I ordered the burger and it was incredibly tasty! It was like a breakfast burger with bacon and eggs but it also had the addition of a perfectly cooked patty and a sweet bacon jam. 10/10 experience with great service! read more

I really want to love this place and we've given it several tries and just have not had a single solid experience. I strongly suggest you make a reservation or call ahead as they are regularly super busy and get full easily. The staff is very friendly and that really brings a good vibe to the space. The biggest downers are the wait time for food and the overall quality of the food itself. The first time we went in we waited 35 min for our food, second time was better - 20 min, but this last time was well over 45 minutes and we had the toddler with us, so it was very challenging to manage. I had the quiche which was just okay, but a bit on the dry side and was luke warm when served while my husband's meal was super hot - so I'm guessing mine sat while his was made. They did offer us some biscuits as a free add-on during our last visit, but we declined as the biscuits and gravy was literally what my husband had ordered for a meal, so it seemed silly to have biscuits before biscuits? They do have a wonderful vibe, nice staff, and they are in a fun area. So that's helpful. Overall: B- Just miss after miss for us personally. I want to love them, I really do. read more
