OMGOSH ~WOWOW Let's start there! It was girls day out and a friend of ours chose this place. Man am I glad she did. And I'm really glad she had a reservation as well. Strongly suggested. !!!! This place was hopping, very popular, parking is limited and you may have to drive around the block a few times but so worth it. Inside, they Even had a guy playing guitar and singing. You'll see in my pictures below. They had a brunch menu today ~ Sunday and I had the bourbon maple glaze ham steak with eggs potatoes and biscuits which they are famous for and I might add I can hardly wait to go back and have it again. Maxine's is such a charming little eatery. You almost feel transported to another time when you walk in. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You really get a neighborhood feel when at Maxine's. The only downside would be the interior is not well air conditioned and in the hot months in Florida, well, that can be a little unpleasant. This was a perfect spot just before our show at the Dr. Phillips Center. We went while they were having their 3 for $30 deal (app, entrée, dessert) and for an extra $18 you could upgrade to the wine pairing with each course. The portions were just right so you were not left feel hungry after the three courses nor were you stuffed. I had the brisket croquettes, the almond crusted tuna, and the tiramisu. My companion had the caprese starter, the steak medallions, and the mango pineapple dessert with the wine pairing. The wine pairing with the courses was lovely, the dessert wine was not a favorite, but I think that was more just because neither of us were a fane of that particular wine. The brisket croquettes were just delightful and the sauce that accompanied them was simply heavenly. Both entrees were delicious, and I would order with one again. I adore this little place downtown Orlando. My aunt and I have came many times for either happy hour on sundays, or just a lunch date on the weekday. Every time I have visited, my visit has been delightful. The owner, is always so friendly and talkative with my aunt and I. He really takes pride in his restaurant and his wife, Maxine. he trains his staff to be polite and assertive. the waiters/waitresses are kind and check up on us often. You can sit inside or outside, either is great, just depends on what you are looking for that day. When my aunts and I visited a few months ago, we sat at the bar inside and the bartenders were fun and polite! They have happy hour mimosas and bloody marys on sundays, and boy are they large and delicious! Lots of different flavor choices for the mimosas. The chicken and waffles is delightful! Recently in the pics I showed was my visit from lunch. We got the strawberry arugula salad, I added chicken, and then we shared the meat and cheese board. It was fantastic! So much flavor and deliciousness. The bathroom is set up so cute, plenty of space and always clean. the restaurant as a whole is always clean and presentable.I love the decorations inside. I would say the setting is more on the intimate side, but you can of course go there with anyone you choose. I can't wait to go back and try dinner sometime. Right now they are running a summer special, which you can view in my recent photo. You pay about 32$ for 3 course meal and drinks! Came to Maxine's on a Friday for Brunch. There was a small line, but our party of 5 were quickly escorted to our seat. There is a small seating area inside and a nice area to dine outside on the side or in the front restaurant. It is a quaint spot in the heart of the city in a nice neighborhood that is often talked about gem on shine street. The staff are absolutely amazing from the hostess, and Bob who brought us our waters, and I believe our waiter was Demarco who was very pleasant. I had the lobster omelet, and my colleagues had the vegetarian quiche, and the brisket. Get ready for a bit of a wait as we waited quite awhile for our meals. Overall the food was just okay nothing really special or unique about the flavors, but the ambiance and the people make it a perfect spot for a quick bite with friends or a date. There is several instagramable photo ops and we appreciated that outdoors they have plenty of fans and outdoor air conditioners to combat the Florida heat. For dessert we enjoyed the Brownie and the key lime pie. Which were both very delicious. The dessert was far better than the meals themselves. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance better than the food. I probably would not be in a rush to return but I'm glad that I had the experience. They have na extensive drink menu so that much be worth checking out. read more

Haven't been here in a while probably about a year. That was the first time I've been to Maxine's and it was a decent experience. The bartender was very nice and I sat at the bar. They were very accommodating for Sunday brunch. Today was very different and it was very disappointing. We seated at our table and I asked the waitress about mimosas because it was Sunday brunch. She told me they don't sell bottles of champagne and that they come in large mason jars, which was a quart. They said it was close to equivalent of a bottle of champagne. I ordered one for the two of us. It came out in one jug with one straw I asked for glasses and she proceeded to tell me that I was not allowed to split the drink. Now this is one large mason jar that is a full quart of champagne with orange juice for $24 and I'm not allowed to let someone else at the table drink from it. She told me that if the person I was eating with wanted a mimosa, they would have to order one as well. I asked her to go talk to the manager to see if we can just get two glasses that I could then pour this quart of mimosa into. The manager came over and said it was the house rules. They don't allow anyone to split the drinks and said that I could've bought a bottle of champagne. I proceeded to tell him that the waitress told me I couldn't and she never said that I couldn't split the drink. It was a very bad experience. The manager was not accommodating. He said those are his rules for the restaurant so we finished our appetizer drink some of the mimosa and then I got the check and left. I was not going to order my meal there and waste any more money on a place that is not accommodating. It is a trendy food spot that needs to do a lot better with their Sunday brunch menu first of all, which is limited and figure out a better policy for mimosas. Stop trying to make money on forcing people to order things they don't want. If I wanna let someone drink from my glass, I should be able to. They lost a customer today I won't be back. read more

