Ok so I was so excited to go here. There is something really comforting about a tamale done right!…read moreThe glowing reviews and pictures seemed promising. The restaurant itself has a lot of character, it full of textures and colors, had a cute little fountain outside. It just feels homey and welcoming. The menu...is hella pricey for a tamale. I mean even with inflation these days I could get a tamale at most spots where I live for like half the price. I just told myself it's Sedona just except it lol so I went wild and got their extra special tamale with lots of topping to make it a more complete meal. I chose the chicken mole for my filling. I also got their dairy free horchata. First thing the horchata was delicious! Creamy, great texture, not to sweet, seasoned just right. Extra points for being dairy free as milk is not my bodies friend. The tamale however was a major let down. I was so close to just sending it back, but was on a time crunch and starving. The masa was so salty. The mole sauce was barely existent and had no complexity or flavor really. I didn't taste the chocolate or the Chile . Just blah. The toppings and horchata helped make it possible to consume despite the saltiness. So overpriced salty tamale gets 2 stars, ambiance 5, and horchata 5, which is why this place gets a three stars overall. I wanted to love this spot so bad, and maybe it was a bad day, or the wrong thing to get...but their name is literally tamaliza. Their tamale should have rocked my world.

I had ham and eggs with a piece of toast and you have a choice of large or small ham. I don't have a big appetite so I ordered the small ham and I'm glad I did because it was huge best breakfast I've ever had. My girlfriend had eggs Benedict and it was also excellent, I also had melons in for once they were ripe. Josh was a waiter and he was excellent ambience was great. Perused the vast menu and decided on the Hermosa Chicken sandwich which was a nice sized chicken breast with sprouts, avo and bacon. Not a tomato lover, so I opt out. Nice size sandwich on whole wheat grilled bread. Honestly, it could have used a nice garlic, or basil/dill aeoli or something, but overall a good choice. The decor is Southern California based with surfboards, beach photos and pictures I recognized as Huntington Beach (I'm a native Californian, now AWOL). I loved the SDSU pennant on the wall - my college Alma mater in Arizona! Atmosphere is light and friendly, service attentive and food ample and satisfying. Very unassuming on a Frontage Road off 69...but you'll love the atmosphere.

Chicken Piccata was tough and definitely not made in house. This place is a huge pass. I'm pretty sure there are some great restaurants in Sedona, so I would pass this one up.

Parking was easy, and we were greeted and welcomed as soon as we walked in the door, then ushered to our seats right away. Our server, Harmony, was speedy, attentive, and super knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere was relaxed and warm, with a great window view of the surrounding Sedona beauty! It made all of us feel at ease and ready to dig into some grub! I'm the only GF-er in my family, but none of them ever mind going here. We've been to Picazzo's lots of times down the hill, and I was hoping they'd be just as consistent up the hill too--hopes granted! I enjoyed the Limoncello Margarita--very tart and tequila-forward. I substituted a salt rim for their usual sugar rim...rookie mistake. They know their stuff--the sugar rim would definitely have made it that much better! For appetizers, we ordered the Baked Brie with GF focaccia bread (the fig spread was delish, and the Brie was ooey-gooey, salty perfection), and the spinach artichoke dip with the GF flatbread (so delightfully creamy). Delicious on all fronts-- even better together on the focaccia! For our meal, my husband and I shared two plates: Spicy Baked Rigatoni and the Spicy Chipotle Chicken. Both had savory, cream-based sauces with rigatoni that did not taste GF (kudos!) and were mouthwateringly good! We didn't have enough room for dessert, but we definitely left content. Safe to say that Picazzo's is a consistently delicious and welcoming place to share a meal...in the Valley or up the hill!

Here at COLT Grill I had The Filly, a salad the menu described as "romaine, walnuts, pears, cranberries, bleu cheese crumbles, cranberry vinaigrette". I opted for the "small" ($8.50) over the" large" ($13) and it was a beautiful salad both in presentation and taste. But the salad portion of the menu also said one could "add chicken or smoked turkey" ($4) or "add beef brisket" ($5) and I did. Did you just tell me I could get a perfect, tasty, ample salad with a separate, robust and delicious side of BBQ beef brisket for $13.50? I wasn't just ready to fly to Arizona; I was ready to move to Cottonwood. This meal was delicious. A "small platter of smoked brisket" ($14.50) was enjoyed equally by another at my table but, with my bowlful of brisket, I paid little attention to that other meal. My attention instead was aimed at a nearby table's indulgence in the smoked Mac-n-cheese ($4.75) and Cheesy Jalapeño Corn Bread ($4). Jealous I was, for I had no room for anything more. What a winner. COLT Grill might be half the reason I return to this area in the future.
