Size up if you're hungry or sharing with someone else. Their Chinese Chicken Salad is reminiscent of a favorite LA spot, with shredded chicken, fried wonton strips, pasta, slivered almonds, onions over a bed of chopped romaine and lightly dressed in a sesame dressing. I'd skip the Garlic Noodles though. Service is incredibly friendly and attentive. You order at the counter and they bring out the dishes, along with anything else you need. I would come back here. I enjoyed it. The chicken was moist and juicy and warm, and the rice was a flavorful heap. I got the large portion with dark meat. The sauces are more on the salty side, the servings of each were more for dabbing than for full on dipping like other places are ie. Savoy. I wished the portions of the pickled cucumber were larger to balance out the larger portion of chicken and rice. Didn't get too much of a feel for the staff. The guy cutting up our chicken and serving us (I assume he was the owner) seemed pleasant but you could tell his mission was to work and fulfill orders. Two things they can improve on. First, I agree with another review, the complimentary soup was flavorless. It just seemed like the bland water they used to boil the chicken. It's not really a soup. It tastes similar to the water you get after you boil dumplings. And two, I wish they had indoor seating. It was cold and windy outside. Decided to try this new hainan chicken place. Ordered the large hainan chicken from the kiosk. I went next door to Wok. Around 15 minutes later I came back for my order and it wasn't ready. A few more minutes passed and I got my food. Came home and tried it- the chicken was good. Onion ginger sauce was not enough for my large chicken order. The rice was way too salty. I liked how you could self-order on one of their two kiosks for a casual and fast experience. You could also opt for white or brown meat. The chicken came with 3 sauces that taste best all combined. It included a scallion ginger, soy and chili sauce. A side broth was included for all of the chicken plates. They offer catering as well as side options like corn, eggs or cucumbers. There's outdoor seating and plenty of parking spots. The portion size and price was very fair. The food was prepared quickly and the worker was friendly and funny. The bad: The broth portion was very small and lacked flavor. They don't have indoor seating. The interesting: The Viet coffee definitely looked and tasted different than the average Viet coffee but wasn't bad. It was a deeper color and had less condensed milk than average. I've had this place bookmarked for awhile but I'm going to be honest, I was skeptical. It's boiled chicken over rice with unappetizing looking skin. Every time I'd have my heart set on trying it I changed my mind. I'd roll my eyes at reviews going on and on about rice and chicken. Finally I decided to discover it for myself. Don't judge a boiled chicken by its looks. Prepare to roll your eyes as I join the bandwagon of how great this place is. You enter and there's a couple of ipad looking registers to place your order. The owner is the friendliest guy ever and could tell by my body language I was a first timer so he was showing me what the size differences were between regular and large. Regular looks small in photos but there's two layers of chicken. It seemed like half a chicken's worth of meat to me. Large isn't much more money so next time I think I'll do that and save half the chicken for another meal. There's no seating inside, outdoor only, so I took mine to go. I ordered a regular size Hainan chicken rice for me and a Chinese chicken salad for wife. While waiting I asked the owner if they were out of the spicy cucumbers because I didn't see it on the menu. He said they had them and when he saw my dismay he gave me an order of them free of charge. I offered to pay but he insisted. Pretty awesome customer service right there when this was no fault of his own that I didn't order them. The biggest complaint I have is when I got home the bone broth lid wasn't sealed and half the broth leaked in my takeout bag drenching all the containers and my wife's wontons. It was a mess. Luckily there was enough broth to taste it and was reminded of my grandma's chicken soup as I sipped it. Very rich tasting and comforting. I open my chicken and again see the skin that looks like my legs after getting out of cold water. I ignore it and mix the soy sauce, chili sauce, and ginger as the owner suggested. I pick up a piece of chicken, dip it in the sauce, put it in my mouth, and instantly my pupils probably dilated. These three simple sauces combined into a magic elixir that transformed the juicy simple chicken into a tasty delight. Even though I assumed the skin would be all rubbery and nasty it was also melt in your mouth tender from the cooking process and tasted really good. Came with lots of chicken. Be warned, a few pieces (I assume the wing) had bone which I didn't expect so be careful. The rice was infused with garlic and the bone broth for a really rich tasty flavor. There was also some sliced cucumber and a green condiment that tasted good. Not sure what it was. The spicy cucumbers were great. They had a lingering burn that was too spicy for my wife but I loved them and it was a great side dish. Big portion too so enough to share. My wife's Chinese chicken salad came with chicken, lettuce, pasta, almonds, scallions, wontons, and sesame dressing. Unfortunately her wontons were turned to mush due to the spilled broth but she really enjoyed her salad and it was the perfect portion. She said she'd get it again. Nothing like childhood comfort food. The garlic rice was tasty and fluffy, the chicken tender and perfect with the ginger sauce. It's very clean and their offering service is through a kiosk. Cost is definitely not that bad. It's approx $15 for regular bowl and $18 for the large. I expected something unique, different and flavorful. I got what looked like boiled, very plain chicken. There were three sauces and sure they were good and all, but it was Chinese chili sauce (sambal), soy sauce and something else that was okay. I guess the idea is that you just take this plain chicken and dip it in the sauces and eat the garlic rice with it. No depth in the flavor since the chicken did not seemed to be cooked with any flavors so it was just the sauces that make this dish? You also get some broth or something with it that was again just kinda bland and had nothing in