One word- cioppino! Maxines has THE BEST cioppino I have ever been served! A little heat, lots of seafood ( whole shrimp and scallops with chunks of white fish and little morsels of clams) set in a flavorful and fresh tasting tomato broth. Add to all of that, little gems of carrots and celery. DIVINE!! If cioppino isn't your thing, there are lots of other things on the menu- and lots of funky things to see. The service is top notch, too, We heartily enjoyed our meal, highly recommend it, and will make a return visit- soon! read more

Was here years ago for a friends birthday and felt like it was completely overrated. Decided to give it another try, especially after it made the Michelin list. Came for Magical Dining and walked out feeling the same as before. The Caviar and Chips has for some reason been switched to cold, old (most likely bagged) potato wedges instead of homemade chips. The New York Steak was tough and mediocre, the chimichurri was herbaceous but not really an impressive addition. The Trout Gravlax was cured with more sugar than salt and interesting but, but not really tasty and the sauce didn't add anything. The tiramisu was clearly from a box and still half frozen to the point that the middle was hard and the rest had ice crystals in it. Definitely will not be back. read more

The service and atmosphere 5/5. The owner came out and talked to us. The staff were super attentive. Our waiter made sure that wanted for nothing. They were even nice enough to make a Bloody Mary outside of their brunch hours. Unfortunately I was just not impressed with food. I'd say a 3/5. Appetizers: The mushroom bruschetta was my favorite dish of the night but it does have a strong wine flavor which I enjoyed, but may not be for everyone. The other appetizer of the night, the fried green tomatoes, needs some work. I'd have preferred them be cut thinner and not served with a sweet Jam. Entrees: Our Pork chop was delicious and the winner of the entree battle. I probably wouldn't get the stuffed trout again though the only flavor that came through was salt and way too much of it. We had dinner their last night - a fabulous place! I had fried green tomatoes for the first time ever and they were delicious, especially with the chutney (firecracker source). My friend had lamb lollipops and she polished her plate clean. I also had Maxine's Mushroom & Brie Soup which was outrageous! - mushroomy and creamy. The only issue was the bread/crostini that came with the soup was seriously too hard and impossible to bite off without potentially risking a cracked tooth and it was equally impossible to break into pieces by hand. been a must try for me and they did not disappoint! few tips: definitely make a reservation, there's a 90 minute limit per table but can be changed if worked out prior, and you can save a little bit by paying cash! a must must try: the crab cakes!!! this place probably has the best crab cakes i've had in a while! we got there around opening time and i love how sweet the host and our servers were. shout out to lilly and steven! since it was our first time the host showed us around since we weren't sure if we wanted to sit inside or outside. outside has plenty of fans and has a roof above so the hot florida weather should not affect your choice. love the vibes. you can purchase the mimosa glasses they have as well! they're super funky and basically a chalice. would recommend this place to everyone! thank you for a wonderful time!! read more

Friends and I stopped by for a late brunch while traveling and were pleasantly surprised by this small restaurant with a big personality. The walls are decorated with artwork, mostly pictures in black and white, by the owner. Reservations are incredibly easy to make; in fact, we made them via Yelp and showed up about 45 minutes later. The food was truly "southern," arriving hot and in large quantities. It was seasoned well with no shortage of pepper. If I returned I would definitely grab a plate or two and split choices amongst the table more tapas-style. The hostess was authentically kind and welcoming and knew an incredible amount about the neighborhood but, seemed stretched thin at times. Parking was an additional woe. There is no attached lot or valet option. Street parking was the only option available within a fairly busy neighborhood meaning you likely needed to park several blocks away. read more

