It has become one of our family restaurant.s. Cozy seating arrangements. Always felt pampered when enjoying the small plates of side dishes. The tofu soup allows for vegetarian options which is a plus. The only thing lacking is a snowy or rainy day.

Dined here last night after going to the movies. Ordered the soup dumpling with mild spice. While waiting for the soup to come out, I was given salad and side dishes. After finally getting my soup, a rush of people started to come so it was hard to get any of the servers attention for a refill on side dishes. As a result, I ended up walking to the front counter and asking instead. The soup was great but definitely could hire an additional server or two!

Amazing soondubu We got a combo dumpling tofu soup with galbi and oyster tofu soup The size of the tofu soup were huge Broth flavorful - plenty of dumplings and oysters The banchan were delicious and the servers came by often to refill them. Banchan included grilled fish and a packet of dried seaweed Galbi was marinaded well - not too sweet and very delicious Lots of parking Takes cc and opens early at 1030am!

TL;DR: Fast service, hot food, perfectly seasoned unlimited banchan, and homey food that gets you coming back - unlimited banchan: everything was tasty except for the seafood pancake which was cold. Be forewarned they may charge you for extra banchan at their discretion. - galbi beef: perfectly seasoned and juicy - complimentary fish: perfectly moist and salted! - tomato tofu stew: this is their newer broths and it tasted like they added tomato and cornstarch to thicken the sauce. Definitely an interesting taste that grew on me. My partner was not a fan tho.

In the OC area and craving late-night comfort food? Chodang Tofu House is open until 2am! They offer a wide variety of comfort dishes, including tofu soup, cold noodles, bibimbap, grilled fish, bulgogi, galbi, and more. I love their banchan, especially the seaweed and squid Looking for something shareable? The hot pot bulgogi is a must -- huge portion and tons of meat! IG: socalhkfoodies

Opens at 10:30 am and closes at 2 am. Never had issues with parking. This establishment is across the street from brewesters icecream. Dol sot bimbap is my go to dish. Fresh and good selection of banchan. I like that they will give you more banchan without making you feel like you're a damn big. Oyster sundubu is tasty you can get it spicy or mild. Will keep coming back.

Visited Cho Dang after going to BCD Tofu House with friends, and one of them told us that since we liked BCD, we would love Cho Dang, and they were absolutely right. Service was great, everyone working was very sweet. All of the banchan was so flavorful and delicious. The soft tofu stews were amazing, and the galbi was very juicy and tender, not chewy at all. The spicy pork was super tasty, it had great flavor without being overly spicy. The bibimbap had very fresh ingredients and was so satisfying. Everything was delicious, and we'll definitely be returning. Super excited to try the seafood pancake next. :)

Came here for a quick dinner and the army stew was comforting! I ordered seaweed in the side to eat it with some rice like a masubi. I recommend that little hack. The soup did get salty toward the bottom is my only complaint. The stew was large enough for two people to share, so we just ate that. Service was good.

Cho Dang is truly an institution. I've been coming here for about 22 years, and that kind of longevity speaks for itself. Over all these years, the food has remained incredibly consistent, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. They've done a great job evolving without losing what makes the place special. The furniture has been updated, and they've added new items to the menu, but the core experience is still the same dependable, satisfying Korean comfort food. I almost always order their tofu soup and barbecue combos--they're classics for a reason. Most recently, I tried the tomato version of the tofu soup, and it was absolutely delicious, with a rich, comforting flavor that felt both familiar and new.

What I Ordered: Ham, Sausage, and Cheese Tofu Soup ($16.99) Soft Tofu + Galbi Combo ($32.99) Hot Stone Bibimbap - Bulgogi ($22.99) Food: ChoDang tofu was a soondubu/tofu soup spot restaurant that I hadn't visited in literally 10 years, so I was excited to see what they were like now. I was so happy to find that there flavors hasn't changed after all those years! Obviously when people think about tofu soup, we all think of BCD first. However, I love this spot even more than BCD because I am able to taste that they don't use as much MSG as BCD so the flavors of each of the ingredients are much more distinctive. My favorite was the Ham, Sausage, and Cheese Tofu soup, which has a unique flavor different from the other tofu soups. The cheese and ham/sausage in the tofu soup allows for more of a flavorful taste compared to other tofu soups that are more clean and smooth. Obviously, everyone has different tastebuds so people will prefer different things, but I personally loved it. What really surprised me was the hot stone bibimbap with bulgogi. They put in a ton of vegetables and bulgogi to make sure that each bite is full of flavor. You're also able to put in as much red pepper paste, or gochujang, onto the bibimbap. With all of these ingredients combined, you end up with a spicy, savory, and healthy meal that is perfect for any occasion. The Hot Stone pot really does make a difference with the bottom portion of the rice continually cooking on high temperatures to create a crispy finish. The galbi, or beef ribs, were well cooked using high quality meats that provided a soft and tender side dish. It is delicious eating as is, but it is also great to eat with a bowl of rice. Each piece were nicely marinated and full of flavor, which I personally loved eating with the bibimbap. It would have been nice if the portions were a bit bigger, but it came as a combo with a kimchi tofu soup, so the meal itself was definitely filling. Service: All of the staff members were nice and friendly, they all spoke both English and Korean. Ambiance: Indoor seating only with plenty of seats. I appreciated the inside decorations with traditional Korean paintings and window/wall decorations. It felt a lot like the restaurants in Korea. The parking space is shared with a neighboring restaurant, which is a bit small. However, there is another much bigger parking lot literally right next to them that you can use, which provides ample parking space.