it. Garlic Noodles -- We order this at many restaurants and found the noodles a bit overcooked and the sauce kinda pasty. It was okay but again, just had to cock my head a touch on what other reviews are saying here. There is no indoor seating so you share the tables with Jamba Juice / Pretzel shop combo in front of the restaurant. Shame since they were dirty and since in the shade, a bit cold. You order on computers inside so the only interaction you get is when the food is dropped on the tables outside. Guy seemed like he was bored and just saying the same thing for the 100th time. We ordered to go-- not sure if the amount of food is the same if you eat in person, but we found that they gave A LOT of rice, and a pretty small amount of chicken. The rice and chicken are both good; it was the distribution that was disappointing. They also didn't package our soup very well, so quite a bit spilled out. They should use a piece of cardboard when packaging so that the soup can stay upright during transport. Taste is good...but not sure if we would return though. read more

It's more like four stars but giving it five stars just because I've been so frustrated with not having any good Hainan chicken in this area. Most places have sweet soy sauce, but the one here was just salty without any sweetness. The ginger sauce was too oily and lacked potency. When all three sauces were combined, it tasted pretty good. The fried chicken had good flavor on the batter. It came with two different sauces - orange chili sauce and some type of sweet & spicy sauce. The rice here was excellent. It tasted extra fatty/buttery, more so than at other Hainan chicken places. Just glad there's a good Hainan chicken place near me with decent price. Will definitely be here quite often. Tried Maxwell during their soft opening and due to a few hiccups, we had to wait for our food longer than anticipated. The owner was upfront and courteous. He tried to set the expectations and tried to be as positive as possible. We had 2 regular Hainan chicken and bowls and a side of spicy cucumbers. The chicken was moist as it was poached and the spicy cucumbers were just ok. Not spicy at all. The sauces on the side was decent nothing to rave about. Instead of broth (as it was not avail today) was replaced by cream corn. The corn was hearty and delish. Oh I almost forgot, he gave us a free fried drumstick and it was really good. Perfectly battered and fried. Overall, was not impress with the Hainan (might be addition of the Maggi sauce- not a fan for some), but the rest is pretty darn good. There was also an accompaniment of thinly sliced and pickled cucumbers with its own green garlicky sauce. Also a side of soup to pour over the rice if you want or sip on its own. I was quite hungry and finished off my entire dish! My daughter and I shared a chicken salad as well, but I did ask for the pasta to be separate , it had a lot of very tender chicken strips and crisp romaine plus chopped almonds and a sprinkling of crispy wonton strips, I used the whole ounce of lemony sweet dressing. Small shop that just opened so there were some things on the menu like the Vietnamese coffee that weren't available yet. The owner came out to give us some small bottles of water which was nice. The skin was crispy and I'm drooling just thinking about it. The hainan chicken was good, but not as good as the hainan chicken places in the SGV area because it was a little drier. If you like white meat, you'll probably like it. If I was really craving hainan chicken though, this place will do cause it's close by. Was not a fan of their style of sauce since each are not totally enjoyable on their own. The soy sauce just tasted like soy sauce compared to the sweet soy from others. The ginger scallion oil did not taste seasoned. The chili sauce tasted the most similar to what I've had before. Mixing all the sauces together, I still was unimpressed. It lacked the harmonious balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. It was mainly savory notes that I tasted. The chicken itself was also lacking. There was no dark meat only option unless you wanted to pay extra. The white meat was teetering on too dry. I was surprised when the dark meat had some bone. It usually comes boneless. The rice was seasoned but the garlic flavor was very overpowering and tasted like I was eating garlic rice. Not opposed to it since I love garlic, but the other aromatics were definitely missing. The fried chicken was the best part. The chicken skin/batter was thin, light and crispy while the chicken was juicy. The sauce it came with was zingy and had a slight chili flavor. Came for hainan chicken rice but enjoyed the fried chicken more. It wasn't worth the 20-30 minute drive, so I won't be back. read more

Really excellent addition to the area. I got a large Hainan chicken plate. Aka chicken and rice. In Thai we call it "cow mun Gai" which means the same thing, But Maxwell's has done it with a really nice presentation. The rice is marinated with the chicken broth I would assume and instead of a single garlic soy dip it's a triple dip system. Sean the owner came out and told me I should dip the chicken in each of the pods and he was right. One special thing I like is that instead of a clear broth of chicken soup it's actually a bone broth which if you know anything about health a bone broth is much better for you with much better nutritional value. One of my son's and my favorite go to dining spots since discovering it a short time ago. Brian was the perfect front man to introduce me to these delectable Singaporean dishes! I started with a Large Hainan Chicken Rice with house made sauces: Ginger Scallion, Soy Sauce & Sambal. The perfectly Poached chicken, flavorful seasoned rice, and the house made sauces, paired with the bone broth and pickled vegetables were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The house made sauces had an earthy , salty and spicy flavor to them. On another visit we tried the Char Siu (BBQ Pork), a Cantonese style BBQ Pork in a honey hoisin glaze that was cooked and flavored to perfection. Their Hainan Chicken Rice comes with poached chicken (with skin), the classic three sauces (chili sauce, ginger sauce, and soy sauce), pickled cucumbers, and a cup of broth. So homey with familiar flavors. Will note that the portion size is on the smaller side. It's doesn't provide the most value if that's what you're looking for, but it was the perfect amount for me!
