We stop by Chodong Tofu because we like the tofu soup here. The place was quite busy, as we stopped by during dinner rush so there was a bit of a wait. My husband always gets the spicy intestines tofu while I typically get the spicy seafood tofu, we usually get medium spicy level. The soups are always flavorful and has enough of a spicy kick for me. We got the meals as a combo, with the spicy pork bulgogi and spicy beef bulgogi added on. Both of the meats were on the sweeter side, but still delicious.

Solid food and good service. I tried a variety of dishes with my family. Our usuals are seafood pancake, galbi, japchae, bibimbap and pork katsu/cutlet. Everything tasted good and came quickly. My favorite was the bulgogi japchae noodles. My least favorite was the bibimbap, which is usually my go-to order at most Korean restaurants. I've had better and wouldn't get the one here. All the other items we ordered were tasty though.

It has become one of our family restaurant.s. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy seating arrangements.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Always felt pampered when enjoying the small plates of side dishes. The tofu soup allows for vegetarian options which is a plus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only thing lacking is a snowy or rainy day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Consistently good food and good service. I've been going here for years and can say that the food is consistently good and so is the service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Expect it to be cold in there no matter the day or season - gotta keep you cool when you're eating hot soup![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tables can feel a bit close to each other depending on where you sit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]And it does get busy during the usual nights & weekends so expect that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, delicious food with a home cooked feel and good service. I'd say my only gripe is that parking can get busy, but there's plenty of parking throughout the plaza.

Service was good. Side dishes were good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They played Kpop when I was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was my first time there and I ordered perilla seed tofu stew because I looooooove perilla seeds! I was so excited to try and it tasted good other than the fact that it was super salty. I would have asked to have it remade but it was my lunch time at work so I still wanted to be able to eat something or else I'd run out of time. On the bright side, they added a lot of perilla seeds to my liking.

Amazing soondubu We got a combo dumpling tofu soup with galbi and oyster tofu soup The size of the tofu soup were huge Broth flavorful - plenty of dumplings and oysters The banchan were delicious and the servers came by often to refill them. Banchan included grilled fish and a packet of dried seaweed Galbi was marinaded well - not too sweet and very delicious Lots of parking Takes cc and opens early at 1030am!

Dined here last night after going to the movies. Ordered the soup dumpling with mild spice. While waiting for the soup to come out, I was given salad and side dishes. After finally getting my soup, a rush of people started to come so it was hard to get any of the servers attention for a refill on side dishes. As a result, I ended up walking to the front counter and asking instead. The soup was great but definitely could hire an additional server or two!

TL;DR: Fast service, hot food, perfectly seasoned unlimited banchan, and homey food that gets you coming back - unlimited banchan: everything was tasty except for the seafood pancake which was cold. Be forewarned they may charge you for extra banchan at their discretion. - galbi beef: perfectly seasoned and juicy - complimentary fish: perfectly moist and salted! - tomato tofu stew: this is their newer broths and it tasted like they added tomato and cornstarch to thicken the sauce. Definitely an interesting taste that grew on me. My partner was not a fan tho.

In the OC area and craving late-night comfort food? Chodang Tofu House is open until 2am! They offer a wide variety of comfort dishes, including tofu soup, cold noodles, bibimbap, grilled fish, bulgogi, galbi, and more. I love their banchan, especially the seaweed and squid Looking for something shareable? The hot pot bulgogi is a must -- huge portion and tons of meat! IG: socalhkfoodies

Opens at 10:30 am and closes at 2 am. Never had issues with parking. This establishment is across the street from brewesters icecream. Dol sot bimbap is my go to dish. Fresh and good selection of banchan. I like that they will give you more banchan without making you feel like you're a damn big. Oyster sundubu is tasty you can get it spicy or mild. Will keep coming back.

Visited Cho Dang after going to BCD Tofu House with friends, and one of them told us that since we liked BCD, we would love Cho Dang, and they were absolutely right. Service was great, everyone working was very sweet. All of the banchan was so flavorful and delicious. The soft tofu stews were amazing, and the galbi was very juicy and tender, not chewy at all. The spicy pork was super tasty, it had great flavor without being overly spicy. The bibimbap had very fresh ingredients and was so satisfying. Everything was delicious, and we'll definitely be returning. Super excited to try the seafood pancake next. :)

Cho Dang is truly an institution. I've been coming here for about 22 years, and that kind of longevity speaks for itself. Over all these years, the food has remained incredibly consistent, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. They've done a great job evolving without losing what makes the place special. The furniture has been updated, and they've added new items to the menu, but the core experience is still the same dependable, satisfying Korean comfort food. I almost always order their tofu soup and barbecue combos--they're classics for a reason. Most recently, I tried the tomato version of the tofu soup, and it was absolutely delicious, with a rich, comforting flavor that felt both familiar and new.

