Took forever for a server to see us and take our drink/appetizer order, probably 10 minutes. Then, it took another 15 minutes to get the appetizer out. They never came back to take food order and we had to tell the only other server and she took our order. Food came out 20 minutes later. Definitely a place for locals only, most in there including the staff appeared to be nursing hangovers due to speed at which things moved. Lots of chit chat but no moving. Good drinks, great Texas beer selection. Too bad the food truck is horrendous; with crappy food, small portions, no sides (e.g., sour cream, salsa, cilantro, etc). On top of that, the prices are outrageous. Just up the road, the Shade Tree offers $1.50 beers. Here they're $5. Come on. This place is GORGEOUS! At the edge of NW San Antonio on 281 as you enter the hill country. It's only about a year old. The patio has a beautiful hill country view. They serve burgers, wings, wraps & other similar food. Full bar. Flat screen TV's all around. Shuffleboard & a couple of pool tables too. A great place to come watch the game & maybe shoot a game of pool with friends & family. Been wanting to stop here for a while. The house margarita was good, and so was the chicken wrap. No desserts though. It would be nice if they had a couple of dessert choices. Overall a fantastic experience!! read more

Max's is the best place around to stop in for a beer and burgers! They have a fun selection of local craft beers and liquors. The menu may be small but everything is super yummy and flavorful. Burgers, wraps, pulled pork tacos... my mouth is watering now! They also have shuffleboard and pool tables for a little extra fun as well as live music on weekends. Happy to find this place for football. There is a large U shaped bar with plenty of seating. Good variety of drink choices. Pints and Pitchers, IPA and Ales. Typical food, burgers, tacos, pizza. Limited menu but fresh and good. Seating inside is high top tables. 11 TVs with DirectTV for any NFL game. They also have an outside area with regular tables. (No TVs). Adam rocks the bar when it is crowded and the servers are friendly. They know us when we come in (by our team jerseys) and turn one of the TVs to our game. This is great considering we are AFC fans. The only time the service has been slow is when every table its full and there is a larger group in the party/ stage area. Even then, the staff is still attentive and doing their best with smiles. That makes the difference to me as a customer. I understand when a restaurant gets busy vs writing a bad review because of impatience. It's Texas, relax and live life a little slower. read more

Being from Washington State, we'd hoped to see the Seahawk-Oakland game, but they don't have the NFL package. We were disappointed, but Morghan was so sweet and such a great server, we stayed anyway. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some good recommendations. The chicken wings were delicious and they make a darn fine Bloody Mary. We'll definitely stop in again next time we come to Bulverde to visit family. read more

Very upset. Came for a drink, group was less than ten and ordered food with drinks. No one was standing. A staff member ran up screaming at us that the sheriff had arrived and began throwing disposable masks at us to put on. We explained if we were sitting down eating we didn't need masks but would wear them if we needed to get up from the table for any reason. We were screamed at some more. This staff member reeked of alcohol and later that night got into fight. We all had tabs at the bar and she refused to give us our cards back at the end of the night from the register because she was too busy fighting someone?? Wait times were terribly slow, guess you can only get buzzed there if you're part of the staff.... Idiots didn't seem to understand COVID laws either. Only had two drinks bc the fight outside became violent and involved all of the drunken staff. Unbelievable. read more

This is our first time to try Max's Roadhouse. The food was really good. The service not so much. We asked for extra mayonnaise for the patty melts we ordered because there was just a smear on them. That didn't come until we were just about done eating them. We asked a couple of times for more water - glasses empty. We finally got more water when I went and snatched a water jug to refill our own glasses. We asked for the check explaining we needed to get going. She did bring the check but it took her about 10 minutes to come back and pick it up to complete the transaction. There was a huge party ahead of us which was the reason we waited an hour for our food. I think that's too long to wait for a cheeseburger. That was my only complaint about the place. Yes, this is more of a sports bar than a restaurant. But we don't have kids so it didn't really matter to us. We didn't stay for the band but it seemed this would be a good place to listen to music. Been here a few times, always enjoyed the food, drinks, and bringing my dog to the outside seating. Today I brought my active duty ARMY cousin by while he was in San Antonio for training by and we were told dogs are not welcome at Max's, I asked how long the policy had been in effect and the manager said as long as she has worked there. I asked if she had worked there more than 2 weeks and she said yes, we just started coming 2 weeks ago. I let the manager know there training program needed a look at and thanked them for letting us stay until we were ready to leave. Sad to see a place that has outside seating not allowing dogs, thankfully there are plenty of places that do! Best of luck, but we will support dog friendly places. I wonder if all of the cats roaming around the restaurant are vaccinated, didn't see any collars. I know it wasn't because my dog is black. read more

Nice place and very clean! Pretty much a sports type bar with pool tables, shuffle board and several tv's showing sports of all types. Limited menu of hamburgers, tacos and wings but my wife and I tried the cheese burger, wings and fries and all were very good (nice touch with spicy ketchup). Bar tenders did a great job of keeping the bar area clean and were wiping it down often and the waitress we had was very attentive and pleasant. This place is great!! We just left and had an enjoyable evening there. First, very attentive staff even with a full house. Bravo! We ate cheeseburgers, pulled pork tacos, fish tacos, and jalapeño poppers. The poppers had crispy bacon and the jalapeños were still crispy fresh. I had the cheeseburger and really liked it. Nothing fancy, just a good burger! My boyfriend had the pulled pork and REALLY enjoyed it! Sister and her guy liked their fish tacos too. Sister's margarita was how I like them when I took a sip. Her guy had whiskey sours. Not quite how he liked them, but said he appreciated the price! My guy had a couple of beers and loved seeing the Texas collection of beers and liquors! Thank you for keeping it local! None of us are from the Spring Branch area so we weren't known locals. It was just a great halfway spot between our houses to meet up for dinner. Everything is good here! Some of the best fish tacos I've had, their pineapple Pico on the tacos gives it that extra burst of flavor. Their pulled pork tacos are spicy but oh so flavorful too.
