I've dined here twice and you really have to get the right dishes when you go. The Miki Bihon noodle dish was my favorite!!! It's a mix of 2 different types of noodles, pork, shrimp and chicken. The waiter hsaid the Pancit canton is the popular but I found this one to be way better. The Laing dish was really good with taro leaves sautéed in spicy coconut milk. And the lumpiag Shanghai pork egg rolls were amazing! A lot of the dishes have pork and I'm not a fan of that. But these were my favorites! Parking lot is pretty big, lots of spaces. The wait time on the weekends can get pretty long; valet parking. The must order is their fried chicken with a side of banana ketchup and rice. Also had the Sinigang and pork sisig. Their food tastes lighter/less greasy compared to other Filipino "fast food" spots. A bit pricey relative to their portions, but it was fine. Def wanna try to Kare kare and crispy pata next time. I apologize for the long post. I been going back and forth with myself on whether or not I should post this, I truly dont like to give bad reviews , however in the end I feel that it will help. We ate at Maxs Restaurant in Glendale saturday night, Its not busy but it takes time before we're seated.Our server is old lady and they called Tita i forgot the name, anyway, the server seemed overwhelmed and it took a while for orders to be taken. The service was quite slow, it felt like an unnecessary amount of time was spent waiting for each course and drinks to arrive. We felt like the table was ignored for most of the evening, she seemed distracted and did not check. It was difficult to get her attention for refills or to order other dish and the worst part while taking the order our lady server coughed multiple times near the table and the food which made the experienced uncomfortable and raised hygiene concerns. The server spokes in a very loud voice making "UTOS" to her busy buss boy to get there and to bring this. It is hoped that this feedback helps in improving the service for everyday guess. read more

Some days they have valet parking, if you're lucky they're not there. There's usually a wait time but my boyfriend and i came right on time before the lunch rush. We got my favorite juice ever, mango 5/5. Got the garlic fried rice 5/5 a must have! Pancit canton 5/5. And i introduced him to the lumpiang shanghai 5/5! I gotta say the Philippines has the best mangoes. I wish their mango juice came in a larger size. I can drink so many of these but they're not refillable here. The garlic fried rice is jasmine based stirred with garlic bits. The pancit canton is my favorite noodles here-- the sautéed veggies, meat, and a pinch of lemon wow my mouth is watering right now. The shanghai is my childhood favorite. Shanghai is Filipino egg roll that contains ground pork and veggies. I recommend getting the best seller which is the Max's fried chicken. I typically order this when i have a bigger group because the portions here are meant to be shared. All our items came out to about $60. read more

Went to a birthday dinner for a Filipina friend, and she picked Max's Restaurant. The standalone restaurant is not that big and only has a small valet lot. The interior was very clean and beautifully adorned though. No reservations accepted, so we put a name down for our party of 14 and it was about a 30 minute wait. Service was extremely friendly, and we had a waitress who has been with the restaurant over 30 years. We ordered a ton of food to share family style, and had some leftovers. We tried their famous fried chicken, as well as sisig, sinigang, crispy pata, pancit, lumpia, chicken adobo, and both white and garlic rice. We finished with halo halo for dessert. While the food is pricier, the portions were large and quality was excellent. The menu has a good variety of dishes. This chain exists in the Philippines as well, and I can see why it is so popular! Max's restaurant is always a go to for my family when we're craving some Filipino food that's not made at home. My family's go-to is the crispy pata, sinigang na bangus, & the bangus sisig. Came here recently for my sister's graduation, and the service was quick, and our server was so kind. This location is pretty big, compared to the one that used to be in West Covina, and I did like that they had valet parking for $5 (Parking in that area always seems a bit hectic lol) And even during lunch time on a Sunday, we only waited ~35 minutes & it was def worth the wait. read more

Culturally, a very warm and accommodating attitude. That is what you will get in this restaurant. I grew up going to this original restaurant in Manila. They did not disappoint, service wise. The Kare-Kare in its original recipe calls for oxtail meat and they used a different cut, although, it may have been a decision for cost cutting as prices of ingredients are ridiculously high now. The sauce, in its original form calls for mashed roasted peanuts, and some use the bottled peanut butter, which is an acceptable way of making it too. But I got some clumped of it. Not all that bad, but quality suffered a bit, hence three stars. But, they still serve comfort food and that in itself never grows old. read more