What I Ordered: Ham, Sausage, and Cheese Tofu Soup ($16.99) Soft Tofu + Galbi Combo ($32.99) Hot Stone Bibimbap - Bulgogi ($22.99) Food: ChoDang tofu was a soondubu/tofu soup spot restaurant that I hadn't visited in literally 10 years, so I was excited to see what they were like now. I was so happy to find that there flavors hasn't changed after all those years! Obviously when people think about tofu soup, we all think of BCD first. However, I love this spot even more than BCD because I am able to taste that they don't use as much MSG as BCD so the flavors of each of the ingredients are much more distinctive. My favorite was the Ham, Sausage, and Cheese Tofu soup, which has a unique flavor different from the other tofu soups. The cheese and ham/sausage in the tofu soup allows for more of a flavorful taste compared to other tofu soups that are more clean and smooth. Obviously, everyone has different tastebuds so people will prefer different things, but I personally loved it. What really surprised me was the hot stone bibimbap with bulgogi. They put in a ton of vegetables and bulgogi to make sure that each bite is full of flavor. You're also able to put in as much red pepper paste, or gochujang, onto the bibimbap. With all of these ingredients combined, you end up with a spicy, savory, and healthy meal that is perfect for any occasion. The Hot Stone pot really does make a difference with the bottom portion of the rice continually cooking on high temperatures to create a crispy finish. The galbi, or beef ribs, were well cooked using high quality meats that provided a soft and tender side dish. It is delicious eating as is, but it is also great to eat with a bowl of rice. Each piece were nicely marinated and full of flavor, which I personally loved eating with the bibimbap. It would have been nice if the portions were a bit bigger, but it came as a combo with a kimchi tofu soup, so the meal itself was definitely filling. Service: All of the staff members were nice and friendly, they all spoke both English and Korean. Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Indoor seating only with plenty of seats. I appreciated the inside decorations with traditional Korean paintings and window/wall decorations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It felt a lot like the restaurants in Korea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking space is shared with a neighboring restaurant, which is a bit small. However, there is another much bigger parking lot literally right next to them that you can use, which provides ample parking space.

Are they refraining from serving the raw egg due to egg price crisis?

Is the ice cream machine still there?

    No.

Can the tofu soup be made vegetarian?

I believe they have a variation where you can choose to put no meat in it. Even if it's not officially on the menu, I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to ask them not to put any meat in the soup. I would call to make sure though!

    Do they have bibimbap?

    Yes they do

I've always liked this spot as a late-night eatery, and the food itself is still good, the broth is flavorful, and the noodles and other dishes have generally been enjoyable. That's why I was especially disappointed by how our most recent visit was handled. We arrived around midnight and put our name on the waitlist. There were a few parties ahead of us, and around 12:30 AM, the host came out and explained that at that point, seating was no longer guaranteed, despite the restaurant being scheduled to close at 1:30 AM. We decided to continue waiting and were eventually seated around 1:00 AM. We ordered immediately, and our food came out shortly afterward around 1:15 AM. At exactly 1:30 AM, while we were still finishing our meal, our server came over and said that they were closing and asked if we wanted boxes for the remaining food. Technically, it was phrased as a reminder and an offer to provide boxes for our food, but the implication was very clear: we needed to leave. That was what made the situation particularly uncomfortable. We completely understood that the restaurant was closing and had no intention of staying past closing to socialize or linger. We were literally still eating the food we had just ordered around 1:15 AM. We had only been seated for about 30 minutes, ordered immediately, and were already nearly finished when the server approached us. We had also already paid our bill. The timing just left an awkward feeling. If the restaurant closes at 1:30 AM and customers who are seated close to closing are expected to be completely finished and out by that time, I think that should be communicated before seating them. It would have allowed us to decide whether waiting until 1:00 AM was worthwhile. I also understand that employees need to finish their shifts and close the restaurant on time, and I respect that. My issue is more with the overall communication and the way the situation was handled. Being seated at 1:00 AM, ordering immediately, receiving our food around 1:15 AM, and then essentially being told at 1:30 AM that it was time to leave made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. This isn't a review based on the food, the food is still good. It's about the overall experience and customer service during this particular visit. Unfortunately, what should have been a nice late night meal ended with an awkward feeling that stayed with us after we left. Because of this experience, I can no longer give this location the five stars I previously gave it. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback, because I do think the situation could have been handled much more smoothly and with clearer communication upfront.