My boyfriend and I do brunch pretty much every weekend. When we came to Orlando we researched the best brunch and ended up at Maxine's. I can say this is hands down the best brunch I've ever had. We started with the Key West Crab Cakes which were cooked perfectly and so tasty. I got the chicken and biscuit bowl and my boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. This place is a scam. Let me tell you, I worked for a couple of days at this place (call me undercover, like Gloria Steinem and Playboy), and it's a joke. If anyone raves about the food, they should go to Publix. That's exactly where everything comes from; I saw it firsthand. They have good decorators that can do wonders with frost on cakes and pies, so that's what is supposed to make the customers impressed. Their chefs will literally drop food and pick it up off of the floor and proceed to cook it. The waitresses are good, but they're there just to make some money, and at the end of the night, the owner has a toast. The namesake, by the way, Maxine, drops in about an hour before closing to ensure that she's well-liked and to secure great ratings on Yelp. It's honestly the most despicable showcases that I've ever seen in my entire food service career. They buy all of their food from Publix, make it seem like the food is "authentic," have a pseudo-owner (her husband) sit on his ass all night to find faults with workers, and are not even open for more than perhaps 30 hours a week. Their website claims: "We Seek To Elevate The Experience of Engaging Others In A Highly Entertaining & Enlivening Epicurean Environment!" Yeah, that is, an experience of heating up food that anyone could get from Publix. Publix is the source of every single food dish that they serve; I've seen it firsthand. Despite what they might lie to you about, nothing--absolutely nothing--is made from scratch. You might as go and buy shrimp from the grocery store; it's actually a lot better and it won't be dropped on the floor. Right now, Let's just take a glance, right now, at their menu. "Key West Crab Cakes." But they will overcharge you for everything, treat their employees like shit (ask them how many employees have worked there for more than 7 months, and then ask those 7-month+employees if they are looking to leave), and continue to have the worst location possible. There is literally no parking, so you have to find a place on the street and walk for God knows how long. Ask the whipped husband why he is still with the Maxine namesake idiot. He won't admit it, but it's because of money. Somehow, this hidden piece of shit located in the depths of nowhere continues to make it. Please, stop it. read more

Last weekend a friend and I tried out brunch and it was a great experience! They were pretty busy, so we sat at the bar. The set up still made it feel like we had our own space and were able to talk. The outdoor seating area looked really nice, but ot was over 90 degrees lol. The drinks were very generous! The food was delicious! The beef was all prime which isn't something you see everywhere. There was a ton of flavor in both of our meals! I am somewhat of a benedict connoisseur and this was a good one complete with delicious hollandaise. The burger was juicy, the SUPER thick bacon was crisp without being tough, and the sauce for the salad and burger was great as well. The icing on the cake of our experience? Meeting Maxine herself (such a beautiful, lively, and nice woman!), being served by Mr. Maxine (so funny and personable!), and feeding their dog, Lucinda (with permission of course, adorable!). If I had to come up with any constructive feedback - it was a tad warm inside (most likely due to all the doors being open), and one of my poached eggs were overcooked (yolk was soft, not runny - but the other egg was cooked to perfection!). Worst dining experience ever!!! The 6 of us were seated in the small room which was great; however, it went from great to horrible very quickly. We waited over an hour for food to arrive (never saw server once during this time) and when it did arrive it was awful - all six of us complained about the quality of the food (can you image a hard and very crispy omelette?). None of us are picky eaters. Maxine and the chef did try to make things right but you can't make our dining experience a good experience when the food and the service were dismal. This is the first time my wife and I ever came to this place. I saw this through the Google website and it looked very interesting. We made reservations and got seated by Mr Maxine. He was very courteous and sat us right away. We met Maxine at the end of the night and she was very kind and took a picture with us. The food is delicious and if you've never been here before, I highly recommend it! The wine glasses have her name on them and their moto is sexy, comfortable, and delicious. Such a cute place!! Seriously, I loved it! The service was amazing. They poured our mimosas for us and greeted and sat us immediately. The seasonal mimosa was peach and how yummy it was! I had the fried green tomatoes to Ed with a crab cake along with the mixed veggies and potatoes. I forgot what sauce I had but it was spicy and had fish in it. Also so good!! Maxine's on Shine was a lovely place to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. After brunch my friends and I stopped by for a few more adult beverages. This spot had so much character! It's nestled in a cute neighborhood. There were many wine selections and three different sizes of mason jars. You could select a small, medium or large mason jar. It all depends on your level of thirst! One of my friends ordered a salad and bruschetta. She shared the bruschetta and it was lovely! As was my mimosa, $7, in the grande mason jar. There was live music which not only offered entertainment but also enforced the relaxing atmosphere of this place. I felt right at home! The bar tenders were friendly and attentive. When I asked for my check it was brought to me in a book. I thought that was a pretty cool touch! read more

The food was super refreshing, warm, and had a depth of flavor compared to other restaurants I've been to that had a certain nostalgia to it. The atmosphere was very relaxing and fun. I liked the overall ambiance of the place. The lobster roll was very fresh, the lobster ravioli was cooked to perfection, and the mousse was delicious. I would say if your not a fan of sundried tomato's I would ask them to remove. The Berries Romano's dessert was good as well.