Read the separate line item receipt, it shows added gratuity already. The server won't even mention this! The authentic Filipino food is really what makes me drive 30 miles away. The ambience is a very inviting and feels homey. The service is mostly satisfactory depending on how busy the restaurant is at that time couple visits prior to this on Easter time they have been very hospitable, professional and friendly. The last visit was a little busy like I said due to Easter everything needed had to be asked, and I had a little bit of of the waiting period at some point I had to get up myself and ask receptionist as my family and I had to go food wise. DRINKS Wine - They don't serve wine anymore :( . But I guess, with an all-Filipino customer base, I was the only one who ordered wine. Most Filipinos don't drink wine, much less the women. Only men drink alcohol -- usually beer. Beer - They serve the Philippines' San Miguel Beer. They also serve Heineken. Buko (coconut) Juice - I believe someone in our group ordered this. But there was no comment. Calamansi Juice - Someone in our group ord9ered this as well. But still no ooohs and aaahs. (Calamansi is a small citrus fruit from, I'm sure Calamansi trees grown in the Philippines.) FOOD Appetizers (5 Stars) - For the first time, we ordered Chicharon Bulaklak *. We also ordered Fried Lumpia (fried egg rolls). I usually order Calamari but this time we ordered Filipino appetizers. The reason was that my sister, who wants to be an influencer, was filming this visit. The Fried Lumpia was delicious. And the Chicharon Bulaklak? Exceptionally delicious! (Note: In the Philippines, there are no appetizers. And I think the Fried Lumpia and Chicharon Bulaklak become one of the main courses.) Crispy Pata - delicious too (Crispy Pata is deep fried pig trotters or knuckles served with a soy-vinegar dip) Pinakbet - Pinakbet is made from mixed vegetables sautéed in fish or shrimp sauce. I love the way Max's cook their Pinakbet. The vegetables are al dente and are not overcooked unlike the authentic Pinakbet. Dessert - 5 Stars As we were already full, we hesitated from ordering dessert. But since my sister was filming this, we decided to order Halo-Halo. And oohs-and-aahs here! So delicious! LADIES ROOM As I mentioned in my prior review, their restrooms, or at least their ladies room, has that hand blower. Do not use that. Because studies show that the air that is blown from that hand blower comes from the air in the restroom which is -- yech! But good thing they have paper towels. Went there for my birthday, and was treated differently from everyone else because I guess I'm not Filipina and it was for MY birthday celebration with my boyfriend's family (Filipinos). Awful service/ experience with our server an older Filipino man. Checked on everyone else except for me. Then, cherry on top, there was a literal bug in our food. Of course, he apologized to everyone else except for me. So not only was the customer service terrible, the food service followed that trend. My friends came around Friday 7:00pm. The place was 70% full. This was my first time trying Filipino food that's not fast food. I let my Filipino foodie friends order because they know what's good. THE GOOD: We had garlic rice, crispy pata, lechon kawali, egg rolls, beef soup, miki bihon, fried chicken and halo halo. Everything was pretty good. The kitchen came out with the food really quick too. My favorite is the lechon kawali with the liver sauce. They were also nice enough to let us order halo halo after closing. If you're a health nut or scared of grease, skip this place. But if you want to try authentic Filipino food, I think this place has a good variety to try. My former filipino co-worker (who's a regular here) and I caught up over lunch here and between the two of us we shared a whole fried chicken, steamed rice, pancit, lechon kawaii, lumpia, and halo halo. The fried chicken was super crispy, moist and paired well with rice and banana ketchup. The pancit was full of vegetables, chicken and shrimp. This version of pancit is probably my favorite of the variety of versions I've ever tried. The lechon was soft and tender inside and crispy on the outside, but I would have preferred a less fatty cut albeit it is pork belly. I'm not a huge fan of their lumpia, being as I am Vietnamese, so I always think Vietnamese egg rolls are better. =) And to round out their meal while already stuffed to the max, the halo halo was delicious. A generous portion filled with ube ice cream, shaved ice, various canned fruits, and rice flakes that added a nice crunch. We ended up taking it togo and it melted into a yummy milkshake. My family and I have been coming here for almost 2 decades, since we immigrated from the Philippines. Max will always hold a special place in my heart because I've celebrated every single birthday here since I was a young teen (even after attending college hundreds of miles away and moving there after, I came home to celebrate here with my fam). Same with my younger brother. I am now 27 and he is almost 20. This is our one and only top pick. A lot has obviously changed, they even charge to bring a dessert now (which honestly to me, is a bit exploitative, but I understand that at the end of the day they are a business and they need to make money). I'm just glad that now, I have the money to take my parents out here to eat. The Kare-Kare, and fried chicken are our go-to. Pancit Bihon is a must on birthday celebrations (I don't eat usually crave this but my dad says it's a symbol for long life, so I don't argue with him). Kare Kare is my favorite, my mom even knows she can't make it like this and we don't even cook it anymore haha.. fried chicken is honestly ok, but it tastes good with everything else. Sisig is alright but it's a toss up on whether you get a good plate or not, sometimes is just straight up fatty. Throughout the years, this place has honestly gone downhill. First, we went ahead and put our name down through the waitlist with my name and phone number and it said 45 min wait so I said okay let's go check out the Mall across the street. Then 45 mins later passed and still no call. So I called the restaurant and they said "We've been calling you". We haven't been to Max's for almost 7 years and all I remember is how good their fried chicken is. I still think they have the best fried chicken, crispy outside and moist inside! We enjoyed the pansit and the egg roll. The dessert leche flan and buco pandan were very satisfying. I will give 5 on food and ambience cause we really enjoyed it. I only saw 1 server on the area we were seated and he was very fast and efficient. The area has a lot of table with big groups, which is pretty common with Filipino families, so in short, we had to wait longer to get served and had to wave at him to get drinks and desserts.