They were open until 2 a.m. on a Saturday night. Normally I go to BCD Tofu in Cerritos, but I decided to give ChoDang a try. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with what I ordered. I might try a different entrée in the future, but with BCD as a reliable alternative, I'm not sure it's worth it. Pros: 1. Side dishes were solid--similar in number and taste to BCD, but I thought ChoDang's ingredient quality was a notch higher. For example, the grilled yellow croaker (조기구이) was larger and less dry than what I usually get at BCD. I normally skip the fish, but I tried it here for comparison and noticed the difference. 2. Other sides seemed less salty, which makes me think ChoDang uses less MSG than BCD. (BCD says they don't use MSG, but how accurate that is, I'm not sure.) 3. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Cons: I ordered the beef soon tofu, and the broth--and especially the beef--just didn't taste right. They gave a lot more beef than BCD, but the texture and smell suggested poorly thawed frozen beef or lower-quality meat. It really threw the dish off, and I only ate about a third of it. Overall: I'd say give ChoDang a try if you're curious or want to compare their other entrées. For me, though, I'll probably stick with BCD. I'd love to hear what other Yelpers think of their different dishes--one reviewer said they liked the galbi here, but I have a hard time believing it's better than BCD's in Cerritos. (For reference, BCD in Garden Grove or NYC isn't nearly as good as the Cerritos location either.)

I've been coming here for the past 7 years since my last review. I think it's time I updated my review. Food has been consistently solid. The price is still reasonable, and the taste is still great. Their Galbi and spicy pork are tender and juicy. The beef bimbimbap is well proportioned. I love the fact the banchan still comes with a fish. When I'm craving some good comfort Korean comfort food, I come here. Service hasn't changed much since my first review which may be due to understaff.

    Bulgogi Combo
    Christy C.

Ordered Bulgogi Combo via UberEats and even though it was quite far (16 miles), it only took 45 minutes. I thought it would be cold by the time I got it but the soup was still sizzling hot and the bulgogi was still warm! Menu has a good variety of bibimbap, tofu soups, and BBQ dishes/combos. Pricing was reasonable and most items were $20-$30+. The Bulgogi Combo ($31.99 on UberEats & $26.99 lunch special & $29.99 dinner price) came with 4 banchans - bean sprouts, pickled cucumbers, kimchi, and bean sprouts, as well as a fried yellow croaker. The banchans tasted very delicious and fresh. The croaker was a little too oily but it was nice and crispy! Also, it came with a box of bulgogi, bowl of rice, and choice of tofu soup. Banchans were 8/10 The bulgogi was decent. It had a lot of onions underneath to make it appear like there was a lot of meat inside the box. The meat was a little bland and would have been better if it was more marinated. I enjoyed how it was quite tender and not too fatty. This was 7/10 The beef tofu soup was ok. Loved that there were so many options to choose from - beef short rib, beef, kimchi, seafood, etc. It was also nice that there was an option for spiciness level. I got the mild and it wasn't too spicy! The tofu was so soft that it just melted in my mouth. There was lots of beef inside! I would have enjoyed it more if the soup wasn't so salty and oily. I was very thirsty afterwards and it's probably because they used a lot of MSG. This was 6/10 Probably won't return or recommend

    No.

Can the tofu soup be made vegetarian?

I believe they have a variation where you can choose to put no meat in it. Even if it's not officially on the menu, I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to ask them not to put any meat in the soup. I would call to make sure though!

From the friendly service that made us feel like home, to the delicious food, everything hit the spot. We ordered the cold noodle, seafood pancake, bibambap, and short rib combo. All the dishes were so good! And all the banchan that came with it was the cherry on top. The only negative was the table was kind of small for all the dishes...though that could have been user error with us ordering way too much. Portions were surprisingly big, especially the seafood pancake. The whole time, our littlest one was making a mess and the ladies that worked there did not seem perturbed at all, and kept commenting about how cute he was and interacting with him. This type of service and response made us feel more at ease and able to "enjoy" our meal, and that makes a world of difference. I would recommend! Note the parking lot is a little small.

My mom also tried this place and recommended it, so I felt confident this would be a spot I would be coming often. We ordered the naengmyeon combo with spicy marinated pork and a side of soybean paste stew. The lady was nice when she seated us, but seemed a little bothered when we only ordered the above items, because she coldly asked "if that was all" and we said yes. She walked away then yells back asking if we wanted rice because rice wasn't included, and we said no. Despite the rough start with the vibe of the lady who took our order I was still hopeful the food itself would make up for it. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. I've never had naengmyeon that had so much chili flakes, and as someone who doesn't mind them, it was weird. The soybean paste soup was bland. And the side dishes were just okay. After the meal, I got really thirsty and my face was puffy so they are using msg. If it was a good meal, I wouldn't have minded the msg, but for food that was mediocre at best was not worth it. Although I won't be back, I did see people ordering for take out nonstop, so there must be some other dish that is giving them customers.

Although they provided a decent amount of banchan, the proteins in their soups were pretty scarce, not worthing the $19 price tags. Their Hae Jang Guk was the only soup with the bone filled up the bowl. However, because there's no space in the small bowl, even a little nudge made its soup spilled all over my sister's body. The waitress just then gave her a bib but the damage had already been done. The Bulgogi and Katsu took the longest to come out but they were the highlights of our meal. Service: We were the only table at the time and our waitress only gave us 2 menus for a table of 6 so we had to go grab our own from other tables. She's not the friendliest and kept tossing things on our table. She also tried taking away a dipping sauce jar after I had already requested to keep it. Our water was never refilled and napkins were very skimmed out. Though she did check up on our tables, her attitude was what made us refrain from asking for help.
